0:00:02 > 0:00:04- Paradise! - Absolutely.

0:00:04 > 0:00:08What if you could live abroad in winter for the same cost

0:00:08 > 0:00:11as living in the UK...

0:00:11 > 0:00:14This is priced at 595 per month.

0:00:14 > 0:00:15Is that all?

0:00:15 > 0:00:18..by renting a piece of paradise?

0:00:18 > 0:00:20Unbelievable. Wow, this is amazing.

0:00:20 > 0:00:22You could swap sleet and snow...

0:00:23 > 0:00:25..for sun and sand.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28- Right, let's go and have a look at some properties.- Absolutely.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33Get Away For Winter teams up sun-seekers

0:00:33 > 0:00:35with a local property expert...

0:00:35 > 0:00:37- Can you see yourself in there? - I can, yes.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40..to find their perfect rental retreat.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42It's like you're on holiday all the time.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46Together, they will leave no stone unturned...

0:00:46 > 0:00:48This is unbelievable, isn't it?

0:00:48 > 0:00:53..in order to find and fund their dream winter getaway.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56This is what I was dreaming of, and didn't even think existed.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09Sandhurst in the south-east of England.

0:01:12 > 0:01:17This sleepy Kent town is prepping for the cold winter months,

0:01:17 > 0:01:20and two residents looking to sidestep those chilly days

0:01:20 > 0:01:22are husband and wife, Norman and Sally.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27- Have you made the stock, love? - I've got the stock over there.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29Going in in a couple of seconds' time.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31We've been together, let me see...

0:01:32 > 0:01:34- 51. - ..51 years.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38And we have been married 47 years, is it?

0:01:38 > 0:01:4047, yes.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42Not a lifetime, quite.

0:01:42 > 0:01:45I won't crack the old jokes about life sentences.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47- No. - Never a wrong word.

0:01:47 > 0:01:51Indeed. And don't we both look happy?

0:01:53 > 0:01:56Their children have long since flown the nest,

0:01:56 > 0:01:59and Norman and Sally want to enjoy their life in retirement,

0:01:59 > 0:02:01but with a love of the outdoors,

0:02:01 > 0:02:04they find the cold, cold winter months tough going.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07- You're not at your best in winter, are you?- I'm not at my best, no.

0:02:07 > 0:02:11I don't like getting up in dark mornings and having

0:02:11 > 0:02:13a miserable day ahead.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17The winter months, I can't get out on my bike,

0:02:17 > 0:02:20Sally can't get out in the garden, we can't go for walks.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22We like to go down to the coastal areas.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25Norman's passion for being on his bike

0:02:25 > 0:02:27is matched by the couple's love of travelling, and now

0:02:27 > 0:02:31they're determined to get away for two months over winter.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33It's something they've been thinking about for a long time.

0:02:33 > 0:02:38For years, we did toy with the idea of buying a property abroad.

0:02:38 > 0:02:39But then, you know...

0:02:39 > 0:02:40It restricts you,

0:02:40 > 0:02:44because you're only going to that one place every year,

0:02:44 > 0:02:48whereas to actually rent, you can do a month,

0:02:48 > 0:02:53six months, in one part of Spain, and next year you might think,

0:02:53 > 0:02:57"I want to go to Miami, or, "I want to go to Italy," or wherever,

0:02:57 > 0:03:02so you can rent and you get the whole benefit of living there.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07Norman and Sally will primarily be using money from their pensions

0:03:07 > 0:03:12to fund their trip. However, to make their time abroad more cost neutral,

0:03:12 > 0:03:15they could think about renting their own house while they're away.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20Their three-bedroomed detached house is in the highly desirable area

0:03:20 > 0:03:23of Kent, because it's commutable to London,

0:03:23 > 0:03:29and local estate agents estimate they could make £1,700 per month

0:03:29 > 0:03:33in rental income. For now, this is not an avenue that Norman and Sally

0:03:33 > 0:03:37want to go down, but they do estimate they will save £80 a month

0:03:37 > 0:03:40on utilities and petrol while they are gone,

0:03:40 > 0:03:42which, together with money from their pensions,

0:03:42 > 0:03:48means they have set their winter sunshine budget at £1,800 a month.

0:03:50 > 0:03:54£1,000 a month of this will be allocated to renting a perfect

0:03:54 > 0:04:00property in the sun, and they know exactly where they want to go.

0:04:00 > 0:04:04Ideally, we'd like to go to Cadiz, to the Old Town,

0:04:04 > 0:04:09which is an absolutely beautiful city, and it's very old.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12There's the cathedral and everything else there,

0:04:12 > 0:04:14but there's also the port,

0:04:14 > 0:04:16there's the beaches,

0:04:16 > 0:04:18there's just everything in the town itself,

0:04:18 > 0:04:22- and it's a beautiful part of the world.- It is.

0:04:22 > 0:04:26And not a bad place to try and spend the whole of January and February.

0:04:31 > 0:04:34Located at the southernmost part of continental Europe,

0:04:34 > 0:04:39the very popular province of Cadiz is a jewel in the Spanish crown.

0:04:42 > 0:04:46The provincial capital is the historic city of Cadiz,

0:04:46 > 0:04:50and Greek legend proclaims it was founded by Hercules himself.

0:04:54 > 0:04:58It's viewed as the oldest inhabited city in Spain,

0:04:58 > 0:05:02and every February, hosts one of the biggest street parties in the world.

0:05:04 > 0:05:06It's known as the Cadiz Carnival.

0:05:09 > 0:05:13The city is surrounded by Andalusian countryside, and

0:05:13 > 0:05:17boasts world-class beaches, as well as whitewashed hilltop towns

0:05:17 > 0:05:20and villages dotted along its coastline.

0:05:22 > 0:05:24It's a place that has drawn people in,

0:05:24 > 0:05:27including property expert Ali Zartash Lloyd.

0:05:27 > 0:05:30Cadiz itself is an amazing place.

0:05:30 > 0:05:33It's a strip of land that juts out into the sea,

0:05:33 > 0:05:35literally a narrow strait,

0:05:35 > 0:05:38and that is why property in Cadiz is very difficult to find.

0:05:40 > 0:05:44Originally from Iran, Ali moved to Spain from Cambridge

0:05:44 > 0:05:48with his wife and business partner Caroline back in 2006,

0:05:48 > 0:05:51and after running a successful hotel for ten years,

0:05:51 > 0:05:54decided to start their own property rental company.

0:05:54 > 0:05:57- Cable TV.- Yes. - And internet.

0:05:57 > 0:05:59We love the Spanish way of life.

0:05:59 > 0:06:02There is a misunderstanding about Spanish life,

0:06:02 > 0:06:07which is that everyone thinks it's laid-back and nobody does much.

0:06:07 > 0:06:09The fact is we work differently.

0:06:09 > 0:06:13We work in two shifts, but we do the same hours everybody else does.

0:06:14 > 0:06:17With many years in the property game, Ali is looking forward

0:06:17 > 0:06:20to sharing his local knowledge with Norman and Sally.

0:06:22 > 0:06:26They are standing by to video call Ali, and as only one of them will be

0:06:26 > 0:06:29joining Ali on the search, they will be letting him know what

0:06:29 > 0:06:32they're both looking for in a rental property.

0:06:33 > 0:06:36Hi, Norman and Sally. Good to meet you at last in the flesh.

0:06:36 > 0:06:38Yeah, hi. Good to see you, Ali, yes.

0:06:38 > 0:06:42- Nice to meet you. - Jolly Ali gets straight to work.

0:06:42 > 0:06:44Let's start with places you like, in the cities,

0:06:44 > 0:06:48or villages, or the kind of thing that really interests you.

0:06:48 > 0:06:51- We prefer Cadiz province... - Mm-hm.

0:06:51 > 0:06:56..and ideally, we would prefer Cadiz Old Town, and if not,

0:06:56 > 0:07:00one of the other towns, but a reasonably sized town.

0:07:00 > 0:07:04And easy walking distance to amenities.

0:07:04 > 0:07:07- OK, so you don't want somewhere isolated?- No.

0:07:07 > 0:07:10And from the point of view of the property itself,

0:07:10 > 0:07:14what are you looking for? What are the things you are looking for?

0:07:14 > 0:07:17Two-bedroomed, a good kitchen - we both like cooking.

0:07:17 > 0:07:23- OK.- Some outside space, even if it's just a balcony or a small courtyard,

0:07:23 > 0:07:27- something like that. - OK. And do you mind apartments?

0:07:27 > 0:07:30As long as it's not too high up in the building,

0:07:30 > 0:07:35- unless there is a lift.- OK! - If there's a lift, that's fine.

0:07:35 > 0:07:39So a pretty clear wish list, and time to talk budget.

0:07:39 > 0:07:41What kind of budget do you have?

0:07:41 > 0:07:431,000 British pounds.

0:07:43 > 0:07:46OK, if you want to be in the old town, which is absolutely beautiful,

0:07:46 > 0:07:50it is difficult to get the kind of place you are looking for at

0:07:50 > 0:07:54around this price. Also, the other challenge you have got is, between

0:07:54 > 0:07:57the 8th and the 18th of February, we have the Cadiz Carnival.

0:07:57 > 0:08:01- Yeah. - Now, that is a beautiful event,

0:08:01 > 0:08:04but it does mean people have booked their places a year before,

0:08:04 > 0:08:07so it will be quite challenging to find you something in Cadiz.

0:08:07 > 0:08:11- We will try!- Right. - But just be aware of that,

0:08:11 > 0:08:13particularly the time you are coming for.

0:08:13 > 0:08:15Who is coming out for the search?

0:08:15 > 0:08:16That will be me, Ali, yes.

0:08:16 > 0:08:19You'll have the pleasure of my company, I'm afraid.

0:08:19 > 0:08:21I will be delighted to host you!

0:08:21 > 0:08:23Leaving the young ladies at home, you see.

0:08:23 > 0:08:25OK, I think we have got everything we need.

0:08:25 > 0:08:28Hopefully, we can find you the right places.

0:08:28 > 0:08:32Thank you very much for all your information, and I'm sure I'm now

0:08:32 > 0:08:35leaving Norman in good hands when he comes out to see you.

0:08:35 > 0:08:38So you'll have to look after him for me.

0:08:38 > 0:08:40We will look after him, don't worry.

0:08:40 > 0:08:42We will send him back home safe and sound.

0:08:42 > 0:08:43Thank you.

0:08:43 > 0:08:47A successful first chat, and a helpful uncovering of

0:08:47 > 0:08:49certain realities for Norman.

0:08:49 > 0:08:52I thought he was very interesting and very knowledgeable, and I think

0:08:52 > 0:08:55the points he came up with were very valid, to be honest with you.

0:08:55 > 0:08:59I think we had realised there was a fiesta on at that time of year,

0:08:59 > 0:09:03which we thought would be brilliantly interesting for us to go

0:09:03 > 0:09:05to, but we hadn't actually looked on the other side of the coin in terms

0:09:05 > 0:09:09of how busy it might be, or that it would attract that many visitors.

0:09:09 > 0:09:12So for Norman and Sally's £1,000 budget,

0:09:12 > 0:09:15they're looking for a two-bedroomed property,

0:09:15 > 0:09:17with good kitchen facilities and outside space.

0:09:19 > 0:09:23They'd like to be in Cadiz itself, or one of the surrounding towns,

0:09:23 > 0:09:26and they would prefer a lift if there were a few flights of stairs

0:09:26 > 0:09:28to climb up.

0:09:28 > 0:09:31Time to see if Ali can get them exactly what they want in Cadiz.

0:09:40 > 0:09:43Norman has made the almost 1,500-mile journey to Spain,

0:09:43 > 0:09:46and is preparing for the search ahead.

0:09:46 > 0:09:49I am excited, but at the same time, a little bit in trepidation

0:09:49 > 0:09:51as to how things will be.

0:09:51 > 0:09:53Ali is making his way to meet Norman

0:09:53 > 0:09:55to get their property search under way.

0:09:57 > 0:09:59The area that Norman and Sally have chosen is very interesting,

0:09:59 > 0:10:03because it's not well known as a tourist area outside of Spain.

0:10:03 > 0:10:05The Spanish come here a lot,

0:10:05 > 0:10:08so therefore you are always competing with the Spanish,

0:10:08 > 0:10:12but also you are competing with people who own properties here

0:10:12 > 0:10:15themselves, so they want to come here and spend wintertime.

0:10:15 > 0:10:20So that always challenges us when we are looking for properties

0:10:20 > 0:10:22in this time of the year.

0:10:22 > 0:10:26It's a very popular area, so no wonder Norman and Sally

0:10:26 > 0:10:31want to return, and with Ali's help, spend a lot more time here.

0:10:31 > 0:10:32How are you doing? Good to see you.

0:10:32 > 0:10:35- I'm seeing you in the flesh at last. - Yeah, absolutely!

0:10:38 > 0:10:40Well, we've set you the challenge, Ali,

0:10:40 > 0:10:43so have you come up with some interesting properties for me?

0:10:43 > 0:10:44Well, it has been a challenge, yes.

0:10:44 > 0:10:47Yes, we have got a nice range of properties for you.

0:10:47 > 0:10:50We thought we would get a good mixture of properties, you know,

0:10:50 > 0:10:53so you can have different options.

0:10:53 > 0:10:55But I think you will be pleased with them. I hope at the end of it,

0:10:55 > 0:10:59you find it difficult to decide which one to go for.

0:10:59 > 0:11:01But I'm sure you'll find something.

0:11:01 > 0:11:03You think it will be difficult for me to say no?

0:11:03 > 0:11:04Well, I certainly hope so.

0:11:06 > 0:11:09But it's not just Norman making the decisions.

0:11:09 > 0:11:14At each property, he will video-call Sally back in the UK

0:11:14 > 0:11:16to make sure that they get what they both want

0:11:16 > 0:11:18from their £1,000-a-month budget.

0:11:18 > 0:11:20So I guess we're heading out of town?

0:11:20 > 0:11:24We're heading out of town, across the lagoon, if you want to call it.

0:11:25 > 0:11:29Ali is taking Norman across the lagoon to property number one...

0:11:30 > 0:11:33..located in one of Norman and Sally's preferred locations...

0:11:36 > 0:11:40This popular area is located 12 miles east of the Old Town of Cadiz.

0:11:42 > 0:11:44Everything you need is around you,

0:11:44 > 0:11:48so you can very quickly get to restaurants and to...

0:11:48 > 0:11:50bars.

0:11:50 > 0:11:55El Puerto de Santa Maria has certainly got a lot going for it.

0:11:55 > 0:11:57Apart from its excellent bars,

0:11:57 > 0:12:01restaurants and shopping facilities, the town is steeped in history,

0:12:01 > 0:12:05wonderfully expressed by its museums and many monuments.

0:12:07 > 0:12:10About ten minutes' drive from the town centre,

0:12:10 > 0:12:12Ali and Norman reach their destination.

0:12:12 > 0:12:15So what we are seeing today is an apartment.

0:12:15 > 0:12:17- Right, OK.- It's a top-floor apartment

0:12:17 > 0:12:19with great views of the sea.

0:12:19 > 0:12:21And does it have a lift? Because...

0:12:21 > 0:12:23- Oh, yes, it does.- Phew!

0:12:27 > 0:12:30This two-bedroom apartment has everything Norman and Sally

0:12:30 > 0:12:32would need for modern living,

0:12:32 > 0:12:35with the most beautiful views over the Bay of Cadiz.

0:12:35 > 0:12:37- OK, here we have the kitchen. - Right, OK.

0:12:37 > 0:12:39It's a galley kitchen, you'd say, would you?

0:12:39 > 0:12:41Yeah. It's a smallish kitchen,

0:12:41 > 0:12:43but that is normal in Spanish apartments.

0:12:43 > 0:12:46The bathroom and bedrooms are all of a good size.

0:12:47 > 0:12:50- Storage...- Built-in cupboard.- Yeah. A nice big bed.

0:12:50 > 0:12:54For Ali, the best room in the apartment is the living room.

0:12:54 > 0:12:56This is the piece de resistance of the place.

0:12:56 > 0:12:58"This is the piece de resistance."

0:12:58 > 0:13:01You have your balcony there, that you can have your breakfast.

0:13:01 > 0:13:03Internally, I think the space is good.

0:13:03 > 0:13:05I think it's a little bit dated.

0:13:05 > 0:13:09But the apartment does have one timeless quality -

0:13:09 > 0:13:11the view.

0:13:11 > 0:13:13- There certainly is a view. - It's amazing view.

0:13:13 > 0:13:16I'll give you that, Ali, this is a view.

0:13:16 > 0:13:18A spectacular view.

0:13:18 > 0:13:20But does it have the rental price to match?

0:13:20 > 0:13:22This is, including the bills,

0:13:22 > 0:13:24910 a month.

0:13:25 > 0:13:30£910 is well within their £1,000 budget.

0:13:30 > 0:13:34And, back in snowy Sandhurst, Sally is hoping that Property 1

0:13:34 > 0:13:36is fitting the bill.

0:13:36 > 0:13:40One of the most important things to me, and to Norman, really,

0:13:40 > 0:13:41is the kitchen.

0:13:43 > 0:13:47Time for Sally's virtual tour with Norman.

0:13:47 > 0:13:48Hi, Sally, how are you doing?

0:13:48 > 0:13:50I'm all right. How are you, sweetheart?

0:13:50 > 0:13:54- You're looking well.- Have you missed me?- Of course I've missed you.

0:13:54 > 0:13:57Nobody to make my morning cup of tea.

0:13:57 > 0:13:59Well, listen, here we are.

0:13:59 > 0:14:00It's an apartment building.

0:14:00 > 0:14:02It's on the 11th floor.

0:14:02 > 0:14:04- The what?!- The 11th floor,

0:14:04 > 0:14:07but there's a lift, so I think we should have a little look around,

0:14:07 > 0:14:09- shall we?- Oh, yes, please.

0:14:09 > 0:14:12First up, the all-important kitchen.

0:14:12 > 0:14:14It looks very well-equipped.

0:14:14 > 0:14:17It looks as though it's got everything we need.

0:14:17 > 0:14:19Then, a peek at the bedrooms.

0:14:19 > 0:14:24Yes, I think it looks fine, and there's plenty of storage space.

0:14:24 > 0:14:26After the conversation they have together,

0:14:26 > 0:14:28it will be interesting to see what becomes that.

0:14:28 > 0:14:31But, you know, depends. Individuals look for different things,

0:14:31 > 0:14:33so I'm looking forward to see what Sally says.

0:14:33 > 0:14:35Oh, what amazing views!

0:14:35 > 0:14:40The problem is the balance between the budget and the...

0:14:40 > 0:14:43time of the year and what they want.

0:14:43 > 0:14:47It's going to be a tough Rubik Cube to try to get around and get it right.

0:14:47 > 0:14:49Can I ask - you haven't told

0:14:49 > 0:14:51me yet - how much that one is?

0:14:51 > 0:14:55It's £910 per month, fully-inclusive.

0:14:55 > 0:14:58I think it's a lot of money

0:14:58 > 0:14:59for where it is.

0:14:59 > 0:15:03I think you're right. And I think it gives us a benchmark as to whether

0:15:03 > 0:15:07we're expecting too much for our money, or not enough for our money,

0:15:07 > 0:15:11or whatever it happens to be.

0:15:11 > 0:15:12So what did the boss say?

0:15:12 > 0:15:16What did the boss say? Well, I think we're both...in agreement, really.

0:15:16 > 0:15:19I think what we thought was, in terms of space, it's great -

0:15:19 > 0:15:21there's loads of space inside -

0:15:21 > 0:15:23square footage, square metres, or whatever.

0:15:23 > 0:15:26But I think there are a couple of negatives,

0:15:26 > 0:15:28which are it's on the 11th floor,

0:15:28 > 0:15:31and if there was a problem with the lift, etc.

0:15:31 > 0:15:34I think the apartment really wasn't bad.

0:15:34 > 0:15:38I mean, dated, yes, but, you know, let's face it,

0:15:38 > 0:15:40a lot of these rentals ARE dated.

0:15:40 > 0:15:41Location-wise,

0:15:41 > 0:15:45a little bit too far from the centre of civilisation, and to be able to

0:15:45 > 0:15:48go to the markets and amenities and such as that.

0:15:48 > 0:15:51I think the actual apartment, it...

0:15:51 > 0:15:56it would suit us, you know, if it was in, probably, a better location.

0:15:57 > 0:16:00So Property 1 has offered much food for thought.

0:16:00 > 0:16:03Available to rent for £910 a month,

0:16:03 > 0:16:06inclusive of bills,

0:16:06 > 0:16:08it offers the internal space they're looking for,

0:16:08 > 0:16:12with breathtaking views.

0:16:12 > 0:16:14But being on the 11th floor and not

0:16:14 > 0:16:15in the centre of town has added

0:16:15 > 0:16:19a little uncertainty to their overall feelings for the place.

0:16:20 > 0:16:23It has, however, given them a benchmark to work from

0:16:23 > 0:16:26in terms of just how far their budget will stretch,

0:16:26 > 0:16:29and has given Ali a better idea of

0:16:29 > 0:16:31what's REALLY important for both of them.

0:16:39 > 0:16:41While Norman is looking for the perfect winter home,

0:16:41 > 0:16:44back in the UK, Sally's thoughts are turning to

0:16:44 > 0:16:46ways of minimising their expenditure.

0:16:48 > 0:16:53I think there are few areas where we will save money whilst we're away.

0:16:53 > 0:16:57There's the obvious ones of heating and lighting costs.

0:16:57 > 0:17:01And then a major saving for us would be fuel costs.

0:17:01 > 0:17:03We live in the country,

0:17:03 > 0:17:05so if we have to go to the shops

0:17:05 > 0:17:08or if I have to go to the gym, or anywhere -

0:17:08 > 0:17:10just going out in general -

0:17:10 > 0:17:12we have to get in the car.

0:17:12 > 0:17:14And, of course, fuel costs a lot of money,

0:17:14 > 0:17:19whereas, abroad, we perhaps would walk most of the way,

0:17:19 > 0:17:21or even get a bus now and again.

0:17:22 > 0:17:26And the other major saving would be food costs.

0:17:26 > 0:17:29We are very, very keen cooks,

0:17:29 > 0:17:32and we use a lot of local produce.

0:17:32 > 0:17:35And the cost of fruit, veg, fish,

0:17:35 > 0:17:38the usual things one gets in Spain,

0:17:38 > 0:17:40are a lot less expensive,

0:17:40 > 0:17:44as well as eating out is a lot less expensive in Spain

0:17:44 > 0:17:46as it is in the UK.

0:17:52 > 0:17:55As Sally manages the pennies at home,

0:17:55 > 0:17:57in Cadiz, Ali has ditched the car

0:17:57 > 0:18:01and is taking Norman on foot to see property number two.

0:18:02 > 0:18:05It's in an area that will certainly please Norman -

0:18:05 > 0:18:08Cadiz Old Town.

0:18:08 > 0:18:10- Where we are going to is one of the older parts of the city.- Right.

0:18:10 > 0:18:14So this part of the town is the old merchant town...part.

0:18:14 > 0:18:17Yeah, it looks very interesting.

0:18:17 > 0:18:21Cadiz Old Town is located in the north of the thin stretch of land

0:18:21 > 0:18:22that is Cadiz City.

0:18:24 > 0:18:27This ancient city was founded around 1100 BC

0:18:27 > 0:18:31and features over 3,000 years of archaeological remains.

0:18:32 > 0:18:35So this is the kind of area you were thinking about?

0:18:35 > 0:18:37- Exactly the type of area we had in mind.- Oh, great!

0:18:37 > 0:18:41- Exactly the type of area. - So we got the area right...

0:18:41 > 0:18:43The area is absolutely spot-on.

0:18:43 > 0:18:45- OK.- You just need to find the right property now.

0:18:47 > 0:18:49Not an easy task in such a popular city.

0:18:50 > 0:18:54Very few places offer such a mix of old and new.

0:18:54 > 0:18:57History, art, architecture,

0:18:57 > 0:19:00coastal walks, shopping,

0:19:00 > 0:19:02parks, music and food...

0:19:04 > 0:19:07..the beautiful city of Cadiz has it all.

0:19:07 > 0:19:10The building on our left is where we're going to take you.

0:19:10 > 0:19:14- Oh, right.- OK? You can see traditional old Juliet balconies.

0:19:14 > 0:19:16And we're on the fourth floor.

0:19:16 > 0:19:18- Right.- There's no lift...

0:19:18 > 0:19:21- No lift?- ..but, trust me, it's worth going up there.

0:19:23 > 0:19:27These old merchant buildings commonly had central courtyards and,

0:19:27 > 0:19:32although extensively renovated, many still contain original features.

0:19:32 > 0:19:35These will be the original stairways, the original architecture?

0:19:35 > 0:19:37They are actually the very original materials.

0:19:37 > 0:19:41Even though it's been renovated, it'll have been renovated with original...?

0:19:41 > 0:19:44- Yes, the marble steps.- Marble stairways.- You can see they're rare from them.

0:19:44 > 0:19:48- You can feel it under your feet. - You can do, yes, absolutely.

0:19:48 > 0:19:53This fourth-floor, one-bed apartment is the perfect modern hideaway,

0:19:53 > 0:19:56wrapped up and held firm within hundreds of years of history.

0:19:58 > 0:20:00- Look at this.- Wow, eh?

0:20:00 > 0:20:02A successful marriage of old and new can be seen

0:20:02 > 0:20:04right throughout the apartment.

0:20:04 > 0:20:07So you have a fully-equipped kitchen.

0:20:07 > 0:20:10And you've got the hob and all the equipment you need.

0:20:10 > 0:20:11- It's very modern. Very modern.- Yes.

0:20:11 > 0:20:14It's got a nice big shower, very well-appointed.

0:20:14 > 0:20:16And then go on back, into the living area.

0:20:18 > 0:20:22The open-plan living area is spacious and beautifully decorated,

0:20:22 > 0:20:24with modern necessities, including Wi-Fi.

0:20:26 > 0:20:29- Nice-shaped room, isn't it? Lots of space, lots of light.- Lots of space.

0:20:29 > 0:20:32And the spaciousness carries on into the bedroom.

0:20:32 > 0:20:36- That's a good size.- It's a good size...- Excellent size.- ..and it's very nicely lit.

0:20:36 > 0:20:38- It is.- And we have got a magic cupboard there.

0:20:38 > 0:20:41A magic cupboard? It looks like an Aladdin's cave to me.

0:20:41 > 0:20:43It does - it's beautifully done.

0:20:43 > 0:20:45Certainly has got some wow to it.

0:20:45 > 0:20:48Norman seems a very happy man so far,

0:20:48 > 0:20:50and there's still more to see.

0:20:50 > 0:20:53- Here's your Juliet balcony...- Yep. - ..which, in the evenings,

0:20:53 > 0:20:56you can go down and get your guitar and serenade Sally.

0:20:56 > 0:20:59- How did you know I had a guitar? - Oh, well, there you go, you see...

0:20:59 > 0:21:01- You've been doing your research. - ALI LAUGHS

0:21:01 > 0:21:03That's just amazing, that.

0:21:03 > 0:21:07A very, very pleasing experience so far for Norman and Ali.

0:21:07 > 0:21:09It's good. Excellent.

0:21:09 > 0:21:10We've hit all the buttons.

0:21:10 > 0:21:12Apart from one.

0:21:12 > 0:21:13- No lifts?- No lifts.

0:21:13 > 0:21:15Oh, I have a solution for that.

0:21:16 > 0:21:18When you want to bring things like washing machine and luggage

0:21:18 > 0:21:21and so on, what you have to use is a bit of ingenuity, OK?

0:21:21 > 0:21:25So you think I'm going to strap Sally on the bottom of this and bring her upstairs?

0:21:25 > 0:21:27Yeah! And your luggage, and bring it up.

0:21:27 > 0:21:30Clearly, Ali is having a lot of fun,

0:21:30 > 0:21:33but the quirky details within these old buildings

0:21:33 > 0:21:35add to their unique character.

0:21:38 > 0:21:41The plus side of being on the fourth floor means there's a short walk to

0:21:41 > 0:21:44the incredible roof terrace.

0:21:44 > 0:21:46It's quite peaceful up here.

0:21:46 > 0:21:47- It is.- Very peaceful.

0:21:47 > 0:21:50In terms of location, it's exactly what we're looking for,

0:21:50 > 0:21:53- there's no doubt about it. - So we've got the location right.

0:21:53 > 0:21:56You got the location right. You got... The apartment is...

0:21:56 > 0:21:58- is amazing.- Bearing all that in mind,

0:21:58 > 0:22:00and bearing in mind this is the centre of Cadiz...

0:22:00 > 0:22:02- You're going to ask me how much I think the rent is, are you?- Yeah.

0:22:02 > 0:22:07I'm going to say...above the budget that we wanted to spend,

0:22:07 > 0:22:10and I'm going at £1,200 per month.

0:22:10 > 0:22:11You're amazingly close.

0:22:11 > 0:22:13- It's £1,300 a month, OK...- Right.

0:22:13 > 0:22:17..but it's only available for six weeks.

0:22:17 > 0:22:19From when till when?

0:22:19 > 0:22:22It's for the carnival, it's being let.

0:22:22 > 0:22:26Norman and Sally would like to spend at least two months in Cadiz.

0:22:26 > 0:22:28However, this apartment is only available in January

0:22:28 > 0:22:30and the first week in February

0:22:30 > 0:22:33because it is booked for the February carnival.

0:22:34 > 0:22:36OK, well, that's something we'd need to discuss with Sally. Yeah?

0:22:36 > 0:22:39- Absolutely. OK, let's go and talk. - Let's go and give her a call.

0:22:39 > 0:22:40- OK.- OK.

0:22:40 > 0:22:43With properties booked up literally months in advance,

0:22:43 > 0:22:46and rentals sky-high over festival time,

0:22:46 > 0:22:49this property gives Norman and Sally a taste of living right in the

0:22:49 > 0:22:51centre of Cadiz.

0:22:51 > 0:22:54But will they decide it's worth pushing their budget for,

0:22:54 > 0:22:57and will Sally be able to see past all those stairs?

0:22:57 > 0:23:00Yesterday, I thought was very good, however,

0:23:00 > 0:23:03I'm hoping this one is perhaps more central,

0:23:03 > 0:23:07and perhaps a little bit more, not modern, but a bit more up-to-date,

0:23:07 > 0:23:08let's put it that way.

0:23:08 > 0:23:11OK, it's time for Sally's virtual tour.

0:23:11 > 0:23:13Hello! How are you?

0:23:13 > 0:23:14How are you, all right?

0:23:14 > 0:23:16Are you ready to see this property?

0:23:16 > 0:23:18I am, I'm waiting indeed.

0:23:18 > 0:23:20I'll tell you a little bit about it first.

0:23:20 > 0:23:23We are in the old part of Cadiz.

0:23:23 > 0:23:26Super-duper. Come on, then - let's see.

0:23:26 > 0:23:28It's all very, very modern.

0:23:28 > 0:23:30Oh, wow.

0:23:30 > 0:23:32I think it looks absolutely fabulous.

0:23:32 > 0:23:36I can't really say enough about this. It's really, really nice

0:23:36 > 0:23:38inside, beautifully done. But let's see what Sally thinks.

0:23:38 > 0:23:41It's quite nice that it's two separate areas -

0:23:41 > 0:23:44the dining area at one end, near the kitchen, isn't it?

0:23:44 > 0:23:46And, then, the lounge area at the other end.

0:23:46 > 0:23:48It looks very nice indeed.

0:23:48 > 0:23:51I think this one is just the place they wanted to be.

0:23:51 > 0:23:54The centre of Cadiz, amongst everything, you know,

0:23:54 > 0:23:56close to beach, close to shops,

0:23:56 > 0:23:58close to where life really happens.

0:23:58 > 0:24:01And you can have a look out over the...

0:24:01 > 0:24:02Oh, that is amazing!

0:24:02 > 0:24:04It looks lovely.

0:24:04 > 0:24:06What floor is it on? You didn't say.

0:24:06 > 0:24:09Right, well, it is actually on the fourth floor...

0:24:09 > 0:24:11Right. Is there a lift?

0:24:11 > 0:24:12..and there isn't a lift.

0:24:12 > 0:24:15I think the deal-breaker might be the lift.

0:24:15 > 0:24:16It is quite a few steps to go up,

0:24:16 > 0:24:20but I think it's worth it when you get up there. The views are amazing.

0:24:20 > 0:24:24And that view is the next port of call for Norman and Sally.

0:24:24 > 0:24:27The outside space looks amazing.

0:24:27 > 0:24:30Sally is extremely happy with the rooftop terrace.

0:24:30 > 0:24:33But how will she feel about it being over-budget?

0:24:34 > 0:24:38It's 1,300 per month, all-inclusive.

0:24:38 > 0:24:40That's very expensive, isn't it?

0:24:40 > 0:24:42There is one other factor to take into account,

0:24:42 > 0:24:44which is that it's only available

0:24:44 > 0:24:47from he 4th of January to the 8th of February

0:24:47 > 0:24:50because of the carnival, which is,

0:24:50 > 0:24:53essentially, around about five/six weeks.

0:24:53 > 0:24:58So that is something else we would need to factor in and think about.

0:24:58 > 0:25:00The price is a little bit over what they wanted,

0:25:00 > 0:25:03but that is the nature of Cadiz and the period of time they want to be

0:25:03 > 0:25:06here. But given that the property is only available for six weeks,

0:25:06 > 0:25:08that might actually make it affordable for them

0:25:08 > 0:25:11because they are not staying here for the full two months.

0:25:11 > 0:25:14I think it's a definite contender,

0:25:14 > 0:25:17and it's something we've got to discuss.

0:25:17 > 0:25:21Right, OK, well, we'll leave it at that for now, and we'll speak later.

0:25:22 > 0:25:25- So?- So, I've spoken to the boss.

0:25:25 > 0:25:28- What did the boss say?- Well, she's in agreement with me -

0:25:28 > 0:25:30it's a beautiful apartment, there's no doubt about that.

0:25:30 > 0:25:31Yeah, it really is lovely.

0:25:31 > 0:25:34It's really well-kitted-out, it's in the right location.

0:25:34 > 0:25:38It was absolutely wonderful to see something in Cadiz.

0:25:38 > 0:25:42It's a city we love and that's where we'd, ideally, want to go.

0:25:42 > 0:25:45So actually seeing a property there was fantastic.

0:25:45 > 0:25:50The only fly in the ointment would be the eight flights of stairs -

0:25:50 > 0:25:53- I think there's about 70 stairs altogether.- The lift?- The absence of a lift, yeah.

0:25:53 > 0:25:55But, look, don't write it off yet...

0:25:55 > 0:25:57- No.- ..because a number of reasons.

0:25:57 > 0:25:59One is, this is the only property we've managed to find

0:25:59 > 0:26:01in Cadiz centre itself,

0:26:01 > 0:26:04and there's some compromises you have to make somewhere along

0:26:04 > 0:26:07- the line.- Absolutely. I think the other thing is, which, um,

0:26:07 > 0:26:09you mentioned, obviously, is the fact that it is only available

0:26:09 > 0:26:12between the 4th of January and the 8th of February.

0:26:12 > 0:26:15But, also, the other option you have got is perhaps stay here

0:26:15 > 0:26:17for a month, and then somewhere else for a month,

0:26:17 > 0:26:19just outside of Cadiz, in other properties that we've got.

0:26:19 > 0:26:21- Absolutely, yeah. - So you've got options.

0:26:21 > 0:26:25But this is, certainly...certainly very, very interesting.

0:26:25 > 0:26:27- Great, so...- You've done a good job with that one, Ali.

0:26:27 > 0:26:28- A great job!- OK!

0:26:30 > 0:26:33Property 2 has delivered on almost everything.

0:26:35 > 0:26:38Available to rent from £1,300 a month,

0:26:38 > 0:26:40it offers a wonderful modern interior...

0:26:41 > 0:26:43..and a fantastic rooftop terrace...

0:26:45 > 0:26:48..right in the heart of Cadiz Old Town.

0:26:48 > 0:26:49But I'm afraid there's no lift,

0:26:49 > 0:26:53and its unavailability during the carnival could be a deal-breaker.

0:26:59 > 0:27:03Norman and Sally are finding out what they can get for their money in

0:27:03 > 0:27:06Cadiz. Due to the festival in February,

0:27:06 > 0:27:09prices go up, and then availability goes down.

0:27:10 > 0:27:13However, in winter, outside carnival time,

0:27:13 > 0:27:16there are discounts to be had right across all budgets.

0:27:16 > 0:27:19The apartment they viewed in the Old Town of Cadiz

0:27:19 > 0:27:21is available for around £350 less

0:27:21 > 0:27:25during the quieter months of March and April.

0:27:26 > 0:27:29It is possible to stay in a one-bedroom apartment

0:27:29 > 0:27:33in the centre of Cadiz for around £650 a month

0:27:33 > 0:27:36in winter less than in the very busy periods.

0:27:38 > 0:27:40Or, if you are looking for a roomier option,

0:27:40 > 0:27:43take this beautiful six-bedroom villa

0:27:43 > 0:27:46with an unbeatable seafront location.

0:27:48 > 0:27:50It's set on four levels,

0:27:50 > 0:27:53the master bedroom comes with a Jacuzzi,

0:27:53 > 0:27:57and the outside area boasts a beautiful garden and infinity pool.

0:27:59 > 0:28:01Sally would just love this place.

0:28:01 > 0:28:02It even has a lift.

0:28:03 > 0:28:07Available in the summer for £5,500 a week,

0:28:07 > 0:28:12and in the winter for just under half of that price, at £2,600.

0:28:13 > 0:28:16If you're willing to forego the famous Cadiz festival,

0:28:16 > 0:28:18or indeed stay out of the city itself,

0:28:18 > 0:28:20there are great winter deals to be had.

0:28:28 > 0:28:32With the demand for rental properties within Cadiz so high,

0:28:32 > 0:28:35and Norman and Sally's property wish list ever clearer,

0:28:35 > 0:28:38Ali's hoping that Property 3, in the hills outside Cadiz,

0:28:38 > 0:28:42may offer them what they want from a property, and a great location.

0:28:44 > 0:28:47We thought maybe we'll bring you a little bit out of town to show you

0:28:47 > 0:28:50what other options you can have and what you can get for your money.

0:28:51 > 0:28:56Arcos de la Frontera is located around 45 minutes from Cadiz.

0:28:57 > 0:29:00It's a town that is familiar to Norman and Sally

0:29:00 > 0:29:03after visiting it a number of times over the years.

0:29:05 > 0:29:09One of the area's most dramatically-positioned settlements,

0:29:09 > 0:29:13Arcos was declared a national artistic monument in 1962

0:29:13 > 0:29:15in recognition of its exceptional architecture.

0:29:18 > 0:29:23The beautiful old town is a tangled labyrinth of cobbled streets that

0:29:23 > 0:29:25leads up to a sandstone castle.

0:29:27 > 0:29:29Now, it may not be Cadiz,

0:29:29 > 0:29:32but Norman and Sally would be able to experience life

0:29:32 > 0:29:35in an historic town at a vastly-cut price.

0:29:37 > 0:29:39And if they enjoy a room with a view,

0:29:39 > 0:29:41then this is THE place.

0:29:42 > 0:29:44Well, here's a house.

0:29:44 > 0:29:47- This is it?- Nice, plain door, as you always have here...

0:29:47 > 0:29:50- Quite impressive.- ..but the beauty is inside, OK?

0:29:50 > 0:29:52- Shall we go inside?- Absolutely.- OK. - Come on, let's go.

0:29:54 > 0:29:58This spacious two-bedroom town house is perched high above the river and

0:29:58 > 0:30:00comes with Wi-Fi and a garage.

0:30:02 > 0:30:05You got a large, spacious kitchen here.

0:30:05 > 0:30:08I think this is definitely the biggest kitchen we've seen so far.

0:30:08 > 0:30:09- A proper kitchen.- A proper kitchen.

0:30:09 > 0:30:11This is a good working kitchen.

0:30:13 > 0:30:16After you've made the fabulous food, you can serve it in here...

0:30:16 > 0:30:18- Excellent.- ..with a dining room with a view.

0:30:18 > 0:30:20Good gosh!

0:30:20 > 0:30:21It's an amazing view.

0:30:22 > 0:30:26The view dazzles from the inside as well as the outside.

0:30:26 > 0:30:30Well, it's as good as it was from the inside, if not better.

0:30:30 > 0:30:34The ground floor has a split-level outside space with dining areas

0:30:34 > 0:30:38surrounded by a plunge pool, plants and...

0:30:38 > 0:30:40well, a view to just die for.

0:30:40 > 0:30:42That's a load of outside space there -

0:30:42 > 0:30:45probably more than I would ever need.

0:30:45 > 0:30:47Back inside, to the upper level,

0:30:47 > 0:30:50and there are the two bedrooms that Norman and Sally are looking for...

0:30:51 > 0:30:54- Nice, bright room with the sun coming through the window.- Yeah.

0:30:54 > 0:30:55..and two bathrooms.

0:30:55 > 0:30:57Very useful. It is very useful,

0:30:57 > 0:30:59especially if you have somebody staying.

0:30:59 > 0:31:02The master bedroom in particular has got quite a lot going for it.

0:31:03 > 0:31:06It's a good-size bedroom, and it's probably got the best views

0:31:06 > 0:31:09I've ever seen from any bedroom I've ever been in, to be honest with you.

0:31:09 > 0:31:12- It's unbeatable.- And you're going to tell me those are patio doors

0:31:12 > 0:31:14- as well?- It takes you out to the terrace.

0:31:14 > 0:31:18And this is what I was talking about earlier, about value you get

0:31:18 > 0:31:21- outside of town...- Yeah.- ..or outside of main city, versus in Cadiz.

0:31:21 > 0:31:23Yeah, I can understand that.

0:31:23 > 0:31:26Seeing this property has truly offered some food for thought for Norman.

0:31:26 > 0:31:28It's a beautiful view. Beautiful.

0:31:28 > 0:31:31Ali is hoping for a positive outcome.

0:31:32 > 0:31:35So I think the all-important question is, how much is it?

0:31:35 > 0:31:37This property is £1,000 a month,

0:31:37 > 0:31:39excluding electricity.

0:31:39 > 0:31:42- Right.- Electricity is roughly about 100-150 a month.

0:31:42 > 0:31:44I think that's a little bit steep,

0:31:44 > 0:31:48for the time of year. But, listen, let's see what Sally says.

0:31:48 > 0:31:50In Sandhurst, Sally is staying positive

0:31:50 > 0:31:52as the attempt to find their

0:31:52 > 0:31:55perfect winter getaway continues.

0:31:55 > 0:31:59I think this search has been quite an eye-opener for us.

0:31:59 > 0:32:01I thought we'd be able to find somewhere...

0:32:03 > 0:32:05..in Cadiz itself.

0:32:05 > 0:32:08However, we are open to all options.

0:32:08 > 0:32:11And as long as we find the right property,

0:32:11 > 0:32:14in the right location, we'll go for it.

0:32:15 > 0:32:18- Hello!- Hello! How are you?

0:32:18 > 0:32:20Hi, Sally, how are you doing?

0:32:20 > 0:32:21I'm all right.

0:32:21 > 0:32:23Here we are at the property.

0:32:23 > 0:32:26We're in Arcos de la Frontera.

0:32:26 > 0:32:27- Right, yes.- Lovely blue skies.

0:32:27 > 0:32:30- And we'll go inside, shall we?- OK.

0:32:31 > 0:32:33Right, through the big front door.

0:32:33 > 0:32:35I'll just walk through from the dining room,

0:32:35 > 0:32:40because it leads through into the lounge area, which also has...

0:32:40 > 0:32:42Incredible view!

0:32:42 > 0:32:44..incredible views over the countryside.

0:32:44 > 0:32:47Blimey. It looks absolutely fabulous.

0:32:47 > 0:32:50Those views are amazing.

0:32:50 > 0:32:51They are amazing, aren't they?

0:32:51 > 0:32:55The ground floor has impressed, but it's time to go upstairs.

0:32:55 > 0:32:59Spin round into the first of the bedrooms, which is the smaller twin

0:32:59 > 0:33:02- bedroom.- That looks nice. Very nice.

0:33:02 > 0:33:03For the same kind of money -

0:33:03 > 0:33:07or, in fact, less money than we can get in probably one or two-bedroom

0:33:07 > 0:33:09apartment in Cadiz -

0:33:09 > 0:33:14here, you can get a huge two-bedroom house with lots of space outside,

0:33:14 > 0:33:16fantastic views,

0:33:16 > 0:33:20and...peace and quiet and tranquillity, really.

0:33:20 > 0:33:23So it's just wanting him to see the contrast.

0:33:23 > 0:33:26Hopefully, it hasn't really been too far out for him.

0:33:27 > 0:33:31But it just shows how challenging it is to find places in Cadiz itself.

0:33:31 > 0:33:33What are your impressions of the second floor?

0:33:33 > 0:33:36Looks absolutely fantastic.

0:33:36 > 0:33:38It's very big.

0:33:38 > 0:33:41Big on the inside and plenty of space on the outside.

0:33:41 > 0:33:43Very peaceful and quiet.

0:33:43 > 0:33:46It's absolutely amazing.

0:33:46 > 0:33:50A wonderful property in a beautiful place.

0:33:50 > 0:33:54I think it would be absolutely fabulous and amazing in the summer.

0:33:54 > 0:33:56However, I'm not so sure about the winter.

0:33:56 > 0:34:00And it looks rather large just for the two of us.

0:34:00 > 0:34:02But you still haven't told me the price.

0:34:02 > 0:34:04It's 1,000 a month,

0:34:04 > 0:34:06plus electricity,

0:34:06 > 0:34:08which is estimated at being

0:34:08 > 0:34:10somewhere around about another 150.

0:34:10 > 0:34:15I think... If there was more of us, I think it would be ideal.

0:34:15 > 0:34:18But I think it looks rather large for us.

0:34:18 > 0:34:21OK, brilliant. Well, I'll speak to you later.

0:34:21 > 0:34:22OK, you take care.

0:34:24 > 0:34:27- What did Sally think? - Well, surprisingly enough -

0:34:27 > 0:34:30and you may be surprised at this - she actually agreed with me.

0:34:30 > 0:34:32- Oh, my goodness!- Oh, my goodness, I don't believe it.

0:34:32 > 0:34:34Yes, she agreed with me.

0:34:34 > 0:34:36She thought it was a fabulous property.

0:34:36 > 0:34:37Loads of space.

0:34:37 > 0:34:42If anything, possibly a little bit too big for just the two of us.

0:34:42 > 0:34:46Property 3 has certainly been an eye-opener for Norman and Sally.

0:34:46 > 0:34:50Available to rent at the top end of their budget, at £1,000 a month...

0:34:52 > 0:34:53..its spacious rooms,

0:34:53 > 0:34:57generous outside space and, best of all, views that are hard to top,

0:34:57 > 0:34:59have left a big impression.

0:35:01 > 0:35:04But it's also a negative for them.

0:35:04 > 0:35:06Too much space for just two people.

0:35:06 > 0:35:10And they have to decide if it's a little too far away from Cadiz.

0:35:17 > 0:35:20As Sally's aware, once they're living abroad in the winter,

0:35:20 > 0:35:22she and Norman will not only enjoy

0:35:22 > 0:35:24a more outdoor lifestyle, but a cheaper one...

0:35:25 > 0:35:28..with everything from utilities to shopping

0:35:28 > 0:35:31around half the price of the UK.

0:35:31 > 0:35:34And by renting a property for the winter months, they're able to live

0:35:34 > 0:35:39abroad without needing a large lump sum to buy a property or making a

0:35:39 > 0:35:40long-term financial commitment.

0:35:47 > 0:35:50In Spain, Norman is back on the road with Ali,

0:35:50 > 0:35:53trying to find that perfect winter getaway property

0:35:53 > 0:35:54for himself and Sally.

0:35:56 > 0:35:59The object of the exercise is to live somewhere

0:35:59 > 0:36:02that we like, where we can experience more of the culture

0:36:02 > 0:36:05and the climate, the people, the food.

0:36:05 > 0:36:07Which is why the facilities,

0:36:07 > 0:36:10amenities and access to them is important to us.

0:36:10 > 0:36:13Ali has taken Norman 40 minutes along the Bay of Cadiz

0:36:13 > 0:36:15to the town of Rota.

0:36:15 > 0:36:19It's an old fishing village that goes back to the Phoenician times,

0:36:19 > 0:36:22so it's got a long history.

0:36:22 > 0:36:25Nowadays, this historic town is very popular with tourists,

0:36:25 > 0:36:28with its population swelling in the busy summer months.

0:36:30 > 0:36:34In winter, its beautiful beaches may be quieter but, due to the fishing

0:36:34 > 0:36:39industry and nearby naval base, it doesn't shut up shop altogether.

0:36:40 > 0:36:44But because of its nature, it doesn't sort of die in the winter.

0:36:44 > 0:36:48And as being in the centre of the action is so important to Norman and

0:36:48 > 0:36:50Sally, Ali has found an apartment

0:36:50 > 0:36:54just five minutes walk from the centre of the town and the coast.

0:36:54 > 0:36:56You can see the sea from here.

0:36:56 > 0:36:59You can. I'll be able to run down there every morning.

0:36:59 > 0:37:01- Yes, you can.- Dive in.

0:37:01 > 0:37:04The apartment is located in a residential area

0:37:04 > 0:37:07with shops and cafes close by.

0:37:07 > 0:37:09- So, here we are...- Here we are. - ..this is the apartment.

0:37:09 > 0:37:11- OK? Ground floor. - Ground floor?- One bedroom.

0:37:11 > 0:37:13So shall we go inside?

0:37:14 > 0:37:18This one-bedroom apartment has been recently refurbished with a very

0:37:18 > 0:37:19modern finish.

0:37:19 > 0:37:23- Well, it looks very, very... - Nice, nice apartment. - Very well-presented, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:37:23 > 0:37:28The main living space is open-plan, with a fully-equipped kitchen

0:37:28 > 0:37:30and a light and bright lounge area.

0:37:30 > 0:37:33You can't fault it for its style and cleanliness.

0:37:33 > 0:37:35The bathroom...

0:37:35 > 0:37:37It's excellent. Lovely, modern bathroom.

0:37:37 > 0:37:40..and bedroom are finished to the same high standard.

0:37:40 > 0:37:43That's a good-size bedroom - plenty of space.

0:37:43 > 0:37:44Yep, loads of light.

0:37:44 > 0:37:47Outside, there's a large private terrace.

0:37:47 > 0:37:50You almost have the same amount of room outside as you do inside.

0:37:50 > 0:37:52- Outside as inside.- Yeah.

0:37:52 > 0:37:54There's also a communal roof terrace.

0:37:54 > 0:37:56Oh, the sea.

0:37:56 > 0:37:57It's the sea view.

0:37:57 > 0:37:58The sea.

0:37:58 > 0:38:02And for £1,000 per month, including all bills,

0:38:02 > 0:38:04this apartment is within budget.

0:38:04 > 0:38:06Oh, I'm excited.

0:38:06 > 0:38:08We've seen some fabulous properties,

0:38:08 > 0:38:10but I'm hoping this is going to be the one.

0:38:10 > 0:38:14Norman's impressed with the look of the place, but will he and Sally

0:38:14 > 0:38:17feel this is value for money for a one-bedroom apartment?

0:38:20 > 0:38:22Well, here we are in sunny Rota.

0:38:22 > 0:38:23So we'll go inside, shall we?

0:38:25 > 0:38:27This is the galley kitchen area.

0:38:28 > 0:38:31This is the shower room with a large walk-in shower.

0:38:31 > 0:38:36It looks small but it looks very, very clean and very modern.

0:38:36 > 0:38:39I think there's lots of positive things about this place.

0:38:39 > 0:38:41It's near the beach - literally 200 metres from the beach.

0:38:41 > 0:38:44It's near the shops and everything else.

0:38:44 > 0:38:45So I hope Sally likes it.

0:38:45 > 0:38:48I'm very impressed with the outside area.

0:38:48 > 0:38:49It's excellent.

0:38:49 > 0:38:52Hopefully, the roof space also gets a thumbs-up.

0:38:52 > 0:38:57And, as you can see, there's the glorious seaside beyond.

0:38:57 > 0:38:59Oh, yes. I see now, yeah.

0:38:59 > 0:39:03With the final virtual tour over, Norman talks budget.

0:39:03 > 0:39:09£1,000 per month, fully-inclusive of everything.

0:39:09 > 0:39:14Right. Well, I think it's probably a fair price for later on in the year.

0:39:14 > 0:39:16But I'd have thought, at this time of year,

0:39:16 > 0:39:18I'd have thought it was quite expensive.

0:39:18 > 0:39:21Do you know, Sally, I think we must have been married too long,

0:39:21 > 0:39:22cos that's exactly what I said.

0:39:22 > 0:39:26I'm a little bit concerned about expectations and their budget

0:39:26 > 0:39:29and what their criterias are.

0:39:29 > 0:39:30I hope we can find him something.

0:39:30 > 0:39:32I think it's got a lot of positives.

0:39:32 > 0:39:34It has - an awful lot of positives.

0:39:34 > 0:39:35Food for thought.

0:39:35 > 0:39:36Food for thought.

0:39:38 > 0:39:41Superb place, brilliant apartment...

0:39:41 > 0:39:43- Great.- ..good location.

0:39:43 > 0:39:46I don't think the size entirely put me off it,

0:39:46 > 0:39:49because it is such a lovely little apartment.

0:39:49 > 0:39:53However, I think it is something that Norman and I would have

0:39:53 > 0:39:55real discussions about.

0:39:56 > 0:40:00Available to rent within their budget, for £1,000 a month -

0:40:00 > 0:40:02of course, including bills -

0:40:02 > 0:40:07this compact one-bedroom apartment is everything Norman and Sally need.

0:40:07 > 0:40:10It's also close to the beach and local amenities,

0:40:10 > 0:40:13but they're not sure if it's big enough for an extended stay.

0:40:13 > 0:40:17And, more importantly, can Norman and Sally come to terms

0:40:17 > 0:40:20with being anywhere other than Cadiz city?

0:40:27 > 0:40:31The sun is setting on Norman's time in Cadiz.

0:40:31 > 0:40:33With Ali's help, Norman and Sally

0:40:33 > 0:40:35have seen four very different properties

0:40:35 > 0:40:37in four very different areas.

0:40:37 > 0:40:39Hello, how are you?

0:40:39 > 0:40:41How are you doing? I've got Ali next to me.

0:40:41 > 0:40:44- Hi, Sally.- Hi, nice to see you again.

0:40:44 > 0:40:46They've been searching for that rental property

0:40:46 > 0:40:49that they can call home for two months.

0:40:49 > 0:40:51They loved some of the properties...

0:40:51 > 0:40:54I thought the apartment was absolutely fabulous.

0:40:54 > 0:40:57It just goes to show you how difficult it is

0:40:57 > 0:40:59to find something for Cadiz in February-time.

0:40:59 > 0:41:01..and some of the locations...

0:41:01 > 0:41:05What an absolutely beautiful house

0:41:05 > 0:41:07in a fabulous location,

0:41:07 > 0:41:09with outstanding views.

0:41:09 > 0:41:12..which leaves them with a big decision to make.

0:41:12 > 0:41:13We'd just like to thank you

0:41:13 > 0:41:16for all of your help and wish you all the best for the future.

0:41:16 > 0:41:18Take care. Bye-bye.

0:41:18 > 0:41:20See you, Sally. See you later.

0:41:20 > 0:41:21- Bye.- Bye!

0:41:21 > 0:41:25- Cheers.- Cheers, all the best. - Pleased to meet you.- You take care.

0:41:30 > 0:41:34Norman and Sally wanted to get away and decided that renting abroad was

0:41:34 > 0:41:36the key to making it happen.

0:41:36 > 0:41:41You can do a month, six months, in one part of Spain.

0:41:41 > 0:41:43Next year, and you might think,

0:41:43 > 0:41:47"Oh, I want to go to Miami, or I want to go to Italy," or wherever,

0:41:47 > 0:41:52so you can rent and you get the whole benefit of living there.

0:41:52 > 0:41:56The first property they saw, in El Puerto de Santa Maria,

0:41:56 > 0:41:57offered some great views...

0:41:57 > 0:42:00I'll give you that, Ali - this is a view.

0:42:00 > 0:42:02..but there are some drawbacks.

0:42:02 > 0:42:04It's on the 11th floor.

0:42:04 > 0:42:06The what?!

0:42:06 > 0:42:09The apartment in Cadiz Old Town made quite an impact.

0:42:09 > 0:42:11- Look at this.- Wow! Eh?

0:42:11 > 0:42:15It was their dream location, but with a few stumbling blocks.

0:42:15 > 0:42:17It's only available for six weeks.

0:42:18 > 0:42:22Ali showed them something different, in size and location,

0:42:22 > 0:42:24in Arcos de la Frontera.

0:42:24 > 0:42:28It's probably got the best views I've ever seen from any bedroom

0:42:28 > 0:42:29I've ever been in.

0:42:29 > 0:42:33In Rota, they liked the location and the apartment but questioned its

0:42:33 > 0:42:35suitability for a longer stay.

0:42:35 > 0:42:37Food for thought.

0:42:37 > 0:42:39Big question is, did they decide

0:42:39 > 0:42:42that any of the properties were right for them?

0:42:42 > 0:42:44- BOTH:- Hi!- Hello.

0:42:44 > 0:42:47We're still here in Kent, unfortunately.

0:42:47 > 0:42:53We haven't managed to make it out to Cadiz, as we wanted to do.

0:42:53 > 0:42:55Ultimately, Norman and Sally decided

0:42:55 > 0:42:59that the only destination for them is the old city of Cadiz.

0:43:00 > 0:43:04Despite the fact we couldn't sort out something for this year,

0:43:04 > 0:43:07I think it's cemented in our minds that Cadiz is definitely where we'd

0:43:07 > 0:43:09like to spend the winter next year.

0:43:09 > 0:43:13Though we intend to go out there late-autumn, early-winter

0:43:13 > 0:43:15and give ourselves a little bit more time.

0:43:15 > 0:43:17OK, the festival will still be on next year -

0:43:17 > 0:43:19that won't go away - but we might...

0:43:19 > 0:43:22If we give ourselves more time to find a property,

0:43:22 > 0:43:25I think we'll have a better chance of being able to do a deal on one.

0:43:25 > 0:43:29But we are definitely planning to go next winter.
