:00:10. > :00:14.Welcome to BBC Channel Islands. Coming up tonight: Was money no

:00:38. > :00:48.And we have extended highlights of last week's Island Games. The

:00:52. > :00:57.The man in charge of Jersey's biggest ever police investigation

:00:57. > :01:01.says he was told that money was no object. Lenny Harper led the

:01:01. > :01:06.initial investigation into historic Abbey's on the island. He was

:01:06. > :01:09.questioned today by politicians about a damning report about police

:01:09. > :01:13.spending -- historic abuse on the island.

:01:13. > :01:16.At the time of the Haut de la Garenne investigation and an

:01:16. > :01:20.intense media spotlight, the then Chief Minister told investigators

:01:20. > :01:24.it would be given all the resources they needed. But a report at the

:01:24. > :01:27.end of the investigation found the police had spent more than 1

:01:27. > :01:37.million on entertainment, meals and travel including stays at top

:01:37. > :01:40.hotels and expensive restaurants. Mr Harper told that they wanted an

:01:40. > :01:44.investigation from day one but was told by senior civil servants that

:01:44. > :01:49.the cost was irrelevant. And he said that if the auditors had asked

:01:49. > :01:53.him, he would have been able to justify the 7.5 million price tag

:01:53. > :01:56.of the investigation. To date, he said that he was flying

:01:56. > :02:03.blind in that not only did they have a budget but we were being

:02:03. > :02:13.told that cost was irrelevant. He went on. Another politician leading

:02:13. > :02:18.the review wants to hear all sides of the story. By believe there are

:02:18. > :02:21.two sites to the story. Over the next few weeks, the panel will be

:02:21. > :02:24.speaking to the accountants and the Home Affairs Minister and expect to

:02:24. > :02:33.finish the report in a few months and bring the speculation about how

:02:33. > :02:38.this investigation was run to a A manner he was Suzy injured and a

:02:38. > :02:42.car crash in March has died -- a man. Joao Correia was one of eight

:03:01. > :03:06.for top there is still uncertainty over when pictures of Guernsey will

:03:06. > :03:13.appear on Google's Street View. They give you a 360 degree

:03:13. > :03:17.perspective and Jersey's went live last year. -- last week. It has

:03:17. > :03:21.been said with problems. They are the cars that turned heads

:03:22. > :03:26.and took photos across Guernsey and Jersey last summer. They are pretty

:03:26. > :03:32.noticeable. The mission is to let anybody in the world have a full

:03:32. > :03:40.view of our roads as if they were here and all at the click of a

:03:40. > :03:45.mouse. Google's Street View views online. I have got these of St

:03:45. > :03:49.Helier but Guernsey's Data Protection Commissioner had so many

:03:49. > :03:52.complaints of people not wanting their information to go on mind and

:03:52. > :03:55.it seems Google were a bit confused as well.

:03:55. > :04:00.Were they came over to Guernsey, they did not know where the private

:04:00. > :04:03.roads were. They had taken photography and so they were a

:04:03. > :04:06.setback and told to find out where the roads were and told not to

:04:06. > :04:12.publish any information about the private roads. The latest I have is

:04:12. > :04:15.that they are still trying to work out how to deal with the images

:04:15. > :04:21.they have taken so that they do not take images which they have agreed

:04:21. > :04:25.not to publish. Googled say they are in ongoing discussions with the

:04:25. > :04:30.authorities over Street View. But what is the view on the street?

:04:30. > :04:33.think it is pretty pathetic. Everybody else in the world has got

:04:33. > :04:37.it so why not as? Everybody is entitled to a certain amount of

:04:37. > :04:41.privacy and I think Google can be too invasive. In a world where you

:04:41. > :04:51.can get anything on the internet, it seems our search for privacy is

:05:08. > :05:12.The introduction of work permits was discussed. This is a small

:05:12. > :05:16.number, 350 people responded to consultation but never the less the

:05:16. > :05:20.quality of those responses was extremely high. We are very pleased

:05:20. > :05:24.and ankle for that and indeed that will have a great effect on the way

:05:24. > :05:27.we will think about framing the actual principle framework to be

:05:28. > :05:31.taken to the State in the latter part of this year.

:05:32. > :05:35.Population issues have plagued Jersey Zoo as well.

:05:35. > :05:38.disappointing breeding record of the male guerrilla means he has

:05:54. > :05:58.Meet Ya Kwanza, at 240 kilograms, the silverback gorilla has a

:05:58. > :06:04.healthy appetite for food. The problem is his appetite for female

:06:04. > :06:11.gorillas has not met expectations. He has not bred for six years. It

:06:31. > :06:35.attraction for him and so he has not really taken to the females and

:06:35. > :06:39.they have not really taken to him. It means Ya Kwanza will be shipped

:06:39. > :06:45.to a zoo in France where he can live with other bachelors who have

:06:45. > :06:51.not wanted to breed. In a fortnight, he will be anaesthetised, lifted

:06:51. > :06:55.and transported indiscreet on to a ferry to his new home. So Ya Kwanza

:06:55. > :07:00.is on his way out but there is still hope for the female gorillas.

:07:00. > :07:05.A younger and more enthusiastic male is about to come in from

:07:05. > :07:09.France and Dorrell hopes there will be babies yet. A's in his prime, at

:07:09. > :07:14.just 12 years old, the new kid on the block is likely to turn on his

:07:23. > :07:31.Maybe it is Jersey's glorious sunshine making our male guerrillas

:07:31. > :07:35.lazy, let us see what is coming up After a fine weekend, the rest of

:07:35. > :07:38.this week goes downhill. We will see much more than the way of cloud,

:07:39. > :07:44.some rain as well. Either in the form of bands of rain moving

:07:44. > :07:48.through swiftly or what is what likely, a scattering of showers.

:07:48. > :07:56.Watch this area of low pressure, it moves closer by lunchtime on

:07:56. > :08:00.Tuesday. On Wednesday, it has died into seven parts of Ireland, so

:08:00. > :08:04.brisk winds and we will see showers. Some sunshine in between but

:08:04. > :08:09.showers coming quite frequent. It will gradually cloud over so after

:08:09. > :08:14.a fine evening, and a warm one, it will cloud over and we will see by

:08:14. > :08:19.morning some light and patchy rain beginning to appear. Temperatures

:08:19. > :08:22.no lower than 14 degrees. A wet day tomorrow and showers becoming more

:08:22. > :08:26.persistent and then tending to move away gradually so by the end of the

:08:26. > :08:31.afternoon, the sunshine returns especially in the West towards

:08:31. > :08:36.Guernsey. Top temperatures of 19 degrees, although the winds will

:08:36. > :08:46.via south-westerly as we move into the evening. This is the coastal

:08:46. > :09:06.

:09:06. > :09:10.The surf will pick up this weekend, The forecast for Tuesday, Wednesday

:09:10. > :09:14.and Thursday is very unsettled. Probably on Wednesday, the showers

:09:14. > :09:19.will be isolated so for most of the day on Wednesday, bright and dry. A

:09:19. > :09:28.bit breezy but cooler. Frequent showers on Thursday and a similar

:09:28. > :09:31.picture moving towards the end of That is how the news and weather

:09:31. > :09:34.look in the Channel Islands this evening. We will leave you with a

:09:34. > :09:38.look back at the fantastic achievements of our sportsmen and

:09:39. > :09:48.women in last week's Island Games on the Isle of Wight. They came,

:09:49. > :10:18.

:10:18. > :10:22.they saw, and many of them We have got a young team and the

:10:22. > :10:27.standard is high but we will do our best. I am really looking forward

:10:27. > :10:32.to it. We will do well this year. cannot wait, the whole team are

:10:32. > :10:37.here. They atmosphere is amazing. It is a lot of fun to be hanging

:10:37. > :10:47.out with my old friends. And it is a great competition. For all the

:10:47. > :10:47.

:10:47. > :12:17.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 90 seconds

:12:17. > :12:27.teams, it is a celebration of Up and go to hereby formally

:12:27. > :13:00.

:13:00. > :13:04.declared the Island Games 14 open. Jersey's Chris Spence was dealt a

:13:04. > :13:08.cruel blow when he was involved in a five bikes smash. Chris broke his

:13:08. > :13:13.collarbone and had to go to A&E on with two other riders. After the

:13:13. > :13:23.race restarted, the men battled it out with Guernsey's Toby Morton

:13:23. > :13:33.

:13:33. > :13:40.eventually taking gold with a well- I was just using my head as much as

:13:40. > :13:43.possible. I did not plan to attack and it worked out all right and

:13:44. > :13:53.they caught a bit of a sneaky move just before a corner and managed to

:13:54. > :14:31.

:14:32. > :14:39.find a gap and finish so it was Feeling relaxed before her big race,

:14:39. > :14:45.Jersey runner Katie has come to this for one race only, the half

:14:45. > :14:52.marathon. And she has not come alone. On the sideline, her husband

:14:52. > :14:58.and daughters were cheering her on. It was good fun. You have to run

:14:58. > :15:04.around to catch up. She always likes the events here. We add a bit

:15:04. > :15:08.of a boost. A bit of screaming and shouting from the sidelines is

:15:08. > :15:14.always encouraging! And it was going so well for Katie until

:15:14. > :15:17.disaster struck. An old injury returned with a vengeance in have

:15:17. > :15:23.thought forcing her to pull out of the marathon. Unfortunately she had

:15:23. > :15:28.to pull out of the race, she has damaged her foot and has been taken

:15:28. > :15:33.off to hospital to find out what exactly is wrong with it. But she

:15:33. > :15:38.is very disappointed, obviously. She has been training for this all

:15:38. > :15:43.year. She is devastated, really. While Katie and her family made

:15:43. > :15:48.their way to hospital, Guernsey favourite secures gold in the men's

:15:48. > :15:51.half-marathon. The first one for the island. Guernsey were also

:15:51. > :15:58.awarded team gold but they were not the only tell islanders standing on

:15:58. > :16:02.the podium. Katie hobbled her way back to receive a team of silver.

:16:02. > :16:10.They were called up and they said where is your third member? And she

:16:10. > :16:15.said I was not able to complete because of the injury. And so I was

:16:15. > :16:21.called up. It has been a day of highs and lows for the athletes but

:16:21. > :16:29.it ended with a muddle and a smile. Winning badminton at this level

:16:45. > :16:50.15 years ago in time of Jersey's Island Games and he has even been

:16:50. > :16:55.ignited by the Guernsey's bailiff. It is ridiculous that we should

:16:55. > :17:00.spend such a lot of time with a knitted doll but anyway! He keeps

:17:00. > :17:05.us all together. He is always keeping a close eye on the progress

:17:05. > :17:09.of his players and has already cheered them on to a team gold. He

:17:09. > :17:16.has got his own Facebook Fan Page and some feel he is due for another

:17:16. > :17:24.title soon. He has got his own quotation here, signed by the

:17:24. > :17:30.Guernsey bailiff. There was talk of the bailiffs so we will see how it

:17:30. > :17:35.goes. He has been with us for two years. Some of you may think he is

:17:35. > :17:45.just a knitted doll but whatever you do, do not let Guernsey's

:20:32. > :20:37.then I can score and that helps. But I came here to meet people and

:20:37. > :20:41.gain experience. Guernsey started us off doing archery and they said

:20:41. > :20:51.two years ago, if you want to go to the Island Games, you can do it and

:20:51. > :20:59.

:20:59. > :21:05.we have achieved that so that is an Images which once again have

:21:05. > :21:10.brought shame on footballers. The great players goaded their Jersey

:21:10. > :21:16.opponents after taking the lead and then saw two players sent off, the

:21:16. > :21:21.second time in two days, but it was behaviour after the final whistle

:21:21. > :21:25.which appalled many. Today, the aftermath at a meeting of the

:21:25. > :21:31.Island Games executives, roads were sent out of the tournament and

:21:31. > :21:36.banned for the next two Island Games including 2015 in Jersey. The

:21:36. > :21:46.head of the roads Island Games demonstration has little defence

:21:53. > :21:59.game's, we started competing in 1999 and we had problems from that

:22:00. > :22:06.first participation so I think at least it was fair. For Jersey's

:22:06. > :22:16.team boss, relief for what amounts to a six-year ban. I can't lie, it

:22:16. > :22:17.

:22:17. > :22:21.is a big relief. We will meet again or we would have so a couple of

:22:21. > :22:24.years to do this decision is the best we have. The footballers of
