:00:53. > :00:57.the number of people seeking help over the last year. Anisha Shah
:00:57. > :01:01.reports. An unassuming Jersey building. But,
:01:01. > :01:05.for hundreds of young people, it offers a lifeline. This is the
:01:05. > :01:10.Youth Enquiry Service, known as Yes. It gives vulnerable youngsters
:01:10. > :01:18.advice and support. Today, new mum Zoe Morrison has dropped in. She
:01:18. > :01:23.comes for counselling and says it's invaluable. And four it is
:01:23. > :01:29.absolutely amazing, it really is. You get support, no judgment
:01:29. > :01:35.whatsoever. We have come in numerous times, going through a lot
:01:35. > :01:38.of stuff. They will see me. Even just for a chat. And Zoe's not the
:01:39. > :01:43.only one to drop in. Since the service was set up three years ago,
:01:43. > :01:48.a growing number of youngsters are coming here.
:01:48. > :01:53.We have seen a massive number of people coming into use the service
:01:53. > :01:58.ended 2 1/2 years we have been open. More people are experiencing
:01:58. > :02:05.problems such as emotional health issues, dealing with homelessness,
:02:05. > :02:08.unemployment, education issues. Because of the increasing demand,
:02:08. > :02:11.the Youth Enquiry Service has relaunched its website. It's hoped
:02:11. > :02:16.more young people can access the services remotely by simply logging
:02:16. > :02:19.on. And this is it. It's hoped this funkier, more interactive site will
:02:19. > :02:27.connect better with an internet savvy generation so that more
:02:27. > :02:31.troubled youngsters can benefit from it.
:02:31. > :02:35.A rare baby bird has been savaged and killed by a dog at L'Eree Bank
:02:35. > :02:37.in Guernsey, one of the island's most important nesting grounds.
:02:37. > :02:41.It's prompted the Environment Department to issue a fresh warning
:02:41. > :02:47.to dog owners to keep their animals under control. This report by Emma

:02:51. > :02:55.A haven for birds. An important nesting ground. But humans are
:02:55. > :03:01.taking their toll. This was a baby oystercatcher, four or five weeks
:03:01. > :03:08.old, before it died. Judy Down told me she saw it being savaged by
:03:08. > :03:11.someone else's dog. She's angry the animal wasn't on a lead. It had the
:03:11. > :03:15.oystercatcher chick in its mouth at that point and shook it violently
:03:15. > :03:19.from side to side. I shouted at the dog and it actually dropped the
:03:19. > :03:23.chick at that point, which flapped a couple of times on the ground.
:03:23. > :03:26.And unfortunately died. Experts say it was too young to have mastered
:03:26. > :03:31.the art of flying and would have been powerless to escape.
:03:31. > :03:34.Oystercatchers are wading birds. Not endangered, but rare on
:03:34. > :03:39.Guernsey's west coast. There's thought to be only ten nesting
:03:39. > :03:42.pairs in the island. It's an offence to kill or injure a wild
:03:42. > :03:46.bird. But getting a conviction can be difficult and conservationists
:03:46. > :03:51.say this kind of thing is happening all too often across the island.
:03:51. > :03:55.was clearly an accident. But an avoidable one. There are vulnerable
:03:55. > :04:01.birds in the area and signs highlighting that. We would ask dog
:04:01. > :04:05.walkers to remember that wildlife does need protecting. This site is
:04:05. > :04:11.internationally recognised for the precious wildlife it attracts. The
:04:11. > :04:13.Environment Department says dogs should not be walked here.
:04:13. > :04:16.Conservationists say three other breeding pairs have been
:04:16. > :04:24.unsuccessful, and this incident could have taken away the only
:04:24. > :04:28.chick to have fledged. Jersey Police are still looking for
:04:28. > :04:31.two young men, following an alleged assault on a five year old boy in
:04:31. > :04:34.Grands Vaux. The police are still patrolling the Nicholson Park area
:04:34. > :04:38.after the child said he was assaulted by the men on Tuesday
:04:38. > :04:41.afternoon. One of them may have been wearing a hat and the other
:04:41. > :04:44.wasn't wearing a shirt. They're asking any witnesses to come
:04:44. > :04:50.forward. Are there enough women in Guernsey
:04:50. > :04:53.politics? One former deputy doesn't think so, and wants to see a
:04:53. > :04:56.certain number of seats in the Island's government set aside for
:04:56. > :05:00.females. Penny Elderfield has this report.

:05:03. > :05:08.female politicians, including two who've made it to a minister
:05:08. > :05:12.position, the States is by no means a male only environment. But they
:05:12. > :05:16.are a little out numbered, and now it's being suggested a third of the
:05:16. > :05:19.seats should be reserved just for women candidates.
:05:19. > :05:23.You would gradually build up a corps of women that, in fact, in
:05:23. > :05:33.time, would show the electorate that women can do this job just as
:05:33. > :05:34.
:05:34. > :05:38.well as men. And show women voters they could do it just as well as
:05:38. > :05:45.any men. And in time, it would become more normal to see women
:05:45. > :05:49.sitting in the States, doing jobs in the States. There are many
:05:49. > :05:52.reasons why we may not get the number of women standing for the
:05:53. > :05:57.States that some would like to see. But is it really necessary to
:05:57. > :06:01.change way Guernsey elects its government to make it happen?
:06:01. > :06:06.should we make a rule to guarantee women will be elected? That is up
:06:06. > :06:09.to the people who are voting to put the person, be it a man or woman,
:06:09. > :06:12.they believe will represent them with honesty and integrity. With an
:06:12. > :06:15.election looming, it's unlikely the States would make any changes at
:06:15. > :06:24.this stage. But, if enough female candidates stand, there's nothing
:06:24. > :06:27.to stop the voters making that decision.
