:00:11. > :00:13.Good evening. A couple are lucky to be alive today after their new boat

:00:14. > :00:16.broke down off the Devon coast without any safety equipment on

:00:17. > :00:19.board. Coastguards in Brixham helped rescue the man and woman after the

:00:20. > :00:22.vessel became stranded off Plymouth, near Mount Wise. The boat didn't

:00:23. > :00:25.even have a VHF radio on board. Now Coastguards are warning new boat

:00:26. > :00:38.owners to think twice before going to sea without the right safety

:00:39. > :00:41.knowledge. It means that, if you do not have the right equipment in

:00:42. > :00:45.terms of communication, we don't know where you are and have to send

:00:46. > :00:48.somebody out to go and find you, tow you back in again, and it ties up

:00:49. > :00:53.people who should be looking after people who are possibly in serious

:00:54. > :00:56.trouble and need our assistance. Business leaders estimate up to ten

:00:57. > :00:58.thousand jobs could be created across Devon after the government

:00:59. > :01:00.announced that parts of the county including Torbay, have been

:01:01. > :01:02.recommended for Assisted Area Status. It means firms in

:01:03. > :01:05.economically disadvantaged areas could benefit from more EU funding

:01:06. > :01:16.and government help to recruit more staff. It is going to help

:01:17. > :01:19.employment, and that has got to be beneficial. It is going to help

:01:20. > :01:22.businesses. Businesses will need to apply for the various pots of money

:01:23. > :01:26.that are available but it is trying to bring the economy up to speed in

:01:27. > :01:36.those areas that have traditionally lagged behind the rest of Devon. An

:01:37. > :01:39.extremely rare collection of Military vehicles will soon go under

:01:40. > :01:41.the hammer in Cornwall. Retired farmer Bob White from Millbrook has

:01:42. > :01:44.been collecting and lovingly restoring old World War Two

:01:45. > :01:46.transport vehicles for more than 25 years. There's already been

:01:47. > :02:00.international interest in the retirement sale. I shall be very sad

:02:01. > :02:05.to see them go. I have had many years of enjoyment out of them and I

:02:06. > :02:09.think it is time now to let them go to other people who I am sure will

:02:10. > :02:18.look after them just as much as I have. Hundreds of people have

:02:19. > :02:20.descended on the Rame Peninsula in South East Cornwall for a

:02:21. > :02:23.traditional May Day celebration. The Black Prince flowerboat procession

:02:24. > :02:26.makes it way through the streets of Millbrook, Kingsand and Cornwall.

:02:27. > :02:35.Alison Johns reports. The villages are decked out in red and white for

:02:36. > :02:38.the procession. The flower boat is carried through the streets before

:02:39. > :02:44.being launched into the sea later in the day. The children come and dance

:02:45. > :02:47.every year and learn the maypole. It is a wonderful community spirit,

:02:48. > :02:52.lovely for the children to have their own festival. It is important

:02:53. > :02:55.to keep the tradition going. Troops of Morris dancers from across the

:02:56. > :02:59.South West follow the boat with stops at local hostelries across the

:03:00. > :03:04.way. They are joined by children from local schools. Today is a

:03:05. > :03:09.special day for Millbrook's town crier, who is recovering from cancer

:03:10. > :03:14.in his tongue and neck. Are you in full voice? Not quite full voice but

:03:15. > :03:19.a lot of people are pleased about that, I shall be a lot quieter! The

:03:20. > :03:24.children's prizes have been judged... This tradition started

:03:25. > :03:28.before the war but died out when so many local men failed to come home.

:03:29. > :03:31.It was revived years ago and is now a major part of the local calendar

:03:32. > :03:44.as people banish winter and welcome in the spring. A spring festival has

:03:45. > :03:47.also been held on the Somerset Levels today. After the devastating

:03:48. > :03:49.floods, today's festivities at Kingsbury brought a much needed

:03:50. > :04:01.break from the recovery work, as well as raising money for local

:04:02. > :04:04.charities. Sisters with a combined age of 200 have been celebrating

:04:05. > :04:07.their birthday with family and friends in North Devon today. Freda

:04:08. > :04:10.and Doll are identical twins who were born on the 5th of May 1914.

:04:11. > :04:17.Spotlight's Leigh Rundle was invited to the party. They were born five

:04:18. > :04:24.minutes apart, but today arrived together in style. They treated me

:04:25. > :04:29.like royalty. When the car pulled up, I said I am not royalty, you

:04:30. > :04:33.know! You did not know that the Rolls`Royce was picking you up? I

:04:34. > :04:40.did not know. They kept it all a secret. This is marvellous. Are you

:04:41. > :04:45.enjoying yourself? Yes, very nice. I did not expect all this. Among the

:04:46. > :04:49.guests, they're two younger sisters who are both in their 90s. A full

:04:50. > :04:53.five generations of the family were here. It is absolutely amazing,

:04:54. > :05:02.identical twin sisters, to be 100 years old. Two of their sisters are

:05:03. > :05:08.here. What do they put their longevity down to? Well, their dad's

:05:09. > :05:13.home`grown veg. We were brought up in the country, we had all fresh

:05:14. > :05:18.veg, because money was scarce. We always used to get plenty of

:05:19. > :05:32.vegetables. That is what it takes. I think we started in life well. And

:05:33. > :05:34.it shows no sign of letting up. Time now for the weather and David has

:05:35. > :05:45.the latest. Hello, good evening. After a

:05:46. > :05:48.reasonable weekend, it is going downhill this week, a change to much

:05:49. > :05:52.more unsettled conditions and there will be quite a breeze blowing as

:05:53. > :05:55.well and that will see plenty of showers, as well as some persistent

:05:56. > :05:59.rain. Some of that rain coming our way tonight, it is moving fairly

:06:00. > :06:01.steadily, but as you can see, it is low pressure taking charge of wet

:06:02. > :06:05.weather patterns, right through this corner of Europe and it means we

:06:06. > :06:08.will stay breezy and unsettled. The rain overnight could be heavy, but

:06:09. > :06:10.it will move swiftly, last to clear from the Channel Islands, so

:06:11. > :06:13.temperatures overnight should not fall below ten degrees. Tomorrow

:06:14. > :06:16.will be bright, showers developing through the morning and into the

:06:17. > :06:19.afternoon, falling in lines as we move to the second part of the day,

:06:20. > :06:22.where we get some sunshine, possibly up to 16 degrees, the top

:06:23. > :06:27.temperature, but a brisk south`westerly breeze will make it

:06:28. > :06:32.feel cooler along the coastline. When the showers show, it will feel

:06:33. > :06:35.cooler. The week is unsettled, we will see more cloud around on

:06:36. > :06:38.Wednesday and the risk of showers developing on Wednesday afternoon,

:06:39. > :06:42.one or two of those could be heavy, but a lot of dry weather for the

:06:43. > :06:45.middle of the week, more persistent rain on Thursday and that will turn

:06:46. > :06:51.showery as we move into Friday. Have a nice evening. Goodbye for now.

:06:52. > :06:54.Don't forget Late Kick`Off tonight at 11:35pm, but i'll be back with

:06:55. > :06:56.the late news just before 10:15pm. In the meantime, do enjoy the rest

:06:57. > :07:12.of your Bank Holiday. The sunshine today for the bank

:07:13. > :07:16.holiday produced the highest temperature of the long weekend in

:07:17. > :07:21.eastern England today, at 20 Celsius. But to the west, the cloud

:07:22. > :07:25.has been gathering. We have seen a bit of rain in Northern Ireland and

:07:26. > :07:27.western Scotland, but the thicker cloud now pushing into the

:07:28. > :07:34.south-west of England is delivering more rain. It will become more

:07:35. > :07:37.extensive over the next few hours. A ragged area of rainfall will move

:07:38. > :07:38.east as the night goes on. If
