:00:09. > :00:10.Good evening, the news in the Channel Isl`nds

:00:11. > :00:13.For the first time, States`run care homes in Jersey will be inspected

:00:14. > :00:16.and regulated, after the government unanimously passed new legislation.

:00:17. > :00:19.The Health Minister herself told the assembly that the current

:00:20. > :00:23.system wasn't fit for purpose and didn't protect people from `buse.

:00:24. > :00:41.From carers not turning up to work, two court cases over the qu`lity of

:00:42. > :00:50.care. Jersey's legislation did not protect those that needed it. There

:00:51. > :00:54.have been a few complaints hnto the inspection Department about the type

:00:55. > :01:01.of care being given. A couple of those have ended up in court. It is

:01:02. > :01:07.hoped the new law will change that. Previously, only private care homes

:01:08. > :01:19.in Jersey were inspected. Now, States care homes will be checked.

:01:20. > :01:27.Carers will have two meet standards. We are aware that there is ` big gap

:01:28. > :01:37.in the law, agencies providhng care in the community haven't bedn

:01:38. > :01:41.regulated or inspected. There was a rush to put this through thd States

:01:42. > :01:46.and nobody voted against it. A clear sign that things weren't right. It

:01:47. > :01:54.is a complex law and one th`t will take time to iron out. If all goes

:01:55. > :01:55.to plan, within the next two years, Jersey's care system will bdhave

:01:56. > :01:57.differently. Aurigny's new jet made

:01:58. > :01:59.its first commercial flight The States`owned airline botght the

:02:00. > :02:03.Embraer 195 for around ?25 lillion, It was felt it was necessarx to help

:02:04. > :02:23.guarantee that life`line service So here it is, Aurigny's new Embraer

:02:24. > :02:31.195. ?25 million worth of plane making its first commercial flight

:02:32. > :02:36.today. It will be interesting to see how much of the journey timd will be

:02:37. > :02:41.cut off by the new plane. It should be good, instead of going on the

:02:42. > :02:45.tiny ones. I am very excited, I didn't realise this would bd the

:02:46. > :02:50.first flight, I feel fortun`te to have a crack at it. Among the

:02:51. > :02:59.passengers, the boss of the company. It is here, it is on`time and on

:03:00. > :03:15.budget, looks great. When Flybe announced it was pulling out, the

:03:16. > :03:18.States move quickly. It will carry on for 25 years, we feel it will

:03:19. > :03:31.bring a lot of value for many years to come. Expecting to fly around

:03:32. > :03:38.100,000 more passengers each year, the investment is regarded `s a good

:03:39. > :03:43.one. We are excited to be on track by the end of this year, hoping to

:03:44. > :03:48.break even soon. With bias hs on the up, better go with finances on the

:03:49. > :03:56.up, Is Hopeful For A Bright Future. Guernsey's government has

:03:57. > :03:58.commissioned a survey of local businesses to identify

:03:59. > :04:02.skills gaps in the local workforce. They say the results will hdlp shape

:04:03. > :04:05.training courses on offer and help reduce the island's

:04:06. > :04:07.reliance on housing licences. A butcher, a baker,

:04:08. > :04:10.a candlestick maker. Traditional jobs from the ntrsery

:04:11. > :04:13.rhyme, but still valid todax. There's not many butchers ldft in

:04:14. > :04:16.the island, so going into bttchery It's always good to have

:04:17. > :04:21.a trade behind your belt. I think it's that there are no

:04:22. > :04:25.bakers in the island, or very few Bakery is one of the jobs where

:04:26. > :04:30.you need to get your hands dirty, so You can't learn it out of a book,

:04:31. > :04:35.you have to physically work in a bakery,

:04:36. > :04:36.practising the methods needdd. It would be nice

:04:37. > :04:39.if there were more young people with With the island's dependencx

:04:40. > :04:45.on the finance industry, one skill we're not lacking here

:04:46. > :04:47.in Guernsey is economics. But if we broaden it out further,

:04:48. > :04:51.we see there are many other skills The States have been thinking about

:04:52. > :04:57.how to manage the population, which is why they want to get the people

:04:58. > :05:01.already here up to date with their skills to utilise them, so xou don't

:05:02. > :05:04.unnecessarily bring additional people onto the island,

:05:05. > :05:08.with all the cost and extra burden Elaine and her team are askhng 00

:05:09. > :05:16.to 400 businesses to take p`rt And if skills are lacking,

:05:17. > :05:21.training can be provided. Knowing the skills that Guernsey

:05:22. > :05:26.needs to develop its economx is important, and if we can help people

:05:27. > :05:30.who are not in work to develop their skills, then they can becomd part

:05:31. > :05:35.of the work force, so absolttely. The results will be ready

:05:36. > :05:36.by September, then it's up to local islanders to

:05:37. > :05:47.give the employers what thex need. Evidence of the first Iron @ge house

:05:48. > :05:50.has been discovered in Jersdy. It's after a two`month dig

:05:51. > :05:53.in a field in St Clement. The excavation has unearthed objects

:05:54. > :06:11.dating back over 2000 years. But is it now, I am back with you at

:06:12. > :06:20.730 tomorrow. I will leave xou with the weather. Hello, some ch`nge

:06:21. > :06:23.afoot now. We have more clotd coming our way, which will produce rain

:06:24. > :06:29.towards the end of tomorrow. Quite a change, cooler, fresher conditions

:06:30. > :06:34.coming end. It is already bdginning to show on the big satellitd

:06:35. > :06:37.picture, this lump of cloud out here. That is an area of low

:06:38. > :06:43.pressure which is throwing cloud across the South West of England.

:06:44. > :06:47.For others, cloud will come and go overnight. Temperatures will dip to

:06:48. > :06:57.14 Celsius. Tomorrow, two things happening, a reasonable start and

:06:58. > :07:03.fairly breezy. By the end of the afternoon, patchy rain beginning to

:07:04. > :07:08.arrive. The forecast as we head into the weekend is for us to have some

:07:09. > :07:14.damp weather around on Saturday It'll take to clear, but thdre will

:07:15. > :07:22.be sunny spells later. On Stnday, dry weather at times, small chance

:07:23. > :07:26.of showers. After a dry start on Monday, the clouds open it `gain.

:07:27. > :07:31.For most, good night. outlook for the weeken` is quite

:07:32. > :07:42.different. For those of you who haven't already

:07:43. > :07:48.heard, we've recorded our highest temperature so far this year, and

:07:49. > :07:50.that was in Writtle in Essex. It looks highly likely as well that we

:07:51. > :07:51.could see
