:00:18. > :00:21.bosses say the 1937 terminal is too close to the runway and poses a

:00:25. > :00:29.come up with alternatives including moving the runway instead. Jen Smith
:00:30. > :00:32.reports. Four years after originally asking
:00:33. > :00:37.to demolish Jersey Airport Arrivals hall, it's still standing. And looks
:00:38. > :00:40.like it will be for a while longer yet. At a planning meeting this
:00:41. > :00:51.morning the Minister Deputy Robert Duhamel delayed his decision. Ask
:00:52. > :00:53.them to come back with a further schedule... Jersey Airport's
:00:54. > :00:57.arguments have remained the same throughout this. The building's too
:00:58. > :01:00.high and as such is a safety risk, and if it remains, the civil
:01:01. > :01:03.aviation authority will be forced to impose flying restrictions that will
:01:04. > :01:06.severely impact business. But the Minister, who only listed the

:01:10. > :01:12.so today delayed his decision to explore an alternative to knocking
:01:13. > :01:21.down the hall. But some officials believe that alternative isn't
:01:22. > :01:26.realistic. He has asked for a review of the possibility of what the
:01:27. > :01:33.impact, the financial impact and environmental impact would be, of
:01:34. > :01:38.shifting the run way by however many metres required so it will take the
:01:39. > :01:42.1937 building out of the equation in terms of being an obstacle for that
:01:43. > :01:44.runway. I think it is gained to be obvious, this will not be a
:01:45. > :01:47.solution. Airport bosses say while they respect the minister's decision
:01:48. > :01:50.to delay an outcome, it could take months to get the runway plans
:01:51. > :01:55.together. And they're worried about the impact of moving the runway
:01:56. > :02:00.closer to the heart of St Peter We already know that if we will move
:02:01. > :02:04.the runway towards the north, there will be significant impact on St
:02:05. > :02:10.Peter, not only on the North, but also out on the approaches, a number
:02:11. > :02:13.of other buildings would have to be destroyed. That significantly
:02:14. > :02:16.outweighs the removal of this one building. But the decision to delay
:02:17. > :02:22.spells good news for heritage campaigners. Everyone acknowledges
:02:23. > :02:26.it is a building of national export `` importance, and they talk about
:02:27. > :02:31.British national importance. It is the last remaining, I believe,

:02:35. > :02:38.Jersey Airport hopes to start work on a new arrivals hall that meets
:02:39. > :02:41.modern safety standards by 2017 But this latest twist could see those
:02:42. > :02:46.plans struggle to get off the ground on time.
:02:47. > :02:49.Meanwhile a decision on whether a five`storey, glass`fronted office
:02:50. > :02:54.complex should be built on Jersey's seafront has also been deferred

:03:02. > :03:04.Guernsey's Chief Minister could be asked to step down, after an article

:03:08. > :03:10.Harwood's involvement in the Channel Island Stock Exchange, whilst he was
:03:11. > :03:18.also chairman of the Guernsey Financial Services Commission. It's

:03:24. > :03:26.The UK chancellor George Osborne says people in Britain who evade
:03:27. > :03:29.taxes by putting their money in undeclared offshore bank accounts
:03:30. > :03:32.will be fined double the amount they owe. A new UK government advertising
:03:33. > :03:41.campaign says they risk prosecution and jail. The Chancellor, George
:03:42. > :03:44.Osborne, had this warning. It is going to make it very clear to
:03:45. > :03:49.people but if they evade their taxes, if they hide money offshore,
:03:50. > :03:54.then we are coming after them. It is not fair for people to do that. It
:03:55. > :03:57.means that others have to pay higher taxes and ultimately, as a society,
:03:58. > :03:59.we've all got to make a contribution.
:04:00. > :04:02.For the first time, people in Guernsey will be able to buy flats
:04:03. > :04:05.at the States' new Extra Care housing developments. The old Maison

:04:16. > :04:20.Kathleen will be 101 when she moves in here. A big change from the one
:04:21. > :04:31.bedroom she lives in had her current residential home. This is the
:04:32. > :04:36.bedroom. Very nice indeed. It is so different to have so much space
:04:37. > :04:42.around. After living in one small room, and we've got two or three
:04:43. > :04:45.rooms to walk into. It's all really be quite different. Very pleasant.
:04:46. > :04:49.Allowing people to live more independently, with the extra help
:04:50. > :04:56.they need on site, is really the way States care homes are going. So we
:04:57. > :05:00.have got wider doorways, we have got lower light switches and higher
:05:01. > :05:03.sockets as well. It has all been designed for wheelchair turning
:05:04. > :05:06.circles. One of two new developments, this should be
:05:07. > :05:09.finished by the summer. And for the first time some of these flats will
:05:10. > :05:13.also be available to buy. We know there is a lot of demand, we have
:05:14. > :05:17.got 100 plus people already expressing an interest here. Partial
:05:18. > :05:19.ownership will enable people who own a property to be able to access
:05:20. > :05:23.these schemes, just like people who want to rent here. But with just ten
:05:24. > :05:26.flats available for partial ownership across the two sites and
:05:27. > :05:34.plans for another seven, demand is likely to outstrip supply. This is
:05:35. > :05:38.only a small number of flats, but we have got to start somewhere. It is
:05:39. > :05:42.useful to ascertain what the demand is, and if there is a big demand, we
:05:43. > :05:45.will look to try and do more in the future. But the reality of living
:05:46. > :05:48.here is just months away for Kathleen and it's something she s
:05:49. > :05:51.looking forward to. Finally, a quick reminder that all
:05:52. > :05:55.this week on the BBC we're remembering 100 years since the
:05:56. > :05:57.start of the First World War. Tomorrow morning on BBC Radio
:05:58. > :06:01.Guernsey and Radio Jersey we'll hear more stories of the Channel Islands
:06:02. > :06:05.connections to the conflict and the islanders who served in it. And
:06:06. > :06:08.we'll have a special report here on BBC Channel Islands News tomorrow
:06:09. > :06:12.evening at 6.30pm. But that's it from the team here for
:06:13. > :06:15.now. I'll leave you with the island's weather forecast with Owain
:06:16. > :06:21.Wyn Evans, and the national weather follows him. Goodnight.
:06:22. > :06:27.Things are turning fairly unsettled tonight as a band of rain makes its

:07:09. > :07:17.from the West, strong winds as well and sunny spells across parts of
:07:18. > :07:22.Jersey and Guernsey. Temperatures a few degrees above average. Wet and
:07:23. > :07:26.windy over the next two days but it will not be raining all the time,
:07:27. > :07:30.some brightness as well, especially on Wednesday, in between two areas

:07:34. > :07:38.will be more rain overnight into Thursday.
:07:39. > :07:44.Good evening. We have a spell of wet and windy weather working across the
:07:45. > :07:50.British Isles. Today brought many of us some decent spells of sunshine
:07:51. > :07:54.and it brought us some decent temperatures. In fact, our warmest

:08:07. > :08:10.cloud looks like a snail's shell, it is an area of low pressure that is
:08:11. > :08:13.sweeping wind and rain across us. It's pushed into the west already
:08:14. > :08:18.and is now making rapid progress eastwards, moving into eastern

:08:30. > :08:31.areas. Behind the weather front things are a good deal clearer and
:08:32. > :08:37.that is the way we will start tomorrow. Our wet and windy weather,
