:00:17. > :00:19.It mirrors a trend in the UK, But as Mike Wilkins reports,

:00:20. > :00:23.there are plans to help support children who stumble across

:00:24. > :00:31.Children are growing up in an overtly sexualised world.

:00:32. > :00:35.Easy access to internet pornography is one of the main drivers.

:00:36. > :00:38.In Guernsey, children as young as eight are stumbling

:00:39. > :00:46.For those striving to protect our young people, it's a big concern.

:00:47. > :00:49.I think that is the important thing, we are not talking about teenagers

:00:50. > :00:53.or older coming across this, we are talking about children, kids who are

:00:54. > :00:56.still at primary school, coming into contact with this stuff and it is

:00:57. > :00:59.distorting their views of what is expected of them

:01:00. > :01:03.When we are hearing stories of girls who are reporting

:01:04. > :01:06.to the sexual health clinic with injuries and pain due to the ways

:01:07. > :01:09.they have experimented sexually because of what has been seen

:01:10. > :01:12.either by themselves or their partner, that gives us an idea

:01:13. > :01:17.of the kind of problems we are dealing with.

:01:18. > :01:20.But for many parents, the idea of their child seeking out

:01:21. > :01:23.or stumbling across online porn is the stuff of nightmares.

:01:24. > :01:28.Many bedrooms are equipped with computers like this

:01:29. > :01:31.and with the growth of smartphones and tablets, it's becoming easier

:01:32. > :01:34.But things are being done to counter this.

:01:35. > :01:38.The island's Esafety committee is hoping to secure funding to be able

:01:39. > :01:41.to put a trained and skilled worker into schools to

:01:42. > :01:47.Having that conversation with your child is a really important thing

:01:48. > :01:51.and something that the NSPCC had introduced, a campaign that enables

:01:52. > :01:55.parents to have simple, basic conversations with their child about

:01:56. > :01:57.keeping themselves safe and one of those things could be

:01:58. > :02:07.Pornography remains a somewhat taboo subject, but some feel now is

:02:08. > :02:15.the time to talk about it and its impact on younger people.

:02:31. > :02:35.Colin Chevalier was found dead at his home in St Helier
