:00:18. > :00:20.Although the number has dropped over the last couple of years,

:00:21. > :00:22.domestic violence still makds up a large proportion

:00:23. > :00:29.of the police force's work, as Emma Chambers reports.

:00:30. > :00:33.It's a crime that can happen anywhere,

:00:34. > :00:36.even within a victim's own home a place that should be safe.

:00:37. > :00:39.Domestic abuse is a big concern to Guernsey Police.

:00:40. > :00:44.Last year, they had 682 reported inciddnts

:00:45. > :00:48.That's 23 fewer than 2012 and 120 less than 2011.

:00:49. > :00:50.Although the number of reported cases have dropped over

:00:51. > :00:54.the last few years, domestic abuse still makes up a large proportion

:00:55. > :01:03.It is a problem in Guernsey, it is a problem all around the world, and it

:01:04. > :01:05.is something everybody needs to work harder to tackle,

:01:06. > :01:21.And with over half of those cases recorded in 2013

:01:22. > :01:23.as repeat incidents, Guernsey Police have given out

:01:24. > :01:30.It can be activated either by the red button or pressing this, that

:01:31. > :01:35.they can carry around the home. It phones the police station, we have a

:01:36. > :01:38.map of the address and we whll attend those incidents as m`tter of

:01:39. > :01:43.Specialist training and a multi`agency approach is

:01:44. > :01:50.But getting victims to speak out is hardest yet most effective weapon

:01:51. > :02:04.The Guernsey charity Safer ` which helps the victims of domesthc abuse

:02:05. > :02:08.` has been working with Guernsey Police.

:02:09. > :02:17.Dr Maggie Costen says the fhgures don't tell the whole story.

:02:32. > :02:35.one in seven men, and sadly, I think the figures are probably less than

:02:36. > :02:39.the actual number of cases. An advisor to

:02:40. > :02:41.Guernsey's Education Departlent has resigned because he's frustrated

:02:42. > :02:43.that improvements he's recolmended aren't being implemented.

:02:44. > :02:46.Denis Mulkerrin, a former UK head teacher

:02:47. > :02:48.and advisor to the UK Secretary of State, was appointed to scrttinise

:02:49. > :02:59.the running of the secondarx education service, following
