:00:00. > 3:59:59That's all from us. Don't forget there's a first look at the papers

:00:00. > :00:10.Good evening. The drugs smuggler over on the BBC News

:00:11. > :00:14.Good evening. The drugs smuggler Curtis Warren has lost his appeal

:00:15. > :00:18.against a Jersey court order to hand over nearly ?200 million. The Court

:00:19. > :00:21.of Appeal in Jersey upheld the confiscation order, which followed

:00:22. > :00:25.his conviction for plotting to smuggle cannabis into the island.

:00:26. > :00:29.Liverpool`born Warren must pay the authorities the millions he's made

:00:30. > :00:38.through crime, or serve an extra ten years in prison.

:00:39. > :00:44.September 2009 and Curtis Warren leaves Jersey's Royal Court under

:00:45. > :00:48.heavy guard. The infamous drug dealer from Liverpool, once named in

:00:49. > :00:52.the Sunday Times Rich List, had been found guilty of plotting to smuggle

:00:53. > :00:57.cannabis into Jersey. Three months later and a 13 year prison sentence

:00:58. > :01:01.was handed down. Then last November, Jersey's Royal Court ordered him to

:01:02. > :01:10.hand over ?198 million of assets he had made from crime. An order Warren

:01:11. > :01:12.appealed. And today, that appeal was dismissed.

:01:13. > :01:15.The confiscation order is believed to be one of the biggest of its kind

:01:16. > :01:18.made in Europe. Prosecutors claimed Warren had invested vast profits

:01:19. > :01:21.from drug dealing in business ventures and properties around the

:01:22. > :01:25.world. Their case was partly based on a covert recording of Warren in a

:01:26. > :01:32.Dutch prison in 2004 talking about money laundering. He's heard saying,

:01:33. > :01:36.sometimes we'd do about ?10 million or ?15 million in a week.

:01:37. > :01:40.There were no armed guards needed here at Jersey's Royal Court this

:01:41. > :01:43.morning as Warren didn't appear in the Appeal Court in person. It took

:01:44. > :01:46.little time for Judge Michael Beloff QC to say there was nothing new in

:01:47. > :01:49.Warren's appeal application, adding that the evidence used in the

:01:50. > :01:53.Crown's case was entirely reasonable. According to his lawyer,

:01:54. > :01:56.Warren can now, in theory, appeal again to the Privy Council, or

:01:57. > :02:00.attempt to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights. If he doesn't

:02:01. > :02:05.give the money to the authorities in Jersey, he will serve another ten

:02:06. > :02:08.years in prison. Aurigny is launching it's first jet

:02:09. > :02:12.service between Guernsey and Gatwick this Sunday. The states`owned

:02:13. > :02:16.airline will lease an aircraft, like this one, from Flybe. Aurigny has

:02:17. > :02:19.ordered its own, which will come into service later in the year.

:02:20. > :02:24.Flybe will stop flying from the Channel Islands to London Gatwick on

:02:25. > :02:27.Saturday because of rising costs. States members in Guernsey have

:02:28. > :02:32.started debating whether or not to introduce island wide voting at the

:02:33. > :02:35.next election. The issue has been brought forward by seven deputies

:02:36. > :02:39.who want the matter considered so that changes can be made in time for

:02:40. > :02:43.2016. People living near a smelly sewage

:02:44. > :02:46.plant in Guernsey could soon be able to breathe fresh air. Despite an ?11

:02:47. > :02:50.million investment to improve the stench the Belle Greve Waste Water

:02:51. > :03:02.facility is still causing a stink for its neighbours.

:03:03. > :03:06.Spring is in the air and on a lovely day like today, people will have

:03:07. > :03:10.their windows open, but not the houses over there because they have

:03:11. > :03:18.this see which treatment plant next to them. It was meant to help with

:03:19. > :03:27.getting rid of the smells, but it has created another problem. We got

:03:28. > :03:36.rid of the main problem which was an open chamber. What we did not do was

:03:37. > :03:41.put any odour control on the old building, so now the new works are

:03:42. > :03:51.in place, it is the next area we need to concentrate on to solve the

:03:52. > :03:56.problem. How big a job is it? It is a reasonable sized job. It is the

:03:57. > :04:03.next phase of sorting out all the problems. When can people see a

:04:04. > :04:11.difference? At the moment we are looking for contractors to carry out

:04:12. > :04:14.the work. Following that, we will award the contract and we hope to

:04:15. > :04:27.have the work completed by the end of the year. How much will it cost?

:04:28. > :04:33.We are not sure, maybe ?50,000. Thank you for joining us. Hopefully

:04:34. > :04:37.by the end of the year all these neighbours here will notice a big

:04:38. > :04:41.difference. Meanwhile in Jersey the Council of

:04:42. > :04:44.Ministers wants ?75 million to be spent on new sewage treatment works.

:04:45. > :04:47.It's part of a 20`year plan to improve the island's waste water

:04:48. > :04:51.collection and treatment system. The plant at Bellozanne will be

:04:52. > :05:01.replaced. Built in the 1950s, it's not up to today's standards. The

:05:02. > :05:06.sewage plant we have at the moment was built in the 1950s, but now it

:05:07. > :05:15.is time to upgrade to make sure the water going out into the bay is of

:05:16. > :05:22.the best quality. The money will pay for upgrading sewage work, pipework

:05:23. > :05:25.and general connections. It's 50 years since Condor Ferries

:05:26. > :05:28.launched it's service between the Channel Islands and St Malo. And to

:05:29. > :05:31.celebrate the captain and staff threw open the ships doors today,

:05:32. > :05:35.sharing their memories and insights of life on board. It was in May 1964

:05:36. > :05:38.that the service set sail when hydrofoils took to the water

:05:39. > :05:42.carrying 140 passengers. The ferries have, of course, since changed, but

:05:43. > :05:45.one man on board today had worked on those earlier boats. He told our

:05:46. > :05:55.reporter Emma Chambers how that started a love affair with life on

:05:56. > :06:01.the waves. You had to fly them through the

:06:02. > :06:07.water when it was rough. It was satisfying doing that. Although I

:06:08. > :06:15.retired years ago, I worked in the summer. So you don't really want to

:06:16. > :06:19.lose the job? Of course not. It's the biggest speedboat in the world.

:06:20. > :06:23.That's all from the late team here at BBC Channel Island's news. Ed

:06:24. > :06:26.Sault will be back with your next full news bulletin tomorrow evening,

:06:27. > :06:33.here on BBC One. In the meantime, I'll leave you with David and the

:06:34. > :06:37.weather. Good evening. It has been a cold day across the islands.

:06:38. > :06:43.Temperatures between six and eight degrees. It will be warmer tomorrow,

:06:44. > :06:48.but not necessarily dry. Some of the showers will be heavy with the risk

:06:49. > :06:58.of thunder and hail. 20 showers around to night. Perhaps a bit drier

:06:59. > :07:04.in the small hours of the morning. Temperatures will start at six

:07:05. > :07:09.degrees. It will get warmer with temperatures up into double figures,

:07:10. > :07:15.but the brain is never going to be too far away. `` the rain. As we

:07:16. > :07:22.move into the weekend it will be warmer and drier. 17 degrees on

:07:23. > :07:27.Sunday, but there will be cloud and the threat of patchy rain. There is

:07:28. > :07:33.a summary for tomorrow. Goodbye. weather. Now the national forecast

:07:34. > :07:44.with Nick Miller. Hello, as winter becomes spring, the

:07:45. > :07:47.atmosphere contains more energy. The shower clouds grow taller. If

:07:48. > :07:52.conditions are right, you get thunder storms. There have been some

:07:53. > :07:58.today. Bob took this picture near London this afternoon. The spring

:07:59. > :08:03.flowers will appreciate the re turn return of warmth. Until then big

:08:04. > :08:06.showers to come, pushing in across south-west England - some hail and

:08:07. > :08:07.thunder. Sleet
