:00:41. > :00:44.dining. The school cook teaching Nine hundred jobs have been created

:00:44. > :00:50.in Jersey since 2008 thanks to a strategy to bring more companies to

:00:50. > :00:54.the island. Among them are mining, oil and gas firms, and a carbon

:00:54. > :00:59.trading business. But are local home grown companies being left out

:00:59. > :01:05.in the cold? Edward Sault reports. Here's a question for you, what do

:01:05. > :01:08.Sweden, Singapore, and Sheffield all have in common with Jersey? The

:01:08. > :01:13.answer - they're all competing against each other to get companies

:01:13. > :01:19.to locate in their jurisdictions. And for Jersey it seems to have

:01:19. > :01:23.paid off. Dr Tim Coughlin runs one of those companies that's relocated

:01:23. > :01:33.to Jersey. His company is called Lydian and it's a gold mining

:01:33. > :01:34.

:01:34. > :01:40.business - so why Jersey? largest shareholder is the Bank.

:01:40. > :01:44.They want us to domicile some were well regarded and soak Jersey

:01:44. > :01:47.happened to beat someone we already knew. And they've employed locals

:01:47. > :01:50.too. Heather Tibbo works for Vestra Wealth - they handle around two

:01:50. > :01:54.billion pounds worth of funds. And for this Jersey girl - it's a dream

:01:54. > :01:58.come true to see the business she works for relocate back to familiar

:01:59. > :02:03.shores. When we first set up the business 15 months ago there were

:02:03. > :02:09.two of us who moved over here with another local director but we are

:02:09. > :02:14.now 10 people and nine are people who local and we're proud of that.

:02:14. > :02:19.We will look to improve and grow over the years. Good news for the

:02:19. > :02:25.businesses and good news for jobs in Jersey. For others, it is a

:02:25. > :02:29.different story. The tenants of this shop are packing up after 26

:02:29. > :02:32.years' trading. The lease has run out. Paul Trollic is one of the

:02:32. > :02:38.bosses of the Gooseberry Bush. He says whilst he agrees with the move

:02:38. > :02:42.to create jobs local businesses should be helped first.

:02:42. > :02:46.government look at it from the point of view of the more revenue

:02:46. > :02:51.they can bring to the island the better but nevertheless you must

:02:51. > :02:55.look after your own. We feel we have not been looked after and

:02:55. > :03:02.there are many local businesses that have not been looked after.

:03:02. > :03:05.She to help local businesses first? We already are and have been. Jeers

:03:06. > :03:12.the enterprise looked after both small and medium-sized businesses

:03:12. > :03:18.specifically. They also did inward investment -- Jersey. We are

:03:37. > :03:39.stimulate the struggling jobs market. The developer of Fort

:03:39. > :03:43.Tourgis in Alderney says he's satisfied there'll be new direct

:03:43. > :03:49.flights to and from the island, once the new hotel has been built

:03:49. > :03:53.on the site. Construction of the 70-bedroom development will get

:03:53. > :03:57.underway this summer, and is due to be completed by the second half of

:03:57. > :04:03.next year. Frans Verweij says he's spoken to several airlines and is

:04:03. > :04:06.optimistic new routes will be established. Meanwhile Jersey has a

:04:06. > :04:09.new air-route to Cambridge Airport coming later this year. There'll be

:04:09. > :04:13.flights between the university city and the island every Saturday from

:04:13. > :04:18.mid-May until mid-September. It'll be run by the Channel Islands-based

:04:18. > :04:21.airline Blue Islands. A Guernsey couple are still waiting for

:04:21. > :04:25.answers over a fatal accident involving a sister ship of the

:04:25. > :04:30.Costa Concordia. Chris and Ron Cleal were passengers on the Costa

:04:30. > :04:32.Europa, when it hit a quay in Egypt two years ago. Three crew members

:04:32. > :04:38.were killed but Italian authorities are refusing to release the

:04:38. > :04:46.findings of an inquiry into the incident. The couple told our

:04:46. > :04:52.reporter Mike Wilkins they'll never go on another Costa vessel again.

:04:52. > :04:57.We were in bed and heard a loud bang. Jumped up and realised we

:04:57. > :04:59.were in the port. Absolutely petrifying. Watching back the video

:06:25. > :06:28.Maritime Organisation who're the regulators and are supposed to

:06:28. > :06:34.receive the findings of all major investigations haven't got this

:06:34. > :06:36.report either. It's been two years since Ron and Chris's terrifying

:06:36. > :06:46.experience and they're still keen to cruise, just not with Costa

:06:46. > :06:48.
