:00:18. > :00:22.state-owned airline is investing millions to protect a lifeline link.

:00:22. > :00:23.We are confident that virtually all of the time we will have a full load

:00:23. > :00:28.of passengers. Could Churches in the Channel

:00:28. > :00:32.Islands break away from the Diocese of Winchester after secret talks?

:00:33. > :00:40.And find out what this woman has been up to in a bear enclosure, a

:00:40. > :00:45.tattoo parlour, a fire engine and even in this studio.

:00:45. > :00:53.It might spark people 's imagination to see, she's being very daft. Let's

:00:53. > :00:57.give her a pound! Is this the future of air travel in

:00:57. > :01:00.Guernsey? It's the new Embraer 195 jet that Aurigny has ordered for its

:01:01. > :01:06.Guernsey to London Gatwick service. The state-owned airline is investing

:01:06. > :01:12.millions to protect what it calls a lifeline route. Flybe is due to stop

:01:12. > :01:15.its five flights a day to London in March. Mike Wilkins reports.

:01:15. > :01:25.Aurigny's largest aircraft, the ATR, will soon lose its star status as

:01:25. > :01:30.the airline embraces the jet age. This is the Embraer 195 that Aurigny

:01:30. > :01:33.has bought. They won't tell us the price they paid except that it was

:01:33. > :01:39.under 25 million. It'll carry 122 passengers primarily on the Gatwick

:01:39. > :01:44.route. Other carriers such as Flybe and British Airways already use the

:01:44. > :01:50.aircraft for Jersey. It's claimed this jet is more reliable and is

:01:51. > :01:59.better at landing in poor weather conditions.

:02:00. > :02:05.It comes with specialist equipment which is quite an attractive bit of

:02:05. > :02:09.technology and gives pilots better visibility. They can see the runway

:02:09. > :02:17.more clearly and it is presenting information to them on the screen

:02:17. > :02:21.which could help them get in in lower visibility conditions.

:02:21. > :02:26.I've spoken to some commercial airline pilots who tell me they have

:02:26. > :02:35.concerns as to whether Embraer 195 can really take off and land fully

:02:35. > :02:40.loaded. We have a wide variety of weather conditions on Guernsey. We

:02:40. > :02:44.have applied all of that to this specific aircraft and are confident

:02:44. > :02:47.that virtually all of the time we are going to be able to take off and

:02:47. > :02:50.land with a full load of passengers. As Aurigny expands its fleet, this

:02:50. > :02:54.is a great opportunity for the airline. They insist that the cost

:02:54. > :03:01.of a ticket should remain at 2012 prices and they forecast that they

:03:01. > :03:04.should be turning a modest profit within two years.

:03:04. > :03:06.Anglican Church members in the Channel Islands have met secretly to

:03:06. > :03:10.raise concerns about their relationship with the Church of

:03:10. > :03:14.England. The meeting was never meant to be in the public domain but the

:03:14. > :03:22.BBC has obtained details about what was discussed. Our reporter Amy

:03:22. > :03:24.Harris has been following this one and joins me now. What was the

:03:24. > :03:27.meeting about? Well, this meeting follows

:03:27. > :03:30.investigations by the Winchester diocese into Jersey's Dean after he

:03:30. > :03:33.allegedly mishandled an abuse complaint. It was a private meeting,

:03:33. > :03:36.which wasn't supposed to reach the ears of the public. But the BBC has

:03:36. > :03:39.learnt that representatives from the Anglican Church in Jersey and

:03:39. > :03:42.Guernsey met here last Friday. Senator Sir Philip Bailhache

:03:42. > :03:45.organised it and says those attending discussed fears about

:03:45. > :03:51.their relationship with the Diocese of Winchester and whether it should

:03:51. > :03:55.continue. Is there any serious chance of

:03:55. > :03:59.Jersey and Guernsey breaking away from the English system?

:03:59. > :04:02.That as yet is unclear. What is clear is emotions have been running

:04:02. > :04:06.high. Saturday's Jersey Evening Post included this full page advert from

:04:06. > :04:14.a group of Church members worried about the reputation of the Anglican

:04:14. > :04:17.Church. The advert says the Bishop of Winchester's reaction has been

:04:17. > :04:21.over the top, costing a lot and undermining confidence in the Jersey

:04:21. > :04:31.Church. But Senator Bailhache told the BBC the meeting was just an

:04:31. > :04:38.

:04:38. > :04:41.informal exchanging of views and no decisions were made there.

:04:41. > :04:43.Two people have been arrested in connection with the removal of

:04:44. > :04:46.Guernsey's Holocaust memorial plaque last week. The brass plaque

:04:46. > :04:50.commemorates three Jewish women who were deported from Guernsey during

:04:50. > :04:52.the Second World War and who later died at Auschwitz. The suspects have

:04:52. > :04:55.been interviewed and released on police bail pending further

:04:55. > :05:02.enquiries. Guernsey Police are still appealing for any witnesses to the

:05:02. > :05:05.incident to come forward. A Guernsey surgical ward that's been closed for

:05:05. > :05:08.more than eight months because of budget and staffing concerns will

:05:08. > :05:11.open again in October. The De Saumarez ward at the Princess

:05:11. > :05:14.Elizabeth Hospital was shut in December as the Health and Social

:05:14. > :05:18.Services Department tried to control spending. HSSD Minister Mark Dorey

:05:18. > :05:27.says plans are being made to change ward services at the PEH to make

:05:27. > :05:30.better use of resources. A lot has been written over the

:05:30. > :05:33.years about the Channel Island's occupation during the Second World

:05:33. > :05:37.War but now a team of leading academics is promising to shed a

:05:37. > :05:40.whole new light on it. They claim there was in fact Nazi resistance in

:05:40. > :05:43.the Islands and their book Protest, Defiance and Resistance explores the

:05:43. > :05:46.complex relationship between the Nazis and the Islanders. It's due

:05:47. > :05:50.for publication next year but I spoke to one of the authors, Dr

:05:50. > :05:58.Gilly Carr of Cambridge University, earlier about why she felt there was

:05:58. > :06:05.a new story to tell and about her own interest in the Channel Islands.

:06:05. > :06:12.My family is from Guernsey. My mum's family moved in the 16 80s and

:06:12. > :06:19.my dad's family moved just before the First World War. Many books have

:06:19. > :06:24.been published on this subject, what is different about your one?

:06:24. > :06:29.I think many books don't do justice to the amount of resistance. The

:06:29. > :06:37.underplay it. No proper research has ever really been done which focuses

:06:37. > :06:45.on this subject. It is extraordinary that it has never been done. Were

:06:45. > :06:55.you surprised what you found from your re-search? We were really

:06:55. > :06:56.

:06:56. > :07:03.pleasantly surprised. Many people would say it is time to put that

:07:03. > :07:08.part of history behind us but why would say it is important to

:07:08. > :07:14.remember? I don't think you can put something behind you and tell you

:07:14. > :07:18.have dealt with it properly. Nobody has ever done the studies and

:07:18. > :07:27.produced the figures so it is impossible to move on until this

:07:27. > :07:32.subject is discussed properly. will be be able to read it? It is

:07:32. > :07:39.coming out in hardback in March 20 14th and we have negotiated a

:07:39. > :07:46.special edition for the Channel Islands to follow a few months

:07:46. > :07:49.later. Keep an eye out for that book next

:07:49. > :07:52.year. You're watching the BBC in the

:07:52. > :07:56.Channel Islands. Later in Spotlight with Justin and Natalie, the man who

:07:56. > :08:06.first located the Mary Rose finally comes face to face with Henry VIII's

:08:06. > :08:07.

:08:07. > :08:10.famous warship. In a fire engine, in the bear

:08:10. > :08:14.enclosure at Durrell and while getting a tattoo done. These are

:08:14. > :08:17.just some of the weird and wonderful places charity fundraiser Sue De La

:08:17. > :08:21.Cour has been reading her Kindle, which is like an electronic book.

:08:21. > :08:25.It's part of her summer challenge to raise money for Jersey Hospice Care

:08:25. > :08:35.and she's open to more location suggestions. Let's take a look at

:08:35. > :08:56.

:08:56. > :09:00.what she's done so far and hear why. This came from me sitting in my

:09:00. > :09:05.chair a few weeks ago and wanting to do something for the hospice and

:09:05. > :09:13.thinking that sponsored walks had been done. I like reading. Reading

:09:13. > :09:22.instrument places, that could be good. That is where it grew from. --

:09:22. > :09:28.reading in strange places. I've been in the chapel at the General

:09:28. > :09:38.Hospital, I've been to the fire station and police Station, I've had

:09:38. > :09:54.

:09:54. > :10:01.a tattooed on, I've been to the war after three of my friends and I just

:10:01. > :10:07.wanted to do something to say thank you and which might spark people 's

:10:07. > :10:14.imagination to see, she's very daft, let's give her a pound. I thought

:10:14. > :10:24.that studio looked familiar! Not such a bad day weather-wise today

:10:24. > :10:32.

:10:32. > :10:40.but things might be able to heat up tonight. Tomorrow we should have a

:10:40. > :10:45.fine and dry day with sunny spells. It will feel a little bit warmer.

:10:45. > :10:50.There is a weak area of high pressure which will move across as

:10:50. > :10:57.tonight and be with us for much of the day tomorrow. But it is being

:10:57. > :11:07.squashed down to the South by several weather systems. They are

:11:07. > :11:17.fairly weak affairs where we are but they do introduce more closed. --

:11:17. > :11:31.

:11:31. > :11:41.more closed. We have some patchy cloud tomorrow. There is our coastal

:11:41. > :11:56.

:11:56. > :12:02.surfers but at least they will be clean. Looking further ahead, on
