:00:13. > :00:19.Good evening. Coming up: Fog-bound and stranded - airports struggle to
:00:19. > :00:22.house hundreds of passengers. And why this building has caused a
:00:23. > :00:27.row at the heart of government and the resignation of a top civil
:00:27. > :00:37.servant. And Proms on the cheap - how you
:00:37. > :00:42.
:00:42. > :00:47.can see a world-class orchestra for Hundreds of passengers have been
:00:47. > :00:52.left stranded at Charline at -- Channel Island airports because of
:00:52. > :00:55.extensive fog and bad weather. Bosses in Guernsey and Jersey
:00:55. > :00:59.issued an urgent appeal to help house those passengers whose
:00:59. > :01:09.flights had been cancelled. This morning the fox showed no sign of
:01:09. > :01:13.
:01:13. > :01:17.disappearing. -- the fog. Friday lunchtime at
:01:17. > :01:24.Guernsey airport. As passengers tried to look -- to rebook, many
:01:24. > :01:27.were left wondering us airplanes stayed on the tarmac. With no
:01:27. > :01:35.flights in a road, hundreds were Stan -- stranded with nowhere to
:01:35. > :01:40.stay. My hips are bad. People are just coming past. It has been a
:01:40. > :01:43.very busy week for the island. Where we would normally have some
:01:43. > :01:47.capacity, we were struggling to get that.
:01:47. > :01:53.The fog beat Jersey, too. Flights here were grounded and passengers
:01:53. > :01:59.were stuck. We were booked on the ten o'clock flight to Gatwick to
:01:59. > :02:04.joined a package holiday that was leaving at 4pm. It looks like we
:02:04. > :02:12.are going to lose our package holiday. We will get our money back
:02:12. > :02:18.from the insurance. Bosses at Jersey airport had to appeal for
:02:18. > :02:21.help with many who had come for the washed out here shows. We are
:02:21. > :02:30.grateful to the people who helped us out with accommodation last
:02:30. > :02:36.night. Tonight there is still a potential problem, so we really
:02:37. > :02:40.would like people to help us again by offering accommodation.
:02:40. > :02:45.One flight did manage to get in when we were at Guernsey Airport
:02:45. > :02:53.this lunchtime, but for others it was still waiting game. People are
:02:53. > :02:57.still arriving here to check-in for their flights. We're being told
:02:57. > :03:00.that the fox should lift, but airports a sip -- insisting that,
:03:01. > :03:07.if it does not, contingency plans are in place to ensure that
:03:07. > :03:11.passengers are not left stranded. The former head of Jersey Property
:03:11. > :03:15.Holdings has criticised jersey's Treasury minister over the failed
:03:15. > :03:19.bid for a new police station site. David Flowers said the minister
:03:19. > :03:24.took a foolish gamble and lost. Mr Flowers resigned this week and gave
:03:24. > :03:30.evidence today to a scrutiny investigation into the States'
:03:30. > :03:35.failure to buy Lime Grove House. Our correspondent was at the
:03:35. > :03:38.hearing. What is Lime Grove House and where is it? It is a big office
:03:38. > :03:43.building on the Green Street roundabout. It was built ten years
:03:43. > :03:49.ago. Jersey's, affairs department wanted to buy it corroborate
:03:49. > :03:54.million pounds to use as a new police station. They thought they
:03:54. > :04:02.had secured a deal but they found out that a finance company had be
:04:02. > :04:09.done to it. There is now a scrutiny investigation to find out why.
:04:09. > :04:12.There has been a review of the purchase of Lime Grove House and
:04:12. > :04:15.exactly what went wrong. It was announced in the States that it was
:04:15. > :04:21.going ahead and then suddenly it wasn't, so we felt that we should,
:04:21. > :04:31.perhaps, be looking at it. Senator Ferguson and her team today heard
:04:31. > :04:31.
:04:31. > :04:38.from David Flowers. He said they made an offer for the building at
:04:38. > :04:43.8.75 million. Then he said that Philip Ozuof Cup that offered by a
:04:43. > :04:47.500,000, before the deal fell apart. He told the panel that
:04:47. > :04:54.Philip Ozuof was badly advised and that he had made a foolish gamble
:04:54. > :04:59.and loss. He said that the loss of the purchase was bad news for the
:04:59. > :05:05.island. Philip Ozuof told me later on this afternoon that he stands by
:05:05. > :05:10.his decision. I have save taxpayers millions of pounds. We can do
:05:10. > :05:16.better than the original business case that was presented to me on
:05:16. > :05:24.Lime Grove House. I am going to work to find an alternative site
:05:24. > :05:31.that will be more efficient. There were inefficiencies in the site
:05:31. > :05:38.itself. There clearly are cracks between States departments, Jersey
:05:38. > :05:43.Property Holdings and the Treasury. Members and the public alike will
:05:43. > :05:45.wait the outcome of the investigation.
:05:45. > :05:49.Jersey rugby player Michael Le Bourgeois has been banned from
:05:49. > :05:52.driving and fined. The 21-year-old appeared in the magistrates' court
:05:52. > :05:56.today where he was charged with driving over the alcohol limit,
:05:56. > :06:02.having no licence, no insurance and taking a car without the order's
:06:02. > :06:08.consent. He was banned for 23 months and fined 1,600. He says he
:06:08. > :06:12.regrets his actions. Obviously, I am sorry to have let down so many
:06:12. > :06:18.people. It has affected a lot of the youngsters to do look up to me
:06:18. > :06:21.as a role model. I would like to apologise to them and try to make
:06:21. > :06:31.it right, try to help them out with coaching and start helping people
:06:31. > :06:34.
:06:34. > :06:40.out as much as I can. I hope I can eventually be a role model again.
:06:40. > :06:45.He will be a be back -- he will be back in jersey's squad for their
:06:45. > :06:48.trip to Blackheath tomorrow. There will be extensive coverage of the
:06:48. > :06:50.match in Saturday sport seen on BBC Radio Jersey.
:06:50. > :06:55.The Jersey International Air Display has secured a main sponsor
:06:55. > :06:59.for next year, despite this year's event being cancelled. Robert
:06:59. > :07:05.Haines Cooper, who lives in the Seychelles, says he will support
:07:05. > :07:09.the display for the 15th time. It costs 270,000 to put on and will
:07:09. > :07:13.need more sponsors. Yesterday's display fell victim to the weather,
:07:13. > :07:16.the first time it had been cancelled in 35 years.
:07:16. > :07:21.Jersey post as apologised for refusing to deliver recordings of
:07:22. > :07:25.the Bible paid for by church groups. An employee classified the
:07:25. > :07:30.recordings as offensive material and would not deliver them. The
:07:30. > :07:35.Switch On campaign is meant to celebrate the 400th anniversary of
:07:35. > :07:41.the King James Bible. The recordings will now be delivered by
:07:41. > :07:46.volunteers. The Chief Executive of Jersey Post told us it was a big
:07:46. > :07:49.mistake. It was wrong and we apologise profusely for it. My
:07:49. > :07:54.colleague made a mistake in refusing delivery of it. I do not
:07:54. > :08:00.think it really matters what that judgment was. It was completely
:08:00. > :08:06.wrong. We are really sorry and we have offered to distribute that CD
:08:06. > :08:10.free of charge. It is the least we can do.
:08:10. > :08:14.Now it is Free Friday time, when we show you what you can do that is
:08:14. > :08:21.free or costs very little. This week, the music of the Albert Hall

:08:26. > :08:30.night of the Proms from your seat by the sea.

:08:34. > :08:38.for tomorrow night when a little bit of London comes to Guernsey.
:08:38. > :08:48.The organiser is with me. What is happening tomorrow evening? We are

:09:02. > :09:11.last night of the Proms. You have three lovely gentleman with you as
:09:12. > :09:19.
:09:19. > :09:29.well. Can you explain why they are here? These men will be down here
:09:29. > :09:32.tomorrow, shaking their buckets to help raise money for an appeal.
:09:32. > :09:35.After the disaster of yesterday, hopefully we're going to get more
:09:35. > :09:41.money. Are you looking forward to tomorrow
:09:41. > :09:47.evening? Yes. A sunny disposition is no match for a rainy day.
:09:47. > :09:52.Everyone, please come on out. We have some good-looking guys. We are

:10:52. > :10:53.
:10:53. > :11:01.weather front heading towards us. Fairly quiet weather for the first
:11:01. > :11:05.part of the night. Generally rather cloudy. Some mist and sea fog. It
:11:05. > :11:11.will be exceptionally mild for a September night, with temperatures
:11:11. > :11:21.at around 16 Celsius. It will be a warm start to the day tomorrow, but
