:00:12. > :00:16.That evening. -- good evening. The campaigns begin - over 100 people

:00:16. > :00:19.want your vote to join Jersey States.

:00:19. > :00:23.Also tonight, beware what you look for. Adopted children warned not to

:00:23. > :00:33.trace family online. And mass disappointment across the

:00:33. > :00:40.

:00:40. > :00:45.Channel Islands, as the air Candidates for Jersey's first

:00:45. > :00:47.General Election have started their campaigns today. Last night saw

:00:47. > :00:49.nomination meetings for Constables and Deputies following on from

:00:49. > :00:51.Tuesday's Senatorial announcements. Eleven politicians, mostly

:00:51. > :00:53.Constables, were returned unopposed at Wednesday's nominations meeting,

:00:53. > :00:56.including Constable Simon Crowcroft of St Helier, who will start his

:00:56. > :01:05.fifth term unopposed, the first time this has happened in around

:01:05. > :01:07.100 years. Deputies Eddie Noel, John Le Fondre and Anne Pryke are

:01:07. > :01:15.being returned to the States because nobody stood against them.

:01:15. > :01:18.Elsewhere, 82 candidates will stand for the remaining 34 seats. They

:01:18. > :01:20.join the 13 people vying for the four senatorial seats. Gwyn

:01:20. > :01:29.Garfield-Bennett reports from one Parish, where there's an election

:01:29. > :01:32.for Constable for the first time in 108 years.

:01:32. > :01:35.A busy night at parish halls across the island, but none more so than

:01:35. > :01:38.here at St Ouen, where locals turned out to hear the nominations

:01:38. > :01:46.for Constable and Deputy. Sitting Constable Ken Vibert is retiring

:01:46. > :01:54.from politics, he says it's the right time to leave. I believe that

:01:54. > :01:58.I have done my share. I was first selected here in 1967, so it is

:01:58. > :02:00.time to step back and let somebody else take the reins. Two candidates

:02:00. > :02:04.are competing for the role of Constable, Richard Renouf and

:02:04. > :02:07.Michael John Paddock. It's also the first time in a while that the post

:02:07. > :02:10.of Deputy has been contested. The current incumbent is Minister for

:02:10. > :02:14.Education James Reed. He's being opposed by Chris Lamy, Alan Le

:02:14. > :02:17.Quesne and Cliff Le Clerq. Islanders will go to the polls on

:02:17. > :02:27.October 19th. You can see a full list of all the candidates for

:02:27. > :02:30.

:02:30. > :02:34.Senator, Deputy and Constable on The man who runs Jersey States'

:02:34. > :02:37.property portfolio is leaving the role after four years. David

:02:37. > :02:40.Flowers was involved in the Lime Grove negotiations - which saw the

:02:40. > :02:43.States lose out on a deal moving the police station to the Green

:02:43. > :02:46.Street Roundabout. The Home Affairs Minister said the failure to buy

:02:46. > :02:55.Lime Grove House would cost the public 8 million. Mr Flowers will

:02:55. > :02:58.be giving evidence at a public meeting about the matter tomorrow.

:02:58. > :03:00.For an adopted child, looking for their birth parents later in life

:03:01. > :03:03.can be daunting. But searching through social media isn't the

:03:04. > :03:07.answer - and could be dangerous - according to Jersey's Adoption &

:03:07. > :03:17.Fostering Service. One Jersey man who searched for his family told

:03:17. > :03:22.Anisha Shah his story. Rikki was adopted in the first two years of

:03:22. > :03:26.his life. Having grown up in a happy home, it was not until later

:03:27. > :03:32.that he questioned his heritage. A lengthy and complex search followed

:03:32. > :03:38.to find his birth parents. I had thought about one side, my African

:03:38. > :03:42.side, I knew I had a Nigerian father. I was sat outside the

:03:42. > :03:46.Nigerian embassy going to work in London while I was at the time and

:03:46. > :03:49.I thought, where would I even start?

:03:49. > :03:59.He enlisted the expertise of a professional service who act as

:03:59. > :04:01.

:04:01. > :04:07.intermediaries. He contacted his mother and found out about the

:04:07. > :04:11.death of his father. Travelling out to a village, about 6,000 people,

:04:11. > :04:15.to the original family home where my father was brought up and

:04:15. > :04:20.standing in the doorway, that moment was quite a satisfying

:04:20. > :04:27.thought. But not everybody follows professional advice. When emotions

:04:27. > :04:33.run high, it is easier than ever to begin the turning to the social

:04:34. > :04:37.networking sites to start searching. If I enter my name into this site,

:04:37. > :04:39.100 or so people with the same or similar names come up. Trying to

:04:39. > :04:42.contact complete strangers strays into potentially dangerous ground,

:04:42. > :04:46.which the Jersey Adoption Service is warning against. It does bypass

:04:46. > :04:50.the support and safeguards in place for children and we recommend that

:04:50. > :04:55.for adoptive parents, they need to speak to their children, they need

:04:55. > :05:01.to have an open dialogue. And it is essential they are open about their

:05:01. > :05:04.history and identity. Ricky's search led him to a half brother

:05:04. > :05:14.with whom he is close, but he says the internet is not the week to a

:05:14. > :05:22.happy ending. -- the route to. Coming up, our weather man explores

:05:22. > :05:25.the history of the region's water supplies.

:05:26. > :05:29.It was all eyes skywards in the Channel Islands today, as the

:05:29. > :05:32.Battle of Britain Air Display came to town, but it wasn't quite as

:05:32. > :05:35.simple as that. Low cloud, mist and rain hampered the shows, causing

:05:35. > :05:38.the display - including the much- loved Red Arrows - to be abandoned.

:05:39. > :05:41.In a moment, Amy Harris reports on whether the skies shone in Jersey,

:05:41. > :05:43.but first, Edward Sault reports from Guernsey, where the umbrellas

:05:43. > :05:46.were up and the skies were left silent.

:05:46. > :05:49.OK, so this wasn't the way I'd intended to start this TV report,

:05:49. > :05:53.but instead of shots of aeroplanes roaring through the sky, this is

:05:53. > :06:01.what we ended up with. But people turned out regardless, armed with

:06:01. > :06:05.newspapers, chairs and then their umbrellas. Obviously, it is very

:06:05. > :06:10.disappointing because so much work goes into it. But as they are

:06:10. > :06:18.starting up, we might get something. You are all wearing red, is that

:06:18. > :06:24.for the Red Arrows? Certainly, we do as much for the Red Arrows as we

:06:24. > :06:32.can. Had our look changed as the back -- as the black hats flew over

:06:33. > :06:36.Guernsey? Sadly not. It is overcast and it has just gone up 12 o'clock

:06:36. > :06:42.and the Red Arrows will not make an appearance this year in Guernsey,

:06:42. > :06:46.leaving many disappointed. We saw fly-by his bike RAF helicopters but

:06:46. > :06:51.that was the only thing we saw. are both in red for the Red Arrows

:06:51. > :06:56.but we will not see them today, how do you feel? It is a terrible shame

:06:56. > :07:06.but that is how it goes. Are you looking forward to seeing them, you

:07:06. > :07:06.

:07:06. > :07:09.have a red hat on? Yes. But away from the disappointment, there were

:07:09. > :07:11.some smiles. Guernsey's own 201 Squadron was disbanded in May as a

:07:11. > :07:15.result of the cuts to the UK government's defence budget but

:07:15. > :07:17.today, two of them were back. people he loved the squadron and it

:07:17. > :07:20.is a fantastic relationship and it is important to look after that

:07:20. > :07:26.relationship while people are wondering what will happen to their

:07:26. > :07:30.lives. And for those in the RAF charity kiosk, the bad weather did

:07:30. > :07:35.not hamper and generosity. It is all about raising money for the

:07:35. > :07:44.unfortunate people who have fallen on hard times within the RAF

:07:45. > :07:54.Association. The RAF were eagerly - - the Red Arrows were eagerly

:07:55. > :07:55.

:07:55. > :08:00.awaited today, but instead of red, white and blue, it was grey, damp

:08:00. > :08:05.and wet. Or they could do here was wait. But while the weather was wet,

:08:05. > :08:09.the mood was sunny. We booked flight in April and have been

:08:09. > :08:14.looking forward to it for months. It is a shame it is raining but we

:08:14. > :08:18.are still having fun and it is better than being at work! It is a

:08:18. > :08:24.shame because everybody comes to see it and it is a big organised

:08:24. > :08:29.event, part of the year. It happens, at you cannot blame the weather. It

:08:29. > :08:39.is a good turnout regardless, it is a shame. Rain did not dampen

:08:39. > :08:48.

:08:49. > :08:54.spirits, with many smiles despite In the end, no planes took to the

:08:54. > :08:58.skies, but the Red Arrows pleased the crowds on the ground where a

:08:58. > :09:03.pilot's map their fans and some little doubles. Worryingly, some of

:09:03. > :09:07.the same rank as me already. They are only seven and I am 34, but

:09:07. > :09:12.they are doing very well. But it is great to see because I remember

:09:12. > :09:17.being that age and seeing its the Red Arrows fly. So as much as we

:09:18. > :09:23.come back and meet the children is a nice part of this job. As the

:09:23. > :09:28.rain kept coming, people began a leaving. But some sat tight and

:09:28. > :09:33.hoped for the best. But soon after with a wet weather showing no sign

:09:33. > :09:38.of subsiding, organisers had to call the whole thing Gogh, leaving

:09:38. > :09:43.Ireland has no choice but to squelch home -- whole thing off.

:09:43. > :09:52.The weather certainly rained on our parade today. What will tomorrow

:09:52. > :09:56.Good evening, we could have trouble problems with mist and fog causing

:09:56. > :09:59.trouble overnight tonight and at first tomorrow morning, so

:10:00. > :10:06.travellers early tomorrow could find Flight's delayed because there

:10:06. > :10:11.could be fog around first thing. It will brighten up and improve. These

:10:11. > :10:15.two weather fronts will introduce moist and misty air coming from

:10:15. > :10:20.South which will mean low cloud this evening. Close to the sea

:10:20. > :10:25.surface by the end of the night. This is lunchtime on Friday. High

:10:25. > :10:30.pressure over the continent so warm weather on the way. And sunshine

:10:30. > :10:35.will breakthrough. By Saturday, an active weather system will sweep

:10:35. > :10:40.through. And Saturday is the start of windy conditions and the weekend,

:10:40. > :10:45.particularly on Sunday and Monday. This evening and overnight, drizzle

:10:45. > :10:50.and low cloud, becoming misty and foggy by dawn. Overnight

:10:50. > :10:55.temperatures as low as 15 degrees. Tomorrow, Amnesty and grey, with

:10:56. > :11:03.some fog through the morning. -- misty. The cloud will lift and the

:11:03. > :11:12.sunshine will breakthrough, temperatures up to 21 degrees. That

:11:12. > :11:21.is the coastal welters forecast... -- waters. The miss -- the risk of

:11:21. > :11:30.some sea fog. And some quite good surfing conditions. A gentle breeze

:11:30. > :11:36.from the South stomach --.. And Queen for most of the beaches.

:11:36. > :11:46.Wayne on Saturday, clearing in the afternoon -- rain. Windy and damp

:11:46. > :11:47.
