:00:00. > :00:14.Good evening. Storm force winds are That's all from us.

:00:15. > :00:18.Good evening. Storm force winds are again battering the Channel Islands

:00:19. > :00:28.tonight, with gusts of up to 70 miles an hour predicted. Hi tides

:00:29. > :00:38.are already crashing over the sea walls. The East Coast road is

:00:39. > :00:43.closed. In Jersey motorists are advised to stay off the roads. A

:00:44. > :00:46.number of trees are down on roads around the islands. Condor Ferries

:00:47. > :00:48.has already announced that tomorrow's passenger and freight

:00:49. > :00:56.services are cancelled. Aurigny has suspended flights to and from

:00:57. > :01:05.Alderney because of gales. Jen Smith reports.

:01:06. > :01:14.This sea wall looked very different yesterday. Roy and Yvonne Bullen in

:01:15. > :01:21.Jersey had this to contend with after a wave swept into their

:01:22. > :01:24.Grouville home. It swept into our sitting room.

:01:25. > :01:27.In Guernsey, the busy east coast roads were open again today after

:01:28. > :01:36.yesterday's flooding, but parts of the west coast are still impassable.

:01:37. > :01:42.Depending on what happens tomorrow morning with the tide, there is a

:01:43. > :01:46.new flood warning out for moral and we could be back to square one. And

:01:47. > :01:49.the problems aren't just on land. Condor has cancelled sailings of the

:01:50. > :01:52.Commodore Clipper and Goodwill freight and passenger ferries

:01:53. > :01:56.because of predictions of waves over eight metres, and winds of over 50

:01:57. > :02:05.knots. And there could be more bad weather to come. Looking at the

:02:06. > :02:12.forecast for the next few days, we are still seeing unsettled

:02:13. > :02:19.veterans. And further wind. `` passions. I think that will persist

:02:20. > :02:21.into next week as well. Islanders are being advised to stay indoors

:02:22. > :02:27.tonight. Those vulnerable to flooding will hope authorities have

:02:28. > :02:30.done enough to keep nature at bay. Nominations closed this evening for

:02:31. > :02:33.position of deputies in St Helier Districts One and Two. At the Town

:02:34. > :02:37.Hall earlier, five candidates have put themselves forward for District

:02:38. > :02:40.One, four for District Two. Two by`elections were called after the

:02:41. > :02:44.resignation of deputies Shona and Trevor Pitman. Both polls will be

:02:45. > :02:48.held on Wednesday the fifth of March.

:02:49. > :02:51.Condor Ferries has signed a new five year agreement with Jersey's

:02:52. > :02:54.Government. The States had intended to tender for the service along with

:02:55. > :02:57.Guernsey, but is now allowing Condor to continue to provide ferry and

:02:58. > :03:02.freight services to the Channel Islands. The company wants to buy a

:03:03. > :03:06.bigger fast ferry to replace two ageing vessels used on the UK route.

:03:07. > :03:09.Alderney's Gambling Commission is taking steps to combat illegal

:03:10. > :03:12.betting during the Winter Olympics. The AGCC has signed a memorandum of

:03:13. > :03:15.understanding with the International Olympics Committee to alert each

:03:16. > :03:21.other to suspicious betting patterns. The island is a hub for

:03:22. > :03:26.online gambling companies. The games in Sochi in Russia get under way on

:03:27. > :03:29.Friday amidst tight security. A Jersey travel company is calling

:03:30. > :03:32.for more Government representation at overseas trade events. They

:03:33. > :03:35.believe more promotion is given to the finance sector than their own,

:03:36. > :03:39.just days after the island's Treasury Minister returned from a

:03:40. > :03:53.finance event in London. Emma Chambers reports.

:03:54. > :03:56.What can you find? Places to unwind. Places to explore.

:03:57. > :04:01.A fresh advert for 2014 showing the island in all its glory. But it s in

:04:02. > :04:04.the cold months ` like today when the beaches are empty ` that news of

:04:05. > :04:08.another visit by a Jersey minister to a finance event in London doesn't

:04:09. > :04:12.go down well with local travel companies. Robert wants the tourism

:04:13. > :04:19.industry to receive the same government representation he says

:04:20. > :04:24.the finance industry is getting I think day`to`day management is done

:04:25. > :04:31.to ourselves and our other industry partners. But what I'm talking about

:04:32. > :04:37.is visible of government coming along to events like exhibitions and

:04:38. > :04:40.trade shows in Europe and the UK, lending their support to the

:04:41. > :04:45.industry and helping them of the message. It just reinforces the

:04:46. > :04:48.message that we are trying to get across. The Minister under fire says

:04:49. > :04:54.that message is being put across through the finance sector.

:04:55. > :05:02.Finance does get a lot of promotion. But finance and tourism

:05:03. > :05:10.are interlinked. They both need each other. The hospitality sector needs

:05:11. > :05:15.to ask for help. We will help in any way we can. Jersey's government say

:05:16. > :05:19.they invest more in tourism than financial services, so is the island

:05:20. > :05:23.being sold well enough to those in the UK? We asked people in Hull

:05:24. > :05:32.today if they'd ever consider a holiday to Jersey. I have never been

:05:33. > :05:37.there. Probably, if I got the opportunity. Not too fussed. I

:05:38. > :05:40.would. So mixed reaction in visiting our

:05:41. > :05:44.shoreline. But in a better light there are suggestions UK tourism is

:05:45. > :05:50.up by nearly 4%, and hopefully Jersey can ride off the back of that

:05:51. > :05:54.wave. Meanwhile, a London university is

:05:55. > :06:01.arranging a trip to Jersey for the first time, so its students can

:06:02. > :06:07.learn about tourism. We are bringing 35 students to Jersey for four days

:06:08. > :06:12.to find out about all that is going on in terms of tourism there. Food

:06:13. > :06:19.tourism, sports tourism, heritage tourism. Jersey has a rich heritage

:06:20. > :06:25.as a tourism destination. It is fascinating for students to see how

:06:26. > :06:35.it all holds together. That is all from me. Join us tomorrow morning.

:06:36. > :06:40.The weather next. The weather is going to stay in the

:06:41. > :06:45.headlines for quite a few days to come. Some strong gusts of wind at

:06:46. > :06:51.the moment. It is the strength of wind combined with the high tide

:06:52. > :06:56.that gives us the risk of coastal flooding first thing tomorrow

:06:57. > :07:01.morning. We have seen showers through the night so far. That will

:07:02. > :07:08.be replaced with some quite heavy showers. The wind slowly becoming

:07:09. > :07:13.more south`westerly. For tomorrow the showers keep on coming.

:07:14. > :07:20.Gradually the wind will drop through the day but it will take its time.

:07:21. > :07:25.Ferry cancellations are likely. Stay tuned to your local radio station

:07:26. > :07:29.for more information. For the next few days the rain does not let up.

:07:30. > :07:31.In a minute the forecast for United for every day, including into the

:07:32. > :07:42.weekend. That is all from the Good evening. Much like the local

:07:43. > :07:46.forecast, the national picture is a stormy one in the next 24 hours The

:07:47. > :07:50.Met Office have issued an amber weather warning for strong winds

:07:51. > :07:54.across southern counties. Wilts up to Surrey in particular. There will

:07:55. > :07:58.be some transport disruption, no doubt, and it could go beyond that,

:07:59. > :08:02.so if you're travelling across the country there could be transport and

:08:03. > :08:05.power disruption and with more rain in the forecast, further flooding

:08:06. > :08:09.where areas have flooded and some very strong winds and high seas

:08:10. > :08:10.Southern
