:00:21. > :00:24.Tonight, investigations are underway to establish what went wrong.

:00:25. > :00:29.Sitting just a quarter of a mile from the airport runway,

:00:30. > :00:34.this was not the planned final destination for this plane.

:00:35. > :00:37.At around 5pm yesterday aftdrnoon, shortly after taking off from

:00:38. > :00:40.Guernsey airport, the light aircraft crash landed into these grednhouses.

:00:41. > :01:03.At first I thought it was a lorry that had lost a load of met`l on the

:01:04. > :01:10.road. That is what it sounddd like. It was one heck of a bang.

:01:11. > :01:12.It's not yet known if the private plane had

:01:13. > :01:16.a technical fault and was trying to return to the airport, or if it came

:01:17. > :01:18.down suddenly during take`off, but the airport director saxs the

:01:19. > :01:21.two passengers onboard ` John and Lynda Shaw ` had a lucky escape

:01:22. > :01:28.Having seen the site and thd way the are aircraft ended up perchdd

:01:29. > :01:36.between a tree and a greenhouse think they were very fortun`te. Both

:01:37. > :01:40.the tree and greenhouse brotght the aircraft to a gradual stop, rather

:01:41. > :01:44.than a sudden stop. Certainly, a very difficult side, diffictlt for

:01:45. > :01:46.them to escape, but the fact that they walked away is miraculous.

:01:47. > :01:49.Fire crews have removed the fuel and the aircraft will be taken

:01:50. > :01:53.The results of the investigation could take six

:01:54. > :02:01.months to a year before we know what caused this crash.

:02:02. > :02:05.An inquest in Jersey today heard how a man was found dead in his

:02:06. > :02:07.home approximately six months after he was thought to have coll`psed.

:02:08. > :02:10.The body of 62`year`old Richard Dix was found in such a state

:02:11. > :02:13.of decompostion, his cause of death was unable to be determined.

:02:14. > :02:20.Richard Dix lived here in Gorey village and had suffered

:02:21. > :02:23.from an addiction to alcohol for over 30 years.

:02:24. > :02:27.He was well known to both social services and Jersey police,

:02:28. > :02:34.who often found him asleep on the buses after drinking too much.

:02:35. > :02:37.A neighbour confirmed that she had last seen him in August 2013,

:02:38. > :02:40.stumbling up the stairs to his house, but didn't see hhm

:02:41. > :02:46.It wasn't until January this year that the police were called to

:02:47. > :02:51.They found his body in such a state of decomposhtion

:02:52. > :02:54.that it was impossible to tdll how long he'd been there,

:02:55. > :03:01.The court heard that it wasn't unusual for Mr Dix to disappear for

:03:02. > :03:04.months at a time, to either serve a sentence at La Moye prison, or

:03:05. > :03:08.time in hospital, so his nehghbours didn't notice his absence.

:03:09. > :03:11.His sister Rosemary gave evhdence to say that she had spent her whole

:03:12. > :03:14.life trying to help her brother s addiction, but in the end it got

:03:15. > :03:20."too much" for her, and she had to step away from the situation.

:03:21. > :03:22.Passing an inconclusive verdict the corner heard that after

:03:23. > :03:25.Richard Dix was diagnosed whth a brain tumour in 2010.

:03:26. > :03:28.He had continued to drink and, in his last few years of life,

:03:29. > :03:30.disconnected himself from the Social Services department,

:03:31. > :03:43.and any other help he was rdceiving from local alcohol charities.

:03:44. > :03:46.The pension age in Jersey whll rise from 65 to 67, after the St`tes

:03:47. > :03:51.The government says the state pension fund will run out in the

:03:52. > :03:54.next decade and the changes will be phased in over the next 17 xears.
