:00:00. > :00:00.promises, many families will be watching to see if there will be
:00:00. > :00:00.real change. Coming up next
:00:07. > :00:17.on BBC News, it's the Travel Show. You and me are going to be best
:00:18. > :00:20.buddies today, we are going to treat each other nicely. OK, I'm sorry,
:00:21. > :00:52.I'm sorry! Welcome to the Travel Show, coming
:00:53. > :00:57.to you this week from Singapore where it is celebrating its 50th
:00:58. > :01:00.anniversary. The city is on a higher, but the amount of people
:01:01. > :01:04.coming here is getting lower. We asked why, and how much it will
:01:05. > :01:09.bring back those numbers. That is coming up in a moment. Here's what
:01:10. > :01:18.else is coming up on this week's show. Don't look down coal and we
:01:19. > :01:22.take you a long way up a cliff. We are in the wilds of Kazakhstan
:01:23. > :01:32.learning to control real horsepower. Turn it to left, is to
:01:33. > :01:39.go right. I'm a master of the horse. Look at me! Because, Crossroads of
:01:40. > :01:50.East Asia, just the equator. People are stuffing of on their way from
:01:51. > :01:55.one place to another -- crossroads -- stopping of. Is a big city that
:01:56. > :02:01.keeps on growing. Links get bigger, the hotels get higher. There is only
:02:02. > :02:08.one thing going down -the number of people coming here to take it all
:02:09. > :02:12.in. I personally live here in Singapore, in many ways it is an
:02:13. > :02:15.amazing place. If you ask people around the world what they think
:02:16. > :02:21.about when they think about Singapore, a proper give you two
:02:22. > :02:32.answer is. Food and shopping -- probably give you. That's part of
:02:33. > :02:34.Singapore's problem, these days people can find shopping like this
:02:35. > :02:42.in any number of places around the world. Singapore can be expensive,
:02:43. > :02:46.and some people find it safe, even boring. That is why Singapore is
:02:47. > :02:56.looking for something new to get more people to come here and stay
:02:57. > :03:00.here for longer. Now, this spectacular building could be part
:03:01. > :03:05.of that. This is Singapore's brand-new National Gallery, when it
:03:06. > :03:09.opens in a couple of weeks to the public it might be bringing in new
:03:10. > :03:17.type of visitor, one that's looking to feed their mind. And the recipe?
:03:18. > :03:22.Take two landmark buildings in the city centre, but a spectacular link
:03:23. > :03:31.between them, add in the best of Singapore's art collection and hope
:03:32. > :03:37.the visitors go wild. That is before! I'm glad you like it. --
:03:38. > :03:49.beautiful. The biggest thing I have noticed is the span is. -- span.
:03:50. > :03:53.When a visitor comes, what do you want them to notice Brazil at the
:03:54. > :03:59.most important thing was to make them feel a sense of welcome, which
:04:00. > :04:03.is why we have made it very comfortable. It tilts open, to try
:04:04. > :04:14.and make it very welcoming to come into the building -- notice? The
:04:15. > :04:21.most important thing. From a sneak preview, it could be pretty amazing.
:04:22. > :04:25.But, will it draw in the visitors? The gallery has high hopes of
:04:26. > :04:32.pulling in thousands every day. Our aim is around 2.6 million. We will
:04:33. > :04:36.grow it slowly, people are so curious and interested in these
:04:37. > :04:41.buildings. I think we can't wait to open the doors. I think they will
:04:42. > :04:45.come in in droves. They want to see the buildings in the modern art
:04:46. > :04:53.together under one roof for the first time. Singapore's file from
:04:54. > :05:03.the first place to build a landmark Art Gallery to bring in visitors.
:05:04. > :05:08.This building is spectacular. What might really make the gallery is its
:05:09. > :05:21.art collection. All is all of it is from around here, in South-East Asia
:05:22. > :05:29.-- almost all of it. Looks very grand indeed. You're looking at the
:05:30. > :05:37.work of a Japanese artist who was born into an aristocratic family. It
:05:38. > :05:40.was made in 1849, and is the largest painting to be made by this artist.
:05:41. > :05:57.It will be the largest painting in the gallery. Very visceral with that
:05:58. > :06:00.Tiger scowling. With the artist, it is a collection from South-East
:06:01. > :06:05.Asia. Do you think it will be strong enough to entice foreigners to come
:06:06. > :06:12.to Singapore to have that flavour of art here. -- tiger definitely. After
:06:13. > :06:17.the opening, we will be the only museum in the world to focus on
:06:18. > :06:24.modern art of South-East Asia. It will be a must visit destination,
:06:25. > :06:29.definitely. What it opens, the National Gallery is not going to be
:06:30. > :06:44.the only art show in town. I am on my way to another brand-new gallery
:06:45. > :06:49.which started in Paris. This is the Singapore branch of a gallery in
:06:50. > :06:53.France, filled with masterpieces from around the world. Since it
:06:54. > :07:00.opened earlier this year, it's been bringing in visitors from around the
:07:01. > :07:08.world. About a week ago, we had an Australian Art collector, one of our
:07:09. > :07:18.museums were amazed that he walked through this exhibition. He was able
:07:19. > :07:22.to price every artwork to his partner, from that we know that
:07:23. > :07:30.there are individuals who are interested. The art pieces you see
:07:31. > :07:36.in this room, 40 masterpieces, they are all on loan from other
:07:37. > :07:42.collectors. You could fly to up to 15 cities around Europe, you would
:07:43. > :07:50.not necessarily encounter these are works. Will these galleries change
:07:51. > :07:53.anything? Most people come to Singapore and stay less than three
:07:54. > :08:00.days, getting a taste of the city and moving on. But, maybe some will
:08:01. > :08:09.have an appetite for a more cultured Singapore. Time now for the Travel
:08:10. > :08:25.Show guide to getting buy in Singapore away from those galleries.
:08:26. > :08:32.Changi airport is a site, take him some time to see the butterflies. It
:08:33. > :08:35.can sometimes get very smoggy, especially during forest fire season
:08:36. > :08:40.in Indonesia which is only a few kilometres away. If the air is
:08:41. > :08:48.polluted, do what the Singaporeans do and had inside. When it rains in
:08:49. > :08:53.Singapore, it really rains. It is hot and humid, so not the best place
:08:54. > :08:58.to walk around -- head. Our advice is to rise above it on the city
:08:59. > :09:01.transit. Overground or underground, the trains have air conditioning,
:09:02. > :09:09.move around the city quickly and keep you dry. Or, call down by
:09:10. > :09:13.getting wet. This is called a floor windup, part of Singapore's
:09:14. > :09:20.playground. It is like setting, but without taking to the sea. It draws
:09:21. > :09:29.a crowd, so do try to stay on your feet. Time now to find out what's
:09:30. > :09:38.going on in the rest of the world, he's this week's travel update --
:09:39. > :09:45.here's. Halloween celebrations take place around the world this weekend,
:09:46. > :09:48.but in Japan and -- an annual Halloween Parade starts early. It
:09:49. > :09:55.was not just the humans who dressed up, some dogs got into the spirit as
:09:56. > :10:00.well. Brazil continues preparations for the rear of the games, and they
:10:01. > :10:05.also played host to the first-ever integers world games. 24 Brazilian
:10:06. > :10:14.ethnicities participate in the nine-day event, delegates from 23
:10:15. > :10:23.other countries. Competition include traditional disciplines like archery
:10:24. > :10:30.and 44. In Spain, people watch as thousands of sheep cross through
:10:31. > :10:36.central Madrid. They are making the annual migration to the south of the
:10:37. > :10:42.country. Around 1 million animals are moved in this way, across the
:10:43. > :10:47.country's migration tracks -- tug-o-war. And, here in Singapore,
:10:48. > :10:51.celebrations continued for the State's 50 years of independence.
:10:52. > :10:56.The Singapore River Festival put on a dramatic show. 42 performers were
:10:57. > :10:58.attached to ropes lifted by the river where they moved in formation
:10:59. > :11:15.to music. Stay with us, lots more to come in
:11:16. > :11:24.the programme. We learned that in Kazakhstan it is better not to cross
:11:25. > :11:29.a horseman. And a viral video tour of America buzz in south-west. --
:11:30. > :11:44.America's. The Travel Show, your essential
:11:45. > :11:47.guide wherever you are heading. Hello, and welcome to trending
:11:48. > :11:52.travel where we explore what is hot on line in the world of travel. I
:11:53. > :11:58.will show you applications, videos and blogs to take with you. Let's
:11:59. > :12:01.begin by taking a look at the top stories that have caught our
:12:02. > :12:10.attention on line or social media this month. Social media has been
:12:11. > :12:14.buzzing with post celebrating tourism worldwide. -- posts. The
:12:15. > :12:21.number of international tourists trips have exceeded 1 billion. In
:12:22. > :12:35.addition to Google's street view, we have mapped Yosemite National Park.
:12:36. > :12:46.Users can explore the 3000 foot rockface with a slightly vertigo
:12:47. > :12:53.inducing vertical street view. A risky trend has swept social media
:12:54. > :13:00.this month called "extreme phone pinching". People all around the
:13:01. > :13:05.world are showing themselves holding their phone with just a pinch of
:13:06. > :13:08.their fingers. The more chance of destroying your phone, the better.
:13:09. > :13:17.We don't recommend this at home or anywhere. When a 9000 foot glass
:13:18. > :13:22.bottom bridge opened in China, people loved it. But then it
:13:23. > :13:27.cracked. An American who wrote 100 observations about England from his
:13:28. > :13:31.recent visit in a Facebook post has seen its go viral. In his
:13:32. > :13:36.light-hearted post, he said that his observations came from time spent in
:13:37. > :13:43.small towns in England. The post generated dozens of a man's. It has
:13:44. > :13:48.been shared by over 80,000 Facebook users. -- comments. We asked him
:13:49. > :13:57.what it was like. A complete surprise. No expectations of it. I
:13:58. > :13:59.always write funny things. When it passed 2000 I thought something
:14:00. > :14:06.strange was happening. My cousin told me he has doorknobs older than
:14:07. > :14:15.America. So I wrote that down and it went on from there. It made me proud
:14:16. > :14:21.to be American. We loved seeing what you are up to on line. You have been
:14:22. > :14:25.sending us great stuff this month. -- love. Your photos have been
:14:26. > :14:33.coming in from all around the world, especially on Tuesday with
:14:34. > :14:35.the hashtag Travel Tuesday. We are putting up lots of content and
:14:36. > :14:41.keeping you up-to-date with the top travel stories on Twitter and
:14:42. > :14:45.Facebook. Check them out. Let's look at the viral videos that have been
:14:46. > :14:50.clocking up the views this month. When Pedro visited North Korea in
:14:51. > :14:54.September, he captured his experiences in this beautiful
:14:55. > :14:58.five-minute film. We love how he shows the lives and passions of
:14:59. > :15:12.those living in the famously secretive state. And across to
:15:13. > :15:16.Arizona where Julian and his friends filmed there 3000 mile journey
:15:17. > :15:21.through the incredible landscape of America plus a south-west. He said
:15:22. > :15:31.it involved a lot of early mornings and late nights but the results are
:15:32. > :15:34.breathtaking. -- America's. And don't forget to check out our
:15:35. > :15:37.website for all the ways that you can get in touch or if you have seen
:15:38. > :15:48.anything on that you think we should be looking at. CDU next time! -- See
:15:49. > :15:56.you. Finally this week we are going to south-east Kazakhstan in central
:15:57. > :15:59.Asia. It is full of beautiful and virtually untouched mountains, but
:16:00. > :16:06.if you want to explore them there is really only one way to travel. We
:16:07. > :16:09.have sent Ben to try out the Kazakhstan mode of transport with a
:16:10. > :16:20.whole load of history and a mind of its own. It has been said that no
:16:21. > :16:24.hour of light spent in the saddle is wasted. -- life. If that is true
:16:25. > :16:30.then the people here have some seriously fulfilling lives. Horses
:16:31. > :16:33.are a huge part of the history and culture here. It is thought that
:16:34. > :16:41.Kazakhstan may be the place that the course was first domesticated over
:16:42. > :16:47.5000 years ago. -- horse. It is fair to say that unlike the locals here I
:16:48. > :16:51.am not a natural horseman by any stretch of the imagination. I see
:16:52. > :16:53.them as cars with brains which is slightly terrifying. But travel is
:16:54. > :16:58.about wishing yourself to the limit, so I will become a
:16:59. > :17:03.horsemaster. Because this is the BBC, it is all about health and
:17:04. > :17:09.safety. But this is all they had for me because no one he wears, and. My
:17:10. > :17:31.guide for today is this man. Why do you need a horse?
:17:32. > :17:39.It is time to get acquainted with my ride. All right, so, me and you are
:17:40. > :17:43.going to be best buddies to date it be we are going to treat each other
:17:44. > :17:54.nicely. But I don't think I gave a very good first impression. --
:17:55. > :18:03.today. Time for the first challenge , getting on the thing. So, that is
:18:04. > :18:08.to go left. This is to go right. I am a master of the horse. Look at
:18:09. > :18:19.me! (LAUGHING). What is his name?
:18:20. > :18:25.Orlick. Hello, Orlick. Oh, he actually responded. This is good.
:18:26. > :18:31.Finally, we were off. We're on our way to be sure of one of the three
:18:32. > :18:35.links and my faithful steed was making good work of what seemed to
:18:36. > :18:43.be treacherous terrain. A few minutes in and it is going well. I
:18:44. > :18:46.have a beautiful Lake on the left. The horse hasn't killed me yet. The
:18:47. > :18:56.beautiful thing about horses is that they don't want to die either. --
:18:57. > :19:00.lake. I am going with one hand. I am a master. The horses are rented from
:19:01. > :19:17.local villages. It is a good way for them to make money. In a usual
:19:18. > :19:22.circumstances I would look slightly ridiculous wearing this hat but
:19:23. > :19:27.riding through the collect them out and on a horse, no one can look
:19:28. > :19:32.ridiculous. -- Kazakhstan mountains. You can see why you would
:19:33. > :19:37.need a course to get around here. No car could make it down these
:19:38. > :19:41.tracks. But after a few hours we finally made it to the
:19:42. > :19:47.destination-- horse. We have successfully made it to one of the
:19:48. > :19:52.lakes. I have ditched my hat and now it is time to admire the view. What
:19:53. > :20:00.a place. IMB sickly by myself and it is readable. After an Alaba myself I
:20:01. > :20:05.understand my horse. -- I am basically. They don't just write
:20:06. > :20:11.them here, oh, no, before leaving the country, it is time to see some
:20:12. > :20:18.professional. -- ride. This is the nomad horse riders. This --
:20:19. > :20:32.professionals. The guy in the middle is supposedly
:20:33. > :20:36.the leader. He is the Zorro of Kazakhstan. Hello, nice to. I am
:20:37. > :21:03.Benjamin. -- nice to meet you. So, you are one of the coolest guys
:21:04. > :21:12.I have ever seen. What exactly makes you the Kazakh Zorro. Is it because
:21:13. > :21:21.you look like Antonio Banderas? (LAUGHING).
:21:22. > :21:31.OK. So my time with horses has not bought me this, but it has taught me
:21:32. > :21:34.that they are definitely man's best friend here in Kazakhstan. It is
:21:35. > :21:40.history and culture and these guys have taken it to a whole new level.
:21:41. > :21:55.UPLIFTING MUSIC. Well, that is just about it for this
:21:56. > :22:04.week but join us next week if you can when... We had to LA and enjoy
:22:05. > :22:11.this car loving city on two wheels. -- head. This is amazing. It is like
:22:12. > :22:15.claiming the street. In the meantime, go to the bottom of the
:22:16. > :22:19.screen to see the social media handles where you can keep up with
:22:20. > :22:28.us while we are on the road. Don't forget, you can use the hashtag
:22:29. > :22:33.Travel Tuesday to show us the pictures from your journeys. But in
:22:34. > :22:51.the meantime, from us on The Travel Show, it is goodbye.
:22:52. > :22:54.Rain around at the moment that will linger in Scotland Saturday morning.
:22:55. > :23:00.There will be stubborn fog patches on Sunday.
:23:01. > :23:04.Where we see the sunshine it will be warm on Saturday afternoon.
:23:05. > :23:06.We start the weekend with mild temperatures.
