:00:17. > :01:11.Other to local airlines have announced plans to work together on

:01:12. > :01:15.the inter`island route. Only Blue Island's planes would be

:01:16. > :01:18.used, but both companies would take bookings. After years of competing

:01:19. > :01:27.on the route, both parties agree they're stronger together. Amy

:01:28. > :01:30.Harris reports. Two separate airlines, competing on

:01:31. > :01:33.one inter`island route. But both are losing money, so Aurigny and Blue

:01:34. > :01:35.Islands believe the best option is to work together.

:01:36. > :01:39.We're acutely aware that we're making losses on the Guernsey and

:01:40. > :01:42.Jersey route, there's a lot of seats in the market place and this is

:01:43. > :01:45.really a way of being able to preserve competition, preserve that

:01:46. > :01:48.choice of airline to buy your ticket with but to rationalise and

:01:49. > :01:50.harmonise the actual cost of the operation.

:01:51. > :01:53.The airlines plan to use Blue Islands 46`seater ATR planes but

:01:54. > :01:55.seats would be priced and sold separately.

:01:56. > :01:58.Today at Guernsey Airport there were mixed reactions from passengers.

:01:59. > :02:02.I think it sounds like a money`saver and a good idea. I understand why

:02:03. > :02:07.but it is a shame. I don't think it's a good idea as I've just tried

:02:08. > :02:10.to get on a flight and it's fully booked so it doesn't seem to have

:02:11. > :02:13.the capacity at the moment. Under the agreement, Blue Islands

:02:14. > :02:16.would operate up to seven return flights a day during the week,

:02:17. > :02:19.between Guernsey Airport here and Jersey, with seven at the weekends.

:02:20. > :02:21.But first they need approval from CICRA, the Channel Islands

:02:22. > :02:23.Competition and Regulation Authority.

:02:24. > :02:26.We've had quite firm commitments from the airlines that if this

:02:27. > :02:29.proposal does go forward they will continue to sell the seats very

:02:30. > :02:32.separately with different fare structures and prices and terms and

:02:33. > :02:35.conditions and that the separate frequent flyer schemes and corporate

:02:36. > :02:39.schemes would continue to apply so there will be a degree of

:02:40. > :02:42.competition still remaining. And because of that competition, the

:02:43. > :02:48.airlines insist it shouldn't cost any more to buy a ticket.

:02:49. > :02:51.I think you can expect prices to stay more or less where they are.

:02:52. > :02:55.We're still going to be very much competing with Blue Islands, on some

:02:56. > :02:58.days customers will see an advantage on booking with Blue Islands, on

:02:59. > :03:02.other days they'll see advantages of booking with us. It'll be down to

:03:03. > :03:04.the best deal people can do on the day.

:03:05. > :03:07.A public consultation is now underway and then, if CICRA grants

:03:08. > :03:10.permission, the new service could be taking off within months. If it

:03:11. > :03:13.doesn't, these airlines have the difficult task of coming up with

:03:14. > :03:23.alternative ways to reduce their losses.

:03:24. > :03:26.No Jersey clergy will face disciplinary action over how a

:03:27. > :03:29.woman's complaint of abuse against a churchwarden was handled. The Dean,

:03:30. > :03:32.the Right Reverend Bob Key, was suspended for two months over the

:03:33. > :03:35.matter earlier this year. A judge`led inquiry into the

:03:36. > :03:40.allegations is ongoing. And the Dean of Jersey will be live

:03:41. > :03:45.on BBC Radio Jersey at 8am tomorrow morning.

:03:46. > :03:48.The credit ratings agency Standard Poor's has given Jersey one of the

:03:49. > :03:50.highest international credit ratings. The island has an AA+

:03:51. > :03:54.rating, which the Treasury Minister says will allow the island to borrow

:03:55. > :04:01.?250 million for new housing over the next ten years.

:04:02. > :04:04.Jersey women with breast cancer can now have surgery in the island after

:04:05. > :04:07.the appointment of a specialist surgeon at the hospital. Consultant

:04:08. > :04:10.Matthew Stephenson has come to Jersey with 17 years experience.

:04:11. > :04:16.Cancer patients have welcomed the move. Tim Robinson reports.

:04:17. > :04:20.Joanah De Castro was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was just 26.

:04:21. > :04:23.Two weeks after hearing the news she was flown to the UK for a

:04:24. > :04:27.mastectomy. A month later ` she started chemo.

:04:28. > :04:32.The biggest moment for me was losing my hair. The moment I broke down and

:04:33. > :04:35.cried, was probably that morning when I woke up, my scalp was

:04:36. > :04:40.burning, like a burning sensation that I'd never felt in my life, and

:04:41. > :04:50.I woke up, and pretty much a lot of my hair was on the pillow. That was

:04:51. > :04:53.the moment I broke down. Joanah has been incredibly strong.

:04:54. > :04:56.That's one of only three times she's cried throughout her treatment. But

:04:57. > :05:00.she says the battle against cancer would be easier to fight at home.

:05:01. > :05:03.The appointment of a new surgeon at Jersey Hospital means that option is

:05:04. > :05:07.now open to Jersey women. It means they won't have to travel

:05:08. > :05:10.away from their homes or from their families, during a very difficult

:05:11. > :05:13.time. I think it's also very important because there is a big

:05:14. > :05:16.myth that you have to go to London for the best treatment, but actually

:05:17. > :05:21.we'll be providing 21st`century first`class health care here at home

:05:22. > :05:24.in Jersey. One of the first women to have

:05:25. > :05:27.breast cancer surgery on the Island is States Deputy Kristina Moore `

:05:28. > :05:35.she was diagnosed just four weeks ago.

:05:36. > :05:38.It's made a big difference for me because he's a fantastic surgeon,

:05:39. > :05:42.and it's much better to be able to drive ten minutes back to your house

:05:43. > :05:50.rather than having to get on and off planes and taxis and in and out of

:05:51. > :05:54.hotels. Joanah is now in recovery, Kristina

:05:55. > :05:57.is about to begin chemotherapy. A new surgeon won't stop breast cancer

:05:58. > :06:00.treatment from being an ordea, but for the next Jersey patients ` the

:06:01. > :06:08.burden should be slightly easier to bear.

:06:09. > :06:10.50% of adults in Jersey have no confidence in the island's

:06:11. > :06:14.government ` that's according to the results of a states survey. The

:06:15. > :06:17.Jersey Annual Social Survey had 2,000 responses this year, and also

:06:18. > :06:25.showed that 55% of men and 40% of women are classed as overweight. The

:06:26. > :06:30.rate of obesity is not as high here as in the rest of UK but it is still

:06:31. > :06:35.higher than it should be and it is on the way up. We know things like

:06:36. > :06:42.waist measurement as a protector of heart degrees. `` heart disease.

:06:43. > :06:46.Dibell can easily measure the waistline and we know that 17% of

:06:47. > :06:50.this Aidan O 'Brien's population are at risk of heart disease.

:06:51. > :06:53.Meanwhile, young people in Guernsey are using fewer illegal drugs, and

:06:54. > :06:56.are drinking less alcohol than they did three years ago. Guernsey's

:06:57. > :06:59.Young People's Survey says 2% of secondary school students claimed

:07:00. > :07:03.they'd had an alcoholic drink in a public place in the past week. The

:07:04. > :07:05.figure for three years ago was ten times as high.

:07:06. > :07:09.Motorists in Jersey are facing delays tonight after a hole appeared

:07:10. > :07:14.in the road at Robin Hood. Buses were diverted and engineers are now

:07:15. > :07:17.trying to find the cause. Guernsey's a newly formed language

:07:18. > :07:21.commission has been outlining what it intends to do to save Guernsey

:07:22. > :07:24.French. The petition was launched in May to make sure the language does

:07:25. > :07:28.not die out that there has been concerned that it has not been

:07:29. > :07:32.proactive enough. They are building the foundations for a three`year

:07:33. > :07:37.adult learning programme. We want people to be able to learn the

:07:38. > :07:44.programme so we are embarking on a new adult course. We are using best

:07:45. > :07:50.practice from other due respect is, similar to Scottish Gaelic, for

:07:51. > :07:53.example. People who speak the language will not be there for ever

:07:54. > :07:58.and we must record and capture them speaking that language.

:07:59. > :08:03.A couple from Jersey are celebrating a special anniversary this weekend.

:08:04. > :08:09.Hazel and Roger have been married for 17 years. They got a card from

:08:10. > :08:14.the Queen and they told our reporter by the family has yet another reason

:08:15. > :08:25.to celebrate. It has been absolutely fabulous. The cards, the telephone

:08:26. > :08:33.calls, it has all been amazing. I was surprised to receive a card from

:08:34. > :08:48.the Queen. In 1943, on Roger's birthday, we got engaged. I remember

:08:49. > :08:52.it well. But they are not the only ones celebrating. The son and

:08:53. > :09:00.daughter`in`law are about to reach the golden anniversary. It is coming

:09:01. > :09:08.up for almost 50 years as well, as the 70th wedding anniversary was

:09:09. > :09:16.going on we came up to in. Anything worth having is worth working hard

:09:17. > :09:24.towards. What is the secret killing `` staying together for so long? You

:09:25. > :09:32.can mark and cry together, that is the secret. `` laugh and cry

:09:33. > :09:39.together. You must take life as it comes.

:09:40. > :09:43.Congratulations to the both of them. Have a good celebration this

:09:44. > :09:45.weekend. The Jersey businessman, David Cox,

:09:46. > :09:58.was knighted at Windsor Castle today by the Queen. `` David Kerch. The

:09:59. > :10:01.property developer who gave shopping vouchers to Ireland members each

:10:02. > :10:08.Christmas was recognised on the Queen 's birthday list.

:10:09. > :10:15.Another cold day to day but tomorrow the wins will be lighter. It will

:10:16. > :10:19.feel slightly less cold but I cannot miss you it will be that much

:10:20. > :10:26.different, there is still that breeze from the East. Tomorrow the

:10:27. > :10:36.cold when will remain. It will be mainly dry, however. `` cold wind.

:10:37. > :10:39.It is because of our proximity to this area of low pressure that we

:10:40. > :10:44.are not getting it just quite as cold as other parts of the UK. That

:10:45. > :10:49.is dominating whether in Northern France and is still giving us a

:10:50. > :10:53.strong wind, however. Although it will ease tomorrow, that nagging

:10:54. > :10:57.wind will remain. It will stay with us into Sunday although the winds

:10:58. > :11:02.will be lighter then. Showers will be possible but they will be

:11:03. > :11:07.isolated and it is a cold night overnight, overnight temperatures

:11:08. > :11:11.around four or five Celsius. After the rest of the few morning showers,

:11:12. > :11:15.tomorrow they will be some brighter weather and some sunshine. Every now

:11:16. > :11:20.and then the cloud will be thick enough to generate a shower. Winds

:11:21. > :11:27.not as strong as they have been today with a top temperature of nine

:11:28. > :11:42.degrees. Here is your coastal waters forecast...

:11:43. > :11:50.For Sunday, there is still quite a lot of cloud around with some spells

:11:51. > :11:54.of sunshine between these bands of cloud and then more cloud arrives on

:11:55. > :12:00.Monday and Tuesday. That will not change the weather partner much, we

:12:01. > :12:05.still have those North West winds. There will be similar temperatures

:12:06. > :12:10.of around nine or 10 Celsius. Time for Spotlight. Goodbye.

:12:11. > :14:26.Time for the sport now. The owner of the Cornish Pirates has denied that

:14:27. > :14:29.his stepping aside will herald the end of professional rugby in

:14:30. > :14:34.Cornwall. Dicky Evans has made the decision to take a back seat after

:14:35. > :14:38.20 years at the helm. He now wants shareholders to step up and play

:14:39. > :14:46.their part to keep the club going. Andy Birkett has been talking to the

:14:47. > :14:49.Kenya based businessman. When Dicky Evans announced he was

:14:50. > :14:54.stepping aside, many in Cornwall wondered if this was the beginning

:14:55. > :15:00.of the end. I will still continue to sponsor the club at I do not have

:15:01. > :15:03.the time or, frankly, at the moment, the energy to carry on trying to

:15:04. > :15:08.keep an eye on everything. We are hoping to put in place a proper

:15:09. > :15:11.board, a board of direct is, representing the shareholders. We

:15:12. > :15:15.deliberately kept the subscription to a low level so nobody can own

:15:16. > :15:19.this club. So what they are getting is a club in the upper reaches of

:15:20. > :15:26.the championship with a stadium, probably available 2017, 2018, plus

:15:27. > :15:29.support from me going forward, but are actually don't have the time now

:15:30. > :15:34.to be involved on a day`to`day basis with the running of the club. But at

:15:35. > :15:40.the moment, what stadium? Nobody is willing to pay for the site held at

:15:41. > :15:45.the moment outside Truro. Three of us paid for the design of the

:15:46. > :15:48.stadium. It cost 40 million. What we don't have is the silver spoon in

:15:49. > :15:53.the mouth that perhaps other clubs have had, whereby they could sell a

:15:54. > :15:59.ground and start off with 50 million`plus to build a stadium. It

:16:00. > :16:03.is a bit cheeky but it is very easy to spend another man's money. People

:16:04. > :16:08.might say, he has got hundreds of millions of pounds. What difference

:16:09. > :16:13.does it make if he pays for this himself? And you are cheeky! That is

:16:14. > :16:18.not fair. I don't have that money. If I did, I would pay for a stadium.

:16:19. > :16:22.That is not to say that if a stadium doesn't come at the right time and

:16:23. > :16:25.eye can liquidate the assets I have currently around the world at a

:16:26. > :16:29.profit that I might not put some money in, but I don't have that

:16:30. > :16:37.money to hand. But the council dials and last year it voted against using

:16:38. > :16:40.public money to fund it. I think you are well aware I was in tears when

:16:41. > :16:43.they voted against the stadium because we had an agreement with the

:16:44. > :16:45.council that they would provide a stadium and eye would provide the

:16:46. > :16:52.team. I've kept my side of the bargain and they did not keep

:16:53. > :16:58.theirs. `` I would. The council was clear that public funding would not

:16:59. > :17:03.be used for the stadium, it said. He flew in from his home in Kenya last

:17:04. > :17:08.week to watch his beloved pirates. I was in Jersey not just for the rugby

:17:09. > :17:16.but to talk to the family, the people who have forked out all this

:17:17. > :17:20.money. They think I'm mad. But they did me proud when I was a kid so you

:17:21. > :17:22.have to look after people on the way up because you might need them on

:17:23. > :17:26.the way down. The Cornish Pirates are at home to

:17:27. > :17:29.second`placed Bristol on Sunday. Tonight, Plymouth Albion go in

:17:30. > :17:32.search of their first home win of the season against Bedford, who've

:17:33. > :17:35.lost seven of their first eight. In the Premiership, the Exeter

:17:36. > :17:38.Chiefs host the leaders Saracens at Sandy Park tomorrow. The Londoners

:17:39. > :17:41.have lost just once all season in the League, while the Chiefs, with

:17:42. > :17:43.only two defeats, have come against top four sides Northampton and

:17:44. > :17:46.Leicester. Onto football, and Yeovil Town and

:17:47. > :17:49.Torquay United have chances to ease their relegation fears this weekend.

:17:50. > :18:00.Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle both face teams chasing promotion. Alan

:18:01. > :18:10.Richardson has a look head to the weekend's action. Your Vail can look

:18:11. > :18:17.to improving. But others will be looking for a repeat of last year's

:18:18. > :18:22.2`1 win over the Rovers. Tomorrow, there is a relegation six pointer in

:18:23. > :18:27.deep to from the manager as they look to move out of the bottom to at

:18:28. > :18:33.Accrington Stanley's expense. Exeter city look for their first win in

:18:34. > :18:37.six. Watch Dale could go top. Plymouth Argyle look to extend their

:18:38. > :18:48.unbeaten run to seven games and they host Dagenham Redbridge. Pupils at

:18:49. > :18:51.a school in Exeter are helping to provide lives at a soup kitchen for

:18:52. > :18:56.the homeless. Even more impressive is the fact that the youngsters are

:18:57. > :18:59.growing the ingredients in their own garden. John Henderson has been to

:19:00. > :19:00.see them digging, cooking and delivering school meals with a

:19:01. > :19:20.difference. Ready, go! Josh and Joe getting

:19:21. > :19:33.stuck in. First task, pull up some vegetables. Wait! ID and you pull!

:19:34. > :19:37.The boys are a `` are pupils at a school for children with various

:19:38. > :19:44.complex needs and abilities. This garden is a great place to learn.

:19:45. > :19:55.Leeks picked, it is time to get them inside. This is heavy! I will

:19:56. > :20:02.splatter it all over! I dropped one! Dropped it! A careful wash... Then

:20:03. > :20:09.slice and dice. This is going into a vegetable soup for homeless people.

:20:10. > :20:16.It means people can get food if they have not got a home. This is tasty.

:20:17. > :20:25.And they don't have to find food. They can go and get free food and it

:20:26. > :20:29.keeps them warm. For their teachers, it is an exercise in understanding

:20:30. > :20:34.where food comes from and working as a team to prepare it. And also an

:20:35. > :20:39.understanding of themselves as part of the wider community. And perhaps

:20:40. > :20:41.there are others less fortunate than themselves and then maybe by growing

:20:42. > :20:45.vegetables and cooking food, they can help these people. Lend it up,

:20:46. > :20:54.the young chefs are happy with their work. Do you like it? Yeah. What do

:20:55. > :21:03.you think the homeless people will say? Good! And a few hours later, a

:21:04. > :21:07.dozen or so people coming off the streets. It is cold outside and hot

:21:08. > :21:15.meal is just what they need. Super hits the spot. It is with vegetarian

:21:16. > :21:20.all Beacon, even, and with it being local vegetables, it is fantastic.

:21:21. > :21:24.And it is all seasonal. Early on. Really nice, warm, friendly

:21:25. > :21:31.environment to be in. And for all their efforts, they have won ?500

:21:32. > :21:34.from the recent community awards by the University of Exeter. The plan

:21:35. > :21:42.is to spend the money on another poly tunnel to keep the food coming

:21:43. > :21:45.and Josh and Joe Busey. It's scared generations of

:21:46. > :21:49.youngsters ` and some adults, for that matter ` and this weekend

:21:50. > :21:51.celebrates its 50th anniversary. All over the world, audiences will

:21:52. > :21:55.simultaneously enjoy a special episode of Doctor Who to mark the

:21:56. > :21:58.milestone. The programme has millions of fans who know everything

:21:59. > :22:02.there is know about the Time Lord, his companions and his foes. But in

:22:03. > :22:04.Somerset, there's one follower who maybe the biggest fan of all.

:22:05. > :22:20.Clinton Rogers has been to meet him. To call Tom Jessops a fan is, well,

:22:21. > :22:24.an understatement. In a bedroom which is a shrine to the Time Lord,

:22:25. > :22:25.Tom has been glued to his TV screen watching every available Dr Who

:22:26. > :22:45.episode from the past 50 years. Don't be alarmed. Come from a land

:22:46. > :22:53.far away. Actually, no, I've just come from my office in Taunton!

:22:54. > :23:00.Obvious question first ` white? Why watch every single episode? Well,

:23:01. > :23:05.back in 2010, I realised we were only a few years ago from the

:23:06. > :23:13.anniversary season, so I thought, yeah, 2013, the 50th anniversary...

:23:14. > :23:16.So, hang on, you prepped this? Yes. But this is TV viewing in the

:23:17. > :23:27.extreme. 798 episodes. 3,000 hours of TV, averaging, he says, four

:23:28. > :23:32.episodes a day. Obsessed or just? Obsessed fan! The cinema worker from

:23:33. > :23:39.Yeovil has met all of the surviving 13 doctors over the past 13 years.

:23:40. > :23:43.Colin Baker is his favourite, you sense. Look at this! Oh, and he also

:23:44. > :23:53.has a wardrobe full of costumes he's either bought or had made. And, here

:23:54. > :23:59.it is... My favourite. Colin Baker! That is bright! Oh, yes. Probably

:24:00. > :24:03.the best`dressed man in Yeovil, who will be dressing as the Doctor when

:24:04. > :24:13.he goes to work at Yeovil cinema on Saturday for a big`screen showing of

:24:14. > :24:19.a special anniversary episode. Now, that is dedication, isn't it?!

:24:20. > :24:23.It is time for the weather. We seem to have a bit of a problem tonight

:24:24. > :24:31.because David is not here... Anybody got a number for him? He is making a

:24:32. > :24:36.spectacular arrival! LAUGHTER

:24:37. > :24:43.Who knew you got here like that?! No expense was spent on that at all! I

:24:44. > :24:48.don't think the real doctor has anything to worry about whatsoever!

:24:49. > :24:53.Let's just get rid of this. I will press my clicker! A bit more down to

:24:58. > :25:03.fine weather around, mist early in the day with frost, and, yes, we

:25:04. > :25:08.will get some sunshine as it is quiet and drive.

:25:16. > :25:20.the coast of Spain and Portugal and the other which could give heavy

:25:21. > :25:24.snow over the Alps. A very early ski season there. But for us, and area

:25:48. > :25:54.of us, and inland, we will see some frost forming tonight. Mist and for

:25:55. > :25:58.patches early in the day, most likely up into East Devon and

:25:59. > :26:05.Somerset. Temperatures anywhere from a few degrees above freezing down to

:26:06. > :26:12.minus two degrees. A cold start but a lovely day after that for Bob and

:26:13. > :26:16.mist has gone. More cloud drifting in towards the Isles of Scilly and

:26:17. > :26:23.West Cornwall, but for all of us, a lovely day. It is not overly warm,

:26:24. > :26:26.so do wrap`up. Temperatures of seven or eight degrees. A bit more in the

:26:27. > :26:29.way of cloud over the Isles of Scilly with the breeze from the

:26:30. > :26:36.north`east. Here are the high water times.

:26:37. > :26:49.And for our surface, not a great deal of swell, so not very big but

:26:50. > :27:02.it is clean. `` our surfers. Not a great deal of wind. So, let's look a

:27:03. > :27:05.bit further ahead. Not a great deal of change for Sunday, still fine and

:27:06. > :27:10.dry with a bit more in the way of cloud coming our way, particularly

:27:11. > :27:14.the further east you are. More cloud for Dorset and Somerset. The dry

:27:15. > :27:18.weather continues into next week but still on the cold side with the risk

:27:19. > :27:21.of some overnight frost. Have a nice weekend and back to you.

:27:35. > :27:39.We were hoping to bring you Stir Up Sunday, with the Christmas pudding

:27:40. > :27:43.being made by the Royal Navy, but it seems to be stuck in the oven! We
