:00:04. > :00:14.Good evening and welcome to BBC Channel Islands. Our top stories

:00:14. > :00:17.

:00:17. > :00:21.tonight: fraudsters target a luxury hotel, customers' details at risk.

:00:21. > :00:26.They Guernsey rugby star guilty of attacking Jersey players avoids

:00:26. > :00:36.jail. And a wagging tail on the trail,

:00:36. > :00:43.

:00:43. > :00:47.meet the islands' newest recruit in Good evening. As security breach

:00:47. > :00:52.after Jersey hotel could have led to customers been conned after

:00:52. > :00:55.thousands of pounds. The Royal Yacht has told a BBC that one of

:00:55. > :01:00.their telephone booking lines was diverted to a potential fraudster

:01:00. > :01:05.last week. Police are investigating the matter.

:01:05. > :01:13.The sun shone down on the Royal Yacht today, but last week the mood

:01:13. > :01:19.here was darker. It is alleged a fraudster and managed to intercept

:01:19. > :01:23.a hotel's booking lines, getting access to customers' names,

:01:23. > :01:26.addresses and credit-card details. No one from the hotel wanted to

:01:26. > :01:30.talk on camera today and they would not let us inside to film but they

:01:30. > :01:34.have confirmed an investigation is taking place and they stressed that

:01:34. > :01:39.no payments were taken from any of the credit cards intercepted. Today,

:01:39. > :01:44.those around are hotel gave their reaction. I think they should be

:01:44. > :01:48.some procedure in place to protect the privacy. When you are staying

:01:48. > :01:54.summer, you put a bit of trust in them, especially if they can get

:01:54. > :01:58.hold of any of your details. goes to show that it is not just

:01:58. > :02:06.the internet where people can get your details from. People are

:02:06. > :02:10.getting quite ingenious. Royal Yacht bosses say that police are

:02:10. > :02:17.investigating, but for now, a hotel and its guests are asking why and

:02:17. > :02:21.what went wrong. I Guernsey rugby player who

:02:21. > :02:24.attacked two rival Jersey players after last year's Slam Cup has

:02:24. > :02:29.avoided a jail sentence. James Reynard was found guilty last month

:02:29. > :02:33.of to assaults. Rugby is supposed to be a

:02:33. > :02:38.gentleman's game, but what happened off the pitch after last year's

:02:38. > :02:43.Slam Cup match was far from gentlemanly. Tempers spilled over

:02:43. > :02:46.just hours after the match finished. There Jersey team was staying here

:02:46. > :02:49.at the see St Pierre Park Hotel when it is claimed Guernsey player

:02:49. > :02:54.James Reynard turned up after hearing one of his younger players

:02:54. > :02:59.had been assaulted. He went to a room where players David Felton and

:02:59. > :03:03.Paul Rodgers were staying. They say he threw the first punch and was

:03:03. > :03:07.choking Mr Felton, leaving him with a swollen eye, a chipped tooth and

:03:07. > :03:11.bloody nose. Today the Royal Court met to decide on the fate of the

:03:11. > :03:17.player. Today, Reynard was sentenced to 120 hours' community

:03:17. > :03:25.service and a have to pay his victim for and 49 in compensation,

:03:25. > :03:29.including 149 for dental work. -- 149 in compensation.

:03:29. > :03:34.There is a new weapon in the fight against drug smuggling, but you

:03:34. > :03:40.nearly 700,000 worth of drugs were seized in Jersey. Six months into

:03:40. > :03:43.this year, the value already stands at 400,000. It is hoped a new

:03:43. > :03:47.addition to the customs and immigration team will help stem the

:03:47. > :03:52.flow. But don't be fooled by his cute appearance, Barley means

:03:53. > :03:58.business. Getting into character, and

:03:58. > :04:03.strapping on his uniform. Barley steps out -- sniffs out any scent

:04:03. > :04:07.of suspicion. But to act the part, he must look the part. As the

:04:07. > :04:12.newest member of the team, Barley is keen to get going as he

:04:12. > :04:17.patiently awaits instructions from his handler. And it is off to his

:04:17. > :04:22.first port of call. Drugs are always coming into the island. Last

:04:22. > :04:26.year received nearly 700,000 worth of drugs. We are up to 400,000

:04:26. > :04:29.this year and dogs have their part to play. Intelligence is the main

:04:29. > :04:36.tool but the dogs are very important part four have been --

:04:36. > :04:45.helping a search cars or freight. They can detect drugs on a prison

:04:45. > :04:49.Vostok -- drugs on a person. never fails to deliver the goods.

:04:49. > :04:54.Barley has made three drug detections so far this year. Last

:04:54. > :04:58.year, more than 500,000 worth of heroin was seized at a harbour,

:04:58. > :05:01.followed by cocaine and cannabis. With the figure of the King said to

:05:02. > :05:08.match that this year, it is hoped Barley will be able to help reduce

:05:08. > :05:10.the amount of drugs getting into the island. They come in via our

:05:10. > :05:16.but also the airport and the highest numbers at the Post Office

:05:16. > :05:20.last year, 72 drugs seizures were made. He seeks them there, he seeks

:05:20. > :05:30.them there. If drugs are in this freight, Barley will be top dog to

:05:30. > :05:31.

:05:31. > :05:34.Guernsey's Sea Cadets could become homeless. The group, which gives

:05:34. > :05:38.youngsters the chance to experience naval life, will have to leave his

:05:38. > :05:42.current peace as it has been redeveloped. Brent Pilnick has been

:05:42. > :05:46.to meet them and hear their concerns.

:05:46. > :05:51.The Sea Cadets have been learning boat craft at their headquarters

:05:51. > :05:58.far more than two decades. But the old grammar school site is about to

:05:58. > :06:03.be redeveloped, meaning that soon, they will be homeless. This wooden

:06:03. > :06:09.building here is our headquarters, our main deck and training rooms,

:06:09. > :06:13.stores and office space. Further down here, we have our boat yard,

:06:13. > :06:19.which during the winter is chock-a- block full of boats, most of our

:06:19. > :06:25.boats are in the water at the moment. But we need quite abate,

:06:25. > :06:29.hardstanding area for our boats, over winter. -- quite at 80

:06:29. > :06:33.hardstanding area. The cadets have at temporary home at the northern

:06:33. > :06:38.branch of the Royal British Legion at L'Islet, but in the long term

:06:38. > :06:43.they are still in limbo. If we do not have a new home, we will have

:06:43. > :06:50.nowhere to go. In the winter, we will not be able to have Kodak's --

:06:50. > :06:59.cadets. I enjoy coming to Sea Cadets, because it is a good pass

:06:59. > :07:07.time. I get to learn skills that it would not learned elsewhere.

:07:07. > :07:14.whether it is raising flags, putting up sails, or just standing

:07:14. > :07:24.to attention, these young people know that without a new permanent

:07:24. > :07:27.

:07:27. > :07:33.home, the future may not be quite Sport, and the Guernsey cricketer

:07:33. > :07:38.Tim Ravenscroft has been selected to appear as England's 12th man in

:07:38. > :07:43.their Test against Sri Lanka. The selection means Ravenscroft may get

:07:43. > :07:46.a chance to don an England shirt at the Rose Bowl.

:07:46. > :07:51.Staying with sport, the stand tomorrow, I well, along with

:07:51. > :07:57.hundreds of other people in Jersey, be getting ready for the annual

:07:57. > :08:05.Itex war. One man is going even further, he is going to kayak

:08:05. > :08:09.around the island. -- Itex walk. It takes 30 hours.

:08:09. > :08:14.Getting ready for a round the island challenge, Nigel Crocker

:08:14. > :08:19.puts in the last but a preparation as he aims to paddle around Jersey.

:08:19. > :08:25.Once he has done that, he will cycle round the island and complete

:08:25. > :08:29.the Itex Walk. And this is why. Nigel and his wife lost their

:08:29. > :08:33.daughter Grace after she suffered a rare heart condition. Her treatment

:08:33. > :08:38.in the UK met time away from home and added stress on Michael's

:08:38. > :08:43.family. His challenge over land and sea will help the foundation that

:08:43. > :08:48.bears his daughter's name. This is to raise funds for families who

:08:48. > :08:51.need the support, financial or by means of communication with us to

:08:52. > :08:57.find out what is entailed when they have to go to the UK for these

:08:57. > :09:01.achievements, just to let them know they are not by themselves. 17th

:09:01. > :09:08.June would be her second birthday. A lot of family and fans will come

:09:08. > :09:16.to support me and Jimmy on. My wife and mighty other children will join

:09:16. > :09:21.me for the last for five miles. -- my other children. As Nigel and his

:09:21. > :09:26.training partner paddle off the coast, his family and friends hope

:09:26. > :09:35.his 130 mile trek will help other families cope with the trauma of a

:09:35. > :09:41.sick child in the UK. Best of luck, Nigel. I would say I

:09:41. > :09:42.will see you on the walk, but even after all your kayaking and cycling,

:09:42. > :09:50.after all your kayaking and cycling, you will probably still be ahead of

:09:50. > :09:54.I generally fine and dry start to the night, but we do have a weather

:09:54. > :09:59.system zooming in from the south- west. That will bring some wet and

:09:59. > :10:05.windy weather throughout the day tomorrow. That system moves through

:10:05. > :10:08.by lunchtime on Saturday. But we have a brisk westerly wind. For the

:10:08. > :10:12.time being, generally dry conditions during the first part of

:10:12. > :10:17.the night with some clear skies. Cloud will thicken through the

:10:17. > :10:22.early hours of tomorrow morning, teaching temperatures no lower than

:10:22. > :10:27.12 Celsius. Tomorrow starting off on a cloudy note, and quickly that

:10:27. > :10:32.rain will push in from the south- west. It will be with us throughout

:10:32. > :10:37.much of the day tomorrow. Wet and windy, not particularly pleasant if

:10:37. > :10:43.you have outdoor plants tomorrow. Eating Celsius the top temperature.

:10:43. > :10:53.Feeling cooler with that fresh wind. -- e Imps Celsius. Here is the

:10:53. > :11:13.

:11:13. > :11:17.There should be some clean conditions for the surfing. Here is

:11:17. > :11:23.the outlook for the coming days. Tomorrow, that wet and windy

:11:23. > :11:28.weather. Tomorrow is looking like a write-off. For Saturday, we do have

:11:28. > :11:33.a brisk westerly wind. Quite a blustery feel to the weather. Heavy

:11:33. > :11:37.showers at times, but some bright and sunny spells in between. A

:11:37. > :11:47.little more dry and bright for Sunday. Generally cloudy but dry on

:11:47. > :11:50.

:11:50. > :11:54.Finally, a familiar face returned to Alderney today, there for me --

:11:54. > :11:59.a free figure of Uncle Bulgaria touchdown. He was attending the

:11:59. > :12:04.memorial of the Wombles creator Eliza Beresford, who died recently.
