:00:00. > :00:00.themselves. So when Mars is leading, others are likely to follow.

:00:00. > :00:09.Now on BBC News, it's time for the Travel Show.

:00:10. > :00:21.This week I am behind the wheel in Budapest. We are at the business end

:00:22. > :00:24.of a South African red. And Simon uncovers his inbox solving your

:00:25. > :01:10.travel problems. The Hungary in capital, Budapest.

:01:11. > :01:23.You might know all about the spies here and you may be familiar with

:01:24. > :01:29.the pubs and lively nightlife. But about 12 miles outside of the Centre

:01:30. > :01:33.the city's racetrack is about to have its own moment in the

:01:34. > :01:37.spotlight. In March the 30th anniversary of the track and these

:01:38. > :01:47.days to here and get in touch with their inner need for speed. My

:01:48. > :01:55.passenger is a touring car race and a veteran of this course. For the

:01:56. > :02:00.beginning don't drive too fast. You need to find your limit because it

:02:01. > :02:09.is so easy to make a mistake and because places like here with no

:02:10. > :02:11.run-off, if someone is not confident than they will crash the car for

:02:12. > :02:21.sure. This track has a reputation for

:02:22. > :02:26.being a tricky one. There aren't that many long straights and

:02:27. > :02:32.overtaking is almost impossible. Not to mention all the twists and turns

:02:33. > :02:37.that can catch drivers out. I can't imagine the atmosphere from the

:02:38. > :02:42.road. You have moments in life that you feel it is something special and

:02:43. > :02:47.every time I make a race at home with people sitting on the

:02:48. > :03:03.grandstands and cheering for me it is just... But this is more than

:03:04. > :03:09.just a destination for motoring enthusiast. Exactly 30 years ago

:03:10. > :03:14.this place held the very first Grand Prix behind the Iron Curtain. A huge

:03:15. > :03:21.moment not just the Hungary but the motorsport fans from all around the

:03:22. > :03:26.Eastern Bloc. Inside one of central Budapest's busy sports bars I meet

:03:27. > :04:11.this man who commentated on that first race for Hungary on state

:04:12. > :04:18.it was new and significant and only three years later Hungary became one

:04:19. > :04:27.of the first countries to remove the Communist from power. The transition

:04:28. > :04:33.was peaceful but look closely there are still reminders of the old

:04:34. > :04:38.regime. One of the best way to get a sense of the history is to see the

:04:39. > :04:50.city from one of these. It is a classic Eastern Bloc are. Hello.

:04:51. > :04:58.High. It is very tiny. Are you ready to go? Definitely, let us go.

:04:59. > :05:07.These little pocket rockets were made in East Germany and exported

:05:08. > :05:11.right across Communist Europe. They are famous for being unreliable and

:05:12. > :05:17.flimsy but these days and many people regard them fondly. They were

:05:18. > :05:25.important for the families because there were waiting lists for it and

:05:26. > :05:29.it could take five -10 years to get one of these car. So if you ordered

:05:30. > :05:38.a new one you could be waiting up to ten years? Yes. If you were lucky it

:05:39. > :05:44.was only two. Production of the vehicle stopped in 1991 but there is

:05:45. > :05:50.still a common sight around Budapest and become a favourite option for

:05:51. > :05:57.tourist wanting to see the city. It is something really funny and people

:05:58. > :06:07.really enjoy riding around and people say that it is a joyride.

:06:08. > :06:12.They certainly have a lot of character. But with only 26

:06:13. > :06:20.horsepower under the bonnet it is hardly the motoring that sets the

:06:21. > :06:24.pulse racing. In the control tower it will be a different story when

:06:25. > :06:29.the F1 circus comes to town. So during the big Formula 1 race, what

:06:30. > :06:36.is the atmosphere? There's a lot of people in the grandstands, a lot of

:06:37. > :06:42.spectators. In 2013 we had more than 240,000 people combined in the three

:06:43. > :06:48.days. That is a lot of people. Last year it it was more than 160,000

:06:49. > :06:53.which are still got. The atmosphere is them honking the horns, they are

:06:54. > :07:01.cheering and it is a very good feeling to hear the crowd, even from

:07:02. > :07:05.Race Control. So three decades long Hungary has gone through seismic

:07:06. > :07:10.changes. But for people visiting the Hungary and ring this far it has

:07:11. > :07:21.been reassuringly consistent with the fastest car always winning.

:07:22. > :07:33.So if you're planning a stretch behind the wheel here is our guide

:07:34. > :07:37.for the world's test drive. Route 66 in the USA runs from Chicago all the

:07:38. > :07:41.way to Santa Monica on the Californian coast. It is too half

:07:42. > :07:45.thousand miles long and crosses eight states and three time zones

:07:46. > :07:54.and takes anywhere from a couple of weeks to a whole month to cross.

:07:55. > :08:01.South Africa's Garden Route gets as names from all the different part

:08:02. > :08:04.like that will see along the way. It connects Cape Town to Port Elizabeth

:08:05. > :08:07.and passes through ten nature reserves where you come across all

:08:08. > :08:14.sorts of different marine life including dolphins, seals and they

:08:15. > :08:20.endangered southern white whale. If you don't mind driving at outage

:08:21. > :08:27.you'd highway is one of the most highest-paid road. At an elevation

:08:28. > :08:33.of 4700 metres connecting China with Pakistani it is surrounded by

:08:34. > :08:37.mountains, place years and Lake. Avoid driving in the monsoon season

:08:38. > :08:44.because it could be blocked by heavy landslides. And for one of

:08:45. > :08:49.Britain's best driving experiences to the Outer Hebrides. You will see

:08:50. > :08:54.wonderful beaches and ancient standing stones along the way. And

:08:55. > :08:58.if you visit in the height of summer you can enjoy an awful lot of

:08:59. > :09:13.daylight as there is barely two hours of darkness at night. Still to

:09:14. > :09:17.come on the travel show... Simon is here with advice for island hoppers

:09:18. > :09:25.in Greece and hotel guests in the Seychelles. And we are in South

:09:26. > :09:27.Africa's wine lands meeting one of the country 's first black female

:09:28. > :11:25.winemakers. The Travel Show, your essential

:11:26. > :11:45.guide wherever you're heading. Welcome to the slice of the show

:11:46. > :11:49.that tackles your questions about getting the best out of trouble. We

:11:50. > :11:56.are off to Greece and the Indian Ocean shortly. But first, lots of

:11:57. > :11:58.you have been in touch about Canada's plans for the electronic

:11:59. > :12:05.travel authorisation scheme, aimed at people from outside North America

:12:06. > :12:09.who fly in without a visa. It was due to be made compulsory on the

:12:10. > :12:16.15th of March but has now been postponed until after the summer

:12:17. > :12:21.peak. Next, Jen is off to Athens for one week in April. I am going to

:12:22. > :12:24.Greece for a week and I would like to have a quick look at Athens and

:12:25. > :12:29.maybe some islands and the surrounding area, and see agent

:12:30. > :12:33.sites. What would you recommend at this time of year? Here is my ideal

:12:34. > :12:40.circuit for a trip for five days. From Piraeus, the port for Athens,

:12:41. > :12:44.take a boat to the island that is about one hour away and will

:12:45. > :12:48.transport you to a classic Greek island, a breezy coexistence of

:12:49. > :12:51.fishing and tourism, with gorgeous scenery and tempting waterside bars.

:12:52. > :13:00.If you can drag yourself away, continue by fast ferry by 90 minute

:13:01. > :13:04.-- full 90 minutes and go to this Venetian settlement, briefly the

:13:05. > :13:10.capital after independence and now a beautiful backwater. It is also the

:13:11. > :13:16.best place for a visit to this agent place, the most powerful kingdom in

:13:17. > :13:20.Greece many thousands of years ago and the place is still evocative of

:13:21. > :13:23.might. And on your way back to Athens pause as you cross this

:13:24. > :13:36.canal, a masterpiece of engineering connecting the two seas. Another has

:13:37. > :13:38.his eyes on a great American for a trip. But only if the price is

:13:39. > :13:51.right. Terry, because cars in the US are

:13:52. > :13:56.registered by state rather than nationally relocating a vehicle over

:13:57. > :14:03.the Stateline causes logistical issues and triggers a fee, such as

:14:04. > :14:06.the $300 you have been quoted. I've made a series of test bookings

:14:07. > :14:09.through one of the big US rental firms saying I am a local and while

:14:10. > :14:14.there's no formal additional drop-off charge the rate for leaving

:14:15. > :14:22.the car in another state ranged from around $250 to $525 for a California

:14:23. > :14:27.to Florida rental. I would call bodily drop-off fee by any other

:14:28. > :14:33.name! How to avoid it? It could be a lot cheaper to fly a cross country,

:14:34. > :14:42.although not so romantic. Emily is heading for the Indian Ocean.

:14:43. > :14:51.Most hotels in the Seychelles price their brooms in euros, thanks to the

:14:52. > :14:54.historic French Connection. But pragmatically they also accept

:14:55. > :14:58.pounds sterling. To decide which is best you need to decide how the

:14:59. > :15:03.hotel computes the sterling rate. Many properties will simply use the

:15:04. > :15:08.prevailing spot rate, in which case you might as well pay in pounds. But

:15:09. > :15:11.some hotels may see currency conversion as an opportunity to

:15:12. > :15:16.prosper offering a significantly poorer rate than the markets. Or the

:15:17. > :15:23.management might be behind the times and apply a slightly old rate that

:15:24. > :15:27.is beneficial to you. Just ask. In my experience hotels are happy to

:15:28. > :15:34.answer. I am always happy to hear from travel -- viewers. Just e-mail

:15:35. > :15:38.me and I will do my best to answer your questions. From me, goodbye for

:15:39. > :15:52.now and see you next time. Well, we have more special stories

:15:53. > :15:59.from South Africa, meeting some amazing people who call the country

:16:00. > :16:10.home. This week we are in a university is -- town in the Western

:16:11. > :16:15.Cape. Until now the winemakers have been white. So when we heard of the

:16:16. > :16:27.first female black winemaker, we thought we would go to meet her.

:16:28. > :16:40.Orlando is that whenever I work with on a get excited. Whenever I touch

:16:41. > :16:55.wine or an inconvenience. I need all of them read! -- two seas. I don't

:16:56. > :17:02.want to lose wine . We are bottling out 2012. It has been in the barrels

:17:03. > :17:07.for four months. They came here in 1999 through the scholarship from

:17:08. > :17:10.South African Airways to study winemaking and are never when I

:17:11. > :17:12.arrived for the first time I thought, what are these little

:17:13. > :17:19.trees? Actually those other vignettes. I grew up in a village

:17:20. > :17:23.and white people, you rarely see them. And all of a sudden I was in a

:17:24. > :17:29.place where basically 99% white people and 1% of blacks. So it was a

:17:30. > :17:33.completely different environment. For me there was a challenge of

:17:34. > :17:36.culture and language. It was one of those... It was an opportunity, let

:17:37. > :17:54.me take it and go into something. I will start you with the Pinot. It

:17:55. > :17:57.gets made in different styles and this one is basically a lighter

:17:58. > :18:11.style. It has been boarded for 14 months. -- it has been wooded. It is

:18:12. > :18:18.fruity. I will taste with you, because I cannot just watch people

:18:19. > :18:27.taste. It is a sin! This is South African wine. The cross of pin on a

:18:28. > :18:36.pinot noir and another. This is basically who we are. I want my wine

:18:37. > :18:39.to take a person to be a journey of where it comes from. When they taste

:18:40. > :18:45.the wine, understand that it is not just something that you take and mix

:18:46. > :18:50.and put it in a bottle, but as it happens it goes with your emotion as

:18:51. > :18:54.a winemaker, you get excited with the bottle. From the vignettes, all

:18:55. > :19:06.the way, there's people involved to put their heart and soul in it. --

:19:07. > :19:15.pinot -- vinyards.. These are the cabernet grapes. Every variety has

:19:16. > :19:22.different leaves. The cabernet has much more pronounced indentation.

:19:23. > :19:26.Look at this. We don't punch down, we try to avoid extracting cannons

:19:27. > :19:32.into the wind. In terms of taste, you will pick up the fruit, that

:19:33. > :19:36.component of the wood that we use and a good balance in the wind. --

:19:37. > :19:55.the wine. And then I've got a shiraz. Some are

:19:56. > :20:01.fruity, some have a real punch. People who are shiraz fans usually

:20:02. > :20:09.love that blockbuster type of shiraz. If people say they aren't

:20:10. > :20:19.shiraz fans, I would give them this. -- won't give them. Basically I

:20:20. > :20:25.started tasting wine during fermentation. You taste it and it is

:20:26. > :20:32.like, yes! It is now ready! It is wine, it is now in the direction of

:20:33. > :20:40.want. We do have straight cabernet, straight merlot. . When I look at

:20:41. > :20:43.the wines in general, the blended wines, you get to play. You get to

:20:44. > :20:57.do something completely different from anyone else. My two dozen for

:20:58. > :21:01.Cape Cross took an award. -- 2004. Took it home to my grandmother and

:21:02. > :21:05.for me that was my best moment. She had never tasted wine before. I

:21:06. > :21:09.opened it, pour the wine for her, she said it was nice. Her facial

:21:10. > :21:17.expression was saying something else. But it was like one of those

:21:18. > :21:22.things, it was just beautiful. This is a beautiful country. It has

:21:23. > :21:36.different provinces which all have different characters.

:21:37. > :21:46.South Africa's first black, female vintner. That's all we've got time

:21:47. > :21:49.for this week. Next week, Henry goes to Cambodia to jump on board a new

:21:50. > :21:54.train line, 40 years after the Khmer Rouge closedown at work. This new

:21:55. > :21:59.route promises to open up the country again for travellers and

:22:00. > :22:05.locals. It's a pretty simple engine. Very

:22:06. > :22:11.simple. He also takes a ride on a more makeshift and have racing line

:22:12. > :22:20.that 150 years after it was built is still going strong for the time

:22:21. > :22:24.being. -- hair raising. There is a bit of trepidation here, because you

:22:25. > :22:30.can see where it wriggles. You hit these bumps and I do feel as though

:22:31. > :22:34.I might fall off at any point! Do join us that if you can. In the

:22:35. > :22:37.meantime, don't forget you can catch up with us on social media. All the

:22:38. > :22:40.details you need on the bottom of the screen. Now, from me and the

:22:41. > :22:43.team in Budapest, goodbye.
