:01:54. > :01:57.Today, the former father of the Paris was convicted on 10 counts of

:01:58. > :02:01.misconduct in public office. He did not want to talk on his way out of

:02:02. > :02:07.court but he is a wealthy m`n. Will you be saying anything to the media?

:02:08. > :02:09.He made his money and property before taking office. The

:02:10. > :02:15.prosecution said he committdd the offences not to get rich but through

:02:16. > :02:20.arrogance. He told the court he simply had forgotten to rep`y them.

:02:21. > :02:33.The jury said it happened too often to be simple oversights.

:02:42. > :02:50.sent to prison. The judge c`lled it a serious offence now community can

:02:51. > :02:53.tolerate. Government workers in Guernsey are threatening to act

:02:54. > :03:05.unless more is done to improve their pay conditions. Employees mdt to

:03:06. > :03:11.discuss the offer. The union member says his representatives ard very

:03:12. > :03:17.angry. It is a threat. Therd are some very angry people, talking

:03:18. > :03:24.amongst themselves seeing if Bob cannot sort it out they shotld sort

:03:25. > :03:27.it themselves. Today marks the 0th anniversary of D`Day. There were

:03:28. > :03:29.many from our island is fighting on that day and the BBC has bedn to

:03:30. > :03:54.meet some of them. Among them paying their respects

:03:55. > :04:00.were Channel Island veterans, some of them making their 1st visits

:04:01. > :04:07.since the war. I spoke to 2 of them making the journey. Are meeting for

:04:08. > :04:14.the 1st time about to set s`il for France. On D`Day, John was carrying

:04:15. > :04:19.an anti`tank guns and bombs when he waded onshore. It was scary but you

:04:20. > :04:26.knew what you did it to do `nd it was a case of get off the bdach as

:04:27. > :04:32.soon as you could. You did not really have time to appreci`te

:04:33. > :04:43.anything. Your main object was to get off the beach. He said the

:04:44. > :04:57.mortars were particularly h`rrowing. We were ordered, we were shdlled,

:04:58. > :05:11.then the big came up behind us. `` the big guns. The noise was

:05:12. > :05:18.terrible. Terrible. Even today, the memories are too painful to share. I

:05:19. > :05:23.walked along the beach, see if it was as I remembered it. It hs not

:05:24. > :05:31.good standing here and talkhng about it. All right. The Channel Hsland

:05:32. > :05:34.veterans live in the closest part of Britain to the Normandy beaches

:05:35. > :05:39.They found the courage to go back after all the horrors of war and no

:05:40. > :05:50.doubt they feel proud that they and all their friends who never came

:05:51. > :05:57.back are being honoured tod`y. I had tunnel vision. I was not looking

:05:58. > :06:03.this way that way, I would just get on beach. When we went in, there was

:06:04. > :06:07.a destroyer that had been stnk sticking out of the water, `nd all

:06:08. > :06:16.the dead bodies around it, `nd then the carnage on the beaches. Driving

:06:17. > :06:20.through the minefield. It w`s pretty frightening, actually. When the

:06:21. > :06:25.fighting finished and they return home they found a very diffdrent

:06:26. > :06:28.Island to the one they had left Everywhere there were reminders of

:06:29. > :06:32.the occupation they had esc`ped From the prisoners of war clearing

:06:33. > :06:39.the minefield to the bunkers and barbed wire, Jersey would ndver be

:06:40. > :06:42.the same again. 70 years on, the Normandy veterans still remdmber

:06:43. > :06:48.what they did with pride. So do the people of France, who this xear gave

:06:49. > :06:52.them a gift of sand from Om`ha Beach. These men from a small island

:06:53. > :06:58.played an important part in one of history's biggest battles. Thank you

:06:59. > :07:04.to those veterans for sharing their stories with us. That is thd news

:07:05. > :07:11.tonight. I will leave you whth the weather forecast. Good evenhng, it

:07:12. > :07:15.has been a warm day in the Channel Islands today. Breezy at tiles but

:07:16. > :07:19.into the weekend we are expdcting thundery showers. Although H think

:07:20. > :07:24.we will see plenty of sunny spells as well. This low pressure hs trying

:07:25. > :07:29.to push some cold air towards the east. At the same time, warl air is

:07:30. > :07:33.coming up from the continent. Where they collide we see some thtndery

:07:34. > :07:36.showers but once this cold front pushes through tomorrow I think

:07:37. > :07:39.things should freshen and sdttle down a bit. For tonight we `re

:07:40. > :07:47.starting to see those showers pushing up. It is quite a htmid

:07:48. > :07:54.night full stop average is not falling much below 14 or 15 degrees.

:07:55. > :07:59.Some of those showers will be around but I think they will clear through

:08:00. > :08:03.the morning and by then it will tend to be drier and brighter with some

:08:04. > :08:06.sunshine, particularly for the afternoon. Temperatures will be

:08:07. > :08:11.creeping into the 20s for some of us. Still a risk of showers but

:08:12. > :08:14.generally it should be dry. Generally another dry day on Sunday

:08:15. > :08:19.with further sunny spells and light wind. Just the chance of a shower

:08:20. > :08:21.arriving. It is a similar phcture as we go into the working week. In

:08:22. > :08:23.improve to some extent. Phe showers move !way an$ a fre3h `ppe!l to

:08:24. > :08:31.things. Good evening. The good news is,

:08:32. > :08:35.there will be some decent dry on a sunny moment to come through the

:08:36. > :08:39.weekend. But over the next 24 hours, the threat of thunderstorms

:08:40. > :08:43.looms large. The ingredients have been coming together today - warm

:08:44. > :08:45.air pushing northwards out of Iberia, cooler air from the Atlantic

:08:46. > :08:46.trying to pushed
