:00:00. > :00:09.Good evening. Coastguards are That's all from me and the team.

:00:10. > :00:12.Good evening. Coastguards are warning boat owners to make sure

:00:13. > :00:15.they have proper safety training after a couple had a lucky escape

:00:16. > :00:19.when their new boat broke down off the Devon coast without any safety

:00:20. > :00:22.equipment on board. Brixham coastguards helped rescue the man

:00:23. > :00:26.and woman after the vessel became stranded off Plymouth, near Mount

:00:27. > :00:32.Wise. The boat didn't even have a VHF radio. It means that, if he

:00:33. > :00:35.doesn't have the right equipment in terms of communication, we don't

:00:36. > :00:41.know where he is and have to send somebody out to go and find him, tow

:00:42. > :00:44.him back in again. It ties up people who should be looking after people

:00:45. > :00:48.who are possibly in serious trouble and need our assistance.

:00:49. > :00:51.Business leaders estimate up to 10,000 jobs could be created across

:00:52. > :00:53.Devon after the government announced that parts of the county, including

:00:54. > :00:59.Torbay, have been recommended for Assisted Area Status. It means firms

:01:00. > :01:02.in economically disadvantaged areas could benefit from more EU funding

:01:03. > :01:08.and government help to recruit more staff.

:01:09. > :01:11.Hundreds of people descended on the Rame Peninsula in South East

:01:12. > :01:16.Cornwall today for a traditional May Day celebration. The Black Prince

:01:17. > :01:19.flower boat procession made its way through the streets of Millbrook,

:01:20. > :01:24.Kingsand and Cawsand. Alison Johns reports.

:01:25. > :01:28.The villages at the Rame Peninsula are decked out in red and white for

:01:29. > :01:31.the procession. Ratings from HMS Raleigh and Torpoint carry the Black

:01:32. > :01:35.Prince flower boat through the streets before it is launched into

:01:36. > :01:38.the sea at Cawsand later in the day. All the children, they start off,

:01:39. > :01:42.the infant school then the juniors then the seniors, and they come and

:01:43. > :01:45.dance every year and learn the maypole. It's just a wonderful

:01:46. > :01:49.community spirit. It's lovely for the children to have their own

:01:50. > :01:53.festival. It's important to keep the tradition going. Troops of Morris

:01:54. > :01:56.dancers from across the South West follow the boat, with stops at local

:01:57. > :01:59.hostelries across the way. They are joined by children from local

:02:00. > :02:03.schools and by a host of town criers. Today is a special day for

:02:04. > :02:09.Millbrook's town crier, who is recovering from cancer in his tongue

:02:10. > :02:13.and neck. You're in full voice, are you, looking forward to it? Not

:02:14. > :02:17.quite full voice but a lot of people are pleased about that. I shall be a

:02:18. > :02:21.bit quieter! The children's prizes have been judged... This tradition

:02:22. > :02:26.existed before the war, but died out when so many local men failed to

:02:27. > :02:30.come home. It was revived 27 years ago and is now a major part of the

:02:31. > :02:43.local calendar, as people banish winter and welcome in the spring.

:02:44. > :02:46.A spring festival has also been held on the Somerset Levels today. After

:02:47. > :02:48.the devastating floods, today's festivities at Kingsbury brought a

:02:49. > :02:54.much`needed break from the recovery work, as well as raising money for

:02:55. > :02:57.local charities. An extremely rare collection of

:02:58. > :03:01.military vehicles will soon go under the hammer in Cornwall. Retired

:03:02. > :03:04.farmer Bob White from Millbrook has been collecting and lovingly

:03:05. > :03:09.restoring old World War Two transport vehicles for more than 25

:03:10. > :03:14.years. There's already been international interest in the

:03:15. > :03:19.retirement sale. And you can see more of his unique collection on the

:03:20. > :03:22.BBC website. Sisters with a combined age of 200

:03:23. > :03:25.have been celebrating their birthday with family and friends in North

:03:26. > :03:28.Devon today. Freda and Doll are identical twins who were born on May

:03:29. > :03:36.fifth 1914. Spotlight's Leigh Rundle was invited to the party.

:03:37. > :03:43.They were born five minutes apart, but today arrived together in style.

:03:44. > :03:48.They treated me like royalty. When the car pulled up, I said, I'm not

:03:49. > :03:52.royalty, you know! You didn't know that the Rolls`Royce was picking you

:03:53. > :03:57.up? No, I didn't know. They kept it all a secret. This is all

:03:58. > :04:03.marvellous. Are you enjoying yourself? Yes, very nice. I didn't

:04:04. > :04:07.expect all this. Among the guests, their two younger sisters, who are

:04:08. > :04:12.both in their 90s. A full five generations of the family were here.

:04:13. > :04:18.It is absolutely amazing that twins, identical twin sisters, live to be

:04:19. > :04:23.100 years old. Even more so that two of their sisters are here. What do

:04:24. > :04:28.they put their longevity down to? Well, their dad's home`grown veg. We

:04:29. > :04:33.were brought up in the country, and we had all fresh veg, because money

:04:34. > :04:37.was scarce in those days. Mum and Dad always used to give us plenty of

:04:38. > :04:52.vegetables and that sort of thing. So I think we started in life well.

:04:53. > :04:55.And it shows no sign of letting up. Congratulations. Let's take a look

:04:56. > :05:01.at the weather now. Congratulations. Let's take a look

:05:02. > :05:05.at the weather After a lovely dry weekend in the South West the rain

:05:06. > :05:09.is setting in. It is moving steadily and by tomorrow morning it will have

:05:10. > :05:13.gone through but this week is more unsettled. There will be showers and

:05:14. > :05:18.longer spells of rain and breezy at times. The winds are from the

:05:19. > :05:22.south`west, low pressure takes charge of the weather in the next

:05:23. > :05:28.few days, lines are showers coming our way. One area of rain moves over

:05:29. > :05:32.tonight that will be gone by the morning, temperatures down into

:05:33. > :05:35.single figures and for tomorrow morning we should get some sunshine,

:05:36. > :05:40.but then the showers progress through the morning and into the

:05:41. > :05:45.afternoon and may form lines, so some of us could get some quite wet

:05:46. > :05:50.weather, temperatures up to about 15 degrees. The outlook is for further

:05:51. > :05:55.sharp words and cloudy conditions on Wednesday, more persistent rain

:05:56. > :05:58.setting in on Thursday and more showery into Friday.

:05:59. > :05:59.That's all from us. Don't forget the last in the current series of Late

:06:00. > :06:11.Kick Off starts on BBC One at If you have enjoyed an entire

:06:12. > :06:16.weekend of fine weather it is highly likely next weekend you will not.

:06:17. > :06:19.The weather is changing, it is turning more unsettled. Breezy this

:06:20. > :06:23.week, especially in the West. Showers but not raining all the

:06:24. > :06:25.time. Occasionally it will be dry and bright. Rain has been touring

:06:26. > :06:32.with part of the UK through the weekend. Some heavy bursts pushing

:06:33. > :06:36.eastwards across the UK for the rest of the night. Some clear spells

:06:37. > :06:44.developing in the west later. Nowhere is particularly cold. The

:06:45. > :06:46.North East Scotland Scotland will push away, though it was still

:06:47. > :06:47.remain in Sheffield
