:00:25. > :00:27.bovine TB, brucellosis and Dnzootic bovine leukosis for decades, but the
:00:28. > :00:34.testing regime in the island doesn't meet European regulations. Despite
:00:35. > :00:37.this, exports to the UK had continued, but last autumn, the EU
:00:38. > :00:40.ruled this was no longer acceptable, effectively banning the export of
:00:41. > :00:45.Jersey's cattle. Sophie Sulheria reports.
:00:46. > :00:49.It's an island icon recognised across the world. The reput`tion of
:00:50. > :00:53.high health in Jersey's herd is key to its success so it's little
:00:54. > :00:57.surprise that the temporary ban on the exportation of cattle could hit
:00:58. > :01:00.the island's trade hard. In fact the Economic Development departlent
:01:01. > :01:03.estimates that in five years, the live cattle industry could lose more

:01:27. > :01:30.soon cannot do so because conditions have to be Compline with. Btt as
:01:31. > :01:36.soon as testing gets started, people will be eligible to export `fter six

:01:40. > :01:45.say they've acted as quicklx as possible. We have only had that
:01:46. > :01:49.programme in the last few months. I have had to go to the Counchl of
:01:50. > :01:57.ministers to ask for contingency funding or the next two years. That
:01:58. > :02:00.extra money will fund the initial testing programme which costs more
:02:01. > :02:04.than ?300,000. In total, it will cost more than ?500,000 over five
:02:05. > :02:07.years to carry out the testhng. But the economic development department
:02:08. > :02:11.says if it doesn't go ahead, the industry could see potential losses
:02:12. > :02:13.of almost ?6 million. The contingency funding has been
:02:14. > :02:23.approved to the delight of agricultural leaders.
:02:24. > :02:25.It is very encouraging that local politicians recognise the ilportance
:02:26. > :02:31.of making sure that our indtstry is on an even keel and an equal footing
:02:32. > :02:41.with our competitors. Very encouraging that they recognise
:02:42. > :02:44.that. It will be at least shx months before the testing procedurd can be

:04:10. > :04:14.a big part of that. It is ddfinitely a big problem. We are aware of the
:04:15. > :04:20.problems that have been caused and we have seen an increase in the
