0:00:02 > 0:00:03Oh!

0:00:03 > 0:00:07Families from across Britain are about to try home swapping.

0:00:08 > 0:00:12That's great. We can leave them with that. Who's going to drive?

0:00:12 > 0:00:13They don't know each other

0:00:13 > 0:00:19and have no idea yet where they'll be calling home for the next three days.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21Honey, honey, honey, honey, look at that.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23It's a home away from home.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26- Perhaps it's dark and sinister in there. - SHE GASPS

0:00:26 > 0:00:30Each family will have to suggest local places for their home swappers

0:00:30 > 0:00:34to visit, as well as a favourite restaurant.

0:00:34 > 0:00:35- BOTH:- Cheers!

0:00:37 > 0:00:38Oh!

0:00:38 > 0:00:42And they'll be scoring each other on the location, the day out

0:00:42 > 0:00:44and their temporary home.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46Oh, ba-na!

0:00:46 > 0:00:50Only on their return will they get to see who has been

0:00:50 > 0:00:51living in their house...

0:00:51 > 0:00:53Oh-ho-ho!

0:00:53 > 0:00:55It is!

0:00:56 > 0:01:01..and find out who has provided the best home swapping experience.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03They gave me a ten!

0:01:03 > 0:01:04THEY LAUGH

0:01:09 > 0:01:13Today we start in the village of Box in Wiltshire.

0:01:13 > 0:01:18Our first home swappers are mother and daughter Emma and Lili.

0:01:18 > 0:01:21So, this is my studio. This is where I do all of my creative work.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24I started off doing my mosaics and then, a few years ago,

0:01:24 > 0:01:29I discovered yarns and teaching crochet so I do this kind of thing.

0:01:29 > 0:01:33- You don't really come in here much, do you, Lils?- Not at all.- No.

0:01:33 > 0:01:34SHE LAUGHS

0:01:34 > 0:01:38They moved into this three-bedroom Victorian semidetached house

0:01:38 > 0:01:4316 years ago and it became both the family home and a blank canvas.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46Go on, Lil, how would you describe this house?

0:01:46 > 0:01:48In terms of style?

0:01:48 > 0:01:50Don't look so confused!

0:01:50 > 0:01:52It's colourful. Is that a style?

0:01:52 > 0:01:53It is, isn't it?

0:01:53 > 0:01:55Bohemian, maybe?

0:01:55 > 0:01:57That's true.

0:01:57 > 0:01:58It's the truth!

0:02:00 > 0:02:03This is the kitchen. It's definitely the heart of the home.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05It's where we spend most of the time.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08The Aga's the central point of everything in this home

0:02:08 > 0:02:10and a lot of people aren't familiar with them,

0:02:10 > 0:02:12but they stay hot throughout the year.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14I go through little phases of cooking

0:02:14 > 0:02:16and then it is a performance art.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18You are quite chaotic.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21- I wouldn't say you were very neat in how you work.- No.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23That's quite...normal for artists?

0:02:23 > 0:02:25Yes?

0:02:26 > 0:02:28As this is her home and workplace,

0:02:28 > 0:02:32Emma has poured her creativity into making every room

0:02:32 > 0:02:33a feast for the eyes.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36You're allowed the bedroom, your bedroom,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38I get the rest of the house to play with.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40That's generous of you!

0:02:40 > 0:02:45So, has 16-year-old Lili taken inspiration from her mother's style?

0:02:45 > 0:02:48This is my room. Very me.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50No, over to you.

0:02:50 > 0:02:54- I don't think there's a theme, as such, just...- Typical teenager.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56It is quite typical.

0:02:56 > 0:03:00So, what kind of bedroom will this creative mum have chosen for herself?

0:03:03 > 0:03:06This room is a big departure from the rest of the house,

0:03:06 > 0:03:09in that I deliberately wanted it to be calming,

0:03:09 > 0:03:14so I hope that our guests, if they find the colour of downstairs

0:03:14 > 0:03:19a bit too much, then they can come upstairs and gain some sanity.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24As open-minded, arty types,

0:03:24 > 0:03:27they have only one stipulation for their home swap.

0:03:27 > 0:03:31I think we both know what our worst nightmare would be. No internet!

0:03:31 > 0:03:36That it's. No internet. Oh, we want to know where we're going!

0:03:36 > 0:03:37Patience, patience!

0:03:37 > 0:03:40We'll reveal all shortly.

0:03:41 > 0:03:46Our next home swappers are Nigel and his Aussie wife, Pixie,

0:03:46 > 0:03:48who are currently based in Nottingham.

0:03:48 > 0:03:52Both of us have what's called itchy feet, so we're not really good

0:03:52 > 0:03:55at staying in one place for more than a few days.

0:03:55 > 0:04:00They've been married for 27 years and met while travelling the world.

0:04:00 > 0:04:02So where would these adventure seekers live?

0:04:07 > 0:04:12- Have you got it in gear?- Yes. - Did you put it in gear?- No.

0:04:12 > 0:04:15We have only had this boat now for ten days.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18And it's deceptive. From the outside, she's quite plain.

0:04:18 > 0:04:22But when you come inside, it's like a floating little luxury apartment.

0:04:23 > 0:04:26The galley, as you can see, is pretty modern.

0:04:26 > 0:04:31We've got granite bench tops and stainless steel appliances.

0:04:31 > 0:04:32- And dirty teacups. - And dirty teacups.

0:04:32 > 0:04:34Don't look at the dirty teacups.

0:04:36 > 0:04:38Pixie worked for an energy company

0:04:38 > 0:04:43and Nigel the Royal Navy, before retiring nearly 30 years ago.

0:04:43 > 0:04:48After holidaying on boats, they exchanged land for sea, permanently.

0:04:48 > 0:04:52The nice thing about it is that you have your home with you.

0:04:52 > 0:04:54You can stop where you like.

0:04:54 > 0:04:56If there's a barking dog in the neighbourhood,

0:04:56 > 0:04:58you can just move a bit.

0:04:58 > 0:05:04All plain sailing so far, but living off-grid does carry its limitations.

0:05:04 > 0:05:07We've got three big solar panels, extra large,

0:05:07 > 0:05:13going to batteries, and we're quite conservative with our use.

0:05:13 > 0:05:17Most boats like these have a 12-volt electricity supply,

0:05:17 > 0:05:20similar to what powers a car radio.

0:05:20 > 0:05:24Our experience with ladies from England is that every one of them

0:05:24 > 0:05:29travels with at least one hairdryer, and it's not an option.

0:05:29 > 0:05:32But we could suggest that maybe they visit my hairdresser,

0:05:32 > 0:05:35and they wouldn't have to worry about a hairdryer!

0:05:35 > 0:05:38On the move, and with limited supplies,

0:05:38 > 0:05:42every routine task requires special planning.

0:05:42 > 0:05:45This is our luxury bathroom.

0:05:45 > 0:05:48And it's the same as the kitchen. It's got granite bench tops

0:05:48 > 0:05:53and an electric toilet which takes a little bit of getting used to using.

0:05:53 > 0:05:56You press these buttons and things. And when it's full, it's full.

0:05:56 > 0:06:00It's not only the toilet that's not connected.

0:06:00 > 0:06:04Because of the limit on water, if we were having a shower, then we would

0:06:04 > 0:06:09wet ourselves, turn the water off, soap ourselves, and then rinse off.

0:06:09 > 0:06:11A lot of people would think this tiresome, but, to us,

0:06:11 > 0:06:15it's not, because the objective for us is travel.

0:06:15 > 0:06:17And what a way to travel.

0:06:17 > 0:06:2212 foot by 60 foot, this houseboat has plenty of space

0:06:22 > 0:06:26and a luxury bedroom which opens onto a patio area.

0:06:26 > 0:06:28As experienced travellers,

0:06:28 > 0:06:32Nigel and Pixie know what they'd like for a home swap.

0:06:33 > 0:06:36I think, most definitely, we would prefer to be on land.

0:06:36 > 0:06:38A change of scenery, to find

0:06:38 > 0:06:42- ourselves in the middle of mountains or a desert.- Ah!

0:06:42 > 0:06:45Well, this is Britain, not the Sahara, Pixie.

0:06:45 > 0:06:48Your destination will be revealed shortly.

0:06:50 > 0:06:51We're back in Wiltshire.

0:06:51 > 0:06:54I take wool everywhere.

0:06:54 > 0:06:57But I can't just have one little bit. And I know it looks a bit mental..

0:06:57 > 0:06:58You're right.

0:06:58 > 0:07:00As per usual,

0:07:00 > 0:07:05our home swappers have daringly left their destinations in our hands.

0:07:05 > 0:07:10Whenever we travel, we really like to take our own cups with us,

0:07:10 > 0:07:12even if we're staying at the Dorchester.

0:07:12 > 0:07:14We take our cups with us.

0:07:14 > 0:07:15You haven't stayed at the Dorchester!

0:07:15 > 0:07:18- No, but if I was going to, I'd still take my cups.- Yes!

0:07:18 > 0:07:23So, wool and china cups packed, let's tell them where they're heading.

0:07:23 > 0:07:28First up are Nigel and Pixie, and they are going to Wiltshire.

0:07:28 > 0:07:31- Wiltshire?- Sausages?

0:07:31 > 0:07:35It's actually destined to be really wet and rainy

0:07:35 > 0:07:36in the south-west on Monday.

0:07:36 > 0:07:39Perhaps they've got a really gorgeous home and a log fire.

0:07:39 > 0:07:43I'm looking for that indoor heated swimming pool!

0:07:43 > 0:07:45That's got to be the answer to rain.

0:07:46 > 0:07:50And for Emma and Lili, they're going to Nottingham.

0:07:50 > 0:07:53Nottingham? We're going to Nottingham.

0:07:53 > 0:07:56I've never been to Nottingham. Is it up or down? Or is it sideways?

0:07:56 > 0:07:58Where's Nottingham? Is there Wi-Fi?

0:08:01 > 0:08:03Oh, I think I know vaguely where it is.

0:08:03 > 0:08:05Oh, no, that's Northampton!

0:08:05 > 0:08:08Oh, no, where's Nottingham, please?

0:08:08 > 0:08:11Don't worry. We'll give you the postcode.

0:08:11 > 0:08:14Home swappers usually can't be there to greet the guests,

0:08:14 > 0:08:19- but each couple says "welcome" in their own thoughtful way.- Brilliant.

0:08:19 > 0:08:21Houses and boats prepared,

0:08:21 > 0:08:26it's time to hand over their keys and hit the road.

0:08:27 > 0:08:31Emma and Lili are heading 150 miles north-east

0:08:31 > 0:08:34to Nottinghamshire in the East Midlands.

0:08:34 > 0:08:40This diverse county is full of myths and legends about men in tights.

0:08:40 > 0:08:42Famously linked with Robin Hood,

0:08:42 > 0:08:46at the heart of Nottinghamshire is the enchanting Sherwood Forest,

0:08:46 > 0:08:49which has one of the highest concentrations of ancient trees

0:08:49 > 0:08:50in northern Europe.

0:08:52 > 0:08:57Rich in history and rural landscapes, alongside bustling cities

0:08:57 > 0:09:00and towns, there's much to explore in this wondrous county.

0:09:02 > 0:09:06The River Trent has shaped much of this landscape.

0:09:06 > 0:09:09It runs through Newark-on-Trent and the rural Trent Valley,

0:09:09 > 0:09:12making its way to Nottingham, where Emma and Lili

0:09:12 > 0:09:16are about to see their unique cottage on the river.

0:09:16 > 0:09:19This is so nice.

0:09:19 > 0:09:20Oh, my God.

0:09:20 > 0:09:21No way!

0:09:21 > 0:09:23Are we on here?

0:09:23 > 0:09:25Oh, my God, your dream come true.

0:09:25 > 0:09:28Oh, are we really on here?!

0:09:28 > 0:09:33- Are we on this boat?- She wants to live on a canal boat.- Oh, my God!

0:09:33 > 0:09:34Oh, my God!

0:09:37 > 0:09:41- You're crying? What's wrong with you?- I might actually cry!

0:09:41 > 0:09:45I have been talking about plan B always being "live on a boat".

0:09:45 > 0:09:49I'm intrigued. I've never been on a canal boat.

0:09:49 > 0:09:54This is living the dream. Hang on a minute, I've had a worrying moment.

0:09:54 > 0:09:57- Wi-Fi!- It'll be fine.

0:09:58 > 0:10:04Nigel and Pixie are travelling 150 miles south-west to

0:10:04 > 0:10:08the idyllic village of Box, situated on the south-east edge

0:10:08 > 0:10:10of the Cotswolds in Wiltshire.

0:10:11 > 0:10:14Wiltshire's chalky, rural terrain

0:10:14 > 0:10:17is especially known for its ancient sites

0:10:17 > 0:10:21including the iconic monument of Stonehenge,

0:10:21 > 0:10:23an extraordinary prehistoric legacy.

0:10:24 > 0:10:27Jam-packed with breathtaking scenery,

0:10:27 > 0:10:30almost half of the county is recognised as

0:10:30 > 0:10:33an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

0:10:33 > 0:10:39At its heart is Salisbury Plain, a vast, 300-square-mile stretch

0:10:39 > 0:10:43of wild grassland, perfect for long walks.

0:10:43 > 0:10:47In the steep-sided Bybrook Valley sits the village of Box,

0:10:47 > 0:10:52where Nigel and Pixie discover their rural retreat.

0:10:53 > 0:10:55Well, that's it.

0:10:55 > 0:10:58Look, it's full of fairy lights.

0:10:58 > 0:11:01And frilling. And all the things around the doors.

0:11:05 > 0:11:09I have a feeling the people who live in this house are artistic people.

0:11:09 > 0:11:12We might get some ideas for decorating our boat. What do you think?

0:11:12 > 0:11:14I'm not sure their decorations

0:11:14 > 0:11:16are going to be my style.

0:11:18 > 0:11:20In Nottinghamshire, Emma and Lili

0:11:20 > 0:11:23are diving on board their water cottage.

0:11:23 > 0:11:26(Oh, my God!)

0:11:26 > 0:11:27EMMA LAUGHS

0:11:27 > 0:11:30- Oh, I love this.- It's weird, because it's so NOT you.

0:11:30 > 0:11:34I know, it's the opposite of me, and I absolutely love it.

0:11:34 > 0:11:38Whoever lives here, they are classy, tasteful.

0:11:38 > 0:11:42It's got to be someone with money. I'm a bit worried about them.

0:11:42 > 0:11:45- Be fine.- But, you mustn't touch those. Look at all the buttons!

0:11:45 > 0:11:46Don't touch the buttons.

0:11:49 > 0:11:51Meanwhile, in Wiltshire,

0:11:51 > 0:11:54Nigel and Pixie are crossing the colourful threshold.

0:11:54 > 0:11:59What lies behind the green door? Wow?! Oh, my gosh!

0:12:00 > 0:12:02SHE LAUGHS

0:12:02 > 0:12:03Oooh!

0:12:03 > 0:12:05This is unusual.

0:12:05 > 0:12:09And they start at the hub of Emma's artistry.

0:12:09 > 0:12:12Oh, gosh! Ha-ha!

0:12:12 > 0:12:17This is colourful! It's like a lollipop house or something in here.

0:12:17 > 0:12:19It is so coloured.

0:12:19 > 0:12:24It's interesting but it's not what I would feel to be a homely room.

0:12:25 > 0:12:28Our swappers have left each other a manual...

0:12:28 > 0:12:31Go on, Lils, you can do this. Come on, Mrs Techno.

0:12:31 > 0:12:36..to help them become accustomed to each other's unique homes.

0:12:36 > 0:12:39- Home swappers' manuals. - Home swappers' manuals.

0:12:39 > 0:12:42The boat is just three weeks old.

0:12:43 > 0:12:46Do you know something? This is quite an honour, really,

0:12:46 > 0:12:49to be in someone's brand-new boat, isn't it, really?

0:12:49 > 0:12:51Let's not use anything!

0:12:53 > 0:12:54Deal.

0:12:54 > 0:12:58Manual in hand, Nigel and Pixie are quickly discovering

0:12:58 > 0:12:59the treasures onshore.

0:13:01 > 0:13:05This is the kitchen, the heart of the house.

0:13:05 > 0:13:07Well, it's nice and warm in here, isn't it?

0:13:07 > 0:13:10Mmm. That's why it's warm. The Aga is going.

0:13:10 > 0:13:14We are not familiar with this, with these...

0:13:14 > 0:13:16- Formal cooking. - ..things in the kitchen.

0:13:16 > 0:13:22Teapots. We love cups of tea. Look, one, two, three, four teapots.

0:13:22 > 0:13:24So we won't go short of a cup of tea.

0:13:25 > 0:13:30Meanwhile, Emma and Lili are on their own voyage of discovery.

0:13:30 > 0:13:32OK, the galley is the boat's kitchen.

0:13:32 > 0:13:34I don't think this has even been used.

0:13:34 > 0:13:40I don't think anything's happened on there. I'm actually going like that.

0:13:40 > 0:13:42"So far, the oven has not been used,

0:13:42 > 0:13:44"so we cannot tell you how it functions!

0:13:46 > 0:13:49"The 240-volt microwave is not connected

0:13:49 > 0:13:51"and does not operate on 12-volt."

0:13:51 > 0:13:53It's a bit like a camper van with the 12-volt thing.

0:13:53 > 0:13:56I think we're eating out tonight, darling.

0:13:56 > 0:14:02And next, the smallest room that carries the most instructions.

0:14:02 > 0:14:04It's nicer than ours.

0:14:04 > 0:14:06Oh, my good Lord.

0:14:06 > 0:14:09This is amazing!

0:14:09 > 0:14:12"There's a white switch just outside the shower door

0:14:12 > 0:14:16"on the panel above the WC." There.

0:14:16 > 0:14:19"Turn this on, down position, whilst you are showering

0:14:19 > 0:14:23"and turn off when finished running water.

0:14:23 > 0:14:25"This operates a pump which drains the water out of the shower.

0:14:25 > 0:14:28"Without it operating, the bathroom will flood."

0:14:28 > 0:14:30- Do you know...?- Scared!

0:14:33 > 0:14:35While Emma and Lili learn the ropes,

0:14:35 > 0:14:39Nigel and Pixie walk the plank, sorry, stairs!

0:14:39 > 0:14:41Do you think this is a child's room?

0:14:41 > 0:14:45Not by the black dress, I wouldn't have thought. It's very...

0:14:45 > 0:14:49Flirty child. And it's for someone who's got their own personality.

0:14:49 > 0:14:52Whoever, Mum or Auntie or Nana may have said,

0:14:52 > 0:14:55"I'm going to decorate this in Indian fashion,"

0:14:55 > 0:14:58and they said, "No, I'm going to do what I want to do in here."

0:14:58 > 0:14:59And they did.

0:14:59 > 0:15:02With their posters!

0:15:02 > 0:15:05Back on the boat, Emma and Lili are keen to see where

0:15:05 > 0:15:06they'll sleep tonight.

0:15:08 > 0:15:10Look at it, look at it!

0:15:10 > 0:15:12"A double bed with access on both sides

0:15:12 > 0:15:15"beside bedside cupboards for that delicious first cuppa

0:15:15 > 0:15:17"in the morning, delivered daily by the master and commander

0:15:17 > 0:15:23"in a fine bone china cup to she who lives below and must be obeyed!"

0:15:23 > 0:15:28- I like this person.- I love this. I love these people!

0:15:31 > 0:15:35Well, this is altogether different from the rest of the house

0:15:35 > 0:15:41- that we've been in so far. - This is so restful.- It is.

0:15:41 > 0:15:44I find it interesting that whoever sleeps in here

0:15:44 > 0:15:47hasn't brought all the decorations in here.

0:15:47 > 0:15:52When home swapping, the good way to help your guests feel at home

0:15:52 > 0:15:56is to provide them with clear storage space for their own essentials.

0:15:56 > 0:15:59So, these guys live on a boat, and they have provided us with more

0:15:59 > 0:16:03facilities, amenities and space than we have in a three-bedroomed house.

0:16:03 > 0:16:05Yeah, we gave two drawers.

0:16:07 > 0:16:10Oh, do you know, I'm feeling like such a failure?!

0:16:11 > 0:16:14Emma and Lili's voyage of discovery takes them,

0:16:14 > 0:16:17finally, to the hub of the boat.

0:16:17 > 0:16:21The hot water is heated by running the boat engine. Oh, my God.

0:16:21 > 0:16:24- The boat won't move, will it? - I don't know.- Can you imagine?

0:16:24 > 0:16:27We don't need to do it tonight, do we?

0:16:27 > 0:16:33We've got enough to be contented with! I just...I'm so happy.

0:16:33 > 0:16:35Deciding to sleep on it, our other home swappers in Wiltshire

0:16:35 > 0:16:39are also keen to settle in for the night.

0:16:42 > 0:16:45It's a beautiful day for a home swap.

0:16:45 > 0:16:47- Morning! - SHE LAUGHS

0:16:47 > 0:16:51And both our households are testing out their new facilities.

0:16:51 > 0:16:52Ah!

0:16:52 > 0:16:55I think this was specially purchased for us.

0:16:55 > 0:16:59And it's white death. Mm-hm!

0:16:59 > 0:17:04- Oh, look at that!- Well, it's nicely toasting. I suppose it is.

0:17:04 > 0:17:08I'm quite impressed with it, but really don't like the idea

0:17:08 > 0:17:12that we're putting all that energy into that thing 24 hours a day.

0:17:14 > 0:17:18Meanwhile, staying connected isn't a concern for Emma and Lili.

0:17:18 > 0:17:20Charged everything?

0:17:20 > 0:17:22Yes. Thank God.

0:17:24 > 0:17:26- I charged it and found the internet. - I know.

0:17:26 > 0:17:29I opened my iPad this morning - it was a kind of "love you"!

0:17:31 > 0:17:36Nigel and Pixie are wondering how the first-time sailors are coping

0:17:36 > 0:17:38with the quirks of living afloat.

0:17:38 > 0:17:42The operating of the toilet, oh-ho-ho!

0:17:42 > 0:17:46- Did they press the right buttons in the right order?- It's pretty simple.

0:17:46 > 0:17:49You think they went in, taking the instruction sheet with them?

0:17:49 > 0:17:51Toilets are good as well.

0:17:51 > 0:17:53Well, actually, to be fair, that has taken me a little...

0:17:53 > 0:17:55I've been pressing too many buttons.

0:17:55 > 0:17:58Yeah, you just press all of them and hope!

0:17:58 > 0:18:00- She doesn't get it.- I do now.

0:18:00 > 0:18:03- You don't.- It took me time.

0:18:04 > 0:18:07But what about that hot water?

0:18:07 > 0:18:10- Right, ready?- First, ignition.- OK.

0:18:10 > 0:18:12Yeah? Quick, quick, quick.

0:18:12 > 0:18:16Put the key to the start position and the engine should start.

0:18:16 > 0:18:18- Ooh!- The start position.

0:18:18 > 0:18:19ENGINE RUMBLES

0:18:19 > 0:18:21Hey!

0:18:21 > 0:18:23Well, I feel self-sufficient!

0:18:23 > 0:18:25Champion!

0:18:25 > 0:18:30- Ha-ha! High-five me, baby! We are showering tonight!- I don't think so.

0:18:32 > 0:18:35I like this. Are you ready? I like this. Whoo-hoo!

0:18:35 > 0:18:37Landlocked and adrift,

0:18:37 > 0:18:41both our sets of swappers are keen to explore their new surroundings.

0:18:45 > 0:18:51Britain's canals and rivers are home to more than 35,000 boats.

0:18:51 > 0:18:54Emma and Lili's houseboat is moored in Nottingham,

0:18:54 > 0:18:59where its popular 2.5-mile canal runs through the heart of the city.

0:18:59 > 0:19:01The canals are very busy.

0:19:01 > 0:19:03I walk my dog down here most days

0:19:03 > 0:19:06because it's got such a nice atmosphere. It's a good lifestyle.

0:19:06 > 0:19:08It's a nice place.

0:19:08 > 0:19:12Nicknamed the Queen City of the Midlands, Nottingham is

0:19:12 > 0:19:15famous for its rich history and heritage,

0:19:15 > 0:19:16providing a feast of sights,

0:19:16 > 0:19:21including Nottingham Castle and the Galleries of Justice.

0:19:21 > 0:19:25There's plenty to do. Offers everything for all sorts of people.

0:19:25 > 0:19:27It's a great place for sport.

0:19:27 > 0:19:30The whole town's full of superb parks to go into.

0:19:30 > 0:19:31It's got a lot to offer.

0:19:34 > 0:19:36In a city where old meets new,

0:19:36 > 0:19:40it doesn't take long for Emma and Lili to come across

0:19:40 > 0:19:42a unique place to rest their legs.

0:19:42 > 0:19:46Oh, Lili, Lili, Lili, Lili. Lili!

0:19:46 > 0:19:49Oh, babies! Ha-ha!

0:19:49 > 0:19:51Oh, we're going in here!

0:19:53 > 0:19:57Hi, guys, are you OK? Ready to come over to your table?

0:19:57 > 0:20:01This cafe acts as a re-homing and care facility for cats

0:20:01 > 0:20:04and kittens from a range of backgrounds.

0:20:04 > 0:20:06- So, this is your table, just here.- Thank you!

0:20:06 > 0:20:08All of the menus are just in here.

0:20:08 > 0:20:12Oh, my God! Hello! You're speaking but I'm not hearing anything!

0:20:12 > 0:20:15- Whose idea is this?- It's mine.- Is it?- Yeah.

0:20:15 > 0:20:18- It's absolutely genius.- Thank you.

0:20:18 > 0:20:21- Do you mind if I do this... - THEY LAUGH

0:20:21 > 0:20:25- This is my life being changed irrevocably.- There you go.

0:20:25 > 0:20:30Owner Kate Charles-Richards set it up three months ago and it's

0:20:30 > 0:20:35unique, as it's the only cat cafe in the UK with cats you can adopt.

0:20:36 > 0:20:39- Oh, look! - SHE LAUGHS

0:20:39 > 0:20:42Can I get you guys anything else at all?

0:20:42 > 0:20:47Yeah, three kittens, two tomcats and a big fluffy great cat!

0:20:47 > 0:20:49Thank you. And the adoption papers.

0:20:50 > 0:20:51CAT MEOWS

0:20:52 > 0:20:54Over in Wiltshire,

0:20:54 > 0:20:58Pixie and Nigel are exploring the quaint village of Box,

0:20:58 > 0:21:00a hidden historic gem within

0:21:00 > 0:21:04the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

0:21:04 > 0:21:06There's an awful lot of things to do around here, a lot of

0:21:06 > 0:21:11music, a lot of eating, lots of walking, lots of things to do round here.

0:21:11 > 0:21:16Much of the village is a conservation area known for its fine stone

0:21:16 > 0:21:19which was also used to build the beautiful Georgian buildings

0:21:19 > 0:21:21in nearby Bath.

0:21:21 > 0:21:25But its history extends back to Roman times.

0:21:25 > 0:21:30Today, Box is best known for its Brunel-designed railway tunnel,

0:21:30 > 0:21:32perfect for trainspotters.

0:21:32 > 0:21:37With just 3,500 inhabitants, its community is close-knit

0:21:37 > 0:21:39and welcoming.

0:21:39 > 0:21:40I work in a local pub.

0:21:40 > 0:21:44When people come in, I say, "Welcome to the centre of the universe!", because it's so lovely.

0:21:44 > 0:21:47And there's such a great community spirit here, and we don't want to leave.

0:21:47 > 0:21:49- I know that sounds a bit local. - SHE LAUGHS

0:21:49 > 0:21:51But we love it.

0:21:53 > 0:21:55Keen to mingle with the locals,

0:21:55 > 0:21:59Nigel and Pixie are heading to the one place they know they'll flock to.

0:21:59 > 0:22:01This is the Queens Head.

0:22:01 > 0:22:03It says "boules". Boules!

0:22:05 > 0:22:09Here, regular Chris Garrett is only too keen to invite them

0:22:09 > 0:22:13to join a popular pastime in Box, French boules.

0:22:16 > 0:22:18You can see the basic idea is very simple,

0:22:18 > 0:22:22to get your ball closer to the jack than the other team.

0:22:22 > 0:22:24- Yeah, it looks pretty simple, doesn't it?- It does.

0:22:24 > 0:22:28THEY LAUGH

0:22:29 > 0:22:33Local French hospitality workers are said to have introduced

0:22:33 > 0:22:35the game to this area many years ago.

0:22:35 > 0:22:38And it's taken this small village by storm,

0:22:38 > 0:22:41with around 100 committed players.

0:22:41 > 0:22:44Nigel's eager to get involved.

0:22:46 > 0:22:48And now it's Pixie's turn.

0:22:48 > 0:22:50Oh, a beauty.

0:22:50 > 0:22:51Ooh la-la! Pixie's a natural.

0:22:51 > 0:22:54- That's the perfect shot. - What a player.

0:22:54 > 0:22:57I think I'll come down here and join the club.

0:23:00 > 0:23:03Oh, this is bordering on brilliance.

0:23:03 > 0:23:07So, Pixie, you scored two points for that end. Nigel scores nothing.

0:23:07 > 0:23:09- Nothing.- Only one player will score.

0:23:09 > 0:23:12- I'm sorry. - SHE LAUGHS

0:23:12 > 0:23:13No!

0:23:13 > 0:23:16Poor Nigel. You'd better stick with boats.

0:23:19 > 0:23:22Now, to add a little spice to proceedings,

0:23:22 > 0:23:25our home swappers are rating each other's area.

0:23:25 > 0:23:30So has this morning in Nottingham purred its way to Emma and Lili's hearts?

0:23:31 > 0:23:34- Well, we've been along the canal, haven't we?- We have.

0:23:34 > 0:23:38- And we've seen the cafe with the cats.- Best bit.

0:23:38 > 0:23:40It was lovely, wasn't it?

0:23:40 > 0:23:42The city centre is beautiful.

0:23:42 > 0:23:46So, based on what we've seen, I think we'd give the area a seven?

0:23:46 > 0:23:48- Yeah...- A seven.

0:23:48 > 0:23:52Nigel and Pixie have spent the morning exploring Box.

0:23:52 > 0:23:54So what do they make of the village?

0:23:54 > 0:23:57Well, I really do like this area.

0:23:57 > 0:24:03For me, it's quintessential England and the houses are just excellent.

0:24:03 > 0:24:05I'd have to agree wholeheartedly with Nigel.

0:24:05 > 0:24:09But there is that busy road running through the main street.

0:24:09 > 0:24:12I think we'd be really happy to score it an eight.

0:24:12 > 0:24:14Yeah, I agree, an eight.

0:24:15 > 0:24:21So that's only one-point difference so far, with Box taking the lead.

0:24:21 > 0:24:23To add some sparkle,

0:24:23 > 0:24:27both sets of guests have been given an afternoon activity to try.

0:24:27 > 0:24:32Having enjoyed life onshore in Nottingham, what will Emma and Lili

0:24:32 > 0:24:33be doing next?

0:24:33 > 0:24:36"We hope this afternoon will float your boat..."

0:24:36 > 0:24:38Pun intended. I like it.

0:24:38 > 0:24:41"..as you'll be learning to steer a narrow boat through the canal locks."

0:24:41 > 0:24:42EMMA LAUGHS

0:24:42 > 0:24:45- Is it theirs? Because... - No, it's not theirs, it won't be theirs.

0:24:45 > 0:24:48Fantastic, let's go and steer a narrow boat!

0:24:48 > 0:24:49Let's crash a narrow boat.

0:24:51 > 0:24:56And what's in store for Nigel and Pixie in Wiltshire?

0:24:56 > 0:24:59- "Today, you'll 'knead'..." - SHE LAUGHS

0:24:59 > 0:25:02- Can you see that?- No.- K-N-E-A-D.

0:25:02 > 0:25:05"..to roll up your sleeves, as you'll be learning to make

0:25:05 > 0:25:09"one of Wiltshire's most traditional tea breads, the lardy cake."

0:25:09 > 0:25:11- Oh, right.- What's a lardy cake?

0:25:11 > 0:25:14It's, um... It's sort of like a Danish,

0:25:14 > 0:25:17but it's a larger affair.

0:25:19 > 0:25:23'Just 20 minutes north of Box, Pixie and Nigel are joining local cook

0:25:23 > 0:25:28'Karen Cooper to learn how to make Wiltshire's historic treat.'

0:25:28 > 0:25:31- Lardy Dah!- Lardy Dah! - THEY LAUGH

0:25:31 > 0:25:33Lardy Dah.

0:25:33 > 0:25:36Beginning with a basic white bread dough,

0:25:36 > 0:25:39making the cake takes several lengthy steps.

0:25:39 > 0:25:41Go on, Nigel, show me your technique.

0:25:41 > 0:25:44Yeah, show us your technique, Nigel.

0:25:44 > 0:25:47So, when you've kneaded that for about ten minutes...

0:25:47 > 0:25:49- LAUGHTER - Ten minutes?

0:25:49 > 0:25:52We're going to put it in a warm place

0:25:52 > 0:25:55and leave it to rise for about an hour.

0:25:57 > 0:25:59Being a major pig farming region,

0:25:59 > 0:26:04these cakes became famous as an unexpected use of excess lard.

0:26:04 > 0:26:08It's like putting cream on a baby's bottom or something.

0:26:08 > 0:26:12- That's right!- Isn't it pretty? Look at the yellows.

0:26:12 > 0:26:15- Do I put my buttery hands in here? - Yes! Yes, just sprinkle it all around.

0:26:15 > 0:26:19- It's all going to end up in there anyway.- It's all going to go in!

0:26:19 > 0:26:22Finally, currants, spices and sugar

0:26:22 > 0:26:27are added in layers for extra stickiness.

0:26:27 > 0:26:28That's it, yes.

0:26:28 > 0:26:30It's probably very nice for your skin, isn't it?

0:26:30 > 0:26:34- Just rub it in.- It's not bad, yeah. - When do I get to spread it out?

0:26:34 > 0:26:37- It's stuck all over you.- Oh, well. - PIXIE LAUGHS

0:26:37 > 0:26:39No, don't lick your fingers!

0:26:40 > 0:26:43Done and dusted, Nigel and Pixie

0:26:43 > 0:26:46learn that all good things come to those who wait.

0:26:46 > 0:26:49All right, so shall we go and have some tea while we're waiting?

0:26:49 > 0:26:51- What a delightful idea.- Yes.

0:26:52 > 0:26:56A short walk down Nottingham's canal, Emma and Lili

0:26:56 > 0:27:01are meeting skipper Deborah Porter for a hands-on waterways experience.

0:27:01 > 0:27:03OK, can you undo it?

0:27:03 > 0:27:04With expert guidance,

0:27:04 > 0:27:09eager captain Emma grabs the chance to steer a narrow boat first.

0:27:09 > 0:27:12- So, now it's going that way. - Oh, look, I'm...

0:27:12 > 0:27:15- Must stop myself.- Control yourself. - Thank you.

0:27:15 > 0:27:16Control.

0:27:16 > 0:27:19If you look just to the side where the throttle is, there,

0:27:19 > 0:27:22- there's a big black button there, look.- Ooh, is that a hooter?- Yeah.

0:27:22 > 0:27:24GENTLE HOOTING EMMA LAUGHS

0:27:24 > 0:27:26- Whoo!- Move forward.

0:27:29 > 0:27:32The waterways aren't all plain sailing.

0:27:32 > 0:27:35This canal is a bypass for a partially impassible

0:27:35 > 0:27:37stretch of the River Trent.

0:27:37 > 0:27:40But some parts of it still require careful navigation.

0:27:41 > 0:27:43Going round a corner now.

0:27:43 > 0:27:45I'd put a bit of power on... Down.

0:27:45 > 0:27:46Go on.

0:27:48 > 0:27:52- We should ride over, ride over. - Whoo!

0:27:52 > 0:27:56Probably doing about 3mph. It's the most fun you can have.

0:27:56 > 0:27:58Oh, now we're going too far.

0:27:58 > 0:28:01We're going to crash! We're going to crash! We're going to crash!

0:28:01 > 0:28:04- Who's steering?- It's your boat! - THEY LAUGH

0:28:06 > 0:28:11As they approach Nottingham's oldest canal bridge, it becomes a tighter squeeze.

0:28:12 > 0:28:15If you do it too quick, you see, the back end's going to go over

0:28:15 > 0:28:18- and hit there.- I see what you mean.

0:28:18 > 0:28:20So you have to... You're all right, you're all right.

0:28:20 > 0:28:23- I don't want to do that...- You're not going to.- Oh, my God! We are!

0:28:23 > 0:28:24You're not!

0:28:24 > 0:28:27Phew! That was close.

0:28:27 > 0:28:30- Don't leave!- Oh, my God, I'm going to crash it.

0:28:30 > 0:28:35While Emma and Lili try not to capsize, back in Wiltshire,

0:28:35 > 0:28:38Nigel and Pixie are waiting for the fruits of their labour.

0:28:38 > 0:28:40Oh, look at that. Ah!

0:28:40 > 0:28:44- Mmm!- There you are, you can see all the layers in there,

0:28:44 > 0:28:45- where it's folded.- Folded...

0:28:45 > 0:28:49That's the whole reason that the lard has to be kept in the folds,

0:28:49 > 0:28:51so that it goes through the whole of the cake.

0:28:51 > 0:28:55- There we go.- Thank you. - OK.

0:28:55 > 0:28:57Mmm. That's really lovely.

0:28:57 > 0:28:59That's really quite a mouthful of lardy cake.

0:28:59 > 0:29:01THEY LAUGH

0:29:01 > 0:29:03What is "la-di-da" all about?

0:29:03 > 0:29:08A little bit of a comment on somebody being rather elegant

0:29:08 > 0:29:10- or sophisticated...- Yes.- You'd say "la-di-da".

0:29:10 > 0:29:13So, what's the association with the lardy cake?

0:29:13 > 0:29:16- Well, the Queen having them at Buckingham Palace!- Oh, right.

0:29:16 > 0:29:19- You couldn't get any more...- It's a really "la-di-da" thing to do!

0:29:19 > 0:29:22- Yes, exactly!- You can't get any more posher or more "la-di-da" than that.

0:29:22 > 0:29:25I mean, the royal garden parties, they are terribly "la-di-da".

0:29:25 > 0:29:28- "La-di-da!"- La-di-da!

0:29:30 > 0:29:32Back afloat Nottingham's canal,

0:29:32 > 0:29:36Lili is taking over the reins from Mum to navigate the lock.

0:29:36 > 0:29:39- Hey, Lils. Has this put you off it forever?- Yeah.

0:29:39 > 0:29:41EMMA LAUGHS

0:29:41 > 0:29:44Oh, yeah, Lil lives the dream!

0:29:48 > 0:29:53But a bit of drizzle isn't enough to rain on Emma's parade.

0:29:53 > 0:29:56- It's a bit cold and wet now, isn't it?- A bit, yeah.- Yeah.

0:29:56 > 0:30:00I'm still sitting with the idea of doing this one day.

0:30:04 > 0:30:09After drying off and pushing away crumbs, our swappers are keen

0:30:09 > 0:30:13to compare how affordable their home swap lifestyles are.

0:30:13 > 0:30:18£40,000 gets you...a really decent boat.

0:30:18 > 0:30:22But 60,000 is the most expensive. It seems quite reasonable to me.

0:30:22 > 0:30:25If we were on a boat together and you had your own space

0:30:25 > 0:30:28- like you do in the house and you have your own room...- No, seriously, no.- Just another "if"!

0:30:28 > 0:30:33- No.- Spaces are really tight!- Yeah.

0:30:33 > 0:30:35Back off.

0:30:35 > 0:30:39To buy, narrow boats can start from as little as £12,500

0:30:39 > 0:30:43or around £70,000 for a wide-beam boat.

0:30:43 > 0:30:46But if you'd prefer to be landlubbers,

0:30:46 > 0:30:51a typical terrace in Nottinghamshire goes for around £75,000.

0:30:51 > 0:30:56You can buy a semi for over 100,000, but for a detached,

0:30:56 > 0:30:57you're looking at nearly double,

0:30:57 > 0:30:59at around £200,000.

0:31:00 > 0:31:04Here in Wiltshire, the average house price is higher.

0:31:04 > 0:31:05Here's a pretty one.

0:31:05 > 0:31:08I like the one that looks more like a cottage than that modern house.

0:31:08 > 0:31:10Three of our boats would fit in there.

0:31:10 > 0:31:12- I'll have this one.- Oh, yeah.

0:31:12 > 0:31:15- Yeah, it's got my name written all over it.- Ten wide-beam boats!

0:31:15 > 0:31:18- Ten wide-beam boats!- Ten wide-beam boats!

0:31:18 > 0:31:22Exactly. Oh, well. I don't think real estate is for us.

0:31:22 > 0:31:24We'll just have to stick to our floating cottage.

0:31:24 > 0:31:30In Wiltshire, a classic terrace is around £155,000.

0:31:30 > 0:31:33A semi goes for 185,000,

0:31:33 > 0:31:38and for detached, it's around £325,000.

0:31:42 > 0:31:47After a fun-packed day, our swappers are keen to relax.

0:31:47 > 0:31:50Our hosts want to ensure every part of their stay is perfect,

0:31:50 > 0:31:54so each has suggested a favourite restaurant to visit.

0:31:54 > 0:31:59Emma and Lili have taken a stroll to a South Indian restaurant.

0:31:59 > 0:32:01Here we are!

0:32:01 > 0:32:05Close to the canal on vibrant Broad Street,

0:32:05 > 0:32:08this restaurant has a tasty menu containing dishes

0:32:08 > 0:32:12traditional to the backwaters of Kerala in southern India.

0:32:13 > 0:32:16If I choose the fish curry, what are you having?

0:32:16 > 0:32:18The...dumplings.

0:32:18 > 0:32:20I'm looking forward to it, I really am!

0:32:20 > 0:32:23- I will make sure you'll enjoy it. - Thank you!

0:32:23 > 0:32:24- Thank you.- Thank you.

0:32:24 > 0:32:26So, tell me about yourself.

0:32:26 > 0:32:28Do you come here often?

0:32:32 > 0:32:36Oh, this is a good choice. Oh, I love them. I love their food.

0:32:36 > 0:32:38I love their boat.

0:32:38 > 0:32:41This is divine.

0:32:41 > 0:32:44- Fish curry.- Amazing.

0:32:44 > 0:32:45Rice dumplings and chicken.

0:32:45 > 0:32:46Thank you.

0:32:49 > 0:32:53- Ooh!- "Ooh!"- Mmm. Mmm-mmm.

0:32:54 > 0:32:59Meanwhile, Nigel and Pixie are visiting an historic pub

0:32:59 > 0:33:01just a mile down the road from their house,

0:33:01 > 0:33:04situated next to an ancient quarry.

0:33:04 > 0:33:07Oh, look. That's really quite lovely, isn't it?

0:33:07 > 0:33:09Let's go in, I'm starving.

0:33:09 > 0:33:11It looks like a good place.

0:33:11 > 0:33:16This family-run pub specialises in traditional and modern British fare,

0:33:16 > 0:33:19prepared using quality local produce.

0:33:19 > 0:33:22Oh, venison. Oh, doesn't that look...? What beautiful presentation.

0:33:22 > 0:33:27- This is five-star dining in here. - Oh, lovely.

0:33:27 > 0:33:28- Thank you.- Thank you very much.

0:33:33 > 0:33:38- It's really nice.- This venison...is delicious.

0:33:40 > 0:33:45With their tummies full, our swappers focus their minds on scoring again.

0:33:45 > 0:33:49We've had a fabulous day out. The canal trip was amazing.

0:33:49 > 0:33:50Despite the rain.

0:33:50 > 0:33:52I know, the rain was a bit of a disappointment, but...

0:33:52 > 0:33:54What can you do?

0:33:54 > 0:33:58South Indian restaurant. The best food I've had in years,

0:33:58 > 0:34:01- without a doubt. I'd say an eight. - Yeah.- Yeah?- Yeah.

0:34:01 > 0:34:05A good, solid eight.

0:34:05 > 0:34:08And what about their swappers in Wiltshire?

0:34:08 > 0:34:13The lardy-cake making and the super result was just fantastic.

0:34:13 > 0:34:16And dinner was unbelievably delicious,

0:34:16 > 0:34:19considering we were in this funny little English pub.

0:34:19 > 0:34:22- Today's day out was... - BOTH: A nine!

0:34:22 > 0:34:24Solid scores all round.

0:34:24 > 0:34:27But Wiltshire is leading by just two points.

0:34:27 > 0:34:28It's all still to play for.

0:34:32 > 0:34:36It's the last day of our home swappers' stays.

0:34:36 > 0:34:39And in Nottingham, Emma and Lili are enjoying

0:34:39 > 0:34:43their final moments aboard the floating cottage.

0:34:43 > 0:34:45- The front bit, the pointy bit, and the back bit.- Yeah...

0:34:45 > 0:34:49I still don't know which is which, in terms of what it's called.

0:34:49 > 0:34:50Bit rubbish!

0:34:52 > 0:34:55Meanwhile, in Box, Pixie's wondering if their guests

0:34:55 > 0:34:58have enjoyed being "offshore".

0:34:58 > 0:35:00The time has gone really quickly.

0:35:00 > 0:35:04I'm dying to know what the people thought of our boat.

0:35:04 > 0:35:07It's such a change from here.

0:35:08 > 0:35:11So their adventure is over.

0:35:11 > 0:35:13A single-storey boat

0:35:13 > 0:35:14is easier for this.

0:35:14 > 0:35:16And our couples are going to check

0:35:16 > 0:35:19their dwellings are still in one piece.

0:35:19 > 0:35:22This has been a great experience,

0:35:22 > 0:35:24but there's no place like home.

0:35:24 > 0:35:28You can arrange a home swap for a quick weekend getaway,

0:35:28 > 0:35:30a two-week break or even longer.

0:35:30 > 0:35:35By choosing to exchange, you and your guests can both save money.

0:35:35 > 0:35:41A good-quality B&B costs around £200 for two nights in Box in Wiltshire

0:35:41 > 0:35:44and in Nottingham around £150.

0:35:46 > 0:35:49Our swappers are back on familiar territory.

0:35:49 > 0:35:51We are home!

0:35:51 > 0:35:56- Oh, look!- Home, sweet home! Oh, hello, Lilly Pilly.

0:35:56 > 0:35:57God, it's tidy!

0:35:57 > 0:36:01And there's nothing red or pink to be seen anywhere.

0:36:01 > 0:36:05And finally, they can find out who their guests are

0:36:05 > 0:36:08and what they made of their home.

0:36:08 > 0:36:10Not sure if I want to...

0:36:10 > 0:36:12hear what they have to say!

0:36:12 > 0:36:14- It'll be fine.- A bit nervous.

0:36:14 > 0:36:17Hello, my name is Pixie and I'm 67 years of age

0:36:17 > 0:36:19and this is my husband.

0:36:19 > 0:36:22Nigel, and I'm 69 years of age.

0:36:22 > 0:36:24I used to work in the energy industry,

0:36:24 > 0:36:28but now I'm retired and I spend my life boating.

0:36:28 > 0:36:31And I was in the Royal Navy. I'm also retired

0:36:31 > 0:36:34and spend my life boating and sailing.

0:36:34 > 0:36:37I do love that they've been boating for years.

0:36:37 > 0:36:38- I love that.- Yeah, that's cool.

0:36:38 > 0:36:40We've enjoyed staying in your house

0:36:40 > 0:36:44and we hope that you also had a good time in our floating cottage

0:36:44 > 0:36:48and that perhaps it wasn't too uncolourful for you.

0:36:50 > 0:36:51It was.

0:36:51 > 0:36:53Oh, interesting.

0:36:53 > 0:36:57I have a feeling the people who live in this house are artistic people.

0:36:57 > 0:36:59We might get some ideas for decorating our boat.

0:36:59 > 0:37:01He looks concerned!

0:37:01 > 0:37:04Not sure their decoration's going to be my style.

0:37:04 > 0:37:07Oh, God, they couldn't be more right!

0:37:07 > 0:37:08The look on his face!

0:37:08 > 0:37:11It's interesting, but it's not...

0:37:11 > 0:37:14what I would feel to be a homely room.

0:37:14 > 0:37:17I like how honest he is. He's like, "Pff, don't like it,"

0:37:17 > 0:37:18and he'll tell you.

0:37:18 > 0:37:21It's someone who's got their own personality.

0:37:21 > 0:37:24Whoever, Mum or Auntie or Nana or someone, may have said,

0:37:24 > 0:37:26"I'm going to decorate this in Indian fashion,"

0:37:26 > 0:37:29they said, "No, I'm going to do what I want to do in here."

0:37:29 > 0:37:32You've got your own personality, Lils. Who'd have thought it?

0:37:32 > 0:37:34Who are you, my auntie?

0:37:34 > 0:37:35Nana, I'm your nana.

0:37:37 > 0:37:41Well, this is altogether different from the rest of the house

0:37:41 > 0:37:42that we've been in so far.

0:37:42 > 0:37:45This is so restful.

0:37:45 > 0:37:48Good, I'm pleased he may feel that he has an escape.

0:37:48 > 0:37:50He'll just stay in there!

0:37:51 > 0:37:55Now, in Nottingham, it's the moment of truth for Nigel and Pixie.

0:37:55 > 0:37:57OK.

0:37:58 > 0:38:02Hello, I'm Emma. I'm 46 and this is my daughter Lili.

0:38:02 > 0:38:0716, and I'm a student and I just finished my GCSEs.

0:38:07 > 0:38:10I am a mosaic artist and as you may have seen from the house,

0:38:10 > 0:38:12I work a lot with yarn as well.

0:38:12 > 0:38:16I teach it to people that come to my studio to learn.

0:38:16 > 0:38:18Actually, we know this.

0:38:18 > 0:38:20We've loved staying on your boat.

0:38:20 > 0:38:22It's been a fantastic experience and thank you so much.

0:38:22 > 0:38:26It's brand-new, so that's a really generous heart you have

0:38:26 > 0:38:29to let us do this and I hope you've enjoyed our house.

0:38:29 > 0:38:33It's so nice of them to thank us for our generosity of heart.

0:38:33 > 0:38:35- That was really a nice thing to say. - Very sweet.

0:38:35 > 0:38:36- Yep.- Nice people.

0:38:36 > 0:38:38Are we on here?!

0:38:38 > 0:38:39EMMA GASPS

0:38:40 > 0:38:43- GASPING:- Are we really on here?

0:38:43 > 0:38:45Are we on this boat?!

0:38:45 > 0:38:47Oh, my God, Lili!

0:38:48 > 0:38:50LILI: Are you crying? What is wrong with you?

0:38:50 > 0:38:53I think it demonstrates a lack of self-control

0:38:53 > 0:38:54and, um...

0:38:54 > 0:38:59and actually, it is quite gratifying.

0:38:59 > 0:39:00EMMA CHORTLES EXCITEDLY

0:39:00 > 0:39:03- Oh, I love this! - LILI: Cos it's so not you?

0:39:03 > 0:39:07I know, it's the opposite of me and I absolutely love it.

0:39:07 > 0:39:09The daughter hit the nail right on the head -

0:39:09 > 0:39:11"The opposite of you, Mum."

0:39:11 > 0:39:14The boat is just three weeks old!

0:39:15 > 0:39:16Let's not use anything.

0:39:18 > 0:39:20I think they just sit on the floor!

0:39:21 > 0:39:24"This operates a pump which drains the water out of the shower.

0:39:24 > 0:39:27"Without it operating, the bathroom will flood."

0:39:27 > 0:39:29- Do you know...?- I'm scared!

0:39:30 > 0:39:32They're not going to have a wash!

0:39:32 > 0:39:36"The hot water is heated by running the boat engine." Oh, my God!

0:39:37 > 0:39:40- Look at the look on her face! - The boat won't move, will it?

0:39:40 > 0:39:42- I don't know.- Can you imagine?

0:39:45 > 0:39:48Oh, the look on her face was priceless!

0:39:50 > 0:39:54So having watched their guests having a nose around their homes,

0:39:54 > 0:39:58they're waiting to see which swap will be victorious.

0:39:58 > 0:40:02First up, Emma and Lili's verdict on the floating cottage in Nottingham.

0:40:02 > 0:40:05Well, we've been along the canal, haven't we?

0:40:05 > 0:40:09- We have.- And we've seen the cafe with the cats.

0:40:09 > 0:40:12- The best bit. - It was lovely, wasn't it?

0:40:12 > 0:40:14Based on what we've seen,

0:40:14 > 0:40:16I think we'd give the area a seven?

0:40:16 > 0:40:19- Yeah.- A seven. - A score of seven was pretty fair.

0:40:19 > 0:40:21On the other hand, without the cat cafe,

0:40:21 > 0:40:24the score could possibly just have been five.

0:40:25 > 0:40:27And what did they score the day out?

0:40:28 > 0:40:31- The canal strip was amazing. - LILI: What about the rain?

0:40:31 > 0:40:33I know, the rain was a bit of a disappointment,

0:40:33 > 0:40:34- but...- What can you do?

0:40:34 > 0:40:36Oh, no!

0:40:36 > 0:40:38South Indian restaurant.

0:40:38 > 0:40:41The best food I've had in years without a doubt.

0:40:41 > 0:40:43I'd say a good, solid eight.

0:40:45 > 0:40:47What a shame about the weather. Oh!

0:40:47 > 0:40:50But they were still quite enthusiastic about doing it.

0:40:50 > 0:40:54- Yeah, and even Lili said that she loved it.- Yes.

0:40:54 > 0:40:57And the ultimate score for their home on the water?

0:40:57 > 0:41:00I think if this boat was more lived in, for us,

0:41:00 > 0:41:02then we would have felt slightly more relaxed,

0:41:02 > 0:41:07so for that reason, we're giving our experience of your boat

0:41:07 > 0:41:12- a seven.- In a way, I'm sad that that's kind of affected

0:41:12 > 0:41:14the pleasure of what they did.

0:41:14 > 0:41:17I can see where the seven's coming from.

0:41:17 > 0:41:19Pixie and Nigel have scored

0:41:19 > 0:41:21a total of 22 out of 30.

0:41:21 > 0:41:24So how will Emma and Lili fare with their guests' verdicts

0:41:24 > 0:41:27on their colourful home in Wiltshire?

0:41:27 > 0:41:33For me, it's quintessential England and the houses are just excellent.

0:41:33 > 0:41:36I'd have to agree wholeheartedly with Nigel,

0:41:36 > 0:41:40but there is that busy road running through the main street.

0:41:40 > 0:41:43I think we'd be really happy to score it an eight.

0:41:43 > 0:41:44Oh, well done, Box!

0:41:44 > 0:41:47Well done, Box!

0:41:47 > 0:41:49I love you!

0:41:49 > 0:41:51And now, the day out.

0:41:51 > 0:41:55The lardy cake making and the super result

0:41:55 > 0:41:56was just fantastic.

0:41:56 > 0:41:58And dinner was unbelievably delicious

0:41:58 > 0:42:01considering we were in only a little English pub.

0:42:01 > 0:42:03Today's day out was...

0:42:03 > 0:42:05BOTH: ..a nine!

0:42:05 > 0:42:07Wow, a nine!

0:42:08 > 0:42:13Emma and Lili have received a score of 17 for their area and day out,

0:42:13 > 0:42:17so it all comes down to the ultimate scores given to their home.

0:42:17 > 0:42:21The house was, erm, a bit quirky for us

0:42:21 > 0:42:22and not really our taste,

0:42:22 > 0:42:25but we have enjoyed our stay here.

0:42:25 > 0:42:28And the location was excellent,

0:42:28 > 0:42:30so we've given the house a score of six.

0:42:30 > 0:42:34If they were being truthful, it would be a one,

0:42:34 > 0:42:39- purely for shelter and electricity. - The garden, they don't have a garden.

0:42:39 > 0:42:43- They have a boat. - They've got the whole world!

0:42:43 > 0:42:45That's a total of 23 out of 30

0:42:45 > 0:42:47for Box in Wiltshire,

0:42:47 > 0:42:49so by a whisker,

0:42:49 > 0:42:50they are today's

0:42:50 > 0:42:52Home Away From Home winner.

0:42:52 > 0:42:53Do you know what, though?

0:42:53 > 0:42:56I think Box came up trumps here.

0:42:56 > 0:42:57Yeah, that's true.

0:42:57 > 0:43:01Well done, Box. Well done.

0:43:01 > 0:43:04Has this experience made them want to do it again?

0:43:04 > 0:43:06I am sure we'll home swap again,

0:43:06 > 0:43:08- without a doubt.- I concur.

0:43:08 > 0:43:12You concur? Oh, right, we are in agreement.

0:43:12 > 0:43:15- I would rather a hotel, I think. - Would you?- Yeah.

0:43:15 > 0:43:17I would definitely house swap again. I've really enjoyed it.

0:43:17 > 0:43:20I like being in someone else's space.

0:43:20 > 0:43:23# I see your true colours

0:43:23 > 0:43:25# And that's why I love you
