:01:35. > :01:41.representing Guernsey on something other than football for a change.
:01:41. > :01:45.For Jersey's special gymnast, Alex macro, there was some confusion
:01:45. > :01:52.today as they were told they would be carrying the torch in the wrong
:01:52. > :01:58.island -- Alex Buesnel. They have now been told it was an admin error.
:01:58. > :02:04.It gives me a good opportunity to be in Jersey and people will want
:02:04. > :02:09.to come and see me and Jimmy on. It will be a fantastic atmosphere. --
:02:09. > :02:13.cheer me on. It would have meant logistic problems getting to
:02:13. > :02:16.Guernsey. It was at 9 o'clock in the morning which would have meant
:02:16. > :02:20.flying of the day before so it would have been more difficult for
:02:20. > :02:27.us. We would have been there nevertheless that great relief it
:02:27. > :02:37.will be in Jersey. The torch will arrive in Guernsey on 15th

:02:40. > :02:45.It will make its way back to the sea front and by midday it will

:03:49. > :03:53.originally from Derry, was found outside his flat in Val Plaisant on
:03:53. > :03:58.Sunday morning. This is where Michael Stewart fell
:03:58. > :04:02.to his death after returning from a night out on Saturday. It is
:04:02. > :04:05.believed the Irishman had been celebrating St Patrick's Day with
:04:05. > :04:09.friends. The family believe he fell while trying to get back into his
:04:09. > :04:14.flat through the window, having found himself locked out.
:04:14. > :04:17.Neighbours witnessed the scene moments after he fell. To from what
:04:17. > :04:22.I can gather his he came back from town earlier than the rest of the
:04:22. > :04:26.crowd. He had forgotten his keys, climbed up on the railings and
:04:26. > :04:31.above the ledge to make his way in through the first floor window that
:04:31. > :04:37.way. But it seems he could not get a grip on the ledge and slip off
:04:37. > :04:42.backwards. Unfortunately, he landed on the spikes on the railings.
:04:42. > :04:47.was just walking home and I came across police everywhere.
:04:47. > :04:51.Everything was cordoned off. Plaisant was cordoned off while
:04:51. > :04:56.police investigated but they say there were no suspicious
:04:56. > :05:01.circumstances. Michael's brother, Ryan Stewart, said it was a freak
:05:01. > :05:04.accident. Michael had his whole life ahead of him but it ended in
:05:04. > :05:09.seconds. He also said his brother had been on the island for five
:05:10. > :05:14.years and was planning to marry his long-term partner.
:05:14. > :05:19.It is unlikely Guernsey will continue its legal battle to save
:05:19. > :05:21.VAT relief, that is according to the Commerce and Employment
:05:21. > :05:29.Minister. Although the option of appealing the High Court decision,
:05:29. > :05:36.to allow them to scrap low-value consignment relief.
:05:36. > :05:39.The AA may have lost around one of the battle to save LVRC. But is it
:05:39. > :05:45.worth the legal teams continuing the fight and appealing the
:05:45. > :05:55.decision? A decision that needs to be made in the next three weeks.
:05:55. > :05:55.
:05:55. > :05:57.Guernsey's policy council says the island has a limited time to appeal.
:05:57. > :06:02.The outgoing Commerce and Employment Minister is not
:06:02. > :06:07.convinced it is worth it. further appeal will take a long
:06:08. > :06:12.period of time. It will generate extra cost. Visitors will have to
:06:12. > :06:17.make a decision about the next step. I do not think there are any
:06:17. > :06:21.benefits in taking it further afield. As the industry and the
:06:21. > :06:27.island's government works out its next move, it is something Guernsey
:06:27. > :06:32.Post is having to decide. It would have to still collect VAT for the
:06:32. > :06:38.UK government. Is there a deal to be done? It is something we have
:06:38. > :06:44.Minister on behalf of HMRC. Or that allows us to do is beat up the time
:06:44. > :06:48.four-mile to be lit -- delivered in the UK. We have picked up the cost
:06:48. > :06:53.over many years. That is not something we are prepared to do
:06:53. > :06:58.going forwards. Those negotiations will continue, as well work trying
:06:58. > :07:03.to assess whether it is right to appeal. Not all businesses will be
:07:03. > :07:08.willing to wait and see if it pays off.
:07:08. > :07:12.What do you think? Is it worth the Channel Islands fighting on to save
:07:12. > :07:16.it VAT relief and hundreds of jobs associated with the industry or is
:07:16. > :07:26.it time for the islands to let it go? We would like to hear your
:07:26. > :07:29.
:07:29. > :07:35.An initial report on the remains of five lambs born dead and badly
:07:35. > :07:38.deformed in Jersey, suggest they do have the birth defect of Iris
:07:39. > :07:43.Schmallenberg. The authorities are unable to confirm whether the
:07:43. > :07:49.Lowndes -- the lambs were affected until the results of viral tests.
:07:49. > :07:52.The virus is spread by insects. Two open days have been cancelled by
:07:52. > :07:57.Countryside Services. Flights in and out of Guernsey will
:07:57. > :08:03.be stopped for two days from tonight. It is the first of four
:08:03. > :08:08.closures which will now planned work on the runway to begin.
:08:09. > :08:12.Contractors will be able to remove 7,000 cubic metres of contaminated
:08:12. > :08:15.soil from the area. Flight will resume at 6 o'clock on Thursday
:08:15. > :08:20.morning. You are being warned about a scam
:08:20. > :08:24.from people trying to get your personal details. Jersey police are
:08:24. > :08:28.warning about letters which claimed to come from a Chinese bank. The
:08:28. > :08:31.letter says you could receive money if you show your personal
:08:31. > :08:35.information. You are watching the BBC in the
:08:35. > :08:40.Channel Islands. Later on in Spotlight with Justin and Victoria,
:08:40. > :08:44.a taste of Masterchef prehistoric style. We will show you some
:08:44. > :08:50.cookery demonstrations with a difference.
:08:50. > :08:54.Stay tuned for that. Guernsey FC are within touching distance of the
:08:54. > :08:59.Combined Counties League One title. They thrashed Bookham by seven
:08:59. > :09:04.goals-0 at the weekend, leaving them nine points clear at the top
:09:04. > :09:08.of the table. They can clinch the title on Saturday when they are at
:09:08. > :09:13.home to second place Bedford Sports. We will have the action on Monday.
:09:13. > :09:18.With the odds against an old any win on Saturday's Muratti Vase
:09:18. > :09:22.semi-final, it came as no surprise to most people that Jersey will be
:09:22. > :09:28.playing Guernsey. But Alderney's young team should not be too
:09:28. > :09:33.downhearted as David feared Earl explains. -- David Earl.
:09:33. > :09:38.Alderney may not have won the Muratti vase since 1920 but what is
:09:38. > :09:44.important at the Arsenal is competing in this annual event. I
:09:44. > :09:49.am an altar and the boy and I am proud to be here. Two years ago we
:09:49. > :09:55.scored on the pitch. We scored first and Guernsey were rattled.
:09:55. > :09:58.That was a good year. The crowd went mad when we scored. But with
:09:58. > :10:02.Guernsey playing regular competitive football in the
:10:02. > :10:06.Combined Counties League this season, it was not going to be easy.
:10:07. > :10:11.A bit like Guernsey playing Manchester United in the
:10:11. > :10:16.Premiership. Four goals in the first half put Guernsey well on
:10:16. > :10:23.their way in a place in the Muratti eight Vase final at Springfield
:10:23. > :10:28.Stadium in May. Alderney's best chance came in the second half with
:10:28. > :10:33.a goal from substitute Lee McCormack. Guernsey continued to
:10:33. > :10:41.dominate with three more goals in the second half. 7-0 at the final
:10:41. > :10:46.whistle. The first half, we came under aerial bombardment. In the
:10:46. > :10:52.second half we played much better. I do not think we deserved to lose
:10:52. > :10:57.by seven goals. We had 16, 17 and 18 year-olds playing in the team.
:10:58. > :11:04.If they do not have the standard of football, the development is a. Our
:11:05. > :11:12.team is playing every week. They were terrific. I know they are a
:11:12. > :11:22.good young side. They are a credit to their island.
:11:22. > :11:24.
:11:24. > :11:29.Good evening. Tonight will be another relatively chilly one. We
:11:29. > :11:35.have high pressure in charge of the weather at the moment. A number of
:11:35. > :11:42.weather fronts to the north of us. There is little changed tomorrow.
:11:42. > :11:46.Hype pressure's still dominating. - - high pressure still dominating.
:11:46. > :11:50.Behind moves away to the east by Wednesday which will allow
:11:50. > :11:54.increasing amounts of cloud by the second half of the week. Clear
:11:54. > :12:04.skies will dominate tonight. Temperatures will drop readily
:12:04. > :12:08.after dark. It is cold enough for a patchy ground frost. Lots of
:12:08. > :12:18.sunshine through the first part of the day tomorrow. Tending to cloud
:12:18. > :12:38.
:12:38. > :12:45.over from the north-west. That will Not a huge amount of swell around
