:00:35. > :00:48.in Jersey's children's homes since the Second World War

:00:49. > :00:52.Witnesses will include thosd abused and those they accusd.

:00:53. > :00:54.But there are fears not enotgh victims will come to tell

:00:55. > :00:58.It is a lot to expect them to come forward again and real estate

:00:59. > :01:01.experiences, but for this to be successful and worthwhile, lore

:01:02. > :01:03.victims do need to come forward otherwise work of the enquiry is

:01:04. > :01:06.going to be compromised, and that is the last thing `nyone

:01:07. > :01:12.This inquiry comes almost sdven years after a police investhgation

:01:13. > :01:16.here at Haut de la Garenne sparked hundreds of complaints about sexual

:01:17. > :01:21.That resulted in 192 people reporting 532 offences

:01:22. > :01:28.And today it was made clear by inquiry lawyers that abuse has

:01:29. > :01:31.happened across the island's care homes including beatings, c`nings

:01:32. > :01:38.The enquiry will go on throughout the summer,

:01:39. > :01:45.The panel heard about the children homes and fostdr homes

:01:46. > :01:52.The personal stories of those abused will probably not be

:01:53. > :02:05.Victims can come forward at any time during the inquhry to

:02:06. > :02:08.And although wrongs in the past might not be righted,

:02:09. > :02:11.the hope is any lessons learnt will protect children in the futtre.

:02:12. > :02:13.A Guernsey lorry driver has been found not guilty

:02:14. > :02:17.of causing the death of a cxclist by dangerous driving and of driving

:02:18. > :02:24.50`year`old Nigel Simmon's lorry collided with 59`year`old

:02:25. > :02:36.Jurats today decided Mr Simlon was not to blame.

:02:37. > :02:40.Just over a year since one man died here and today

:02:41. > :02:44.Nigel Simmon was cleared of causing the death of a cxclist

:02:45. > :02:46.by dangerous driving or driving without due care and attenthon.

:02:47. > :02:49.David Allison was riding along this cycle path during rush

:02:50. > :02:52.He was wearing a cycle helmdt and high visibility vest.

:02:53. > :02:55.As he neared Salerie Corner, a blue lorry driven by Mr Shmon

:02:56. > :03:02.Mr Allison then slammed on his brakes,

:03:03. > :03:05.skidded and fell off his bike, lying in the path of the trtck.

:03:06. > :03:08.He was then run over by the heavy goods vehicle and died at the

:03:09. > :03:15.So if Mr Simmon wasn't drivhng carelessly and dangerously,

:03:16. > :03:19.Today in court the judge mentioned the odd

:03:20. > :03:21.configuration where the cycle path merges with the footpath and that

:03:22. > :03:24.the lines were so obscure that the police had to call the Environment

:03:25. > :03:31.At the scene this afternoon Guernsey

:03:32. > :03:34.cyclists say the States needs to do more to protect the public.

:03:35. > :03:36.The most important thing is to get people cycling.

:03:37. > :03:39.The more cyclists on the ro`d, the more people are aware of them,

:03:40. > :03:42.the better they react to thdm and the more they understand how

:03:43. > :03:47.We need to get more people cycling, and the States of Guernsey

:03:48. > :03:50.understand that and we need them to make the parts better thought out,

:03:51. > :03:57.more thought through, without it being an afterthought.

:03:58. > :04:00.We have got them but they are bit of an afterthought.

:04:01. > :04:06.Behind me, the family were clearly relheved

:04:07. > :04:10.when the not guilty verdicts were read out, and it brings the end to

:04:11. > :04:34.But the other family's grieving will continue.

:04:35. > :04:37.The boss of Aurigny has been in Alderney today reassuring islanders

:04:38. > :04:39.they will continue to operate services and won?t raise prhces when

:04:40. > :04:43.Dornier aircraft are due to replace the ageing Trilanders flying

:04:44. > :04:47.from Alderney to Guernsey and Southampton.

:04:48. > :04:50.But Mark Darby said the airline is here to stay.

:04:51. > :04:54.We have no intention of cancelling the route to Southampton from

:04:55. > :04:56.Alderney. We have no intenthon of raising the fears. We reallx don't

:05:01. > :05:02.scaremongering. This has obviously got people worried, but those fears

:05:31. > :05:36.the various permits. That is now all in place, so the ash is on hts way.

:05:37. > :05:40.This Thursday, we will get rid of 12 trailer loads of ash. Will continue

:05:41. > :05:42.for several months. We will get of all of its.

:05:43. > :05:44.A choir from the Channel Islands has won three

:05:45. > :05:47.silver medals for their performance at the World Choir Games in Latvia.
