:00:00. > :00:14.Good evening. Guernsey's Environment Minister has resigned, along with

:00:15. > :00:17.two other board members, ovdr the introduction of paid parking.

:00:18. > :00:21.Deputies voted it through ydsterday along with a raft of other leasures

:00:22. > :00:26.aimed at cutting car use in the island. Penny Elderfield reports.

:00:27. > :00:31.Much like buses, when one resignation crops up, suddenly you

:00:32. > :00:38.get three. Roger Domaille, Barry Paint and Tony Spruce have `ll quit.

:00:39. > :00:43.Not that it came as that much of a shock to States members arrhving

:00:44. > :00:50.today. I am not surprised. H think it is the honourable thing for those

:00:51. > :00:56.who lost out on the voting to do. We want it carried on by peopld fully

:00:57. > :01:01.committed. A strategy that hncluded one thing all three of them didn't

:01:02. > :01:06.want. Paid parking. I am a consistent opponent of paid parking.

:01:07. > :01:15.Whilst I enjoy the job, I think it is time for someone else to lead on

:01:16. > :01:18.the paid parking. And with `nother few resignations to add to the list,

:01:19. > :01:23.the number since the current States was elected is rapidly approaching

:01:24. > :01:28.the 20s. If a department's proposals are rejected by the States, people

:01:29. > :01:33.tend to resign. It tends to happen on issues which divide the public.

:01:34. > :01:36.Of course, as soon as the ndws of a resignation breaks, so does the talk

:01:37. > :01:39.about who'll take on that Mhnister title. And it looks like ond of the

:01:40. > :01:43.politicians who pushed for paid parking is already emerging as a

:01:44. > :01:49.favourite to take the new transport strategy forward. Still thinking

:01:50. > :02:00.about whether she wants the top job, Deputy Yvonne Burford `lready

:02:01. > :02:05.has some support. It will not be for at least a year. We want a

:02:06. > :02:09.first`class bus running before that. It will be a while before it

:02:10. > :02:15.happens. While the public is split on the idea of paid parking, whoever

:02:16. > :02:24.is in charge will have a totgh job convincing everyone the States have

:02:25. > :02:27.got it right this time. Condor says it's working with UK

:02:28. > :02:30.politicians and Channel Isl`nd governments to keep sailing in and

:02:31. > :02:33.out of Weymouth. There were concerns the ferry company would withdraw its

:02:34. > :02:37.service because the berths `t Weymouth are too narrow for a new

:02:38. > :02:40.boat, like this one, it hopds to buy. Local councillors want the UK

:02:41. > :02:45.Government to pay ?10 million towards the necessary work on

:02:46. > :02:48.Weymouth harbour. Meanwhile business leaders in Jersey say Condor still

:02:49. > :02:51.needs to agree it's ramp license or permit to operate in and out of

:02:52. > :02:55.Jersey. At the moment, they are discussing with the authorities for

:02:56. > :02:59.a long`term licence. From otr point of view, this has to be resolved

:03:00. > :03:03.within the next couple of months. We are in an election year. If it is

:03:04. > :03:11.not resolved, it will probably go on until next year.

:03:12. > :03:15.Tesco products could soon bd on sale in the site of a former fancy`dress

:03:16. > :03:18.shop Horseplay in St Helier. The shop on York Street is closhng down

:03:19. > :03:21.and the BBC understands it's been acquired by the Guernsey colpany

:03:22. > :03:24.Alliance which sells Tesco food and groceries in its Guernsey store

:03:25. > :03:28.Managing Director Andrew Bagot recently confirmed it was hoping to

:03:29. > :03:30.do the same in Jersey and w`s in talks about several sites.

:03:31. > :03:33.Jersey's health department hs considering working with thd Isle of

:03:34. > :03:36.Man to look at independent regulation across the health system.

:03:37. > :03:37.Hospitals in both islands are currently self`regulated, although

:03:38. > :03:40.Jersey benchmarks itself ag`inst similar jurisdictions, or the UK, in

:03:41. > :03:43.comparable areas of the health service. The Health Minister has

:03:44. > :03:45.been discussing ways to work together to create regulation

:03:46. > :03:49.suitable for British island jurisdictions and be more cost

:03:50. > :03:51.effective. And you can find out more on that and other questions about

:03:52. > :03:54.Jersey's hospital services `nd future in an hour`long spechal

:03:55. > :03:57.tomorrow on the Matthew Price Breakfast Show on BBC Radio Jersey.

:03:58. > :04:00.That is from a claim. `` 8al. Commonwealth Games fever has touched

:04:01. > :04:03.every part of the Channel Islands over the last five days. Today, the

:04:04. > :04:07.Queen's baton was island`hopping around Alderney, Herm and S`rk and

:04:08. > :04:12.the BBC's Ben Moore was there. The pattern was on its way. Visiting

:04:13. > :04:19.me were most remote parts of the British Isles. The pattern was held

:04:20. > :04:27.aloft as Guernsey's lifeboat brought it to shore at St Andrews to cheers.

:04:28. > :04:34.I have a great nephew running in the relay. Once`in`a`lifetime

:04:35. > :04:42.experience. I am from Glasgow. I can take it with me! The focus was on

:04:43. > :04:52.the children. Grace, Mark Tdrry s first barrel. What was it lhke? ``

:04:53. > :05:01.Alderney's first carrier. Vdry heavy. The hatches were battened

:05:02. > :05:08.down for the race to Sark. The oldest girl at the island's School,

:05:09. > :05:12.Catherine, she brought it from the harbour. On its journey, it has been

:05:13. > :05:20.on a canoe, a steam train and underwater. Here an Sark, f`med for

:05:21. > :05:27.not having any cars on the hsland, it is travelling by what locals call

:05:28. > :05:32.the Toast rack. A crowd gathered. People on these islands are pleased

:05:33. > :05:42.they got to host the relay hn their own way. It is wonderful to being

:05:43. > :05:50.colluded in the relay. Parthcularly for the children. The lifeboat crew

:05:51. > :05:53.delivered the relay to Herm, one of the smallest of the Channel Islands.

:05:54. > :06:01.One of the smaller schools hn the British Isles, nine pupils, but no

:06:02. > :06:10.less an it. It is really he`vy. I am holding a flag. This is me doing

:06:11. > :06:13.gymnastics. The relay has now finished its tour of the Ch`nnel

:06:14. > :06:19.Islands and it is heading north to the UK. It will not forget the

:06:20. > :06:24.reception it got in the southernmost part of the British Isles.

:06:25. > :06:29.That is it from me. I am back tomorrow evening at 6:30pm. David

:06:30. > :06:34.has the Channel Islands werd then next and the national forec`st

:06:35. > :06:38.follows. `` Channel Islands where the next.

:07:19. > :07:23.ahead, not much change. Sunday, a bit more cloud. Changing on Sunday
