:00:22. > :00:25.more financial support for thousands of carers.

:00:25. > :00:35.And, on a roll, Jersey Rugby Club celebrates their ninth consecutive

:00:35. > :00:44.

:00:44. > :00:47.win. Will they score another An amazing friend, just one tribute

:00:47. > :00:52.to a young Guernsey woman who's been killed in a traffic accident

:00:52. > :00:57.in London. Ellie Carey died after her bicycle was involved in a

:00:57. > :01:02.collision with a lorry. Penny Elderfield reports.

:01:02. > :01:06.At 22, Ellie had everything to look forward to in life. But it's a life

:01:06. > :01:11.that was sadly cut short. A student studying at University in London,

:01:11. > :01:13.she was killed in a road accident there last Friday. Since then

:01:13. > :01:22.tributes have been pouring in online from those that knew and

:01:22. > :01:31.loved her. Ellie has been a volunteer for Bridge To Sri Lanka

:01:31. > :01:36.for over a year. She loved a life. She was always happy and smiling.

:01:36. > :01:42.In fact, she had offered to go back again after her studies. We were

:01:42. > :01:46.going to discuss it more. I'm so sad. She would have given so much

:01:46. > :01:50.of herself. She was a wonderful girl. And it's clear that's a view

:01:50. > :01:52.that is shared by so many others. A man's since been arrested on

:01:52. > :02:02.suspicion of causing death by careless driving, and bailed to

:02:02. > :02:06.Guernsey police are investigating after a man was found dead in a

:02:06. > :02:09.hotel over the weekend. The man, in his 30s, was found in the Trelade

:02:09. > :02:12.in St Martin's on Saturday evening. Officers say his death is

:02:12. > :02:16.unexplained and will release more details once his next of kin have

:02:16. > :02:20.been told. Meanwhile investigations are

:02:20. > :02:24.continuing into the unexplained death of a man in St Peter Port.

:02:24. > :02:28.37-year-old Lee Solano was found at an address in Back Street on Friday

:02:28. > :02:32.afternoon. Three local men were arrested in connection with the

:02:32. > :02:35.incident and have now been released on police bail. Anyone who saw or

:02:35. > :02:40.had contact with Lee Solano last Thursday or Friday should contact

:02:40. > :02:43.Guernsey police. In Jersey, A man was knocked

:02:43. > :02:46.unconscious during an assault in Town Park in the early hours of

:02:46. > :02:51.this morning. The 37-year-old was taken to hospital with head

:02:51. > :02:54.injuries, which aren't thought to be serious. Police describe the

:02:54. > :02:57.attacker as male, about five foot eight inches tall, with short or

:02:57. > :03:01.shaven hair and wearing a white or light-coloured top. He's believed

:03:01. > :03:05.to have been with two women at the time.

:03:05. > :03:08.There's calls for more financial support for carers in Jersey.

:03:08. > :03:11.Around 7,000 people in the island look after a loved one, but the

:03:11. > :03:14.Jersey Association of Carers say while there's more awareness of the

:03:14. > :03:19.struggles carers face, the government still needs to offer

:03:19. > :03:23.more support. Beckie Wiliams reports.

:03:23. > :03:28.This was David and his wife, Mary in happier times. Five years ago

:03:28. > :03:32.she was diagnosed with lung disease and is now bedridden. Make sure the

:03:32. > :03:36.things aren't getting caught. needs round-the-clock care and

:03:36. > :03:41.David can't do it all. But he's had to get in private carers here in

:03:41. > :03:51.from the UK because he says the cost of local care is too much.

:03:51. > :03:53.

:03:53. > :03:56.It's a very big problem. I've been paying in April and May, 425 a day.

:03:56. > :04:04.Although we had excellent service from Social Services, district

:04:04. > :04:08.nurses, no-one could give us the care my wife needed. -- Social

:04:08. > :04:12.Security. And that financial burden is an issue facing more than 7,000

:04:12. > :04:15.islanders who are carers. There is help available for people on income

:04:15. > :04:20.support, but bosses here at the Jersey Association of Carers

:04:20. > :04:27.believe middle earners need more assistance. A lot of people do find

:04:27. > :04:33.they have to give up work to care for people at home. If they want

:04:33. > :04:36.some time off, the care is very expensive. Social Security say

:04:36. > :04:46.there are plans to introduce a new care benefit that won't be means

:04:46. > :04:51.tested. The states have agreed the legislation for a new long-term

:04:51. > :04:55.care benefits, a contributory benefit. We hope the regulations

:04:55. > :04:59.under that legislation will define the amounts people receive and the

:04:59. > :05:02.amount of repayment. Meanwhile for David there's a constant need to

:05:02. > :05:05.balance the books. He's one of the lucky ones and can afford private

:05:06. > :05:15.care. But the many other carers in Jersey without savings will welcome

:05:16. > :05:24.

:05:24. > :05:28.To Channel Islanders are gearing up for an epic adventure. They are set

:05:28. > :05:31.to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa next week after winning a

:05:31. > :05:36.national competition. Their part by a little earlier and so I started

:05:36. > :05:43.by asking them how it all came about. I saw the competition on

:05:43. > :05:48.line. It was to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in the most creative

:05:48. > :05:53.manner whilst raising money for Tanzanian charities. I entered on

:05:53. > :06:01.line. The reason you won the competition, there is a clue,

:06:01. > :06:07.around your neck. We both have a camera. I have Mainz strapped to my

:06:07. > :06:14.chest. It will be taking a time lapse of the entire plan, taking a

:06:14. > :06:21.picture every second. We will create a film at the end. Ed will

:06:21. > :06:26.film documentary footage. At the end of it, we will produce a DVD we

:06:26. > :06:34.can show people and sell and so on. You raise the money by selling the

:06:34. > :06:41.DVD? Yes. Ally starring in the DVD? We thought rather than doing

:06:41. > :06:46.decline, we would do the training montage. We will do some footage

:06:46. > :06:52.around the studio. All sorts of things travelling to and from Mount

:06:52. > :06:57.Kilimanjaro. It gives another perspective. You mention training

:06:57. > :07:04.montages, can you tell us what you have been up to as a pair? The is a

:07:04. > :07:11.lot -- there is not a lot of Manton this areas in the Channel Islands -

:07:11. > :07:18.- mountain's. Nothing can train due for altitude sickness. Hopefully,

:07:18. > :07:24.we are fit enough so that will not happen. How you feeling, nervous?

:07:24. > :07:29.Excited and nervous. You have all these expectations but it is not

:07:29. > :07:32.until you get there that the real nerds will kick in. When you start?

:07:32. > :07:37.We fly on Saturday and arrive Sunday and commends climbing on

:07:38. > :07:44.Sunday. This time next week, you will be getting up the mind turned.

:07:44. > :07:49.What about the charity and with the money will go to? There are various

:07:49. > :07:58.charities in Tanzania. Everything from malnutrition, disease, and

:07:58. > :08:05.even supporting people end Tanzania. There's a whole host of charities

:08:05. > :08:09.that we are climbing with. Adds to the pressure. Yes. We are looking

:08:09. > :08:15.forward to it. Can't wait to get up there. Nerves, you cannot plan for

:08:15. > :08:21.it. Good luck. Keep us posted and we look forward to seeing the DVD

:08:21. > :08:25.and the end. Thank you very much. It may have been a wet and windy

:08:25. > :08:35.day but that did not stop Jersey rugby club claiming a 9th

:08:35. > :08:37.

:08:37. > :08:40.consecutive win. League One. A penalty kick from Jersey's

:08:40. > :08:45.opponents, Coventry, started the points rolling in but after that it

:08:45. > :08:49.was Jersey's game. But, it wasn't an easy win with challenging

:08:49. > :08:53.conditions to contend with. But despite the rain and the mud,

:08:53. > :09:03.almost 2,000 spectators turned up to watch some very tight rugby from

:09:03. > :09:03.

:09:03. > :09:07.the home side. It makes such a difference to us, knowing it is not

:09:07. > :09:14.just friends and family, people are supporting us and put in the island

:09:14. > :09:21.on the map. In the second half, it got muddier and meaner, with Jersey

:09:21. > :09:24.applying more pressure. At full- time the score was 29-3, making it

:09:24. > :09:27.a ninth consecutive win for Jersey. It means they remain in fourth

:09:27. > :09:35.place in the league. And at the halfway point in the season, the

:09:35. > :09:39.coach is confident. We have played every single side, we know we can

:09:39. > :09:44.beat the through lost two. We believe that. Another day, we can

:09:44. > :09:48.beat anybody in this league. We feel confident. We have to have a

:09:48. > :09:52.look with injury and referee decisions but that is the nature of

:09:52. > :09:55.professional sport will do we feel we're in control of our destiny.

:09:55. > :09:58.well deserved smiles for Jersey and there were also celebrations this

:09:58. > :10:02.weekend for Guernsey who won their away game against Sutton and Epsom,

:10:02. > :10:07.14- 40. The Sarnian side sit fifth in the London and South-East

:10:07. > :10:17.Division One. So a fine weekend for rugby in the islands, which is more

:10:17. > :10:24.

:10:24. > :10:26.I have a feeling that some more wet and windy weather on the way.

:10:26. > :10:32.colder now across the Channel Islands not will continue tonight

:10:32. > :10:38.and tomorrow. There is a fairly raw feel to the wind coming from the

:10:38. > :10:41.north-west and it is feeding in north-west and it is feeding in

:10:41. > :10:45.quite a few showers. Winds are from the north-west, that is why we have

:10:45. > :10:50.had a drop in temperatures and we continue in the same vein tomorrow.

:10:50. > :10:55.It will be quite cloudy tomorrow. Limited brighter weather off and on

:10:55. > :11:00.to Iraq the day. Into Wednesday afternoon, perhaps a clearance of

:11:00. > :11:06.the frontal system but with the risk of showers and a blustery

:11:06. > :11:11.north-west Winforton overnight, showers continue. Temperatures can

:11:11. > :11:15.drop down to five degrees. Tomorrow, with showers from dawn onwards, and

:11:15. > :11:20.they will continue and the other front close by means we will keep

:11:20. > :11:24.cloud for much of the day, ten Celsius the highest temperature. A

:11:24. > :11:34.brisk north-westerly and you feel cold and the coastal waters

:11:34. > :11:34.

:11:34. > :11:44.forecast has it from the north or north-west. Otherwise, many good.

:11:44. > :11:50.

:11:50. > :11:54.Very messy surfing conditions because of the onshore breeze. That

:11:54. > :11:59.is through until Wednesday, four to five feet on the beaches. Until the

:11:59. > :12:04.end of the week, it is drier by Friday. Wednesday, frequent showers

:12:04. > :12:10.in the morning but becoming more isolated. Still the risk of showers

:12:10. > :12:16.and slightly warmer on Thursday. More cloud coming, becoming mainly

:12:16. > :12:25.dry. Friday, possibly the best day, sunny spells, a risk of a few

:12:25. > :12:29.showers and temperatures up to ten Finally, while snow has been

:12:29. > :12:33.falling across Scotland today at the moment, it looks like this is

:12:33. > :12:36.the closest Jersey will get to a White Christmas. The White House on

:12:36. > :12:39.St Ouen's seawall will be painted white again in time for Christmas.
