:00:00. > :00:10.extended interview with her. But now on BBC One, it's time for the

:00:11. > :00:14.Good evening. Guernsey's police chief has been

:00:15. > :00:16.cleared of gross misconduct after a five month investigation. It

:00:17. > :00:19.followed allegations made by a member of staff at the Border Agency

:00:20. > :00:21.about his behaviour at an operational meeting in France.

:00:22. > :00:32.Allegations which the investigation's concluded were

:00:33. > :00:35.unfounded. I fully endorse Patrick Rice as Guernsey's head of Loren

:00:36. > :00:38.Forstmann. He came here to do a difficult job at a difficult time

:00:39. > :00:40.and has many achievements to be proud of.

:00:41. > :00:47.A message of support for Guernsey's Head of Law Enforcement after months

:00:48. > :00:51.of investigation into his conduct. The rumours about his conduct in

:00:52. > :00:54.respect of this and other matters are understood by the board to be

:00:55. > :01:02.unfounded and potentially damaging to the reputation of Mr Rice. The

:01:03. > :01:05.police and the GBA. It is now for us all to support him in continuing to

:01:06. > :01:08.deliver first`class law enforcement for Guernsey. The trouble started

:01:09. > :01:12.for Patrick Rice after a working trip in France, when a member of the

:01:13. > :01:16.Border Agency made allegations about his behaviour. In an open letter to

:01:17. > :01:17.the public today, he gave further details of those allegations,

:01:18. > :01:43.saying: He also warned that he'll take legal

:01:44. > :01:47.action if necessary to challenge any more rumours moving forward. But for

:01:48. > :01:55.the Home Department, with his name cleared, that's the end of the

:01:56. > :01:58.matter. Situations like this do happen from time to time but we want

:01:59. > :02:02.to be able to minimise those situations, to deal with any

:02:03. > :02:05.allegations appropriately, which we have done, and to move on so that we

:02:06. > :02:09.have first`class law enforcement services Patrick Rice may not have

:02:10. > :02:12.wanted to face the media today. . But having faced up to the

:02:13. > :02:15.allegations made against him, and been cleared of them, he does say

:02:16. > :02:21.he's looking forward to getting on with his day job.

:02:22. > :02:24.Guernsey's Health and Social Services Board has survived a vote

:02:25. > :02:27.of no confidence by a large majority. The motion was brought

:02:28. > :02:29.after the Minister, Mark Dorey, admitted giving misleading

:02:30. > :02:33.information about the Island's bowel cancer screening programme. But

:02:34. > :02:36.today, Deputies voted ten in favour, 34 against ousting the whole HSSD

:02:37. > :02:41.board after almost a full day's debate.

:02:42. > :02:44.Also today in the States, Deputies have set up a committee to review

:02:45. > :02:47.Guernsey's constitutional relationship with the UK. That

:02:48. > :02:50.review will include seeking clarification on whether the UK TV

:02:51. > :02:55.licence fee should be charged in the Bailiwick.

:02:56. > :02:58.A former Jersey magistrate jailed for fraud is fighting an order to

:02:59. > :03:02.pay compensation to an elderly victim of his scheme. Ian Christmas

:03:03. > :03:06.was jailed for 15 months in 201 for a multi`million pound property

:03:07. > :03:09.fraud. Three other men were also convicted and sent to prison.

:03:10. > :03:14.Christmas' lawyers appeared in court today to appeal the ?100,000

:03:15. > :03:18.compensation order. The hearing continues tomorrow.

:03:19. > :03:21.Jersey's launched its biggest drive yet to get more unemployed people

:03:22. > :03:25.back to work. This was a workshop earlier designed to get those out of

:03:26. > :03:28.work trained up for the hospitality sector in time for the tourist

:03:29. > :03:31.season. Latest figures show there are currently 1,750 people looking

:03:32. > :03:37.for work, the lowest total since October 2012.

:03:38. > :03:41.A Guernsey retailer says its profits have increased since it started

:03:42. > :03:44.stocking Tesco products. Bosses at Alliance claim takings have gone up

:03:45. > :03:47.by 10% and aren't ruling out expansion. Meanwhile, Costcutter

:03:48. > :03:51.looks set to replace some Spar stores in Jersey. Mike Wilkins

:03:52. > :03:53.reports on the changing face of Channel Islands retail.

:03:54. > :03:58.This Guernsey company has been trading in the Island for more than

:03:59. > :04:02.30 years. And now it could be in a position to expand. It's struck a

:04:03. > :04:07.long`term deal with one of the world's biggest retailers, Tesco.

:04:08. > :04:10.For the past few months, it's been trialling their products and has

:04:11. > :04:17.already seen its sales increase by 10% over the Christmas period

:04:18. > :04:21.compared to the previous year. Alliance has made no secret of the

:04:22. > :04:25.fact that it plans to stock even more Tesco products but insists

:04:26. > :04:31.it'll be keeping its name and not re`branding itself as Tesco. But

:04:32. > :04:38.while consumers choosing to buy this brand? I think it is a lot better

:04:39. > :04:42.and a lot more choice and the prices are reasonable as well which makes

:04:43. > :04:48.me want to come back and do more shopping. Very good because it's

:04:49. > :04:51.cheap and it's good stuff. I've been told they are stocking the product

:04:52. > :04:59.here same price as they are in the UK. So, yes, it would be a lot more

:05:00. > :05:02.expensive if that was a product that these guys were selling. I presume!

:05:03. > :05:05.Meanwhile, in Jersey, plans have been submitted to rebrand all 1

:05:06. > :05:08.Spar stores in the island as Costcutter, another big UK retail

:05:09. > :05:13.player, and another company that, like Tesco, prides itself on low

:05:14. > :05:21.prices. So, could this continual creep of British brands be good news

:05:22. > :05:26.for shoppers? Those consumers who are on the tightest budgets are

:05:27. > :05:33.least well served by the existing market. So the arrival of choice for

:05:34. > :05:40.consumers in the form of Tesco, given they target people on lower

:05:41. > :05:43.budgets, it is very good for consumers. As one of the world's

:05:44. > :05:46.biggest retailers, Tesco's presence in the Channel Islands is

:05:47. > :05:50.controversial. We asked Alliance if they were looking to expand, and

:05:51. > :05:56.even bring the brand to Jersey. A spokesman would only say: We are

:05:57. > :06:01.always looking for opportunity but have no plans at present.

:06:02. > :06:04.If you saw a Second World War canon on Jersey's roads today, your eyes

:06:05. > :06:08.were not deceiving you. An 88 millimetre German submarine gun was

:06:09. > :06:11.hoisted onto a fork lift truck, and taken from its usual home at the

:06:12. > :06:12.Maritime Museum to be part of Elizabeth Castle's Granite and

:06:13. > :06:25.Gunpowder exhibition. Let's get the weather forecast.

:06:26. > :06:29.Good evening. After the quiet weather of today and tonight, the

:06:30. > :06:34.weather gets pretty lively tomorrow and into the weekend. Lots

:06:35. > :06:38.happening, we have spring tides some of the highest of the year We

:06:39. > :06:48.have heavy rain forecast tomorrow as one as strong winds , so big waves.

:06:49. > :06:52.At the moment, it is all quiet. We might see perhaps by the end of the

:06:53. > :06:55.night a few light showers in Guernsey but it is mostly dry night

:06:56. > :07:01.and a cold night. Temperatures down to or four. Cold enough for a touch

:07:02. > :07:06.of frost. Initially, there's not much problem but in the morning and

:07:07. > :07:12.through the afternoon, the heavy rain turns up. There could be some

:07:13. > :07:17.fairly big waves developing. For the second half of the weekend, it comes

:07:18. > :07:22.down. We are concerned by Saturday. Strong winds, gale force, 50 or 60

:07:23. > :07:27.miles an hour. A little bit quieter on Sunday.

:07:28. > :07:29.Question Time follows the national weather on BBC One and I am back

:07:30. > :07:41.tomorrow. Good night. very good night.

:07:42. > :07:46.Good evening. As we have seen, it has been an exceptionally wet month

:07:47. > :07:51.and it is not even over yet. The final day of January promises even

:07:52. > :07:56.more heavy rain and that is not the only hazard. There could be some

:07:57. > :08:02.snow and strong winds over the next 48 hours. We have seen too many of

:08:03. > :08:07.these weather systems steaming in from the Atlantic. It is not with

:08:08. > :08:14.this yet, however. Some snow over the hills in northern England and

:08:15. > :08:19.eastern Scotland. Some mist and fog patches in the south. Many of us

:08:20. > :08:27.will start Friday Drive, however the rain is on its way and it will

:08:28. > :08:28.gradually spread its way from west to east. It is easily ten to 15
