:00:09. > :00:10.Good evening. us.

:00:11. > :00:14.Pressure is mounting on the Bishop of Winchester to publish a report

:00:15. > :00:17.looking into how Jersey's church dealt with allegations of abuse

:00:18. > :00:21.The Dean, Bob Key, was suspdnded last year for his handling

:00:22. > :00:27.He was later re`instated and a High Court Judge from the UK,

:00:28. > :00:30.Dame Heather Steel, was asked to investigate.

:00:31. > :00:32.Our reporter Christina Ghidoni joined me

:00:33. > :00:40.The Steel Report was commissioned by the Diocese of Winchester after

:00:41. > :00:43.criticism of the way Jersey's church dealt with claims that a vulnerable

:00:44. > :00:47.woman suffered abuse at the home of an island church warden.

:00:48. > :00:50.In its terms of reference it should be given to the Dean, the b`iliff,

:00:51. > :00:55.the Ministry of Justice and anyone who could face disciplinary action.

:00:56. > :01:00.But that hasn't happened yet and in the States, Senator Ian Le Larquand,

:01:01. > :01:04.who was acting Chief Ministdr today, was asked if he would write to the

:01:05. > :01:07.Bishop of Winchester, the Archbishop of Canterbury and Dame Heather Steel

:01:08. > :01:15.to ask for the report to be published as soon as possible.

:01:16. > :01:22.What the report says must bd made public and it is particularly

:01:23. > :01:29.important because the release of the initial report and the suspdnsion

:01:30. > :01:33.without a hearing of the De`n has blackened his name. If this report

:01:34. > :01:35.says he was not at fault, that should be corrected, if it says he

:01:36. > :01:40.was, that should be clarifidd. Meanwhile,

:01:41. > :01:53.one local vicar says he's h`s lost I hope that either public pressure,

:01:54. > :01:59.inviting him to keep his promises, will work, or if that did not work,

:02:00. > :02:06.we would have to ask the Archbishop of Canterbury for help. He said he

:02:07. > :02:10.wanted the truth to come out. If you do, will you persuade your

:02:11. > :02:12.colleagues to release them `` report straightaway.

:02:13. > :02:16.The BBC understands the Bishop of Winchester has written to

:02:17. > :02:19.Jersey's bailiff, confirming he does have the completed Steel Report

:02:20. > :02:22.and that he has sent it to be legally scrutinised

:02:23. > :02:27.We tried to contact the Dean, the Very Reverend Bob Key, but have

:02:28. > :02:31.Jersey's Treasury Minister says there are no plans to settld out

:02:32. > :02:34.of court with a building company that's t`king

:02:35. > :02:36.action against him and the States of Jersey Development Company.

:02:37. > :02:38.Harcourt Developments and four other companies ard taking

:02:39. > :02:41.action over a contract to ddvelop the Esplanade Car Park.

:02:42. > :02:44.Senator Philip Ozouf says the case against him and SOJDC will

:02:45. > :02:47.continue in court but won't affect plans to develop the area.

:02:48. > :02:49.Guernsey's health department is looking for a non`States

:02:50. > :02:54.The job attracts a salary of ?6 per half`day of meetings attended.

:02:55. > :02:56.Health Minister Mark Dorey said today applicants needn't necessarily

:02:57. > :03:02.There's a drive to recruit lore foster carers in Jersey frol

:03:03. > :03:07.43 boys and girls are currently in foster care in the island.

:03:08. > :03:10.Paula Gouveira, the first Portuguese fosterer in Jersey, looks after a

:03:11. > :03:13.three`year`old and a seven`xear`old, as well as her own children, and

:03:14. > :03:28.Obviously it is going to be hard but I have to remind myself thex are not

:03:29. > :03:33.mine. I did something for them. I showed them love, affection and I

:03:34. > :03:35.showed them how to live thehr lives day by day.

:03:36. > 9:56:41A campaign's started to get more women to stand for Guernsey States.

9:56:42 > 9:56:41The aim is to get at least 40 female candidates to put themselves forward

9:56:42 > 9:56:41But what's stopping women from standing in the first places?

9:56:42 > 9:56:41There's always plenty of emotion on election night.

9:56:42 > 9:56:41But for some, one thing that's lacking is women candidates.

9:56:42 > 9:56:41Are there any more potential candidates out there? No, not at

9:56:42 > 9:56:41all. Yes, because there are rules that need to be changed. Most things

9:56:42 > 9:56:41get overturned so there is not much point.

9:56:42 > 9:56:41When you look at the stats, Guernsey States don't do th`t well.

9:56:42 > 9:56:41With just women deputies, it falls behind more a hundred other

9:56:42 > 9:56:41nations when it comes to felale representation in the States.

9:56:42 > 9:56:41Places like Iraq, Afghanist`n, and North Korea.

9:56:42 > 9:56:41This deputy wants that to change, campaigning to get 40 femald

9:56:42 > 9:56:41A Parliament or government should be representative of the peopld it

9:56:42 > 9:56:41serves and we are a long wax from that. Another reason we need more

9:56:42 > 9:56:41women in politics is that women bring some thing different to the

9:56:42 > 9:56:41role. Getting more young people

9:56:42 > 9:56:41involved is another goal. So is being a politician re`lly

9:56:42 > 9:56:41a career path Most politicians appear to be

9:56:42 > 9:56:41middle`aged men and I am nehther middle`aged or a man so that is not

9:56:42 > 9:56:41very appealing to me. Polithcs is something me and my friends are

9:56:42 > 9:56:41interested in but we don't think of it as a career.

9:56:42 > 9:56:41They may not be thinking of it yet, but with another two years

9:56:42 > 9:56:41until the next election, there is time to convince others to

9:56:42 > 9:56:41The Queen's Commonwealth Gales Baton spent its final few hours in Jersey

9:56:42 > 9:56:41today before heading to Guernsey and saw some island icons along the way.

9:56:42 > 9:56:41It started this morning with a stop at Corbiere Lighthouse,

9:56:42 > 9:56:41Six baton`bearers took it up the Railway Walk to Les Quennevais

9:56:42 > 9:56:41playing fields, where it was welcomed by school

9:56:42 > 9:56:41It then stopped off for a photo with a Jersey cow in St Peter,

9:56:42 > 9:56:41And then made its way to the harbour for its next leg

9:56:42 > 9:56:41in Guernsey, where the gemstone at the top of the baton was given

9:56:42 > 9:56:41Tomorrow, the Baton tours Gternsey's primary schools and it heads to

9:56:42 > 9:56:41Join us for that and much more tomorrow at 6.30pm.

9:56:42 > 9:56:41And I'll leave you now with the weather forecast with Dan Downs

9:56:42 > 9:56:41As the Queen's Batten relay continues its tour of the island,

9:56:42 > 9:56:41the weather continues to improve. It is staying dry right through to the

9:56:42 > 9:56:41beginning of the weekend. Overnight tonight, we will see the wind easing

9:56:42 > 9:56:41back to a generally clear nhght and temperatures staying just in double

9:56:42 > 9:56:41figures. Maybe one or two mhssed patches forming as we get towards

9:56:42 > 9:56:41dawn but they should quicklx burn away. Maybe a bit of cloud here and

9:56:42 > 9:56:41there at times but not enough to spoil the day. Temperatures into the

9:56:42 > 9:56:41mid`teens. It is not looking too bad for the rest of the tour as we head

9:56:42 > 9:56:41towards the weekend. Temper`tures gradually starting to creep, made

9:56:42 > 9:56:41you reaching 17 or 18 by Frhday In a moment, the full UK forec`st. I

9:56:42 > 9:56:41will leave you with the sumlary tomorrow evening, but a sunny

9:56:42 > 9:56:41outlook, although it might start to breakdown in some places at the

9:56:42 > 9:56:41weekend. Today the weather was the sort of weather where it couldn t

9:56:42 > 9:56:41really make its mind up. It changed from hour to hour, there

9:56:42 > 9:56:41were storm clouds and thunder and lightning as well. As far as

9:56:42 > 9:56:41tomorrow goes, it will be sunny and warm so you can leave your lawn

9:56:42 > 9:56:41bowlers at home although after today I wouldn't be surprised if you take

9:56:42 > 9:56:41it just in case. You can see some of the big shower clouds moving across

9:56:42 > 9:56:41the country, this is another loop here, the radar scans the horizon

9:56:42 > 9:56:41and tells us where it has been raiding. You can see them over

9:56:42 > 9:56:41Northern Ireland, over eastern England and down to the south-east.

9:56:42 > 9:56:42Towards the end of the night it is going to be dry for
