:00:09. > :00:14.Good evening and welcome to the BBC in the Channel Islands. Here are

:00:14. > :00:18.the top stories tonight: The police enquiry into Sunday's stabbings

:00:18. > :00:23.continues as the last victims are removed from the former family home

:00:23. > :00:31.in St Helier. Plus friends talk about their shock that this once

:00:31. > :00:39.Apart so violently. He was a calm, quiet guy and I never saw him lose

:00:39. > :00:49.his temper. I know he loved his children. And in Guernsey we take a

:00:49. > :00:58.

:00:58. > :01:02.look at the proposals to increase Good evening. The last two victims'

:01:02. > :01:07.bodies of Sunday's multiple stabbings have been removed from

:01:07. > :01:11.the building today. Meanwhile, the main suspect, the man suspected of

:01:11. > :01:15.stabbing six people to death, has been named locally. He is being

:01:15. > :01:19.treated in hospital where he is under arrest and under armed guard.

:01:19. > :01:23.Mike Wilkins reports on an island trying to come to terms with the

:01:23. > :01:27.shocking events. Two days after they were stabbed to

:01:27. > :01:31.death some of the bodies were removed from the apartment. It came

:01:31. > :01:36.as a surprise to many who had assumed it had happened days ago.

:01:36. > :01:40.As each painful day passes a clearer picture is emerging of what

:01:40. > :01:45.actually happened and the human cost. This is a tender glimpse of

:01:45. > :01:49.what appeared to be the perfect family. But this union of Lubbock

:01:49. > :01:52.was to be brutally destroyed at the end of a knife. The police are

:01:52. > :01:58.still waiting to question the man they suspect of stabbing to death

:01:58. > :02:01.the six people. The 30 year-old Polish man has been named locally

:02:01. > :02:05.as Damian Rzeszowski. His wife Izabella and their daughter and

:02:05. > :02:11.their toddler were among those killed, along with his father in

:02:11. > :02:16.law. One of Izabella's best friends, Marta De La Haye and her five-year-

:02:16. > :02:21.old daughter Julia were also killed. Dominika was a friend and she says

:02:21. > :02:25.she cannot believe that children are gone. I looked at the pictures

:02:25. > :02:32.of those children because I knew them. I knew her little boy because

:02:32. > :02:38.he was the same age as my boy and I knew the daughter as well. They

:02:38. > :02:46.were like children, they are innocent. They were little angels

:02:46. > :02:50.they bring a shine to your home. It is just... I am just horrified.

:02:50. > :02:54.Meanwhile reports that Izabella was pregnant by another man have been

:02:54. > :02:58.ruled out by Jersey police following her post mortem. The

:02:58. > :03:08.police chief has been reassuring islanders and signing a book of

:03:08. > :03:10.

:03:10. > :03:14.condolence. Going back over my career of 31 years, there was an

:03:14. > :03:19.extreme murder case several years ago, but it is a very unusual event

:03:19. > :03:24.on Jersey. Jersey is a wounded community and this holiday island

:03:24. > :03:28.will never quite be the same. As details emerge about the

:03:28. > :03:32.families involved, the island is trying to come to terms with the

:03:32. > :03:42.events. A special Mass has been held in Polish for the deeply

:03:42. > :03:52.affected community. In troubled times Polish people

:03:52. > :03:56.have been turning to their fate for comfort. Words to ease the pain can

:03:56. > :04:02.only go so far as people look on searching for answers. The Catholic

:04:02. > :04:06.Church of Our Lady in St Martin has put on a special Polish mass to

:04:06. > :04:10.commemorate the mothers, children and grand parent who lost their

:04:10. > :04:14.lives in the brittle knife attacks in St Helier. It is hoped a few

:04:14. > :04:21.moments of song and prayer will help the horrors to start to sink

:04:21. > :04:26.in and to enable the Community to begin to grieve. But for many it is

:04:26. > :04:31.all just too much as words and Hames contrast to the stark

:04:31. > :04:37.brutality so extraordinary on a small island communities such as

:04:37. > :04:42.Jersey. I am very sad and I want to tell all the Polish people my hard

:04:42. > :04:50.and my soul are with them. They it is not enough to say it is very sad

:04:50. > :04:56.because I do not understand it at all, what happened and why? Making

:04:56. > :05:00.sense of the events may come later as more details emerge. For now a

:05:00. > :05:07.tight-knit community remains closer than ever, paying respect and

:05:07. > :05:12.tributes to those who are no longer with us.

:05:12. > :05:17.Mike Wilkins is in the studio. As was mentioned, it is a very

:05:17. > :05:21.difficult time before the community. As you can imagine as the police

:05:21. > :05:25.are continuing with their house-to- house enquiries, supporting the

:05:25. > :05:30.forensic teams, the public could be feeling and wrestling with all

:05:30. > :05:33.kinds of emotions at the moment. The health and social services

:05:33. > :05:37.department has set up a dedicated counselling helpline and the

:05:37. > :05:40.Samaritans have also offered their support. Earlier we spoke to one of

:05:40. > :05:46.the island's consultant psychologists. He said people

:05:46. > :05:50.should not be feeling alone with their thoughts at the moment.

:05:50. > :05:55.get a whole range of different reactions. Whatever you are going

:05:55. > :05:59.through his normal. For some people they might have no reaction, for

:05:59. > :06:03.other people they might not be sleeping, they are distressed and

:06:03. > :06:09.upset. The important message is that is a normal process and they

:06:09. > :06:14.should not be worried about it. we have any ideas when the suspect

:06:14. > :06:17.might be question? The doctors have told the police it could be weeks

:06:17. > :06:22.before Damian Rzeszowski will be well enough to face questioning.

:06:22. > :06:26.Meanwhile, the Polish consul will be coming to Jersey on Thursday.

:06:26. > :06:32.Monika Panasiuk will be meeting the authorities and offering support to

:06:32. > :06:37.some people who may be feeling confused, upset and angry. The mike,

:06:37. > :06:42.thank you very much. Turning now to other news today and

:06:42. > :06:45.three men have appeared in court accused of rape in Guernsey. The

:06:45. > :06:51.incident is said to have occurred at a private residence on the

:06:51. > :06:56.island on Sunday morning. The men, aged 27, 29th and 39, are accused

:06:56. > :06:59.of unlawful sexual intercourse with a woman in her twenties. Two of the

:06:59. > :07:04.men face charges of indecent assault and one is accused of

:07:04. > :07:09.attempted rape. All three have remanded -- been remanded in

:07:09. > :07:13.custody. The man who was in charge of Jersey

:07:13. > :07:16.police or part of the island's historic abuse investigation was

:07:16. > :07:20.questioned by a Scrutiny Panel today. David Warcup believes a

:07:20. > :07:24.recent report into financial management of the investigation

:07:24. > :07:28.lacks objectivity. There review hopes to establish whether senior

:07:28. > :07:32.investigating officer, Lenny harbour, was not involved in the

:07:32. > :07:37.report into the financial planning of the investigation. The panel say

:07:37. > :07:41.they are starting to get answers. As you enter be different witnesses

:07:41. > :07:45.you get another piece of the picture. You have to reconcile with

:07:45. > :07:50.what they say to people who have spoken to as previously, or with

:07:50. > :07:55.written evidence. It does not fall into place like a jigsaw puzzle.

:07:55. > :08:00.There are some jarring edges to the different pieces of evidence.

:08:00. > :08:04.Parents in Guernsey could be allowed up to six months' maternity

:08:04. > :08:09.leave if the findings of a new report accepted. The UK allows up

:08:09. > :08:14.to one year's leave, but the report says what they have come up with

:08:14. > :08:18.for Guernsey is a sensible compromise.

:08:18. > :08:23.Angelica wants a little brother or sister. But her mum cannot afford

:08:23. > :08:28.the cost or the time off work. have to be responsible for that

:08:28. > :08:33.child and the bonding of the child as well. If you put them in a

:08:33. > :08:38.nursery, you do not get that precious time with them. If I have

:08:38. > :08:43.another child, I want to bond with them. At the moment Guernsey women

:08:43. > :08:48.have no legal right to burn -- maternity leave, but the

:08:48. > :08:53.consultation document has a list of benefits that may be introduced. It

:08:53. > :09:00.includes increasing maternity allowance to 180 a week.

:09:00. > :09:04.They could get as much as six months off. I do not they -- think

:09:04. > :09:09.they should have it as a right, but nobody should be forced back to

:09:09. > :09:13.work. I think it will put a lot of young people out of work.

:09:13. > :09:17.Definitely. The rest of the world has some sort of scheme in place

:09:17. > :09:23.and the fact Guernsey does not put it behind the times. Hunter Adam

:09:23. > :09:31.told me changes are necessary. Guernsey thought they should be

:09:31. > :09:35.part of the UN Convention for equality and lack of discrimination

:09:35. > :09:41.against women. Part of that is when women are pregnant and maternity

:09:41. > :09:47.benefits. The consultation finishes at the end of September. For

:09:47. > :09:57.Angelica her wishes for a brother or sister may take a bit longer.

:09:57. > :09:57.

:09:57. > :10:01.The weather is a little unsettled across the Channel Islands. We may

:10:01. > :10:06.have some dry, bright and warm weather tomorrow, then all change

:10:06. > :10:11.again as we see some cloud on Thursday. The reason, this area of

:10:11. > :10:16.low pressure and this is strung out through the Channel. That will be a

:10:16. > :10:21.problem over the next few days. Overnight and tonight it moves to

:10:21. > :10:27.the north, which brings us warm air and sunshine. But on Thursday it

:10:27. > :10:33.drops back down again and it will bring us some patchy rain. It is so

:10:33. > :10:37.close by, I do not think things are going to change particularly fast.

:10:37. > :10:42.Some mist forming overnight and towards daunt you may get some fog

:10:42. > :10:46.patches forming. Tamara is the mystique and Gray's dark, but it

:10:46. > :10:51.will brighten up and the sunshine will come through that cloud. In

:10:51. > :10:59.the afternoon there is some sunshine to enjoy as well. It is

:10:59. > :11:09.quite humid air. The coastal waters forecast has the winds easterly for

:11:09. > :11:09.

:11:09. > :11:19.tomorrow. The visibility improves as the mist and fog move out of the

:11:19. > :11:22.

:11:22. > :11:26.way. Most of our surfing beaches will be relatively quiet. The

:11:26. > :11:30.forecast for Thursday is rather cloudy with a risk of some patchy

:11:30. > :11:35.rain. On Friday the weather front moves out of the way so that it

:11:35. > :11:39.brightens and we should see some sunshine for much of the day. All

:11:39. > :11:43.those Saturday is warm and dry, there is a possibility of a few

:11:43. > :11:53.showers turning up, particularly later in the day and into the early

:11:53. > :12:00.
