:00:08. > :00:17.Three days on from the tragedy in St Helier, what impact has it had

:00:17. > :00:27.on those who knew the families? Plus, getting a facelift - Jersey's

:00:27. > :00:39.

:00:39. > :00:49.Airport arrivals hall is about to Joined me for all the fun and

:00:49. > :00:52.

:00:52. > :00:56.frolics at the West Show in It has been three days since Jersey

:00:56. > :00:59.was stunned by an horrific knife attack. Six people were stabbed to

:00:59. > :01:02.death in St Helier on Sunday afternoon. A 30-year-old Polish man

:01:02. > :01:07.has been arrested and remains under armed guard as he recovers in

:01:07. > :01:10.hospital. Three children were among those killed and, as Mike Wilkins,

:01:10. > :01:16.reports, some in the island are struggling to cope with their

:01:16. > :01:20.deaths. The gentle sound of children

:01:20. > :01:27.playing, a sound of care-free joy, but for the staff here the last few

:01:27. > :01:29.days have been filled with nothing but misery and disbelief. Two of

:01:30. > :01:34.the children who were killed on Sunday afternoon attended this

:01:34. > :01:37.after-school club. Six-year-old Kinga, the daughter of Damian and

:01:37. > :01:40.Izabela, and five-year-old Julia, the daughter of Marta de la Haye,

:01:40. > :01:46.were popular, well-loved pupils who will be sorely missed. Jane Moy

:01:46. > :01:52.knew them both and says they were lovely children. Beautiful. Both of

:01:52. > :01:55.them just beautiful children, from beautiful families. I am in

:01:55. > :01:58.disbelief that it has happened. children realise something bad has

:01:58. > :02:06.happened, so much so that some have been asking disturbing questions

:02:06. > :02:13.themselves. We did have one child to ask is my daddy going to kill

:02:13. > :02:17.me? It is the kind of question were you just reassure them that this is

:02:17. > :02:19.an extreme circumstance and their safe here. More details are

:02:19. > :02:22.emerging about the events running up to the brutal stabbing. 30-year-

:02:22. > :02:25.old Damian Rzeszowski worked in construction. He had taken his

:02:25. > :02:28.family back to Poland recently and were staying at this apartment

:02:28. > :02:35.before heading back to Jersey. People who knew them said they were

:02:35. > :02:40.surprised to hear about the horrific attack. TRANSLATION: I saw

:02:40. > :02:47.them just a few days ago and they seemed a normal, happy family. This

:02:47. > :02:57.was never expected. Staff and everyone would just totally shocked

:02:57. > :03:07.

:03:07. > :03:12.and dismayed. It is terrible. And sorry, I'd just.... Sorry. It has

:03:12. > :03:18.hit your cells very hard, and the island. I don't think most people

:03:18. > :03:22.here can do except that it has happened. Everyone considers Jersey

:03:22. > :03:29.as one of the safest places in the world's. You would never dream of

:03:29. > :03:32.something like that happening here. We're just in total disbelief.

:03:32. > :03:35.as the days pass and the police continue their investigation, there

:03:35. > :03:38.are still plenty in the community who are stunned by what's happened.

:03:38. > :03:48.Many are now waiting for the day when this man has recovered to help

:03:48. > :03:58.

:03:58. > :04:03.Flights from Alderney to Southampton are set to be reduced.

:04:03. > :04:06.Aurigny are scaling back services by 9%. Airline bosses say it is one

:04:06. > :04:09.of the most expensive routes to run and, instead, more flights between

:04:09. > :04:19.the island and Guernsey will be on offer to help people connect with

:04:19. > :04:24.

:04:24. > :04:27.other Aurigny services to more UK Now, it has been up for around 30

:04:27. > :04:30.years, but soon will be torn down. The 1970s additions to what is now

:04:30. > :04:33.the Jersey Airport arrivals hall will be demolished to restore the

:04:33. > :04:36.building to its original glory. It is costing over 1 million and

:04:36. > :04:38.today Chris Harrison went for a look behind the scenes before work

:04:38. > :04:41.begins. It has certainly seen better days.

:04:41. > :04:44.This part of Jersey Airport will soon be consigned to history. And

:04:44. > :04:48.this is what it look liked decades ago and, for fans of the 1970's

:04:48. > :04:51.building, it is set to be returned to its former glory with all of the

:04:51. > :04:59.later additions and old control tower torn down. Richard Cheal is

:04:59. > :05:05.the project manager. We plan to start work at the end of this month.

:05:05. > :05:12.We will go on until the end of next June and you will see scaffolding

:05:12. > :05:17.being erected over the next six weeks. And this is what airport

:05:17. > :05:21.bosses think the 1930's terminal will look like after the spruce up.

:05:21. > :05:27.We will see these unsightly additions removed, and you will see

:05:27. > :05:37.pretty much the original building. This building is beyond economic

:05:37. > :05:37.

:05:37. > :05:42.repair. It takes a lot of money to keep it up you want year. - - keep

:05:42. > :05:45.it up, year on year. Works are set to start in early October and for

:05:45. > :05:48.many it will be a little bit of history repeating when work is done

:05:48. > :05:51.next year. The cost of parking at Jersey

:05:51. > :05:55.Airport is set to rise from the beginning of next month. People who

:05:55. > :05:58.park in the short stay car park next to arrivals will see it go up

:05:58. > :06:01.by 10 pence per half-hour, from 60 pence to 70. The long stay car park

:06:01. > :06:04.will also go up from 60 to 70 pence an hour.

:06:04. > :06:07.One Channel Islander is hoping his luck will change to become an

:06:07. > :06:10.Olympic medallist at the London 2012 games. But, first, he needs a

:06:10. > :06:12.top eight placing in the European Dressage Championships that have

:06:13. > :06:16.started today in the Netherlands. Carl Hester, from Sark, and his

:06:16. > :06:19.horse, Uthopia, need a high ranking at the Euros to set them up for the

:06:19. > :06:27.Olympics, so there's no horse-play for this duo as the BBC's Anisha

:06:27. > :06:32.Shah learned at his stables in Gloucester.

:06:32. > :06:39.Sanderling up for dressage. The car has been to three Olympics, but

:06:39. > :06:43.never won a medal. He hopes to change that next year. It'll be

:06:43. > :06:48.retirement! That is the obvious time for me to think about handing

:06:48. > :06:53.the reins over to somebody else. I love training, so there will be my

:06:53. > :06:58.next option. Dressage relies just as much on the horse. It is all

:06:59. > :07:06.about working together. It is gymnastics for horses. You will see

:07:06. > :07:13.the amount of work that they have to do. Crossing over of their legs,

:07:13. > :07:20.big steep have passes, the trotting on the spot. That takes years for

:07:20. > :07:25.them to have the muscles to do that. The rider has to be seen to be

:07:25. > :07:30.guiding the horse with no effort at all. Those people back into it with

:07:30. > :07:39.extra expression and flair and make it look easy, that is when you can

:07:39. > :07:44.start to score eight, nine or 10 and get into the medals. He will be

:07:44. > :07:49.riding his horse in the champions - - championships next month in a

:07:49. > :07:56.warm-up to the Games. Obviously, now Michael is to get a mental in

:07:56. > :08:05.London. He is set for 2012. The team has qualified, so the focus

:08:05. > :08:11.now is galloping through the competition's next June. Before the

:08:11. > :08:15.Beijing Olympics his horse was injured, so the focus now is on

:08:15. > :08:17.keeping the horse fit. Next, is West really best? Well,

:08:17. > :08:20.people at L'eree in Guernsey certainly think so. Today saw the

:08:20. > :08:24.first day of the West Show. Thousands are expected to go along

:08:24. > :08:27.to experience it over the next couple of days and we sent Emma

:08:27. > :08:30.Thomas to soak up all the action. It is a highlight in the island's

:08:30. > :08:34.calendar, showcasing the best of rural life. Coming here, you can't

:08:34. > :08:38.help but feel nostalgic for a simpler way of life. Thousands of

:08:38. > :08:41.people will come to the show over the next couple of days all hoping

:08:41. > :08:45.to get a taste of it. First up, the cattle judging competition. There

:08:45. > :08:49.are nearly 130 animals here. Judge Jason Hamon says it is a healthy

:08:49. > :08:52.number and a good sign for the farming industry. I think it is

:08:52. > :08:58.alive and kicking. Things always get larger each year, which is good

:08:58. > :09:02.to know. Local smallholders are doing their bit now and there is a

:09:02. > :09:05.lot more smallholders than what there used to be. But it wasn't

:09:05. > :09:14.just about agriculture. There were stalls galore and something for the

:09:14. > :09:20.thrill-seekers, as well as the chill-seekers. I like looking at

:09:20. > :09:25.the animals. It isn't nice provincial Country Show, isn't it?

:09:25. > :09:28.We had the children here on holiday. Organisers say the turnout has been

:09:28. > :09:38.good today and that they expect even more people to come and join

:09:38. > :09:40.

:09:40. > :09:45.But, will it stay sunny? Good evening, a lot of dry weather over

:09:45. > :09:48.the next few days and into the weekend, but it is not completely

:09:48. > :09:52.straightforward. At the moment there is a weather front to the

:09:52. > :09:58.north and that will slowly edge its way towards us by lunchtime

:09:58. > :10:03.tomorrow. So, there is the risk of a few spots of patchy rain.

:10:03. > :10:07.Generally, it should stay dry. By lunchtime on Friday we had this

:10:07. > :10:11.ridge of high pressure building right the way across, so keeping

:10:11. > :10:15.things fine and settled. All for nine tonight it is generally

:10:15. > :10:20.looking dry. We will see a few spots of rain, most likely in the

:10:20. > :10:25.North. It will be a fairly mild and perhaps Monday-night with

:10:25. > :10:30.temperatures no law Thant 14 degrees. We start the day tomorrow

:10:30. > :10:33.with a fair amount of cloud and there is it - - do risk of a few

:10:33. > :10:39.spots of rain in the north, but we could see a little bit of

:10:39. > :10:45.brightness, particularly in the afternoon in Jersey. It will feel

:10:45. > :10:55.reasonably warm in bright and sunny spells at 22 degrees. Here is the

:10:55. > :11:18.

:11:18. > :11:23.forecast for the Channel Islands Shea is the outlook for the rest of

:11:23. > :11:27.the week and into the weekend. As the ridge of high pressure built

:11:27. > :11:31.across a some Friday, it should be fine and dry. Temperatures around

:11:31. > :11:35.20 Celsius, but it will warm-up for the weekend when it will be

:11:35. > :11:45.generally fine and dry, but with the outside chance of a thundery

:11:45. > :11:51.
