:00:27. > :00:40.In the last 60 years, attittdes to smoking have changed drastically.

:00:41. > :00:43.Now it's all about graphic warnings, hammering home the risks

:00:52. > :00:55.Under`18s could face a fine of up to ?500 in future

:00:56. > :01:08.The reason we are doing it hs that smoking at a young age is vdry

:01:09. > :01:11.harmful and we know children are under peer pressure to take up

:01:12. > :01:17.smoking, it is damaging to their health and that please have to

:01:18. > :01:20.intervene in the child's interest. Peer pressure is something teenagers

:01:21. > :01:25.at this youth that are award of although none of them smoke

:01:26. > :01:30.themselves. I know a couple of people who smoke and I do not like

:01:31. > :01:34.it. I don't see a reason whx you would smoke with all the help risks.

:01:35. > :01:36.Working with teenagers on a daily basis here,

:01:37. > :01:43.But he isn't convinced a hefty fine is the best way of stopping them.

:01:44. > :01:50.It's fairly steep and harsh. I think they are made aware in school of the

:01:56. > :01:57.they are teenagers, and you will never be able to stop 100% of young

:02:26. > :02:27.On its own, the fine won't stop all children smoking.

:02:28. > :02:31.But it is part of a wider strategy from the States to try and cut

:02:32. > :02:35.Money seized from criminals could be used to buy

:02:36. > :02:39.Next week, the States will decide whether to contribute ?3.5 lillion

:02:40. > :02:41.towards helping the National Trust buy the former holiday campsite

:02:42. > :02:44.The Treasury Minister believes this would be the best source

:02:45. > :02:46.of funds because it wouldn't add to the States' budget spending.

:02:47. > :02:49.Guernsey's teachers are being asked to meet higher standards as part

:03:25. > :03:43.Hallo, Ricky. Just checking up on you to make sure everything is all

:03:44. > :03:45.right. Hilary is one of the clients of

:03:46. > :03:57.Jersey Post's Call and Check scheme. I think it is a wonderful sdrvice.

:03:58. > :03:59.Who would have thought of it? Whoever did think of it, I think

:04:00. > :04:02.they deserve an OBE. Ricky has already seen

:04:03. > :04:15.the benefits of these welfare stops We have had one incident whdre I

:04:16. > :04:19.wasn't happy with a certain day the evening Post was on the doorstep and

:04:20. > :04:22.I thought that was unusual. I couldn't get an answer and `

:04:29. > :04:31.her and found she had collapsed and he had in hospital later th`t day,

:04:32. > :04:36.so that proves to be very useful. This community service has darned

:04:37. > :04:38.Jersey Post worldwide attention and it could soon be delivered

:04:39. > :04:46.in the UK. We have the Royal voluntary service,

:04:47. > :04:54.who are one of the big charhties in the UK, who are also keen to take up

:04:55. > :04:55.Call and Check in the UK, and they are coming over to discuss how that

:04:56. > :04:57.could happen. Back here, the scheme is now being

:04:58. > :05:01.extended to three more parishes ` And it could be island`wide

:05:02. > :05:10.in future. The friendly face of a postlan at

:05:11. > :05:15.the gate three times a week checking everything is OK and being `ble to

:05:16. > :05:16.reporter back to us if therd are any problems is just a great supplement

:05:17. > :05:19.for people in their homes. Back on the rounds, and Ricky may be

:05:20. > :05:22.delivering less post these days but people like Hilary still look

:05:23. > :05:27.forward to his call. Sport, and it's been a disappointing

:05:28. > :05:29.week for Jersey cricketers. They've lost all but one

:05:30. > :05:32.of their matches in the ICC World Today they were relegated

:05:33. > :05:39.back to Division 5. Tennis, and a disappointing night

:05:40. > :05:42.for Guernsey's Heather Watson. Russia's Mikhail Elgin and

:05:43. > :05:49.Australia's Anastasia Rodionova beat Heather and her doubles partner

:05:50. > :06:04.Ross Hutchins 6`1, 1`6, 9`7. And that is the news from us

:06:21. > :06:29.Channel this weekend, you would expect to see some pretty pretty

:06:30. > :06:35.unsettled weather but we cotld get away with dry weather. The low

:06:36. > :06:40.pressure is circulating across does other half of Ireland and throwing a

:06:41. > :06:46.few showers around, there whll still be a shower passing through

:06:47. > :06:49.overnight and overnight temperatures with those south`west winds probably

:06:50. > :06:53.around 13 degrees. Tomorrow there is a risk of a shower but for luch of

:06:54. > :06:59.the date we will get away whth dry weather, south`west winds and

:07:00. > :07:02.temperatures up to 19 degreds. Winds gradually changed direction and

:07:03. > :07:07.become more westerly and north westerly into Sunday. On Monday we

:07:08. > :07:10.may have a higher risk of showers but they are well scattered and

:07:11. > :07:16.there should be sunny spells in between. A brisk northerly breeze to

:07:17. > :07:20.said on Monday so sheltered part of the islands may get 19 degrdes but

:07:21. > :07:26.on North Coast, 16 or 17 thd top temperature. At higher risk of

:07:27. > :07:28.showers on Monday in Tuesdax, and from us good night and I'd leave you

:07:29. > :07:34.with a summary for tomorrow. move towards Sunday. The top
