:00:09. > :00:15.You are watching BBC in the Channel Islands. Welcome to the programme.

:00:15. > :00:20.Coming up: the cost of BT, doubts over whether women here will get

:00:20. > :00:24.their now banned breast implants removed for free. Also tonight, we

:00:24. > :00:28.look around Guernsey's new hospice and ask where it will find the

:00:28. > :00:38.money to keep going. And milking the Jersey name, as

:00:38. > :00:44.

:00:44. > :00:47.dairy farmers target lucrative Pressure is mounting on private

:00:47. > :00:52.surgeons who carried out breast enlargements using the

:00:52. > :00:56.controversial French PIP implants to remove them without charging. A

:00:56. > :00:59.consultant plastic surgeon who has used them on patients in Jersey has

:00:59. > :01:03.offered to give his time for free to remove those implants. In

:01:03. > :01:08.Guernsey, a private healthcare provider has offered to give free

:01:08. > :01:12.checks to all women with implants. These are the breast implants that

:01:12. > :01:16.are causing the concern. Both the island's help services so that none

:01:16. > :01:21.of the French made PIP implants were given to patients in the

:01:21. > :01:31.island's hospitals but it doesn'ts of women have had them privately. -

:01:31. > :01:33.

:01:33. > :01:37.- dozens of women. Here at the clinic in St Hellier, Adrian

:01:37. > :01:42.Grobbelar is holding a private clinic. He has used these implants

:01:42. > :01:45.in the past. Today his secretary told me that he would be giving his

:01:45. > :01:50.time for free to those who wanted them removed. What remains unclear

:01:50. > :01:53.is who would pay for the theatre time and staff. TPs have reported a

:01:53. > :02:00.rise in the number of women concerned about the implants. --

:02:00. > :02:08.GPs. Women that have been consulting GPs. They are not sure

:02:08. > :02:14.which in plant they have had. Guernsey, the private health

:02:14. > :02:17.provider, Centre for Modern Medicine, is providing free local

:02:17. > :02:22.check-ups to any woman who has the PIP implants. They have also gone

:02:22. > :02:27.further saying that if any implants need replacing or if a woman

:02:27. > :02:31.decides she wants to go down that route to anyway, they will offer

:02:31. > :02:36.the procedure at a reduced tariff. We need to understand what happened

:02:36. > :02:42.in the United Kingdom. A review was announced by the UK health service

:02:42. > :02:46.today. That will do little to allay the women -- fears of women here

:02:46. > :02:50.who are wondering how safe their implants are and if they need to be

:02:50. > :02:54.removed, who will pay. Two people had to climb out of a

:02:54. > :02:58.bedroom window on to their route to escape a fire in St Hellier last

:02:59. > :03:02.night. The fire was on the first floor at a home on Bellozane Avenue

:03:02. > :03:09.and broke out at around 11pm. It was brought under control by the

:03:09. > :03:13.fire service. The cause is being investigated.

:03:13. > :03:16.Police in Jersey have renewed their appeal for their woman who has been

:03:16. > :03:22.missing for almost a month. Margarida Nascimento de Ascensao

:03:23. > :03:26.was last seen around 9pm on Friday 16th December at her home in St

:03:26. > :03:30.Saviours Road. She has not been in touch with anyone since. She is

:03:30. > :03:36.from Madeira, around five feet two inches tall, of a medium to stocky

:03:36. > :03:40.build and has long dark hair. a concern. In the course of a year,

:03:40. > :03:45.we have 700 missing person reports and those people are found within

:03:45. > :03:50.hours or days. She has now been missing for almost four weeks. The

:03:50. > :03:52.appeal today is really not just from members of the public but to

:03:52. > :03:57.Margarida Nascimento de Ascensao herself. You are not in any trouble,

:03:57. > :04:04.we are concerned for your welfare. If you do not want people to know

:04:04. > :04:12.why you are, please do contact us. Patients and staff have been

:04:12. > :04:18.settling into Jersey's new Les Bourgs Hospice this week. There is

:04:18. > :04:27.still a very large bill to be paid however.

:04:27. > :04:33.I like be fitted sheets. They are so easy to drive. From the

:04:33. > :04:36.bedsheets to the bedrooms, there are lots of admirers at Guernsey's

:04:36. > :04:42.new hospice. I am sure they are going to be very happy years. I

:04:42. > :04:46.think we are all going to be happy because it is a luxury for us.

:04:46. > :04:52.Relatives have been flabbergasted by how lovely it is. The patients

:04:52. > :04:56.have been recovering from the shock of any event and are glad to be

:04:56. > :04:59.settling in. Despite every bedroom having some of the latest

:04:59. > :05:05.technologies such as this hoist system that goes all around the

:05:05. > :05:11.room, they also benefit from having a private terrace and the all-

:05:11. > :05:15.important room with a view. garden is the focal point of the

:05:15. > :05:19.hospice and all seven on suite bedrooms have easy access to the

:05:19. > :05:24.outdoors. This is not just a story about a new hospice. It still needs

:05:24. > :05:28.to be paid for, approximately 1 million to write off, and that is

:05:28. > :05:31.before covering the annual running costs of almost three-quarters of a

:05:32. > :05:35.million pounds. The hospice is not resting on its laurels and is

:05:35. > :05:40.trying to generate new income streams. We now have a marvellous

:05:40. > :05:44.training room and we are hoping to provide that as a service to the

:05:44. > :05:50.island if people want to lease the room which will give us a small

:05:50. > :05:56.income streams. Everything helps. new beginning for this hospice. But

:05:56. > :05:59.not the end for the charity's financial challenges.

:05:59. > :06:03.They Rahme the warship which is affiliated to Guernsey has left

:06:03. > :06:10.Portsmouth on its first operational deployment. HMS Daring is one of

:06:10. > :06:12.the new -- new type-45 Destroyers and Costa billion pounds. She will

:06:12. > :06:17.spend several months in the Gulf and the Indian Ocean.

:06:17. > :06:22.The Matt Banahan has been dropped from the England rugby squad for

:06:22. > :06:27.the upcoming Six Nations tournament. He did not make it into the squad.

:06:27. > :06:32.He was part of England's World Cup team in the autumn and was one of

:06:32. > :06:39.their team changes in the squad. Later in Spotlight with Justin and

:06:39. > :06:45.Victoria, it is a race against time to finish a 140 it old bridge so

:06:45. > :06:48.that steam trains can return. -- 140 year old bridge.

:06:48. > :06:51.Jersey could be exporting cow embryos to China within the next

:06:52. > :06:59.two years. The President of the island's agricultural society says

:06:59. > :07:04.that China has been importing dairy cows to increase production.

:07:04. > :07:13.Embryos have been sent to Argentina, delivering a welcome financial

:07:13. > :07:17.boost to local dairy farmers. Lech time at Le Ferme. These cows

:07:17. > :07:20.are famous the world Ovett -- lunch time. Their fame is set to get

:07:20. > :07:24.bigger. Last summer, a law was changed which means that farmers

:07:25. > :07:29.can now send power embryos to countries where there is a demand

:07:29. > :07:35.for pedigree cattle. The first ones have just arrived in Argentina.

:07:35. > :07:41.They are a few days old and are extracted from the donor cows and

:07:41. > :07:48.deep-frozen. They are exported as about -50 degrees. They have gone

:07:48. > :07:53.to Argentina and been given better than a clearance at the weekend.

:07:53. > :07:58.Each embryo can reach up to 500 for farmers. Now the forest seemed

:07:58. > :08:04.interested in a bit of the Jersey too. The dairy industry in China is

:08:04. > :08:08.growing rapidly but they are not yet in the position to take on high

:08:08. > :08:13.and genetics. They will be there soon. It is a marvellous

:08:13. > :08:17.opportunity for Jersey. It has also been welcomed by Anne Perchard. She

:08:17. > :08:23.has been farming since 1950 and says that the decision is a long

:08:23. > :08:27.time coming. It is wonderful because it is as a diversification

:08:27. > :08:37.for the dairy farmer. He now has a pool of embryos that he can sell.

:08:37. > :08:40.It must be really top-quality stuff, I must say. Farmers think they will

:08:40. > :08:44.export 200 embryos a year. Agricultural bosses says this

:08:44. > :08:48.decision will not dilute the Jersey breed but strengthen it and will

:08:48. > :08:55.provide a welcome financial boost for one of the island's most

:08:55. > :09:01.important industries. A film crew will be taking in the

:09:01. > :09:06.sites around their C this week. For the BBC share Countryfile, they

:09:06. > :09:10.have been filming of the island's West Coast finding more about Lihou

:09:10. > :09:13.Island. The plan was to have a go at ormering and learn more about

:09:13. > :09:18.the tradition that that was not the only thing the presenters will be

:09:18. > :09:22.focusing on. There are loads of great stories we can cover. We are

:09:22. > :09:27.looking at dairy farming, the possibilities for what can be grown

:09:27. > :09:32.here because there's so much light and warmth. Also, I will be looking

:09:32. > :09:36.at the oil spill that happened in the 1960s and at the impact that

:09:36. > :09:40.has had on the island. If you want to see what they have

:09:40. > :09:45.been up to, that episode of Countryfile is on BBC One on 29th

:09:45. > :09:48.January. The sunshine came out for the

:09:48. > :09:58.cameras this morning showing off Lihou Island in all its glory.

:09:58. > :10:06.Let's see what the weather is doing The dry fine weather continues. A

:10:06. > :10:10.cold tonight. A lot of dry weather and clear skies. The high pressure

:10:10. > :10:15.will weaken a little overnight and tomorrow. A cold front will come

:10:15. > :10:20.down from the north. It will weekend but introduce a lot more

:10:20. > :10:25.cloud. It will bring colder air from the north as well. Quite a

:10:25. > :10:29.cold weekend. Temperatures overnight it down as low as five or

:10:29. > :10:34.six degrees. Light westerly winds. Tomorrow morning, find whether to

:10:34. > :10:44.start the day. Gradually it will cloud over but that will take a

:10:44. > :10:49.while. Temperatures again on the mild side. The winds picking up

:10:49. > :10:59.from the West and veering north- westerly later. Coastal waters

:10:59. > :11:18.

:11:18. > :11:22.The forecast over the weekend, quite a big swing in temperatures.

:11:22. > :11:26.We will be down at on the weekend took six or seven degrees. Friday

:11:26. > :11:32.could be quite cloudy at the start and misty in places before the

:11:32. > :11:36.sunshine breaks through. Easily winds. Saturday and Sunday, more

:11:36. > :11:40.cloud coming, particularly on Sunday, and the winds will freshen

:11:40. > :11:44.from the south-east making it cold. Temperatures will be struggling.
