:00:00. > :00:00.the middle, England's batsmen have struggled with an Australian barrage

:00:00. > :00:21.Hello, good evening. Passengers are lot

:00:22. > :00:24.Hello, good evening. Passengers are struggling to get to and from the

:00:25. > :00:28.islands tonight as flights are being disrupted after problems at Gatwick

:00:29. > :00:31.Airport. This was the scene at there a short time ago. All flights into

:00:32. > :00:34.Guernsey are expect to arrive but the airport will stay open late to

:00:35. > :00:37.cope with delays. British Airways flights to Jersey are badly

:00:38. > :00:41.disrupted. Three flights are still trying to leave the island and four

:00:42. > :00:45.flights have yet to arrive. The airport says they will stay open as

:00:46. > :00:47.long as they can to get people home for Christmas.

:00:48. > :00:51.It's claimed a new ship being built for Condor won't be able to fit into

:00:52. > :00:54.Weymouth Harbour. The company, which serves Guernsey and Jersey with the

:00:55. > :00:58.UK and France, aren't commenting but business leaders in the Dorset town

:00:59. > :01:01.say it would have a severe impact on businesses there and on passengers

:01:02. > :01:04.wanting to travel to and from the Channel Islands.

:01:05. > :01:08.The Condor Vitesse moored up in Weymouth. This ship was built in

:01:09. > :01:13.1998 but this is the one it's thought Condor want to buy. However

:01:14. > :01:16.according to the local paper in Weymouth the ship, being built in

:01:17. > :01:19.Australia, won't fit into the harbour there, which would have a

:01:20. > :01:29.knock on effect on Guernsey and Jersey. A lot of holiday`makers from

:01:30. > :01:34.the UK do filter through here on the way to the Channel Islands on

:01:35. > :01:37.holiday. A lot of the locals here take regular holidays on the Channel

:01:38. > :01:40.Islands so it is important for them to have it. It is important for the

:01:41. > :01:45.town and it shows confidence that Condor want to stay there and it

:01:46. > :01:49.allows them to bring a lot more people across at a time.

:01:50. > :01:52.Business leaders say in Dorset say the town is still recovering from

:01:53. > :01:56.the forced closure of Weymouth port last year. Problems with the harbour

:01:57. > :01:59.wall led to Condor being forced to move some of its services to Poole

:02:00. > :02:01.further up the coast. Condor aren't commenting but say

:02:02. > :02:04.they're still in talks with shipbuilders. The company are also

:02:05. > :02:07.still in negotiations with the States in Guernsey and Jersey about

:02:08. > :02:12.future services between the Channel Islands and the UK.

:02:13. > :02:19.Guernsey's incumbent bus operator has had its contract extended with

:02:20. > :02:22.the States until March 2015. The Environment Department says changing

:02:23. > :02:25.bus operators for just a year, starting from April 2014, wouldn't

:02:26. > :02:28.be a good use of taxpayers money. However the department says the

:02:29. > :02:30.formal tendering process for a bus service beyond March 2015 is now

:02:31. > :02:34.underway. A listed Church has been given

:02:35. > :02:38.permission to be converted into homes and offices. The Methodist

:02:39. > :02:43.Zion Chapel was used in a teenage `` built in 1881 and last used in 010.

:02:44. > :02:46.Proceeds from the development will be kept in the island.

:02:47. > :02:52.Work to make St Aubin safer for cyclists and walkers has begun.

:02:53. > :02:55.Roads will be made smaller and the speed limit lowered to make it

:02:56. > :02:58.easier for people to pass through the Jersey village safely. The

:02:59. > :03:02.constable says the work is about striking a balance for drivers and

:03:03. > :03:06.people on bike or foot. There have been complaints over a

:03:07. > :03:11.long period of time about traffic that drives too fast, conflict

:03:12. > :03:15.between cyclists, pedestrians and cars and really we just wanted to

:03:16. > :03:21.have a scheme that was going to try and solve some of those issues and I

:03:22. > :03:23.think this does in many ways. Let us get that all`important
