:03:12. > :03:17.contempt of court, data protection and motoring offences upheld by the
:03:17. > :03:22.royal court. He had claimed that the evidence against him was not
:03:22. > :03:25.gathered fairly but the court today rejected that. But he was allowed
:03:25. > :03:30.to opt out of his 10-week prison term and instead will undertake 80
:03:30. > :03:32.hours of community service. Anisha Shah was in court.
:03:33. > :03:35.Jersey's former health minister was arrested and charged with breaching
:03:35. > :03:40.data protection laws two years ago, when he published personal
:03:40. > :03:46.information on his blog site. Syvret failed to appear before
:03:46. > :03:48.magistrates and fled to England. That meant he was charged with
:03:48. > :03:51.contempt of court. When he eventually returned to Jersey, he
:03:51. > :03:55.was convicted of all the charges and, because he refused community
:03:55. > :03:59.service, was sent to prison for ten weeks. He only served one night, as
:03:59. > :04:02.he appealed, saying the evidence was gathered unfairly. Today, the
:04:02. > :04:12.judge, Sir Christopher Pitchers, rejected that appeal but said the

:04:16. > :04:19.police could have done some things differently. Mr Syvret today opted
:04:19. > :04:21.out of prison, choosing instead to do the 80 hours of community
:04:21. > :04:24.service. His fines were also reduced, given his financial
