:09:25. > :09:30.And now it is time for the weather. It is warming up? It is. We are set

:09:41. > :09:44.Now the weather today, we h`ve been between two weather systems, keeping

:10:39. > :11:09.The forecast tomorrow: Looking at the outlook. Into

:12:21. > :12:24.I think it has been one of the busiest starts to the Royal Cornwall

:12:34. > :12:39.spotlight, we take you on a tour of this 100`acer showground. Today is
:12:40. > :12:42.lived up to the Royal billing with a special visitor. Everyone sdemed to
:12:43. > :12:47.enjoy the sunshine. As ever, there was lots to see and to do. We can
:12:48. > :12:50.show you a little of what is on offer.
:12:51. > :12:59.Andrea has been taking a look around. The Royal Cornwall Show in
:13:00. > :13:04.the sunshine... It's very nhce today. The weather is just right.
:13:05. > :13:09.We have been every year for the last five years. This is the best weather
:13:10. > :13:13.we have started with. We ard lucky there.
:13:14. > :13:18.Thousands of visitors turn tp for the biggest annual event of
:13:19. > :13:25.Cornwall. This, the 220th ydar. It is a great turnout for south
:13:26. > :13:32.Devon. Lovely to see a strong class of hers. Really pleased.
:13:33. > :13:37.I think it is an amazing spdctacle, showing everything that Cornwall is
:13:38. > :13:41.good of and they should be proud of. And a Royal visitor, the cotnt yes,
:13:42. > :13:49.sir of Wessex, with lots to see and a schedule to stick to.
:13:50. > :14:15.`` Countess of Wessex. Judging is tense and the he`t is on
:14:16. > :14:21.for the first prize. When they judge the sheep they will
:14:22. > :14:26.just do that... It is nice hf it falls easy. Tomorrow he is to be
:14:27. > :14:30.shown against the Royal Cornwall winner and the Bath and the West
:14:31. > :14:34.winner. As ever, the animals are thd stars
:14:35. > :14:38.of the show with some playing up to the camera. So day one has been
:14:39. > :14:58.blessed with sun. Just two lore days to go.
:14:59. > :15:05.A very public face there for the Royal Cornwall Show. Behind the
:15:06. > :15:09.scenes farming is a 24/7 job. We are at the cattle ring a popular draw
:15:10. > :15:16.for the crowds. Look at how many are here watching the best anim`ls in
:15:17. > :15:22.show. Yet when the animals `re in show, the norm farm life dust
:15:23. > :15:27.continue, that means that the cows must being milked! There ard about
:15:28. > :15:30.80 dairy cows being shown over the next three days.
:15:31. > :15:34.Cows are judged when they are as full of milk as possible. The way
:15:35. > :15:38.that the udder looks is what the judges are looking for, or one of
:15:39. > :15:46.them so, the timing of the lilking is crucial. This is one of the first
:15:47. > :15:50.breed champions of the day. It is a Cornish`bred Guernsey. Minutes later
:15:51. > :15:56.she is in the milking particle your next door to the cattle shed.
:15:57. > :16:01.We have the particle your open 4 hours a day with staff covering it
:16:02. > :16:05.in eight`hour shifts. What happens to the milk? It is used for the
:16:06. > :16:12.supermarkets. So you could have champion's milk in
:16:13. > :16:18.your cuppa! For the dairy f`rmers it is a five`day show, so the girls are
:16:19. > :16:25.in and out of the milking p`rticle your a few times over the ndxt few
:16:26. > :16:34.days. We have been to see some cows that
:16:35. > :16:40.take themselves to be milked! This is robotic milking. The cows walk in
:16:41. > :16:48.when they are hungry. The m`chine does the cleaning, fits the cups
:16:49. > :16:53.with a 3D laser camera, milks the teets and then steam`cleans itself.
:16:54. > :16:57.But kit like this costs abott ?100,000. But the farmer saxs that
:16:58. > :17:02.his happier cows are produchng more milk.
:17:03. > :17:07.Old style you are pushing them in, stood in the back of a colldcting
:17:08. > :17:12.yard, here they can come whdn they want it is more quiet, relaxed. If a
:17:13. > :17:15.cow is relaxed you produce lore milk. They don't want to be
:17:16. > :17:22.stressed. This machine is called an Astro
:17:23. > :17:28.haute. A giant leap for farling kind? It remains to be seen. But
:17:29. > :17:32.traditional farmers are sayhng it is the way forward.
:17:33. > :17:33.What I love about the Royal Cornwall Show it is the friendly atmosphere
:17:34. > :18:14.here. Whatever avenue you w`lk celebrate than at the Royal Cornwall
:18:15. > :18:19.Show where in 19`27 they met at a young farmer's dance.
:18:20. > :18:24.One of my friends wanted to dance with an other friend. When they
:18:25. > :18:25.parted, Charles said, I will take the one with glasses, so th`t was
:18:26. > :19:46.it. We were again. I am still chewing on that.
:19:47. > :19:52.You are married? Yes, and lhving in England! So, what advice can the
:19:53. > :19:59.Kessels give to the Smiths to are a happy marriage? Always kiss at the
:20:00. > :20:05.end of a night, whatever thd day has brought and just carry on. That is
:20:06. > :20:10.it, yes. A quick kiss for the Missus Yes!
:20:11. > :20:14.The romantic side of the Roxal Cornwall Show. Earlier we wdnt to
:20:15. > :20:19.watch preparations for a rather unusual contest. On the one hand
:20:20. > :20:26.there was horse power, on the other manpower. It was the Cornish pirates
:20:27. > :20:30.versus George the Shire horse. That may sound uneven, numberswise but
:20:31. > :20:37.believe me, George can hold his own. As it was a competition we had to
:20:38. > :20:42.choose which side to support. Natalie chose the horse, just yawned
:20:43. > :20:47.I were cheering for the Cornish Pirates.
:20:48. > :20:50.You would think there would be no contest. This manpower against one
:20:51. > :20:55.horse power. So here is the boy taking on the
:20:56. > :21:00.Pirates. Who is this? This hs George. A seven`year`old Shhre
:21:01. > :21:04.stallion. His birthday was on Tuesday.
:21:05. > :21:09.Happy birthday, George... I am giving it a go. This is the only
:21:10. > :21:15.time I will ever get to trahn with the Cornish Pirates.
:21:16. > :21:27.Can I give you a brush, George? He is lovely and shiny.
:21:28. > :21:30.He is so placid for someone so strong.
:21:31. > :21:34.A beautiful boy. It is too early in the mornhng for
:21:35. > :21:42.this. If you hear a crack, just call the ambulance.
:21:43. > :21:49.Is that OK? George, we did ht, darling! Is that lower? Lowdr?
:21:50. > :21:58.After my recent illness, I `m not so sure this is a good idea.
:21:59. > :22:04.You look like you are suffering He has a pulling capacity of anywhere
:22:05. > :22:08.between five and seven tonnds. Apparently the horse weighs a tonne
:22:09. > :22:16.and it can pull seven tonnes. How much do this lot weigh? Two
:22:17. > :22:22.tons? We have not got a hopd in hell! Now, George, just pull,
:22:23. > :22:46.really, really hard. We have a secret weapon.
:22:47. > :22:51.It is over to you. Wasn't he brilliant? Fantastic. You
:22:52. > :22:54.can find out what happened tomorrow here on Spotlight. OK, it is time
:22:55. > :22:59.for the weather. Obviously David is here. How is it
:23:00. > :23:04.looking? We have done well today. Before I go into the forecast, for
:23:05. > :23:10.the shao showground here. Ldt me show you what we saw earlier. We did
:23:11. > :23:16.not see it but a drone went up above the showground before it opdned We
:23:17. > :23:20.got some great shots of the blue skies and how large the showground
:23:21. > :23:24.is. Much of the morning there was sunshine. Then the cloud crdpt in.
:23:25. > :23:29.It has not spoiled the day `nd the temperatures have been just about
:23:30. > :23:34.right. Let's start with the detaildd
:23:35. > :23:36.forecast for the Royal Cornwall Show:
:23:37. > :23:44.It looks like it could be a warm day tomorrow. Temperatures up to 19
:23:45. > :23:49.Celsius. Showers in the morning but the sunshine back out in thd
:23:50. > :23:54.afternoon. A greater risk of seeing showers develop by Saturday, of
:23:55. > :23:59.course the last day. From the satellite picture there is the cloud
:24:00. > :24:03.developing in the Atlantic. That is the area of low pressure we are
:24:04. > :24:09.watching. It is creeping towards us. By the middle of the day tolorrow,
:24:10. > :24:15.it is just a little closer. By lunch time on Saturday, there is ` weather
:24:16. > :24:19.front to introdoes heavy and possibly thundery showers.
:24:20. > :24:24.Here is the extent of the cloud we have seen today. It has built up a
:24:25. > :24:30.little bit. We have seen ond or two light showers. Not many of those for
:24:31. > :24:34.us, for most of the south`wdst of England a dry and fine day.
:24:35. > :24:39.Overnight, we will see more cloud coming in from the south`west. A bit
:24:40. > :24:45.of that cloud is arriving hdre in this part of Cornwall. Spre`ding
:24:46. > :24:52.over Cornwall and Devon and producing some light spots of rain.
:24:53. > :25:01.Also cloudy with spots of r`in through much of Cornwall and Devon.
:25:02. > :25:05.Temperatures no lower than nine or ten Celsius.
:25:06. > :25:10.Tomorrow, things get better, we see more in the way of sunshine. A much
:25:11. > :25:16.warmer day. The winds from the south or the south`east. Increasing
:25:17. > :25:21.through the day. They could bring warmth and sunshine for Dorset and
:25:22. > :25:25.Somerset with some of the hhghest temperatures here. Up to possibly 21
:25:26. > :25:31.Celsius. To the west, the more cloud we are
:25:32. > :26:24.likely to see. Now the forecast for the Isles of Scilly:
:26:25. > :26:29.An update for you at the sale time tomorrow.
:26:30. > :26:33.That is it for the first dax of the Royal Cornwall Show. There hs lots
