:00:00. > :00:13.Good evening. The chances of being BBC News Channel.

:00:14. > :00:16.Good evening. The chances of being killed or seriously injured on

:00:17. > :00:19.Jersey's roads are nearly 40% higher than the UK. Despite repeatdd

:00:20. > :00:25.Government safety campaigns the average number of incidents hasn't

:00:26. > :00:27.reduced in a decade. The figures come from a UK consultant who is

:00:28. > :00:34.helping Jersey's Transport Department develop a new ro`d safety

:00:35. > :00:37.strategy. Three people died on Jersey's roads last year, including

:00:38. > :00:42.at Victoria Avenue where a xoung driver was killed. And here at Mont

:00:43. > :00:47.Bingham where a tourist died in a cycling accident. This report shows

:00:48. > :00:49.in Jersey between 2003 and 2011 there were on average 45 de`ths or

:00:50. > :01:26.serious injuries on be safe when cycling on Jersey's

:01:27. > :01:31.roads. Casualty rates amongst cyclists are 42% higher in Jersey

:01:32. > :01:35.than on the mainland. The l`st three years there has been a small

:01:36. > :01:41.increase and our figures ard relatively small, but there is a

:01:42. > :01:45.general increase. Because cxclists, and motorcyclists are much lore

:01:46. > :02:00.about the rubble on the roads, clearly an emphasis is placdd

:02:01. > :02:03.Trinity Stephen Lawson is worried about a new housing developlent next

:02:04. > :02:07.to a major road. He successfully campaigned to reduce the spded limit

:02:08. > :02:16.worry. There is no crossing, they worry. There is no crossing, they

:02:17. > :02:21.cannot see the direction and it is very dangerous and we are vdry

:02:22. > :02:25.worried that with an increase in children at the new estate, it is an

:02:26. > :02:28.accident waiting to happen. The report called Jersey's high casualty

:02:29. > :02:34.numbers a major cause for concern. That will come as no surprise to

:02:35. > :02:38.some. Within a decade it could cost

:02:39. > :02:42.Guernsey States ?95 million a year more to maintain existing sdrvices.

:02:43. > :02:47.And the Government is considering all options to fill that shortfall.

:02:48. > :02:51.Penny Elderfield reports. Ghve it another ten years and things will

:02:52. > :02:54.have changed a fair bit herd. The ageing population means the number

:02:55. > :02:58.of people working and paying tax is expected to fall. The cost of

:02:59. > :03:02.providing services like health and pensions will only go the other way.

:03:03. > :03:07.And now the States has workdd out how much it could cost them. As the

:03:08. > :03:11.working population declines it is estimated by 2025 tax paid to the

:03:12. > :03:17.States could drop by up to ?21 million. At the same time the amount

:03:18. > :03:23.Guernsey needs to spend could increase by ?95 million. And for the

:03:24. > :03:32.States it is clear doing nothing about it is not an option. Hf these

:03:33. > :03:39.challenges are right, we ard better to take action now and make

:03:40. > :03:42.decisions now so that we have the process in place in The Govdrnment

:03:43. > :03:45.is still assessing what to do and has already spoken about options

:03:46. > :03:49.like putting up a property tax or introducing a sales tax. Ten years'

:03:50. > :03:55.time. When it comes to penshons the retirement age is also under

:03:56. > :04:02.consideration. It has already been decided the state pension age goes

:04:03. > :04:07.from 65 up to 67 ending up hn 2 31 and our modelling is looking at the

:04:08. > :04:12.possibility or probability that that will move further from 67 up to 70.

:04:13. > :04:16.The States should have firm plans by the end of the year and by taking

:04:17. > :04:22.action now they will avoid bigger problems further down the lhne.

:04:23. > :04:25.New technology will soon be rolled out to address problems with current

:04:26. > :04:28.IT systems used by Guernsey's schools. Pupils and staff h`ve

:04:29. > :04:31.complained about internet provision and the service which let's them

:04:32. > :04:34.access resources from home. Education says a replacement system

:04:35. > :04:45.due to be installed in July should make a big difference. It whll be

:04:46. > :04:50.train our teachers so they can take train our teachers so they can take

:04:51. > :04:52.full benefit from it. They have not been very thrilled with what they

:04:53. > :04:57.have already had, but it will make a have already had, but it will make a

:04:58. > :05:00.huge difference going forward. In sport Guernsey Football Club played

:05:01. > :05:02.their last league match of the season against Folkestone Invicta

:05:03. > :05:06.tonight at Footes Lane. Thex drew 2`2. Guernsey's goals came from Ross

:05:07. > :05:10.Allen and Dave Rihoy. Both teams finish in the top five of the Ryman

:05:11. > :05:15.South League and could face each other again in the play`offs for

:05:16. > :05:19.promotion next week. Meanwhhle, Jersey Rugby Club have a fight on

:05:20. > :05:23.their hands to stay in the second tier of English rugby. They play

:05:24. > :05:27.their last Championship gamd of the season tomorrow away at Bedford

:05:28. > :05:30.Blues. After losing last wedk, Jersey are now sitting bottom of the

:05:31. > :05:35.table, two points behind Ealing Trailfinders. If Ealing win their

:05:36. > :05:40.match tomorrow, Jersey will be relegated back to National One.

:05:41. > :05:43.There will be live coverage of Jersey versus Bedford on BBC Radio

:05:44. > :05:51.Jersey tomorrow from two, including live updates from Ealing ag`inst

:05:52. > :05:53.Rotherham. We will have a ftll report of the match on BBC Channel

:05:54. > :06:12.Islands News on Monday at 6:30pm. are back on Monday. Over thd weekend

:06:13. > :06:13.BBC Radio Jersey and BBC radio Guernsey will have the latest news,

:06:14. > :06:36.sport and weather. We are going to return to what we

:06:37. > :06:41.expect to see in April. It light be dry to start with, but very quickly

:06:42. > :06:46.the rain is going to set in from midnight until about three or four

:06:47. > :06:51.in the morning. But it will be gone by the time we are up first thing

:06:52. > :06:55.tomorrow morning. Very quickly through the morning we will see

:06:56. > :07:01.showers develop with some stnny spells. Perhaps the showers are more

:07:02. > :07:06.persistent in the afternoon and early evening. 12 or 13 is the top

:07:07. > :07:12.temperature tomorrow. The whnds from the South will be strong at times.

:07:13. > :07:18.We have got some showers to come again on Sunday. There is the risk

:07:19. > :07:23.of a heavy shower. The winds change in direction and become

:07:24. > :07:27.north`westerly. Overnight Stnday into Monday we will find we get some

:07:28. > :07:32.respite from the unsettled weather. It should be dry mainly for Tuesday.

:07:33. > :07:42.with an outlook. We will have the outlook for the rest of the country.

:07:43. > :07:46.Goodbye. Good evening. A bit of a
