:00:00. > :00:08.very complex investigation, obviously. We will bring you that

:00:09. > :00:12.when it starts. Next, Travel Show. Ever turned up at a tourist

:00:13. > :00:16.attraction only to be told it is shut because it is too busy? In

:00:17. > :00:25.Italy a whole town is holding up a closed sign. Also coming up this

:00:26. > :00:30.week, we head to Brazil to explore a growing trend in the favelas of Rio.

:00:31. > :00:36.I cannot believe he is trusting me to cut his hair. Here we go. Simon

:00:37. > :00:42.Calder tackles your questions about getting the best out of travel. And

:00:43. > :00:45.this week boss-macro global gourmet comes from New York where we are

:00:46. > :01:18.checking out the mother of all sandwiches. -- this week's gourmet.

:01:19. > :01:24.This area is situated on the Italian Mediterranean coastline and it is

:01:25. > :01:32.dotted with pastels seaside villages. It is best known, really,

:01:33. > :01:38.as the Italian Riviera. This is a group of five villages and it is so

:01:39. > :01:44.lovely around here. You can see why it is one of the most visited bases

:01:45. > :01:50.in the country. Ironically, it is the number of visitors coming here

:01:51. > :01:53.which is causing a bit of a problem. This is a UN world Heritage site and

:01:54. > :02:00.officials say the rugged coastline area risks being wrecked by coach

:02:01. > :02:02.parties and cruise ships. All of these villages in the area used to

:02:03. > :02:08.have fishing as the main industry. Now they rely solely on tourism. It

:02:09. > :02:15.is hard to understand why the authorities would want to limit the

:02:16. > :02:19.number of people coming here. -- would not want to. Cruise companies

:02:20. > :02:25.are adding more Italian destinations to their itinerary as other

:02:26. > :02:32.Mediterranean ports like Tunisia, losing their appeal after the recent

:02:33. > :02:37.terrorist attacks. Last year about 2.5 million people visited this

:02:38. > :02:38.area. The local authorities say that is too much and they want that

:02:39. > :03:23.number almost cut in half. Do you think it is realistic to be

:03:24. > :03:49.able to control the number of tourists coming into this region?

:03:50. > :03:55.The idea is to create a ticketing system which will come into effect

:03:56. > :04:00.next summer. It will work much like buying a train ticket but you will

:04:01. > :04:04.also gain entry to one of the five religious at an extra cost. The

:04:05. > :04:07.authorities believe it is the best way to control the numbers of people

:04:08. > :04:15.heading here. But not everybody agrees. I do not agree with the idea

:04:16. > :04:19.of limitation for its own sake. What we need to talk about is managing

:04:20. > :04:23.tourist flow. Some days you cannot even walk down the street for the

:04:24. > :04:28.amount of tourists. That does not help anyone. I think a lot of the

:04:29. > :04:32.people here are worried that if you do anything tourists will stop

:04:33. > :04:39.coming because they are worried. I think most tourists see that if you

:04:40. > :04:44.do something reasonable, everybody will have a better experience. By

:04:45. > :04:49.talking to people here I get the feeling locals simply want tourists

:04:50. > :04:52.to stay longer. Not just whizzing by on a cruise ship and disappearing

:04:53. > :04:57.hours later, but venturing beyond the seafront, staying the night and

:04:58. > :05:09.exploring inland by hiking, or taking a trip to a winery.

:05:10. > :05:16.This village is also known as a small white wine region. But not

:05:17. > :05:20.many tourists get to experience it, in part because of the location.

:05:21. > :05:32.Most of these vineyards are high on the cliffs, which are spectacular.

:05:33. > :05:36.Part of my tour includes visiting a wine plant, which is handy because

:05:37. > :05:43.it is thirsty work as a travel show presenter. To produce the unique

:05:44. > :05:45.taste the wine here, producers are using a blend three local grapes,

:05:46. > :06:01.Bosco, Alba Rohner and vermin team. Shortly after my tour, I am told how

:06:02. > :06:02.there is hope that with tourist caps, some visitors will stay longer

:06:03. > :06:33.and make the trip to the vineyards. Can you tell me what impact the mass

:06:34. > :06:35.tourism has had on the environment? Has it affected the production of

:06:36. > :07:06.the wine? As my time here comes to an end it

:07:07. > :07:11.will be interesting to see how authorities manage the flow of next

:07:12. > :07:16.year's tourists. By then these roads will be fitted with devices to gauge

:07:17. > :07:21.the number of people visiting and when a certain number is reached,

:07:22. > :07:27.access will be closed. Tickets will be sold ahead of time online and on

:07:28. > :07:31.and have currently being developed. They will show you which of the

:07:32. > :07:48.villages are heavily congested, or sold out because of popular demand.

:07:49. > :07:52.It is not just here in Italy where tourist numbers are being

:07:53. > :07:59.controlled. It is happening all over the world. Listen up, because here

:08:00. > :08:04.is a rundown of the places where tourists are not always as well, as

:08:05. > :08:14.they once were. -- well come to. -- well come. -- welcome. To combat the

:08:15. > :08:19.meta- sightseers buzzers -- the amount sightseers, they are tackling

:08:20. > :08:23.overcrowding. Soon visitors will have two have a local guide and have

:08:24. > :08:29.restricted time limits at certain sites will stop visits to the miss

:08:30. > :08:34.critical Kingdome in the Himalayas now requires a daily tariff for

:08:35. > :08:38.actually being there. The tariff covers a sustainable tourism royalty

:08:39. > :08:50.going towards free education and health care. Finally, last year, the

:08:51. > :08:53.authorities in Barcelona said they intended to limit the number of

:08:54. > :08:57.tourists. There are plans to introduce a city wide freeze on

:08:58. > :09:01.building any new hotels and tourism rental apartments. Last year almost

:09:02. > :09:21.8 million people visited Barcelona. Next up, we are in York for a global

:09:22. > :09:22.gourmet. This week it is the legendary Katz deli,
