:00:00. > :00:10.Good evening. Once again the Channel millimetres of rain in

:00:11. > :00:14.Good evening. Once again the Channel Islands have been battered by strong

:00:15. > :00:17.winds and high tides tonight. Jersey's Met office issued a severe

:00:18. > :00:20.weather warning earlier. This evening, some flights into and out

:00:21. > :00:24.of Alderney, Guernsey and Jersey airport were cancelled because of

:00:25. > :00:37.the high winds. Roads were closed and trees came down. Louise Walter

:00:38. > :00:41.reports. It contains some flashing images. Another night, same old

:00:42. > :00:44.weather. This was the scene along Jersey's Victoria Avenue earlier as

:00:45. > :00:48.waves crashed over the sea wall throwing debris with it. The dual

:00:49. > :00:53.carriageway was closed in both directions at rush hour leading to

:00:54. > :00:56.long tailbacks. In Guernsey Bulwer Avenue was shut due to flooding at

:00:57. > :01:00.Richmond Corner and this was the scene on the Perelle coast road as

:01:01. > :01:09.debris came over the sea wall in force nine winds. Tonight Jersey Met

:01:10. > :01:13.say gusts of up to 67 miles an hour were recorded at Alderney airport

:01:14. > :01:16.and 73 miles an hour at Jersey's St Helier harbour. Forecasters say the

:01:17. > :01:19.strength of the wind is now decreasing, but yet more bad weather

:01:20. > :01:26.is expected over the next few days. This was the scene in Guernsey

:01:27. > :01:32.assured while ago. Bull were Avenue was shut as part of the bad

:01:33. > :01:40.weather. Our reporter gave us this update. It is coming down now, but

:01:41. > :01:44.earlier on the 70 miles an hour winds created huge waves, leaving

:01:45. > :01:50.debris scattered across the coast road. It was the same on the East

:01:51. > :01:55.Coast. Elsewhere, the gale force winds brought down trees inland

:01:56. > :02:00.blocking roads and stopped planes flying from the airport. The police

:02:01. > :02:13.have set up dedicated weather numbers.

:02:14. > :02:21.New figures have revealed that 0% of the cases of the sexual infection

:02:22. > :02:26.chlamydia go undetected in Guernsey. It has prompted calls for a

:02:27. > :02:33.dedicated screening `` screening on the island. They either health

:02:34. > :02:37.conditions which few talk openly about, sexually transmitted

:02:38. > :02:42.infections. Here at this sexual health clinic in Guernsey there is

:02:43. > :02:45.one infection on the rise. The number of cases of chlamydia

:02:46. > :02:50.diagnosed here is at its highest for more than half a decade. Guernsey's

:02:51. > :02:58.and your health report says it is likely that up to 10% of sexually

:02:59. > :03:02.active people aged between 16 and 25 are infected with chlamydia. It

:03:03. > :03:07.could be the tip of the iceberg as many more go undetected. We know we

:03:08. > :03:12.are underestimating the number of cases in chlamydia in Guernsey. If

:03:13. > :03:19.we look at the numbers we diagnose, and estimate our rates of infection,

:03:20. > :03:26.we think we are missing about 7 `90% of cases in the 16`25 `year`old age

:03:27. > :03:31.group. This is why we need a screening programme. A sexual health

:03:32. > :03:36.strategy is currently being drafted. It is hoping to encourage more

:03:37. > :03:41.people to get themselves checked. I am in one of the clinic rooms which

:03:42. > :03:46.is quite an intimidating place. However, you can take the swap

:03:47. > :03:51.yourself in the toilet and hand it down to the desk. There are plans to

:03:52. > :03:55.roll this out if the sexual health strategy is approved so people can

:03:56. > :04:01.do this at home and send it in the post. Poor sexual health is costly.

:04:02. > :04:07.Treating chlamydia and its knock`on effects caused the islands around

:04:08. > :04:10.?100,000 a year. The health and social services department says it

:04:11. > :04:16.will consider finding a screening programme, but only once the sexual

:04:17. > :04:19.health strategy has been finalised. For now the sexually transmitted

:04:20. > :04:26.infections remain a significant issue for Guernsey. It has been more

:04:27. > :04:30.than ten years since fire destroyed a hotel ongoing deposit back south

:04:31. > :04:35.coast, but today plans were revealed to transform the site into a 5`star

:04:36. > :04:40.hotel. The architects behind the scheme claim it could beat the

:04:41. > :04:47.competition to claim the accolade of the Channel Islands' best hotel In

:04:48. > :04:53.September, 2003, the hotel was destroyed by a fire. A frying pan

:04:54. > :04:58.caught light and spread the fire throughout the hotel, causing the

:04:59. > :05:03.roof to collapse. But in 2012 another major fire broke out causing

:05:04. > :05:09.the building to be deemed unsafe. The bird, neglected and grumbling,

:05:10. > :05:15.the hotel has become an eyesore but if planners agree, it could be

:05:16. > :05:20.transformed. Permission was granted in 2012 for the owners to demolish

:05:21. > :05:23.the remains of the bird outbuilding and an architectural firm has

:05:24. > :05:31.submitted plans to transform the site into a 5`star hotel. This is a

:05:32. > :05:40.fantastic opportunity for Guernsey in building a tourist destination

:05:41. > :05:45.and hotel of high quality. We will do a presentation and it will be at

:05:46. > :05:50.that point that the planning board make a decision. The new hotel is

:05:51. > :05:56.designed to blend in and where possible be eco`friendly. We have

:05:57. > :06:02.used the biodiversity of the site which offsets the build of the hotel

:06:03. > :06:08.itself. The decision is now in the hands of the environment Department.

:06:09. > :06:16.Work could take two years and the project could cost in the region of

:06:17. > :06:20.?20 million. That is it for now The National weather forecast is coming

:06:21. > :06:26.up in a few moments, but first let's look at our weather forecast.

:06:27. > :06:33.The severe gales continue to affect the island, but ever so slowly the

:06:34. > :06:41.winds change direction and they slowly drop. But for the next few

:06:42. > :06:46.hours there will be gusts of wind of around 60`70 mph and very rough seas

:06:47. > :06:51.all around the islands. That is the forecast for the weekend. The winds

:06:52. > :06:55.will drop, it becomes much drier and with a sigh of relief as we move

:06:56. > :07:01.into Sunday it is a bright, mainly dry day. The showers tonight could

:07:02. > :07:08.be heavy with the odd flash of thunder and lightning. Still it is

:07:09. > :07:13.very windy first thing tomorrow morning. South`west winds by then.

:07:14. > :07:19.The winds will slowly come around a bit more westerly and continue to

:07:20. > :07:24.drop during the day. As for the forecast as we move into Sunday it

:07:25. > :07:30.is a little bit better. Saturday night into Sunday the winds continue

:07:31. > :07:31.to drop. Monday later on in the day we will see

:07:32. > :07:31.milder day by the time we get to Tuesday. From us, good night.

:07:32. > :07:35.and bright after a chilly night. I will leave you with the weekend

:07:36. > :07:43.summary for London. Let's go to the weather centre to get the national

:07:44. > :07:47.forecast. Our love hate relationship with the

:07:48. > :07:52.weather has become unbalanced this winter, I suspect there is not a lot

:07:53. > :07:58.of love left. Today's storm has not helped. It gave us 20 to 30

:07:59. > :08:02.millimetres of rain. Snow in the past few hours at lower levels in

:08:03. > :08:04.eastern Scotland. That should turn to rain again but the blizzards in

:08:05. > :08:10.the Scottish mountains will continue. This evening, it has been

:08:11. > :08:12.the wind which has been most disruptive in southern England. Met

:08:13. > :08:17.Office amber warning remains in force with gusts up to 80 miles an

:08:18. > :08:18.hour along the south coast producing big
