:01:17. > :01:19.across northern and central apeas One of the o$d qhar0 shower. Logking

:01:20. > :01:22.forward to the weekend. Drier weather to come.

:01:23. > :01:26.A reminder of the m!in story thas evening: More than two years `fter

:01:27. > :01:29.it was attacked, Britain i3 to re-open its embassy in eye rapnan's

:01:30. > :01:43.following a breakthrough i. relations. -- in Ar!n.

:01:44. > :01:51.We'll be live at the scene with the latest.

:01:52. > :01:53.An inquest hears how a man renovating

:01:54. > :02:11.And I'm finding out how a ndw rule means this pool has to be extended.

:02:12. > :02:14.A light aircraft has crashed after taking off from Guernsey airport.

:02:15. > :02:17.The incident happened just `fter 5 o clock and fire crews from the

:02:18. > :02:21.airport are at the scene whhch is believed to be close to Fordst Road.

:02:22. > :02:47.What is the latest? The roads are closed but the main prioritx is to

:02:48. > :02:51.get rid of the fuel. It crashed on take`off half a mile from the

:02:52. > :02:58.eastern end of the runway and came down in some trees on top of the

:02:59. > :03:01.greenhouse. We have been as close as possible to the scene beford the

:03:02. > :03:10.police and emergency servicd cordons were put off. Maybe 15 yards away.

:03:11. > :03:17.We could see the tail plate. You could smell the fuel and here

:03:18. > :03:20.firefighters just beyond thd hedge talking about the amount of fuel

:03:21. > :03:26.this plane had on it and how they were going to get rid of it. We

:03:27. > :03:32.spoke to a next`door neighbour but most people have been evacu`ted She

:03:33. > :03:35.said she was not that concerned and wondered whether the greenhouse was

:03:36. > :03:45.being demolished and then rtn out to the garden. The main problel at the

:03:46. > :03:48.moment is getting rid of thd fuel and as we understand that nobody has

:03:49. > :03:56.been injured but it is caushng delays.

:03:57. > :03:57.We will have more on that for you throughout the evening.

:03:58. > :04:00.An inquest has heard that a man who died at a house bding

:04:01. > :04:04.62`year`old Georges Le Maistre was working at the property at

:04:05. > :04:07.Upper Midvale Road in St Helier when he was killed last week.

:04:08. > :04:12.Today's inquest focused on personal details so that Mr Le Maistre?s body

:04:13. > :04:19.The details of what happened here on 9th June are subject to ` Health

:04:20. > :04:23.Safety Inspectorate investigation that is underway.

:04:24. > :04:26.The deputy viscount was told that a post mortem examination found

:04:27. > :04:28.the cause of death was traulatic asphyxiation, compression

:04:29. > :04:33.of the chest, and that the results of toxicology and histological

:04:34. > :04:41.The police said that the accident wasn't being treated as suspicious.

:04:42. > :04:44.The insurers for Mr Le Maistre?s employers, Skinner Skips,

:04:45. > :04:46.were at the hearing, which was adjourned until

:04:47. > :04:56.Guernsey's fire service rescued four people this morning

:04:57. > :05:06.after a fire broke out at a hotel in St Peter Port.

:05:07. > :05:08.Most of the residents and staff had evacuated the

:05:09. > :05:11.Grange Lodge Hotel when fird officers arrived just after 4:3 am,

:05:12. > :05:13.but a few were still in smoke locked rooms.

:05:14. > :05:15.One person has been treated for smoke inhalation.

:05:16. > :05:19.The fire is believed to havd started in the laundry room.

:05:20. > :05:30.Early signs are that clothes drying in a tumble dryer and commercial

:05:31. > :05:31.laundry is a known risk, and this is quite small but extremely

:05:32. > :05:38.efficient. High level swimming competitions can

:05:39. > :05:41.no longer be held at the Be`u Sejour swimming pool in Guernsey,

:05:42. > :05:43.because it's too short. A recent change in regulations set

:05:44. > :05:45.by the International governhng body of swimming, means the 25 mdtre pool

:05:46. > :05:48.is fractionally too small when If national competitions ard to be

:05:49. > :05:52.held there in future, the pool must be extended,

:05:53. > :05:58.as Emma Chambers reports. Beau Sejour is the home to

:05:59. > :06:03.the Barracudors swimming cltb. It's also been the home to national

:06:04. > :06:05.swimming competitions in Gudrnsey A recent rule change means

:06:06. > :06:17.the pool is now considered too small when electronic timing pads are used

:06:18. > :06:22.in the water. Beau Sejour has been the centre

:06:23. > :06:25.of swimming obviously And the ASA originally accepted 25

:06:26. > :06:34.metre pools and putting the pads in, this was acceptable, but because

:06:35. > :06:37.the new pools are being built with this extra bit they've deemdd all

:06:38. > :06:46.pools have to be re`measured. And unfortunately Beau Sejotr didn't

:06:47. > :06:48.meet regulations, this is one

:06:49. > :06:53.of the electronic timing devices that are put at the end of dach lane

:06:54. > :06:57.during competitions and as xou can see they're not very thick `t all in

:06:58. > :07:03.fact they're only about 1cm wide. But now this new rule means

:07:04. > :07:06.the pool is too short They must be now held at thd pool

:07:07. > :07:12.in St Sampsons. The St Sampsons pool hasn't got

:07:13. > :07:18.a swim down pool so when you get a bit older,

:07:19. > :07:21.when you have a big programle, it makes it that much more difficult

:07:22. > :07:24.to race over a weekend. You need to flush that lacthc out

:07:25. > :07:28.before you get to the next race That could deter visiting tdams

:07:29. > :07:30.so the Minister in charge is keen We would have to take the thles off,

:07:31. > :07:38.skim some of the concrete We don't know what?s involvdd

:07:39. > :07:41.unfortunately with the cost. That's something we'll have to go to

:07:42. > :07:43.property services Being one centimetre short hsn't

:07:44. > :07:49.affecting these swimmers preparations for the

:07:50. > :07:51.Commonwealth Games taking place next month but they hope a soluthon can

:07:52. > :07:54.be found so Beau Sejour doesn't sink Finance companies in Jersey are

:07:55. > :08:11.preparing for a lot more paperwork, as the States have passed l`ws to

:08:12. > :08:14.hand over tax information to the The Foreign Account Tax Compliance

:08:15. > :08:18.Acts, or FATCAs, are designdd to clamp down on people who sedk to

:08:19. > :08:21.hide their assets offshore. Clare Burton was

:08:22. > :08:23.following today's States sitting Today's votes mean extra work

:08:24. > :08:26.for our finance companies They'll have to collate all the

:08:27. > :08:30.earnings and assets of Amerhcan and UK clients and send all that data

:08:31. > :08:35.back to their home tax authorities. The Chief Minister him

:08:36. > :08:37.self admits it's a burden, It helps us get on and stay

:08:38. > :08:42.on international white lists and Does it mean the likes of Jhmmy Carr

:08:43. > :09:06.can't use questionable methods to They are two very different issues.

:09:07. > :09:12.The others one about abusivd or artificial tax planning, whhch we

:09:13. > :09:17.are also taking action on, but these agreements about the automatic

:09:18. > :09:20.exchange of information, so if the UK authorities were concerndd about

:09:21. > :09:22.a particular scheme, they would have the information that would have been

:09:23. > :09:26.provided from Jersey. What else were members

:09:27. > :09:28.discussing today? There were also a couple

:09:29. > :09:30.of questions about Condor, `s the government is currently in talks

:09:31. > :09:33.about giving the company a long term They say they need that guarantee

:09:34. > :09:39.before they spend ?50 million But Deputy Sean Power wanted

:09:40. > :09:56.his own guarantees that we `ren t Normally if you are running this,

:09:57. > :10:00.you do not get into what thd operator does, you give thel a

:10:01. > :10:07.license, so we are involved with the type of ship and the tight timescale

:10:08. > :10:10.in which they have to concltde negotiations, so I was concdrned.

:10:11. > :10:12.And finally, remember the controversy ovdr

:10:13. > :10:14.a big sci`fi movie called Chrystal Island being filmed in Jersdy?

:10:15. > :10:16.The States put up ?200,000 for pre`production work.

:10:17. > :10:19.But we heard today the whole thing's been put on hold

:10:20. > :10:38.In tennis, Guernsey's Heather Watson is

:10:39. > :10:41.about to start her first rotnd match on centre court at the Eastbourne

:10:42. > :10:43.Ageon championship. The British number One will take on Bulgarian

:10:44. > :10:46.Tsvetana Pironkova as she prepares for Wimbledon next week. Watson who

:10:47. > :10:49.spent most of last year recovering from glandular fever says hdr new

:10:50. > :10:51.aggressive style is helping her win more matches.

:10:52. > :10:58.I think it is not just being positive but showing how positive

:10:59. > :11:01.URL that is what I am trying to do, playing aggressively, and that is

:11:02. > :11:08.something that will take me to the next level where I want to go. And

:11:09. > :11:32.good luck. Coverage of that is on the BBC red button.

:11:33. > :11:34.gone unrepaired and doesn't attract a mortgage. The report has some

:11:35. > :11:41.strong words for the governlent about the way it finances flood

:11:42. > :11:46.defence work doesn't it? Yes and not just in terms of the overall money

:11:47. > :11:50.put into flood defences. It says the government puts vastly more resource

:11:51. > :11:54.into building new flood defdnces and it does in terms of repairing

:11:55. > :11:59.existing ones and keeping watercourses in good order. A range

:12:00. > :12:04.of things which it says makd flooding less likely or less severe.

:12:05. > :12:08.The chair of the committee `lso said that part of the problem is that

:12:09. > :12:16.these two budgets are kept separate. She did a good move that division it

:12:17. > :12:20.could benefit communities. We recommend the Treasury allows a

:12:21. > :12:27.total expenditure budget to merge the capital. We believe this would

:12:28. > :12:35.help areas like coastal and tidal flood defences. We spoke to the

:12:36. > :12:40.North Cornwall MP Dan Rogerson and he defended the way the govdrnment

:12:41. > :12:45.had dealt with the situation since the winter floods. We are spending

:12:46. > :12:49.more in this parliament than any previous government. We spending

:12:50. > :13:03.?3.2 billion on flood defences. We Inc this is real progress but we

:13:04. > :13:08.will look at the report and if there are issues where we can improve what

:13:09. > :13:14.we've done and that's what we'll do. That's about all the Ministdr can

:13:15. > :13:18.say at this point. He now whll take the report away and scrutinhse it in

:13:19. > :13:28.detail before coming back whth a lengthy written response. In a

:13:29. > :13:32.moment we will find out why they are concerned about home care in

:13:33. > :13:37.Cornwall. Some vulnerable pdople say about terrified about changds to the

:13:38. > :13:39.system. And the moving theatre experience with a differencd, a play

:13:40. > :13:56.in an ambulance. A Royal Marine rescued

:13:57. > :13:58.a woman who went overboard The Ferry put out a Mayday call

:13:59. > :14:03.at about half past seven yesterday. Brixham Coastguard say the Larine

:14:04. > :14:06.grabbed a life jacket dived in, and kept the woman's head above the

:14:07. > :14:09.water until the lifeboat arrived. Some elderly and vulnerable people

:14:10. > :14:12.in Cornwall say they feel "terrified" about potential changes

:14:13. > :14:15.to who looks after them at home The Council has cut the number

:14:16. > :14:17.of contracts for businesses It insists it's about quality

:14:18. > :14:21.of care rather than saving loney, but carers say they're worrhed

:14:22. > :14:23.about their jobs Often

:14:24. > :14:27.the only people Judith sees are her You just have to structure

:14:28. > :14:33.your day and look forward to it But the future of the company that

:14:34. > :14:39.provides Judith's carers is one of dozens across Cornwall f`cing

:14:40. > :14:42.an uncertain future. The council has cut the number

:14:43. > :14:46.of firms with contracts from 105 to 29, with the option

:14:47. > :14:49.for some others to subcontr`ct. There is going to be even ldss

:14:50. > :14:53.knowing who is coming, what time they are coming,

:14:54. > :14:57.what they are going to do. The council insists the changes are

:14:58. > :15:03.designed to improve quality, value But it's not only service

:15:04. > :15:08.users that are worried. Alice has worked

:15:09. > :15:11.in community care for six ydars You are going to have carers who end

:15:12. > :15:16.up leaving the profession, and we do call it a professhon,

:15:17. > :15:20.and will end up going into jobs that I think you will end up with a big

:15:21. > :15:25.struggle then of bed blocking. That will end up costing

:15:26. > :15:28.the council a lot more than they Cornwall Council was unable to

:15:29. > :15:33.provide anyone for an interview but did tell us in a statemdnt that

:15:34. > :15:37.social care services are under It also says it fully understands

:15:38. > :15:41.that this is a very difficult time for providers

:15:42. > :15:44.that were unsuccessful, and that the new contracts will be

:15:45. > :15:47.phased in over the next six months. It also says that people who

:15:48. > :15:50.receive council commissioned services will be fully supported

:15:51. > :15:55.to understand their options. We do feel sometimes that wd

:15:56. > :16:00.are just a throwaway commodhty. We do feel that

:16:01. > :16:04.the council are overlooking the value that we give in, comp`red to

:16:05. > :16:07.something that could be ?1 cheaper. It just seems very wrong

:16:08. > :16:11.when you have elderly peopld that The authority says

:16:12. > :16:15.the new contract arrangements will Something those on the ground

:16:16. > :16:20.say they will be doing too. And you can read more

:16:21. > :16:28.on that story on BBC News online. A dog has been reunited with

:16:29. > :16:31.its owner after being spottdd The staffie`cross called Harry went

:16:32. > :16:37.AWOL from his home in Babbacombe Coastguards say it's

:16:38. > :16:40.a mystery how he ended up Details of more than 1,000 fossils

:16:41. > :16:50.discovered along the Jurasshc Coast Magnified photographs

:16:51. > :16:53.and scientific descriptions of the fossils, held by museums along

:16:54. > :16:58.the Dorset and East Devon Coast have been included on the Jtrassic

:16:59. > :17:00.Coast Fossil Finder databasd. Many of the fossils included are

:17:01. > :17:06.more than 500 million years old A scheme to help cut the nulber

:17:07. > :17:09.of people suffering with type two diabetes

:17:10. > :17:13.in Devon is being hailed a success. Diabetes can lead to heart disease,

:17:14. > :17:16.strokes, nerve damage and blindness. Two of the five trial sites

:17:17. > :17:19.in England for the Living Well Taking Control scheme

:17:20. > :17:22.are in Exeter and Tiverton. They give people advice

:17:23. > :17:26.and support on how to make small changes to their diet and fhtness

:17:27. > :17:28.which can halt the disease. Neither Valerie nor Ann are

:17:29. > :17:37.your typical gym goers. They have type two diabetes

:17:38. > :17:39.but they've become regulars at the Westbank Healthy Livhng

:17:40. > :17:43.Centre in Exminster. They're part of a trial to help

:17:44. > :17:54.reduce levels of diabetes. It was only through Val putting me

:17:55. > :17:58.in. She said, come on, let's go to the gym. That started me off. Before

:17:59. > :18:03.I was just sitting in the chair doing nothing. Now you feel as if

:18:04. > :18:05.you want to get up and do lots of different things.

:18:06. > :18:11.People get together in small groups to discuss how diabetes effdcts

:18:12. > :18:14.them, but most importantly how to reduce blood sugar levels and help

:18:15. > :18:26.It's quite hard for them to make those changes. To actually have

:18:27. > :18:31.somewhere to come back to to share what they have done actuallx

:18:32. > :18:36.encourages them to get on and do it. If they needed practical support

:18:37. > :18:38.then it's there for them to. A lot of people don't know how to make

:18:39. > :18:40.those changes. It's a growing problem; a third

:18:41. > :18:42.of adults have pre`diabetes. That's increased three fold

:18:43. > :18:55.in a decade. The simple things involved can be

:18:56. > :19:01.like cutting out sugar. One person on the trial has suffered from

:19:02. > :19:02.diabetes from 12 years and got rid of the potatoes from a shepherd 's

:19:03. > :19:06.pie. It's still early days

:19:07. > :19:09.but the results from the 200 of the 500 people needed to give

:19:10. > :19:25.a full assessment It was hard. When I started coming

:19:26. > :19:27.here and the gym I've gone right back down to normal again, so they

:19:28. > :19:28.tell me. The key is keeping with

:19:29. > :19:30.the changed regime. Valerie and Ann say

:19:31. > :19:33.the benefits will see them try Hamish Marshall, BBC Spotlight,

:19:34. > :19:52.Exminster Many of you have been in totch

:19:53. > :19:56.tonight about our main storx. Godfrey has e`mailed and asked

:19:57. > :20:01.whether the with the closurd of so many Devon care homes, what of those

:20:02. > :20:14.who are forced to sell their homes with the increase in costs.

:20:15. > :20:15.says the changes are is short`sighted. Thank you for all

:20:16. > :20:17.getting in touch. Please kedp your getting in touch. Please kedp your

:20:18. > :20:19.comments coming. Now, how about this for

:20:20. > :20:23.an alternative theatre experience? A new play which has opened

:20:24. > :20:26.in Plymouth takes place on the move, The Kindness of Strangers follows

:20:27. > :20:29.the story of two paramedics The drama is acted out as

:20:30. > :20:34.the ambulance travels to different The BBC's David Fitzgerald

:20:35. > :20:40.went along for the ride. I'm shown to my seat by a p`ramedic,

:20:41. > :20:43.and that seat is in the most Audience members follow the story

:20:44. > :22:20.of young paramedic Lisa Exeter City have arguably the most

:22:21. > :22:23.attractive draw as they facd nearby Championship club Bournemouth at

:22:24. > :22:26.St James Park, having last let them Yeovil Town will host fellow

:22:27. > :22:31.League One side Gillingham `t Huish Park, while Plymouth @rgyle

:22:32. > :22:34.take on the beaten League One All the games will be played in the

:22:35. > :22:45.week beginning the 11th of @ugust. It seems some of us,

:22:46. > :22:47.myself included, have gone And while most

:22:48. > :22:52.of us are content to stay up late to watch the games or pick a tdam out

:22:53. > :22:56.of a sweepstake, a man from Honiton Spotlight's Brent Pilnick h`s been

:22:57. > :23:04.to see what could be Britain's As if we needed reminding

:23:05. > :23:09.about England's opening loss. But if you drive down Dowell Street

:23:10. > :23:14.you can't fail to notice it all The front of one

:23:15. > :23:16.of the houses has been turndd into what must be Britain's biggest

:23:17. > :23:21.World Cup wall chart. And for the signwriter who lives

:23:22. > :23:32.here, it's a labour of love. Going out there every day and

:23:33. > :23:37.putting up the scores, and hf I don't the public let me know, so I

:23:38. > :23:42.end up having to make sure `fter every match I get out. Even the late

:23:43. > :23:54.one, at night. I have to make sure the score is up before the lorning.

:23:55. > :23:59.To give you an idea of how big the water is I have bought mine along

:24:00. > :24:07.from the office. Mine is tiny and pales in insignificance compared to

:24:08. > :24:14.it. It's lovely to see the sign go up. When they take the sign down the

:24:15. > :24:23.garage door will look like ` mess into it gets painted again. It seems

:24:24. > :24:27.like England are unlikely to make it to the centre of this chart. But the

:24:28. > :24:33.locals have no excuse for not knowing the scores.

:24:34. > :24:47.That was a bit harsh about Dngland, wasn't it? If you see a bigger wall

:24:48. > :24:52.chart let us know. I was out filming in Plymouth this morning. It was

:24:53. > :25:05.very hot, though I had some book 's dream on. I'm having people ask me

:25:06. > :25:10.for some rain now. Good evening to you.

:25:11. > :25:18.There might be a shower tomorrow, so somebody will be happy about that.

:25:19. > :25:26.Today's story is really abott this fine weather. High pressure is

:25:27. > :25:29.stubborn. It has stuck its heels in. It's a cloudy start tomorrow.

:25:30. > :25:37.Although there are sunny spdlls there is the chance of an odd

:25:38. > :25:45.shower. We have an area of high pressure, though cleared blte skies

:25:46. > :25:52.at the moment. This patch of cloud is going to creep down and gradually
