:00:31. > :00:43.But living on an island, price will always be a factor.

:00:44. > :00:45.We all know it can be expensive to get away.

:00:46. > :00:49.But when we do go abroad, are we paying more in tax to the UK

:00:50. > :00:54.Air Passenger Duty is in general terms a tax charged

:00:55. > :01:01.And at the moment we pay it even if we're only there for a couple

:01:02. > :01:05.of hours waiting for another connecting flight.

:01:06. > :01:09.And travel agents like this one say that's wrong.

:01:10. > :01:24.About ?3.5 million is going on passenger numbers from Guernsey and

:01:25. > :01:29.two connecting flights. The law clearly states that they should not

:01:30. > :01:33.be paying the duty if they `re connecting within 24 hours.

:01:34. > :01:35.But HM Treasury reads the law differently,

:01:36. > :01:37.saying connecting flights are exempt from air passenger duty.

:01:38. > :01:39.But that to be considered as connected,

:01:40. > :01:42.the two tickets need to be linked to each other, to make it one journey.

:01:43. > :01:45.And that the second flight needs to take off within a certain time.

:01:46. > :01:48.But so convinced that Guernsey's got a case to make, the Commercd

:01:49. > :01:56.and Employment Minister isn't ruling out legal action to fight this.

:01:57. > :02:02.We are in the right, not just in the way that the UK are interprdting

:02:03. > :02:07.their own rules, but this is also a question on charter which s`ys that

:02:08. > :02:10.we should be clear of taxes that UK ports.

:02:11. > :02:12.He's planning to raise the hssue at the British Irish Council

:02:13. > :02:15.But as politicians fly in to Guernsey for that, for anyone

:02:16. > :02:19.heading overseas the air passenger duty isn't going anywhere ydt.

:02:20. > :02:22.A Jersey shop owner's been found guilty of stabbing his business

:02:23. > :02:25.partner so deeply it pierced his liver and left him in intensive

:02:26. > :02:28.care. It took the jury less than three hours to find 49`year`old Neil

:02:29. > :02:30.William Bennett guilty of attacking Justin Sumrie after a night drinking

:02:31. > :02:37.and discussing business. Jen Smith was in court.

:02:38. > :02:40.Neil Bennett's been remanded in custody as he waits to hdar his

:02:41. > :02:43.sentence after being found guilty of grave and criminal assault.

:02:44. > :02:46.The owner of what was the menswear shop

:02:47. > :02:48.White Collar on Broad Street and his business partner Justin Sumrie

:02:49. > :02:54.had been drinking last Septdmber before going back to Bennett's.

:02:55. > :02:57.The court heard Bennett att`cked Mr Sumrie 'completely out

:02:58. > :02:59.of the blue' with a kitchen knife, stabbing him deeply in

:03:00. > :03:05.Bennett's defence had argued Mr Sumrie had struck first

:03:06. > :03:08.after being told he couldn't use the shop to hide money

:03:09. > :03:16.But the jury agreed with the prosecution that Bennett was

:03:17. > :03:19.'menacing' and 'unrecognisable' as he stabbed Mr Sumrie

:03:20. > :03:23.Much of the evidence over the three day trial was

:03:24. > :03:26.about the business, with thd prosecution arguing it was on the

:03:27. > :03:30.The jury heard the men's 15 year friendship spilled over that night

:03:31. > :03:35.The judge Peter Beaumont agreed with Advocate Matthew Jowitt that Bennett

:03:36. > :03:39.is 'unpredictable' and 'potentially dangerous'

:03:40. > :03:48.so should be remanded in custody as he waits sentencing in Atgust.

:03:49. > :03:50.Health authorities in the Channel Islands are warning about the

:03:51. > :03:53.dangers of injecting a prescription painkiller called Fentanyl

:03:54. > :03:57.The inquests into the deaths of 35`year`old Bradley Marthn

:04:06. > :04:08.Matthew Burrow from Jersey died after injecting Fentanyl whhch is

:04:09. > :04:12.usually supplied by pharmachsts with a doctor?s prescription.

:04:13. > :04:16.Matthew was found collapsed in the bathroom of his grandmother?s home.

:04:17. > :04:19.Fentanyl can be up to 100 thmes stronger than morphine and ht's

:04:20. > :04:33.claimed a patch of it can change hands on the street for up to ? 0.

:04:34. > :04:38.Fentanyl has been implicated in several deaths over the years, and

:04:39. > :04:44.since then, we have introduced some measures to limit the avail`bility

:04:45. > :04:49.of the drug. Specifically wd have issued GPs and other doctors with

:04:50. > :04:53.guidelines about the safe prescribing in order to limht the AV

:04:54. > :04:56.ability of the drugs on the street. `` the availability.

:04:57. > :04:57.However, doctors and GPs don't want to

:04:58. > :05:05.regulate its usage, as the ledicine is vital for patients who use it.

:05:06. > :05:15.It is very popular in Jersex, because those with bad cancdr pain,

:05:16. > :05:20.those in the hospice, they do not tend to get nausea, constip`tion, so

:05:21. > :05:23.from a medical point of view, it is extremely effective.

:05:24. > :05:25.Matthew's death isn't the only one related to Fentanyl.

:05:26. > :05:27.In Guernsey, a verdict of accidental death was returned this week

:05:28. > :05:31.at the inquest of Bradley M`rtin, who was 35, he was found de`d

:05:32. > :05:41.in his home in Mill Street hn May this year after injecting Fdntanyl.
