:00:45. > :00:48.members is exactly the same across the board. And despite a close vote
:00:49. > :00:53.of 20 for and 23 against, it's been decided that this is how it should
:00:54. > :00:56.continue. This is Senator I`n Gorst. He is the Chief Minister of the
:00:57. > :01:01.States of Jersey. He voted to remove the pay restriction.
:01:02. > :01:04.We are the only parliament hn the world that has one level of pay
:01:05. > :01:07.irrespective of pay or responsibility, time commitlent and
:01:08. > :01:11.the independent body that wd've set up to look at this has asked for it
:01:12. > :01:15.to be removed. This is Deputy John Le Fondre ` he
:01:16. > :01:18.is the Deputy of St Lawrencd and the Assistant Minister for Transport and
:01:19. > :01:26.Technical Services. He voted against removing the pay restriction.
:01:27. > :01:30.The effort involved is not necessarily the volume of work that
:01:31. > :01:33.someone does. It's got to bd about the quality of the decision making,
:01:34. > :01:36.not the quantity. Whether you're a backbencher, a
:01:37. > :01:43.deputy or a minister in Jersey, currently they all earn the same ` a
:01:44. > :01:47.total of ?42,000. The basic annual salary for an MP in Britain is
:01:48. > :01:54.?67,000 but can be less, or much more. But if Jersey's polithcians
:01:55. > :01:58.weren't all paid the same, ht throws up a lot of questions ` likd how do
:01:59. > :02:01.you decide who gets this pax rise? And how do you measure a
:02:02. > :02:03.politician's workload, as wdll as their time and commitment to their
:02:04. > :02:11.job? The States voted today to kdep wages
:02:12. > :02:18.the same for everyone. A beloved jersey Allegri? The ones who do more
:02:19. > :02:22.should get more. I just think it is about value for money. The ones that
:02:23. > :02:26.are doing that extra bit should get paid for it.
:02:27. > :02:31.I think they should make thd difference from one to the other. It
:02:32. > :02:34.depends what kind of jobs they do. This afternoon's vote has ddcided
:02:35. > :02:37.that Jersey will remain the only place in the world where thdir
:02:38. > :02:46.Assembly gets paid exactly the same, whatever your role, whatever you do.
:02:47. > :02:49.Hundreds of islanders in Gudrnsey have signed an online petithon to
:02:50. > :02:52.reverse the States decision to bring in paid parking. Politicians agreed
:02:53. > :02:58.last week that motorists should pay sixty pence an hour to park in long
:02:59. > :03:03.term spaces in about a year's time. Guernsey's health department's is to
:03:04. > :03:06.pay for gender reassignment surgery. In the past it's funded somd
:03:07. > :03:15.services for individuals wanting to change their sex but surgerx hasn't
:03:16. > :03:21.been included in this. Somebody would need this trdatment
:03:22. > :03:27.every three to five years. Ht costs ?11,000. This is a small increase in
:03:28. > :03:31.budget. But the treatment h`s a positive effect on people involved.
:03:32. > :03:34.A Jersey policeman is being treated in hospital tonight after hhs police
:03:35. > :03:37.car flipped over and landed on its roof. The officer wasn't responding
:03:38. > :03:40.to an emergency call when the accident happened on Jersey's east

:04:03. > :04:08.admitted. His condition has been described as comfortable. The road

:04:15. > :04:24.rush hour this morning, before the coast road was reopened abott four

:04:34. > :04:37.responsibility lies with thd Attorney General to establish if an
