:00:08. > :00:14.Hello and welcome. The headlines this Monday night. Turbulent times `

:00:15. > :00:23.Flybe to axe 500 jobs. It's not yet clear if any in the Channel Islands

:00:24. > :00:27.are set to go. The unit now part of the world are saying that Exeter is

:00:28. > :00:30.safer than Jersey all Guernsey. Pausing to remember ` the islands

:00:31. > :00:39.fall silent to remember the nation's war dead. And dancing for Pudsey.

:00:40. > :00:43.Join us later to find out why some well`known Channel Islands faces are

:00:44. > :00:47.letting their feet do the talking for children in need. `` for

:00:48. > :00:56.Children In Need. The airline Flybe is axing 500 jobs

:00:57. > :01:00.and reviewing routes and bases around the UK, despite reporting a

:01:01. > :01:04.profit for the first half of the year. It's not yet clear how much of

:01:05. > :01:10.an impact the cutbacks will have on the Channel Islands. Penny

:01:11. > :01:16.Elderfield reports. Profits are up but, at Flybe, staff

:01:17. > :01:19.numbers are coming down. 500 jobs are at risk at the airline and

:01:20. > :01:22.routes and regional hubs around the UK are being reviewed. Flying

:01:23. > :01:25.hundreds of thousands of passengers from Guernsey and Jersey each year

:01:26. > :01:28.to destinations throughout the British Isles and Europe, the

:01:29. > :01:34.importance of the airline to the Channel Islands is clear. But the

:01:35. > :01:44.impact the cuts will have here isn't yet clear. This will put the airline

:01:45. > :01:49.on a solid foundation for future growth. We need to do more but I am

:01:50. > :01:55.confident we have a very exciting future ahead. Flybe said it is to

:01:56. > :02:06.early to talk about specific routes and it should be clearer in the New

:02:07. > :02:09.Year. It did however say it would be looking to talk to airports like

:02:10. > :02:12.Guernsey and Jersey to try and reduce what they charge airlines and

:02:13. > :02:15.that could make certain routes more viable. So is there room for

:02:16. > :02:17.negotiation? There is a saving in flying from Guernsey in that you

:02:18. > :02:21.don't have to pay airport departure tax. If you take that into account

:02:22. > :02:25.for people in the UK, the prices are about the same. If you look purely

:02:26. > :02:30.at the airport charges, the Channel Islands are quite expensive in terms

:02:31. > :02:38.of the network. The airport has remained so `` has to remain

:02:39. > :02:45.serviceable. The judges are pretty much fixed. `` the charges are

:02:46. > :02:48.pretty much fixed. For staff, it's a worrying time and, looking at the

:02:49. > :02:51.numbers, unions are worried the Channel Islands could feel the brunt

:02:52. > :02:55.of the cutbacks more than elsewhere. It would appear so on analysis of

:02:56. > :03:00.the figures but it is down to the company to substantiate that and

:03:01. > :03:03.give the rationale for it. It is difficult for me to say into the

:03:04. > :03:05.rationale for it. It is difficult for me to say and to become DSS

:03:06. > :03:08.which routes are profitable, which bases are profitable and which ones

:03:09. > :03:11.they are suggesting they should take out. Pulling out of Gatwick in

:03:12. > :03:14.March, the airline will already have a smaller presence in the Islands in

:03:15. > :03:18.2014. But staff and passengers will have to wait until the New Year to

:03:19. > :03:23.know the impact, if any, of these latest cutbacks.

:03:24. > :03:26.Well, BBC South West's Business Correspondent, Neil Gallacher, has

:03:27. > :03:30.been following today's developments. He joined me from our Exeter studio

:03:31. > :03:33.earlier and I began by asking him whether it means a further scaling

:03:34. > :03:41.down of Flybe's commitment to the Channel Islands.

:03:42. > :03:48.Possibly, yes. The boss, Saad Hammad, came out with a list of four

:03:49. > :03:52.races he thought were safe and that is Southampton, Birmingham, Belfast

:03:53. > :03:55.and Manchester. All of the other smaller bases are under review. We

:03:56. > :04:04.had the union saying that Exeter, they think, is safer than Jersey all

:04:05. > :04:10.Guernsey. The Company said that was pure speculation. Many employees

:04:11. > :04:15.here, is today a worrying day for them? In the short`term, it is

:04:16. > :04:20.worrying. In the long`term cold there are positives here. There is a

:04:21. > :04:25.clear return to profit, revenue has jumped and the share price has

:04:26. > :04:36.jumped. It is added ?20 million to the value of Flybe. This is a

:04:37. > :04:39.Company with a clear future. More news now.

:04:40. > :04:42.Jersey and Guernsey passports will be printed in the UK from 2015. At

:04:43. > :04:45.the moment, passports are prepared and printed in the Channel Islands

:04:46. > :04:49.and either posted out or collected from the passport office. But after

:04:50. > :04:52.the change in two years' time, they'll all be posted from the UK.

:04:53. > :04:55.Victims of the typhoon in the Philippines will be supported by

:04:56. > :04:58.money from the Channel Islands. Typhoon Haiyan hit on Friday, with

:04:59. > :05:01.10,000 feared dead in one city alone. Guernsey is giving ?50,0 0

:05:02. > :05:04.from its Disaster Emergency Relief Fund. Jersey's Overseas Aid

:05:05. > :05:11.Commission haven't decided how much to donate yet.

:05:12. > :05:14.Those who have died in wars fighting for their country were remembered

:05:15. > :05:18.across the Channel Islands today. 95 years since the end of the First

:05:19. > :05:22.World War, islanders fell silent to mark Armistice Day. Tim Robinson

:05:23. > :05:25.reports. Today and on Remembrance Sunday

:05:26. > :05:27.across the Channel Islands, they stood in rain and wind and cold and

:05:28. > :06:06.silently remembered. We gather here and we remember those

:06:07. > :06:10.islanders and those from elsewhere, colleagues and comrades and those

:06:11. > :06:13.who liberated the island, those who answered the call of duty and paid

:06:14. > :06:25.the ultimate sacrifice for doing that duty.

:06:26. > :06:33.They gave their lives and they gave it voluntarily. Don't forget, from

:06:34. > :06:38.this island and the general Channel Islands, conscription is not

:06:39. > :06:43.enforced and so all of these people who died, all these people on this

:06:44. > :06:46.memorial gave their lives voluntarily. At Jersey's Victoria

:06:47. > :06:49.College, boys remembered the bravery of former pupils. Boys like

:06:50. > :06:52.Lieutenant William Bruce, posthumously awarded a Victoria

:06:53. > :07:04.Cross, which was presented to the school today. During a night attack,

:07:05. > :07:08.Lieutenant Bruce was in charge of a small party which captured one of

:07:09. > :07:11.the enemy's trenches. In spite of being severely wounded in the neck,

:07:12. > :07:14.he walked up and down the trench, encouraging his men to hold on

:07:15. > :07:18.against several counter attacks for some hours, until killed. In almost

:07:19. > :07:22.100 years since the start of World War I, the Channel Islands have lost

:07:23. > :07:24.hundreds of young men to wars around the world. Today's act of

:07:25. > :07:31.remembrance means, however many years pass, their sacrifice will not

:07:32. > :07:35.be forgotten. Marking Armistice Day across the Channel Islands today.

:07:36. > :07:37.You're watching the BBC in the Channel Islands. Later in Spotlight

:07:38. > :07:41.with Justin and Natalie... The moving story of how the BBC Children

:07:42. > :07:48.In Need Appeal is supporting these youngsters. Staying with Children In

:07:49. > :07:51.Need... After weeks of hard training,

:07:52. > :07:54.sequins, and breaking in shoes, tonight's the night that Jersey

:07:55. > :07:57.takes on Strictly Come Dancing. Several well`known faces are taking

:07:58. > :08:01.to the floor to raise money for Children In Need. A little earlier,

:08:02. > :08:10.Amy Harris went to see how preparations were going.

:08:11. > :08:13.It is beamed into millions of living rooms every Saturday night, but

:08:14. > :08:20.tonight Strictly Come Dancing is here in Jersey. Eight celebrity

:08:21. > :08:24.couples are taking part and it is for a good cause was among those

:08:25. > :08:30.couples, we have a civil servant, a TV presenter and we have our own

:08:31. > :08:35.Clare Burton. Let us interrupted practice here. How are you feeling

:08:36. > :08:38.ahead of tonight? Nervous will stop when I was asked to do this, I did

:08:39. > :08:44.not think the day would come but it has been weeks and hours of hard

:08:45. > :08:50.work, literally blood sweat and tears, lots of tears! And here we

:08:51. > :08:53.are, really excited but nervous Good luck with that later on and as

:08:54. > :08:58.I mentioned this whole competition tonight and tomorrow night is for

:08:59. > :09:03.Children In Need. It kicks off a week of activities here in the

:09:04. > :09:11.island and it is being organised by Sarah Palmer, who is organising it.

:09:12. > :09:21.Sarah, tell me why you decided to take this on. It was not just me,

:09:22. > :09:24.but Nick Carver from Jersey tourism. Thank you to him. Everyone loves

:09:25. > :09:28.Strictly Come Dancing and it was lovely to bring it to Jersey. Lots

:09:29. > :09:39.of people have donated their time for free. They have hosted us here

:09:40. > :09:43.for tonights `` for two nights. We hope the board give generously for

:09:44. > :09:49.Children In Need. If you cannot make it tonight, they will be highlights

:09:50. > :09:55.tomorrow night on BBC Channel Islands News. You can see the

:09:56. > :10:02.competitors practising hard on Facebook. In the meantime, keep

:10:03. > :10:11.dancing! On Facebook, you can see that again. Now for the weather

:10:12. > :10:15.Good evening. Some quieter weather tonight. Some rain around tonight,

:10:16. > :10:19.slow declared tomorrow but then we will have some dry weather after

:10:20. > :10:24.that with a view showers possible on Wednesday night into the early hours

:10:25. > :10:28.of Thursday. It does turn colder as we head towards the end of the week

:10:29. > :10:31.and there is even the possibility of some fairly low overnight

:10:32. > :10:35.temperatures, particularly tomorrow night and into the small hours of

:10:36. > :10:38.Wednesday morning. This line of cloud is the one producing brain at

:10:39. > :10:45.the moment. That will creep towards is overnight tonight. Expected to

:10:46. > :10:48.bring more persistent rain tonight. It is slow to clear first thing

:10:49. > :10:51.tomorrow morning. It will clear but not until the afternoon. Once that

:10:52. > :10:55.moves out of the way, we have a ridge of high pressure which will be

:10:56. > :11:00.with us for much of the day on Wednesday the and although weather

:11:01. > :11:03.systems approach, all they will bring is a freshening breeze and a

:11:04. > :11:07.view showers. Showers are possible tonight and then more persistent

:11:08. > :11:14.rain is at weather front comes in and overnight temperatures are no

:11:15. > :11:19.lower than 12 or 13 degrees. The main problem for flights in and out

:11:20. > :11:23.of the islands will be the fog. It will eventually clear out of the way

:11:24. > :11:29.and to get a North West Wing, we will see some clearer skies. It will

:11:30. > :11:33.not the end of the end of the afternoon we lose all of the cloud.

:11:34. > :11:35.There are the coastal waters forecast was that the winds

:11:36. > :11:40.eventually become North or north`westerly, force 5`6, rain them

:11:41. > :11:51.becoming fair with visibility improving to good. The north facing

:11:52. > :11:55.bases will be messy. As for the forecast for the rest of the week,

:11:56. > :11:59.Wednesday is a fine at chilly day. Temperatures struggle later in the

:12:00. > :12:03.week. Thursday goes down to nine degrees. A brisk north`west wind as

:12:04. > :12:08.well. More cloud on Friday but it will remain basically drive.

:12:09. > :12:13.Goodbye. Thank you. Natalie and Justin are

:12:14. > :12:14.with you next. I'll be back at pm and again at ten. Goodbye.

:12:15. > :19:13.It is into the net! Torquay United go behind. A brilliant save. They

:19:14. > :19:23.look like they have killed this game on the 18th minute.

:19:24. > :19:29.`` 88th minute. Exeter Chiefs have started their

:19:30. > :19:32.assault on the Anglo`Welsh Cup in fine style. They beat holders

:19:33. > :19:35.Harlequins 19`5 at Sandy Park in their first tie in pool two. Ceri

:19:36. > :19:38.Sweeney kicked 14 points, including four penalty kicks with Sireli

:19:39. > :19:42.Naqelevuki scoring the Chiefs only try. Just under 9,500 were at Sandy

:19:43. > :19:45.Park which has been chosen to host the final of the competition.

:19:46. > :19:47.The Cornish Pirates and Plymouth Albion are keeping the pressure on

:19:48. > :19:50.the Championship's top four. Kieran Hallett's three penalties were

:19:51. > :19:54.decisive in the Pirates 16`13 win over Bedford Blues. Tries from Tom

:19:55. > :19:57.Bowen and Lewis Warner helped Albion win at struggling Ealing by 20

:19:58. > :20:00.points to five. Finally, tomorrow we'll be building

:20:01. > :20:03.up to the Remembrance rugby match at the Brickfields when the Barbarians

:20:04. > :20:12.meet the Combined Services at 7:15pm.

:20:13. > :20:15.The BBC Children in Need Appeal takes place this Friday and the

:20:16. > :20:21.money you raise helps change the lives of children across the South

:20:22. > :20:25.West. Every year new projects receive funding for the first time,

:20:26. > :20:28.and in the last 12 months, one of those is Children and Families in

:20:29. > :20:31.Grief, in South Devon, who help youngsters, and their families,

:20:32. > :20:35.who've been bereaved. Sue Cole and her son James, and Jo Hamilton and

:20:36. > :20:38.her daughter Summer tell us their story, and how they were helped by

:20:39. > :20:46.Children in Need at a time they needed it most.

:20:47. > :20:53.I kind of just cried and I felt like I was the only one that had lost a

:20:54. > :20:59.father. It was three days before Christmas, and he committed suicide.

:21:00. > :21:05.James was seven at the time. I felt really shocked and just despair,

:21:06. > :21:12.really, not knowing how I was going to tell my daughter that her father

:21:13. > :21:20.had died suddenly because, you know I'm a dork father `` you know, your

:21:21. > :21:24.dad is your world on a really, and how are you supposed to not have him

:21:25. > :21:28.in your life? I did not want to talk about it to any of my friends encase

:21:29. > :21:33.they started talking about how it happened, so I just kept it to

:21:34. > :21:38.myself. I was really worried about him because I did not understand and

:21:39. > :21:42.I was an adult, so I did not know how he could understand what

:21:43. > :21:46.happened to his father. You do not know how to help them. He just hoped

:21:47. > :21:56.that by telling them the truth and giving them lots of cuddles that

:21:57. > :22:03.they will be OK. I was a bit shaky, but I know I was with my mum come

:22:04. > :22:10.and we used to sit on the sofa and hog and just talk about it. `` and

:22:11. > :22:14.cuddle and just talk about it. When I first went to Children and

:22:15. > :22:19.Families in Grief, I was very nervous. I felt a bit better that I

:22:20. > :22:27.could speak about it to other people. It makes a big difference.

:22:28. > :22:37.It is a relief that you can see your child's smile. I always felt a bit

:22:38. > :22:44.better when I knew that it wasn't me that lost my father. What ever the

:22:45. > :22:49.special person is that they lost, they will share their feelings in a

:22:50. > :22:56.different way, but at least you were opening up in expressing themselves.

:22:57. > :22:59.`` at least they were. Until then, James had not showed any emotion and

:23:00. > :23:04.did not talk about it, and he felt he was the only one, and he went

:23:05. > :23:10.there and he brought out a lot of his feelings and was able to talk

:23:11. > :23:15.more about it. I am glad that I can go there and I can just speak about

:23:16. > :23:20.how I feel. I would say that Children in Need were pretty

:23:21. > :23:25.fantastic for supporting children and families in Greece, because

:23:26. > :23:32.there is not enough bereavement support groups out there for

:23:33. > :23:41.families. It is really needed. `` families in grief.

:23:42. > :23:44.So, as you can see, the money you raise really does make a difference,

:23:45. > :23:47.and if you're fundraising and want to come along to the National

:23:48. > :23:50.Maritime Museum Cornwall on Friday night for Pudsey's party, just

:23:51. > :24:03.e`mail and we'll send you the tickets. Thank you for all of the

:24:04. > :24:07.fundraising so far. Let's see what the weather is doing. We'll have a

:24:08. > :24:12.quick look at it. It looks like we have a much quieter week ahead of

:24:13. > :24:16.us, certainly a lot drier than last week and less windy. There will be

:24:17. > :24:20.some rain around, but that is the general theme this week. It is

:24:21. > :24:24.mainly dry and there is even a risk of a touch of Frost, particularly

:24:25. > :24:30.into the small hours of Wednesday morning. We have lots of low clouds

:24:31. > :24:37.and light humidity in the air. It is misty and foggy in places. The cloud

:24:38. > :24:41.is reducing outbreaks of rain. `` producing. It is a very slow

:24:42. > :24:47.progress on the weather system, but it will clear. There is a good deal

:24:48. > :24:53.of sunshine per turning right across the South West of England, it is

:24:54. > :24:58.slowly moving away, so do not expect improvements to the to rapid

:24:59. > :25:02.tomorrow. By the time we get to Wednesday, we still have a ridge of

:25:03. > :25:06.high pressure across southern Britain. Another fine day on

:25:07. > :25:13.Wednesday. Perhaps a bit breezy as we see some showers turn up from the

:25:14. > :25:18.North West. Let's look at that cloud picture. Still some more to come,

:25:19. > :25:23.even though there are breaks in the clouds. The rain that is coming out

:25:24. > :25:28.of Southern Ireland is still heading our way, so do not expect too much

:25:29. > :25:32.of a clearance. Perhaps some of the mist and fog will clear out of the

:25:33. > :25:35.way by tomorrow morning. Lest this ability but still a lot of clouds

:25:36. > :25:43.and patchy rain around to stop `` less visibility. The winds become

:25:44. > :25:48.northwesterly, and that brings us pressure air and slightly colder air

:25:49. > :25:52.as well, so by the end of the night, South Coast temperatures will

:25:53. > :25:57.probably be no lower than 12 or 13. In the north coast of Devon, the

:25:58. > :26:01.colder air will follow the main line of cloud and rain. It will disappear

:26:02. > :26:04.through the day tomorrow, which means the sunshine will be back out.

:26:05. > :26:08.The best of the sunshine will be just before it is getting dark. A

:26:09. > :26:15.chilly nights to come tomorrow night. Temperatures are lower than

:26:16. > :26:19.they have been, 12, maybe 13 the highest temperature. A brisk

:26:20. > :26:22.northerly breeze will make it feel colder than that. What's the clouds

:26:23. > :26:26.in a few spots of rain it out of the way through the morning, there will

:26:27. > :26:32.be a better chance to see the sun in the afternoon. Winds from the north,

:26:33. > :26:44.fine and dry, with very good visibility. Times of high water:

:26:45. > :26:50.the winds are from the north or North West tomorrow. Mainly fair

:26:51. > :26:57.with generally good visibility. I said I would mention Friday's

:26:58. > :27:00.forecast. Friday is largely dry and pretty quiet, with a wind from the

:27:01. > :27:04.north or North West for the good news for Pudsey. Have a good

:27:05. > :27:08.evening. That's all from us for now. We'll

:27:09. > :27:11.leave you this evening with a reminder of how the region stopped

:27:12. > :27:14.and remembered on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

:27:15. > :27:15.Goodbye. Good night.
