:00:00. > 3:59:59London. If you want more details, you can head to our website. Now on

:00:00. > :00:14.The headlines in the Channel Islands BBC One we join

:00:15. > :00:16.The headlines in the Channel Islands tonight.

:00:17. > :00:20.Primary school children in Guernsey are being affected by exposure to

:00:21. > :00:24.online hardcore pornography. We are talking about kids that are still at

:00:25. > :00:30.primary school coming into contact with this stuff and it is distorting

:00:31. > :00:31.debuts of what is expected of a sexual relationship.

:00:32. > :00:34.Also on the programme: Financial woes ` the concern

:00:35. > :00:37.Guernsey's reputation as a finance centre is being damaged

:00:38. > :00:40.internationally. And rugby on skates. The new craze

:00:41. > :01:01.that's crossed the Atlantic and arrived here in the Channel Islands.

:01:02. > :01:06.There are claims tonight that children as young as eight years old

:01:07. > :01:09.in Guernsey are being affected by exposure to online hardcore

:01:10. > :01:12.pornography. It mirrors a trend in the UK as concerns grow about the

:01:13. > :01:15.effect porn is having on young, impressionable minds. But as Mike

:01:16. > :01:17.Wilkins reports, there are plans to help support children who stumble

:01:18. > :01:22.across inappropriate content. Children are growing up in an

:01:23. > :01:25.overtly sexualised world. Easy access to internet pornography is

:01:26. > :01:28.one of the main drivers. In Guernsey, children as young as eight

:01:29. > :01:33.are stumbling across hardcore videos and images. For those striving to

:01:34. > :01:40.protect our young people, it's a big concern. I think that is the

:01:41. > :01:44.important thing, we are not talking about teenagers or older coming

:01:45. > :01:47.across this, we are talking about children, kids who are still at

:01:48. > :01:52.primary school, coming into contact with this stuff and it is distorting

:01:53. > :01:55.their views of what is expected them and what a sexual relationship is.

:01:56. > :01:59.When we are hearing stories of girls who are reporting to the sexual

:02:00. > :02:02.health clinic with injuries and pain due to the ways they have

:02:03. > :02:05.experimented sexually because of what has been seen either by

:02:06. > :02:14.themselves or their partner, but gives us an idea of the kind of

:02:15. > :02:17.problems we are dealing with. It's But for many parents, the idea of

:02:18. > :02:20.their child seeking out or stumbling across online porn is the stuff of

:02:21. > :02:23.nightmares. Many bedrooms are equipped with computers like this

:02:24. > :02:27.and with the growth of smartphones and tablets, it's becoming easier

:02:28. > :02:30.than ever to go online. But things are being done to counter this. The

:02:31. > :02:33.island's Esafety committee is hoping to secure funding to be able to put

:02:34. > :02:37.a trained and skilled worker into schools to be able to support

:02:38. > :02:40.children. Having that conversation with your child is a really

:02:41. > :02:48.important thing and something that the NSPCC had introduced, a campaign

:02:49. > :02:51.that enables parents to have simple, basic conversations with their child

:02:52. > :02:54.about keeping themselves safe and one of those things could be coming

:02:55. > :02:56.across this material online. That's incredibly important. Pornography

:02:57. > :03:01.remains a somewhat taboo subject, but some feel now is the time to

:03:02. > :03:07.talk about it and its impact on younger people.

:03:08. > :03:10.You can get information about how to protect and educate your children in

:03:11. > :03:20.using the internet at bbc.co.uk/webwise.

:03:21. > :03:23.In the last hour, 35`year`old man has been charged with the murder of

:03:24. > :03:30.Colin Chevalier. Darren Neil McCormack well appear before

:03:31. > :03:33.Josie's Royal Court tomorrow `` Josie's. The body of the 46`year`old

:03:34. > :03:36.was found in his flat in Duhamel Place in St Helier, on Saturday

:03:37. > :03:38.night. Two other people remain in custody.

:03:39. > :03:41.It's emerged a third man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of

:03:42. > :03:44.dealing drugs, in connection with the death of Jared Harrison in

:03:45. > :03:48.Jersey this weekend. It's thought he died after taking what he believed

:03:49. > :03:51.was a class A drug. He was found in a house in St Helier. Two teenagers

:03:52. > :03:54.were initially arrested on suspicion of importing controlled substances

:03:55. > :03:58.but were later released on bail. Now police say they also arrested a man

:03:59. > :04:06.in his thirties, suspecting that he was a drug supplier. He was released

:04:07. > :04:09.pending further inquiries. A controlled explosion took place in

:04:10. > :04:12.Alderney today, after a wartime French shell was exposed by recent

:04:13. > :04:16.storms. The 10cm ordnance was discovered by a visitor in the dunes

:04:17. > :04:20.at Longis Bay. It was detonated by a bomb disposal team from Guernsey.

:04:21. > :04:23.There's concern Guernsey's reputation as a finance centre's

:04:24. > :04:26.being damaged because of the time it's taking to finish an

:04:27. > :04:29.investigation into the Channel Islands stock exchange. The Guernsey

:04:30. > :04:33.Financial Services Commission report into historic practices at the CISX

:04:34. > :04:38.could be published within the next eight weeks. But there's concern the

:04:39. > :04:44.ongoing review has caught people's attention internationally, as Penny

:04:45. > :04:46.Elderfield reports. A finance industry with an

:04:47. > :04:50.international reputation that Guernsey States works hard to

:04:51. > :04:55.maintain. But there's concern that reputation could have taken a bit of

:04:56. > :04:57.a hit. Just back from a personal trip to a finance conference in the

:04:58. > :05:00.Caribbean, this Alderney politician says recent news about the

:05:01. > :05:10.investigation into the Channel Islands Stock Exchange became a

:05:11. > :05:15.talking point. In particular, the fact that it has taken two years to

:05:16. > :05:19.produce a report on what is a small offshore stock exchange, the report

:05:20. > :05:24.is not yet published. They didn't think it either helped the

:05:25. > :05:26.reputation of the jurisdiction or indeed the reputation of the

:05:27. > :05:28.regulator. The Financial Services Commission Investigation into

:05:29. > :05:30.historic practices at the Stock Exchange is continuing. And because

:05:31. > :05:45.of that, the Commission says... But the States have been given

:05:46. > :05:50.reassurances it should be completed within the next six to eight weeks.

:05:51. > :05:58.And as for Guernsey's reputation in the meantime, the Commerce and

:05:59. > :06:01.Employment Minister isn't concerned. I'm talking constantly to

:06:02. > :06:05.politicians from other jurisdictions, the chief minister is

:06:06. > :06:10.in the City of London on Thursday and Friday at some very important

:06:11. > :06:13.meetings and we are a very big and important partner to the City of

:06:14. > :06:16.London. With the independent review continuing, Guernsey States are keen

:06:17. > :06:28.to get on with their job of promoting the Islands' finance

:06:29. > :06:31.industry. But this is perhaps a reminder that nowadays local news

:06:32. > :06:35.can very quickly become global news, whether the States like it or not.

:06:36. > :06:38.Parishoners in St Ouen in Jersey can now go ahead with their appeal

:06:39. > :06:40.against the redevelopment of the Plemont headland on the island's

:06:41. > :06:44.north`west coast. Jersey's Planning Minister and the developers of the

:06:45. > :06:47.former holiday camp site tried to block an appeal from parishioners,

:06:48. > :06:50.but today that was overruled by the Royal Court. Emma Chambers reports.

:06:51. > :06:52.It's been one of the most controversial planning decisions in

:06:53. > :06:56.recent years. 28 new homes were given the green light by Jersey's

:06:57. > :06:59.Planning Minister, to be built here at the old Pontins holiday camp

:07:00. > :07:02.along the island's north coast last August. But that didn't stop

:07:03. > :07:06.campaigners. Parishioners of St Ouen, where the development site is,

:07:07. > :07:10.want the area to be returned back to nature. They appealed against the

:07:11. > :07:13.Planning Minister's decision. The Planning Minister and developers

:07:14. > :07:15.retaliated by appealing against the parishioners appeal, claiming it

:07:16. > :07:20.wasn't lodged within the 14`day limit. Today, Jersey's Royal Court

:07:21. > :07:23.overruled the developer's appeal, saying the application from St Ouen

:07:24. > :07:32.parishioners was valid and effective. They can now go`ahead

:07:33. > :07:35.with their appeal. The next thing now is for our legal teams to get

:07:36. > :07:40.together, look at their diaries and come up with a timing to get on

:07:41. > :07:43.there with the main appeal. The architect representing the

:07:44. > :07:46.developers told me he didn't want to comment on today's judgment.

:07:47. > :07:49.However, he did tell me his client had wanted to start clearing the

:07:50. > :07:53.site last year but has been prevented in doing so with this

:07:54. > :08:00.appeal process. The long dispute over the future of this former

:08:01. > :08:03.holiday site continues. Islanders hoping to travel to

:08:04. > :08:06.Madeira are being reassured that weekly direct flights from Jersey

:08:07. > :08:11.will continue. It's after the service provided by SATA airlines

:08:12. > :08:14.ended last month. Travel agents have been left to find an alternative

:08:15. > :08:18.plan, with Monarch Airlines providing a interim service. Now

:08:19. > :08:21.agents like Estrela Travel say they have found other companies to take

:08:22. > :08:30.on the flights. Any extra costs will not be passed on to customers. It is

:08:31. > :08:37.very difficult to find a replacement, but we, for the last

:08:38. > :08:44.three weeks, have been all over Europe trying to hire charters to do

:08:45. > :08:51.that one way trip to Madeira, and the situation is towards well beyond

:08:52. > :08:58.the community and I think we should have to do everything we can.

:08:59. > :09:02.Rugby on skates is how it's been described. The latest sport to cross

:09:03. > :09:06.the Atlantic has reached the Channel Islands. Jersey's rollerderby team

:09:07. > :09:09.are looking for new members as they work towards setting up the island's

:09:10. > :09:11.first rollerderby league. Intrigued? So was Jen Smith, who went along to

:09:12. > :09:25.find out more. Welcome to the world of rollerderby.

:09:26. > :09:37.It's fast. It's rough. And it's a lot of fun. But what is it? It is a

:09:38. > :09:47.very physical contact sport, where we have four blockers and one JAMA

:09:48. > :09:50.in a team, the person jamming has to break through the pack and every

:09:51. > :09:53.time they lap, they score points. Jersey's first rollerderby team have

:09:54. > :09:57.been in training for nearly a year. The aim is to set up a league to

:09:58. > :10:05.compete here and in the UK. There's also a similar group in Guernsey. It

:10:06. > :10:10.is dedicated to females, a contact sport, and it is brilliant. Why not?

:10:11. > :10:15.I get to come here and take all my aggression out on these lovely

:10:16. > :10:19.ladies. It doesn't feel like you're doing anything, it is great. And

:10:20. > :10:23.having the right kit is essential. The team and its fans are on the

:10:24. > :10:26.look`out for new members and officials so they can put on regular

:10:27. > :10:32.competitions. There are basic skills to master, including skating 27 laps

:10:33. > :10:41.in five minutes. But before that, all you need is enthusiasm. And a

:10:42. > :10:46.lot of padding. I am exhausted just looking at it.

:10:47. > :10:49.David is with us, is that something we could see you doing in the

:10:50. > :10:54.weather studio? I can't skate, I would be no good at

:10:55. > :10:57.all. Let's have a look at the weather. One thing is sure, we

:10:58. > :11:02.looking forward to some fine weather over the next few days. The high

:11:03. > :11:05.pressure is still coming towards us, it will probably peak in terms of

:11:06. > :11:10.its strength tomorrow before weakening, but tomorrow should be a

:11:11. > :11:13.fine start. The cloud will bubble up and will look threatening, maybe

:11:14. > :11:18.even the odd light shower, but not many of those. On the whole, fine

:11:19. > :11:22.and dry with some sunshine to enjoy. Looking at the satellite

:11:23. > :11:26.picture, there are bands close close by, one moving up to the western

:11:27. > :11:32.coast of Ireland, plenty over mid`Europe, but this area here is

:11:33. > :11:36.the area of high pressure moving closer towards us over the next 24

:11:37. > :11:40.hours. Across the English Channel for the middle of the day tomorrow

:11:41. > :11:43.and then it slips back down towards the middle of the Atlantic as this

:11:44. > :11:47.cold front comes in from the north`west. That could produce more

:11:48. > :11:50.in the way of cloud overnight Thursday night and we could even see

:11:51. > :11:55.a shower out that, but not much, it is effectively a dry story. Let's

:11:56. > :12:01.have a look in detail, because the cloud that has with us today will

:12:02. > :12:06.tend to melt away and as that happens when temperatures getting

:12:07. > :12:09.quite low, around three or four degrees tonight. Inland Jersey

:12:10. > :12:13.probably seeing the lowest temperature around the coastline,

:12:14. > :12:17.six or seven degrees. Lighter winds for tomorrow, patchy cloud but these

:12:18. > :12:21.spells of sunshine by the end of the afternoon. The cloud look

:12:22. > :12:27.threatening but it is still a dry day. 13`14 is the top temperature.

:12:28. > :12:34.The coastal waters, the winds are lighter today, mainly from them will

:12:35. > :12:37.west or north west. The times of high water...

:12:38. > :12:44.And for those going surfing, up to two or three feet, slightly choppy.

:12:45. > :12:48.It is dry all the way through, including the start of the weekend.

:12:49. > :12:51.What is tricky is to get the exact amount of cloud right but it is

:12:52. > :12:54.right. Not looking too bad the rest of the

:12:55. > :12:59.week. That is in the know, the headlines coming your way at 8pm. I

:13:00. > :13:02.am back with the latest in the Ten O'Clock News on BBC One. Here is

:13:03. > :13:08.Rebecca and Justin. their normal clarity. It is another

:13:09. > :13:11.legacy of the winter's stormy weather.

:13:12. > :13:16.A Devon woman says she's furious after waiting nearly a year for a BT

:13:17. > :13:19.phone line. In June last year, Christine Axford from Clawton near

:13:20. > :13:24.Holsworthy put the order in but she's still waiting. Calls to BT to

:13:25. > :13:27.try to resolve the issue are racking up big bills on her mobile phone. BT

:13:28. > :13:30.has apologised for the delay, saying it's a complex job. Spotlight's

:13:31. > :13:41.North Devon reporter, Andrea Ormsby, has been to investigate. Christine

:13:42. > :13:45.and her husband moved into their new house at the beginning of December

:13:46. > :13:49.but it was months before that in June that they ordered their phone

:13:50. > :13:54.line. Ten months on, nothing but a very big pile of letters. This

:13:55. > :14:05.letter states the plan is to get you up and running by midnight on the

:14:06. > :14:10.18th of September 2013. We are still waiting. She has to rely on her

:14:11. > :14:15.mobile phone and it only works in one part of the house. This is my

:14:16. > :14:20.only point of contact at the moment. I have to come to this window

:14:21. > :14:25.because it is the only place I get a good reception. My last call was on

:14:26. > :14:28.Friday to BT and I was on the phone for an hour to get an update of the

:14:29. > :14:35.order. I can't cope with these calls. It is ?6 was my last bill and

:14:36. > :14:44.I dread to think what it would be this month. Normally it is around

:14:45. > :14:50.?10. After months of confusion, BT says there is a blocked duct which

:14:51. > :14:54.needs to be fixed. I have told them it is a fiasco. If I was running a

:14:55. > :15:11.business like that, we would have gone under by now.

:15:12. > :15:22.For Christine and her husband, it is not quick enough. Their landline

:15:23. > :15:26.still has no dialling tone. In a moment we will find out why

:15:27. > :15:32.Torquay has been voted one of the best places to visit in the UK. We

:15:33. > :15:34.have had exclusive access to swimming coach Jon Rudd as he

:15:35. > :15:40.prepares to train England's Commonwealth Games squad. And it's

:15:41. > :15:41.time to play the music; it's time to light the lights as Taunton's

:15:42. > :15:51.Brewhouse Theatre re`opens tonight. Which is your favourite South West

:15:52. > :15:55.resort? Perhaps it's Newquay or maybe St Ives. It could be Weymouth

:15:56. > :15:58.in Dorset or Croyde in North Devon. Well according to the users of a

:15:59. > :16:02.well known travel website the highest rated resort in the UK is

:16:03. > :16:05.Torquay. It's been described as the third

:16:06. > :16:09.best destination in the country after London and Edinburgh. As Emma

:16:10. > :16:12.Ruminski reports it's an accolade which has been warmly welcomed by

:16:13. > :16:23.those trying to promote Torbay as a holiday resort.

:16:24. > :16:31.London was number one on the list but it seemed bigger when I was

:16:32. > :16:36.there last. This miniature village is small in stature but it has a big

:16:37. > :16:40.reputation in the rankings. The trip advisor collated the reviews left by

:16:41. > :16:46.visitors to hotels and attractions across the UK for the last year.

:16:47. > :16:50.Torquay came third after London and Edinburgh in the best destination

:16:51. > :16:55.category. We undertook research which showed how people look at a

:16:56. > :17:02.possible hotel and then go and look at reviews and then go on to balk.

:17:03. > :17:07.Cost `` customer comment is more important than what a business has

:17:08. > :17:16.about a business. It has to compete with places like London. Why has it

:17:17. > :17:20.done so well in a list dominated by big cities? It is one of those

:17:21. > :17:27.destinations on the rise. Last year it was eighth in the UK. One of the

:17:28. > :17:30.reasons is partly that it is a gateway to the south`west and we

:17:31. > :17:34.know how popular that is with tourists both domestically and

:17:35. > :17:38.internationally. Torquay has a lot to offer and it is one of only two

:17:39. > :17:47.seaside destinations to make the UK ten. Overall bookings are estimated

:17:48. > :17:50.to be slightly down this Easter after recent storms and real

:17:51. > :17:55.problems. They hope this good publicity will turn into more

:17:56. > :18:03.visitors. It will be beneficial for the desert `` resort. We are

:18:04. > :18:08.delighted that we will be featured so prominently. There are some

:18:09. > :18:13.tables that Torquay is never really destined to top but I You

:18:14. > :18:15.tables that Torquay is never really destined to top but I hear the

:18:16. > :18:18.stadium is overrated anyway. Well you've been emailing your

:18:19. > :18:57.comments and posting on social media.

:18:58. > :19:01.The Commonwealth Games swimming trials have started today, with

:19:02. > :19:05.Plymouth Leander head coach Jon Rudd leading England's bid for medals in

:19:06. > :19:08.Glasgow this July. He's famed for producing top class swimmers,

:19:09. > :19:17.including Olympic and World champion Ruta Meilutyte. are a leave a

:19:18. > :19:19.including Olympic and World champion Ruta Meilutyte. Jon has given

:19:20. > :19:22.Spotlight exclusive access to his work, but as Dave Gibbins

:19:23. > :19:30.discovered, it was an extremely early start to the day. Good

:19:31. > :19:35.morning. knee early start to the day. Good

:19:36. > :19:35.morning. This is a mid to the figures were

:19:36. > :19:36.early start to the day. Good morning. This is a mid morning at

:19:37. > :19:40.5:15am. Why do you there morning. This is a mid morning at

:19:41. > :19:43.5:15am. Why do you start so early? It is the only time we can get a

:19:44. > :19:56.decent training session in before they have to be at university and

:19:57. > :20:04.school. Jon Rudd's swimmers want to be the best. They visit here five

:20:05. > :20:09.days a week. There is another two hours in Nepal following their

:20:10. > :20:13.day's studies. Each one of them is different. They are of different

:20:14. > :20:18.ages and come from different countries. Some have exams, some

:20:19. > :20:23.have university and they do things at different times. It can affect

:20:24. > :20:27.the way they train and compete. It is quite important for me to know

:20:28. > :20:27.them as individuals so I can respond are

:20:28. > :20:27.them as individuals so I can respond to

:20:28. > :20:28.them as individuals so I can respond are a

:20:29. > :20:35.them as individuals so I can respond to those changes in their lives and

:20:36. > :20:38.help them through. Queen of the pool is Ruta Meilutyte, a 16`year`old

:20:39. > :20:40.Lithuanian who lives in Plymouth, fair

:20:41. > :20:47.Lithuanian who lives in Plymouth, swims in Plymouth and swims for

:20:48. > :20:55.Plymouth Leander. They use interesting techniques. This is

:20:56. > :21:01.assisted speed. These guys are drop`dead sprinters. They do the
