:00:12. > :00:18.A father pleads not guilty to the murder of his own family in a crime

:00:18. > :00:22.that rocked a community. Also tonight: Why did a Jersey

:00:22. > :00:31.civil servant get a half a million pounds to leave his job?

:00:31. > :00:35.And, a long time coming. A new memorial to the 75 sailors killed

:00:35. > :00:45.in Channel Islands waters over 60 years ago. It was about time we had

:00:45. > :00:48.

:00:48. > :00:51.some acknowledgement from the Navy. A man charged with killing six

:00:51. > :00:55.people, including his own children, has pleaded not guilty to their

:00:56. > :01:03.murders. Damian Rzezowski, 31, originally from Poland, appeared

:01:03. > :01:06.before Jersey's Royal Court this afternoon. Edward Sault reports.

:01:06. > :01:12.Damian Rzezowski is charged with the murders of six people, at this

:01:12. > :01:15.property in St Helier in August of last year. Those that died include

:01:15. > :01:22.his wife Izabella, his two children Kinga and Kacper, his father in law

:01:22. > :01:32.Marek Gartska. And his wife's friends Marta de la Haye and her

:01:32. > :01:35.

:01:35. > :01:41.daughter Julia. Today's hearing today lasted just a few minutes in

:01:41. > :01:46.front of the Royal Court. Rzezowski it appeared via video link. Six

:01:46. > :01:51.counts of murder were read out. Rzezowski pleaded not guilty.

:01:51. > :01:57.Instead, his defence team offered six counts of manslaughter on the

:01:57. > :02:00.grounds of diminished as a possibility. The bailiff asked the

:02:00. > :02:05.sinister General whether those counts would be accepted. The reply

:02:05. > :02:10.came as, no. There will be a further hearing in June before a

:02:10. > :02:13.trial on the 13 August. A former Chief Minister has told a

:02:13. > :02:17.scrutiny hearing, examining a 546,000 payoff to a senior civil

:02:17. > :02:19.servant, he'd do the same if he was still in charge. Frank Walker

:02:19. > :02:22.explained why former chief executive Bill Ogley's contract was

:02:22. > :02:29.changed so he'd receive the money if he left early. Our political

:02:29. > :02:32.reporter Chris Rayner has been at the hearing.

:02:32. > :02:35.The Treasury Minister was last to give evidence today at the

:02:35. > :02:45.committee which is looking at the events surrounding the departure of

:02:45. > :02:47.

:02:47. > :02:50.Bill Ogley from his job. And why he was paid 546,000. Bill Ogley has

:02:50. > :02:56.said it was because of a breakdown in his relationship with the

:02:56. > :02:59.Treasury Minister. But the minister said he had a good relationship

:02:59. > :03:01.with Ogley, and supported him when he was publicly criticised during

:03:01. > :03:05.the historic abuse investigation. They did have differences of

:03:05. > :03:12.opinion on certain matters, but he refused to discuss in public what

:03:12. > :03:15.he described as personnel matters. Evidence was given by Frank Walker,

:03:15. > :03:23.former Chief Minister, who reluctantly agreed to change the

:03:23. > :03:28.terms of the contract. For that included a pay-off or should the

:03:28. > :03:31.relationship between him and the states break down. At the time Bill

:03:31. > :03:36.Ogley was considering leaving, Mr Walker said it would have cost much

:03:36. > :03:44.more. When asked if he was aware of the clause of triggering the pay-

:03:44. > :03:47.off, the minister said he was aware it existed but not of its detail.

:03:47. > :03:50.The crew of a yacht stuck on rocks in Guernsey have been interviewed

:03:50. > :03:54.by Guernsey Harbour Authorities today. The Ardel became wedged in

:03:54. > :03:57.the early hours of Sunday morning, whilst trying to sail from the QE2

:03:57. > :04:00.marina into the Victoria Marina. The two crew members were rescued

:04:00. > :04:05.unhurt, but tidal conditions meant attempts to dislodge the boat were

:04:05. > :04:08.delayed. A States of Guernsey department and

:04:08. > :04:11.a local port operator company have appeared in the Magistrates Court

:04:11. > :04:14.charged with breaching Health and Safety laws. It's claimed that, on

:04:14. > :04:16.7th March last year, the Public Services Department, and Guernsey

:04:16. > :04:19.Stevedores Limited, failed to ensure the health, safety and

:04:19. > :04:22.welfare at work of employees. No pleas were entered and

:04:22. > :04:29.representatives from PSD, and the company will appear before the

:04:29. > :04:32.Magistrates Court again on 2nd May. Aurigny's managing director says

:04:32. > :04:36.the new aircraft parking system at Guernsey Airport is performing well,

:04:36. > :04:39.despite some early hiccups. Malcolm Hart says the extra waiting times

:04:39. > :04:42.are having a small environmental and cost impact. However, he says

:04:42. > :04:49.it's early days for the system, and he's confident the teething

:04:49. > :04:53.problems can be smoothed out. 61 years ago today, a Royal Navy

:04:53. > :04:56.submarine, the HMS Affray, sank, with the loss of 75 lives whilst on

:04:56. > :05:00.a training exercise in the English Channel. The wreck lies in the Hurd

:05:00. > :05:03.Deep, and today, a memorial to those who perished was unveiled at

:05:03. > :05:13.Braye Harbour in Alderney by Martin Allen, whose father served on HMS

:05:13. > :05:15.

:05:15. > :05:19.Affray. Our Alderney reporter, David Earl, brings us this report.

:05:19. > :05:24.NEWSREEL: It is not for us to dramatise the tragedy of what

:05:24. > :05:27.happened to the HMS Affray. The wreck of HMS Affray was

:05:27. > :05:34.eventually found some three months later but, until now, there has

:05:34. > :05:41.been no memorial remembering those who perished in the disaster.

:05:41. > :05:45.what triggered it off was my father used to be a crew member on the

:05:45. > :05:48.Affray. He was recalled that day, and he wasn't there that day

:05:48. > :05:51.because he was transferred to another submarine. So I would not

:05:51. > :05:58.be here if things had been different. He always spoke of the

:05:58. > :06:02.HMS Affray in affectionate terms. But we still went ahead with this.

:06:02. > :06:05.One of those present at today's unveiling was June Tower, the widow

:06:05. > :06:15.of Lieutenant John Treleaven, who was lost when the Affray sank 61

:06:15. > :06:17.

:06:17. > :06:22.years ago, today. It was the end of a long wait, we had waited 61 years,

:06:22. > :06:26.and it was about time I thought we had something, some acknowledgement

:06:26. > :06:29.from the Navy. They never apologised for losing our men.

:06:29. > :06:37.After a short but moving memorial service, guests were taken by boat

:06:37. > :06:40.to the site of HMS Affray, now an official war grave.

:06:40. > :06:48.A Royal Navy spokesman said it's still not known what happened to

:06:48. > :06:51.the submarine, or why the accident took place. You're watching the BBC

:06:51. > :06:55.in the Channel Islands. Later in Spotlight with Justin and

:06:55. > :06:58.Victoria... 60 years of surf life saving celebrated at Britain's

:06:58. > :07:07.oldest club. Jersey Hospice launched their sixth

:07:07. > :07:10.annual million pound lottery draw today. 6,000 tickets costing 300

:07:10. > :07:13.each went on sale this morning. Jersey Hospice costs 6,000 a day

:07:13. > :07:16.to run, and the lottery is their biggest fundraiser.

:07:16. > :07:18.Jersey Rugby Club are now only one win away from promotion to the

:07:19. > :07:22.championship after beating Macclesfield 39-0 at the weekend.

:07:22. > :07:28.The island side have been strong all season, with record numbers of

:07:28. > :07:32.supporters turning up to cheer them on. Chris Harrison was at the game.

:07:32. > :07:37.It was a frustrating first half for Jersey. Macclesfield were not going

:07:37. > :07:42.down without a fight. The only points scored were by the island

:07:42. > :07:45.side's Nick Trower, to put them ahead. But, in the second half,

:07:45. > :07:49.Jersey found their momentum and stomped over the visiting side with

:07:49. > :07:59.six tries. Guy Thompson, seen here, was on top form, scoring a hat

:07:59. > :07:59.

:07:59. > :08:02.trick. Some fantastic gameplay wowed Jersey's supporters. Further

:08:02. > :08:06.tries from James Copsey and Jim Brownrigg brought the final score

:08:06. > :08:11.to 39-0. Jersey are now only one win away from a promotion to the

:08:11. > :08:15.Championship League. They meet Coventry away next Saturday. It

:08:15. > :08:22.could be Jersey's third promotion in a row. This is a talented side

:08:22. > :08:28.determined to go places. We are preparing as they have done

:08:28. > :08:36.all season, making sure they have plenty of energy. Coventry will not

:08:36. > :08:46.lie down. We want to game -- when the game really, that is our focus,

:08:46. > :08:50.

:08:50. > :09:00.defend accordingly. It has worked We'll be previewing this weekend's
