:00:10. > :00:11.Good evening. Winter storms have all from us.

:00:12. > :00:14.Good evening. Winter storms have been pummelling the Channel Islands

:00:15. > :00:17.coastlines for a sixth day ` leaving destruction and disruption in their

:00:18. > :00:20.wake. Guernsey bore the brunt of last night's high tide ` large

:00:21. > :00:28.stretches of the east coast were off`limits, and businesses and homes

:00:29. > :00:31.were flooded. Mike Wilkins reports. Roads became rivers as St Peter Port

:00:32. > :00:35.could only stand and watch as the waves crashed over its deluged

:00:36. > :00:37.defences. 40`foot waves meant driving conditions were hazardous

:00:38. > :00:49.particularly along the island's east coast. Of Businesses and homes once

:00:50. > :00:59.again had to contend with another day of flooding.

:01:00. > :01:05.Fellows are still plenty of sea water coming over the world here and

:01:06. > :01:09.this road, another main roads is currently a passable as soon as the

:01:10. > :01:12.clean`up operation will begin. And this morning, the clean`up

:01:13. > :01:16.operation was under way at this cafe that juts into the sea. Its kitchen

:01:17. > :01:23.was knocked out of action when the waves smashed through its windows.

:01:24. > :01:27.When we first took over ten years ago or so, there was a very bad

:01:28. > :01:35.storm but we've never had one to such an extent is `` extensive

:01:36. > :01:39.damage. It's quite worrying really last night, seeing all of the waves.

:01:40. > :01:42.While businesses, homeowners and even boat owners began to count the

:01:43. > :01:51.cost of the storm damage, others found the exceptional conditions

:01:52. > :01:54.somewhat exhilarating. And along with debris washed

:01:55. > :01:58.onshore, this live dolphin stranded at Pembroke. The GSPCA spent all

:01:59. > :02:05.afternoon trying to get it back into the water. In Alderney the

:02:06. > :02:10.breakwater was put through its paces as it did its best to hold back the

:02:11. > :02:14.forces of nature. The wet and windy weather which the islands have had

:02:15. > :02:18.to contend with as seen here in Sark is set to continue, but with the

:02:19. > :02:25.tide receding we might just be over the worst of it.

:02:26. > :02:31.Well, Jersey has also felt nature's full effect over the last 24 hours.

:02:32. > :02:35.One man was taken to hospital after a wave crashed over a sea wall at

:02:36. > :02:38.Gorey Pier, hitting his car and smashing the windscreen. And

:02:39. > :02:49.properties and vessels along St Aubins Bay also suffered damage and

:02:50. > :02:53.flooding. Louise Walter reports Another night had yet another

:02:54. > :02:58.battering by the weather for the island. Roads across Jay`Z were

:02:59. > :03:02.blocked by fallen scaffolding and around 20 trees. In Saint Oban,

:03:03. > :03:13.there was flooding and damage as waves crashed over the pier and into

:03:14. > :03:19.the harbour. Come morning, and the situation wasn't much better. BBC

:03:20. > :03:25.judges is kept Pamplin went on patrol along with the closed section

:03:26. > :03:30.of the Esplanade in the West Park. You can see the conditions. Back in

:03:31. > :03:36.said Tobin, daylight reveals damage to the slipway. It's just coming to

:03:37. > :03:42.hide `` high tide at St Aubin's Bay and you can feel the force of the

:03:43. > :03:47.wind and the sea spray coming in. And as the waves rolled in, but I

:03:48. > :03:52.was anxiously kept watch over their vessels. I'm down here to trap on my

:03:53. > :03:55.boat. It was still there last night and

:03:56. > :04:07.I'm hoping it's still going to be there after this. The bairns have

:04:08. > :04:11.took the railings out. As the tides retreated, they

:04:12. > :04:15.revealed damage at Saint Catherine 's. It is thought to repair work to

:04:16. > :04:21.the islands sea defences could cost up to ?200,000.

:04:22. > :04:23.Of course, the stormy condition have also affected travel, shipping and

:04:24. > :04:28.freight services, meaning shortage of supplies around the islands. Emma

:04:29. > :04:32.Chambers reports on the businesses effected, and what insurance

:04:33. > :04:35.implications there could be. Stormy weather means empty shelves

:04:36. > :04:40.in supermarkets across the Channel Islands. Shipping companies

:04:41. > :04:43.cancelled overnight boats yesterday. So food normally imported in from

:04:44. > :04:52.the UK didn't arrive, leaving customers having to make alternative

:04:53. > :04:58.if choices. It has caused a problem. We've got a

:04:59. > :05:01.lot of fresh product that was on the vessel of this morning. Customers

:05:02. > :05:05.will notice some fresh items like bread, and poultry.

:05:06. > :05:18.And it wasn't just food deliveries affected.

:05:19. > :05:23.Force nine, forced ten. If you get the option of not true, it's

:05:24. > :05:29.probably safer for the ship and from `` for the car go. It's not a good

:05:30. > :05:33.idea to transport stuff and safely. But this is about the first

:05:34. > :05:39.disruption in what's been a really, really bad stormy season. It's

:05:40. > :05:44.thought the strong waves have only caused today of delays the shipping

:05:45. > :05:51.but the damage it's left behind to even some of the most unusual places

:05:52. > :05:53.could be more costly. . Emergency calls will change to insurance

:05:54. > :05:58.enquiries, storm victims finding out if they're covered.

:05:59. > :06:02.If you discover damage to your home or car, you need to reported to your

:06:03. > :06:08.insurance company straightaway. Even if you're not sure how much damage

:06:09. > :06:13.there is, less than no and they can give you advice. You can expect your

:06:14. > :06:15.insurance policy to cover damage caused by storm.

:06:16. > :06:17.Condor services will resume tomorrow, and freight deliveries are

:06:18. > :06:22.expected for Friday, so the shelves won't be too empty for long.

:06:23. > :06:27.That's it from me, on a day the weather has dominated the news

:06:28. > :06:30.agenda. Here's the forecast for what's coming next weather`wise with

:06:31. > :06:36.David and the national weather follows him.

:06:37. > :06:41.Hello. After the storm of last night, it was, overnight tonight.

:06:42. > :06:46.Still breezy initially but winds will drop and it has a quieter day

:06:47. > :06:51.tomorrow but there is no rain coming up from the South surveillance

:06:52. > :06:56.rather than wind. A few showers dotted around overnight but most of

:06:57. > :07:16.those will fade away and it becomes largely dry with lighter winds and a

:07:17. > :07:18.hint of what's to come as we see more cloud coming from the South.

:07:19. > :07:20.Five to six degrees minimum temperature. Much of tomorrow wet

:07:21. > :07:22.and windy weather southeasterly wind slowly becoming south`westerly with

:07:23. > :07:25.temperatures up to about 10 degrees. We are concerned about what the

:07:26. > :07:26.winds could overnight. We could have gusts of wind from the

:07:27. > :07:29.north`westerly direction and then on Friday, a bright day with no wet

:07:30. > :07:38.weather later in the day. That's all from me.

:07:39. > :07:45.As you have just heard, the little respite between one storm system and

:07:46. > :07:49.another and it is that cumulative effect which will cause further

:07:50. > :07:57.problems in the coming days with risks of flooding and further damage

:07:58. > :08:01.and destruction. This area of cloud is Saturday's potential stormy

:08:02. > :08:05.weather. Before that we have clout to the north west of Spain and

:08:06. > :08:11.Portugal which will come our way tomorrow. That is hot on the heels

:08:12. > :08:15.of this area of cloud. It is still with us at the moment. The winds are

:08:16. > :08:22.easing down, but there are still some gusty winds in the central

:08:23. > :08:28.belt. It is wet and windy in Shetland, but compared to today the

:08:29. > :08:33.winds will be much lighter. It will be a chilly night into tomorrow

:08:34. > :08:37.morning with a touch of frost here and there. For Scotland, Northern

:08:38. > :08:41.Ireland and northern parts of England it should be pleasant enough

:08:42. > :08:44.with dry and bright weather.
