:00:10. > :00:13.Channel Island customers have criticised local landline

:00:14. > :00:16.providers in a survey asking them to rate their experience.

:00:17. > :00:18.In Jersey more than half of JT customers are unhappy, whild

:00:19. > :00:21.in Guernsey a third said thdy'd switch from Sure given the chance.

:00:22. > :00:35.Jen Smith and Mike Wilkins have the ddtails.

:00:36. > :00:38.When you've got a problem whth your home phone in Jersey,

:00:39. > :00:42.this is where your call ends up ` JT's contact centre .

:00:43. > :00:47.A survey by the competition regulator found more than h`lf were

:00:48. > :00:55.Almost two`thirds were unhappy with the customer service.

:00:56. > :00:57.And nearly two`thirds would change their fixed line provider

:00:58. > :01:14.The head of JT admits something's wrong.

:01:15. > :01:21.I wrote to customers in October I said, we are going to have problems

:01:22. > :01:25.with the billing system. I dxplain to people why it was necess`ry, and

:01:26. > :01:27.I asked customers to bear whth us. I would like to thank customers who

:01:28. > :01:29.have stayed with us through a difficult period.

:01:30. > :01:32.And there are plenty of people who want to be he`rd.

:01:33. > :01:35.Some people are saying bills are slow to arrive, it's hard to get

:01:36. > :01:39.through to operators and contracts are confusing.

:01:40. > :01:40.Mike, what was the outcome of the survey in Guernsey?

:01:41. > :01:42.Well, for the island's only provider of fixed lines, Sure,

:01:43. > :01:47.More than half said they were happy with the quality of sdrvice.

:01:48. > :01:49.But more than a third said they d switch to another provider

:01:50. > :01:55.if there were other companids offering the service on isl`nd.

:01:56. > :01:58.Sure says the survey's sample size doesn't reflect how the majority

:01:59. > :02:13.Whilst the results are more favourable, there is more work to be

:02:14. > :02:21.done. The thing about being dependent survey, 1% of the

:02:22. > :02:22.population is not indicativd of the general feeling of our population

:02:23. > :02:23.base. There is no choice for customers

:02:24. > :02:26.in the Channel Islands, there's only one landline provider

:02:27. > :02:29.in Jersey and one in Guernsdy. The telecoms regulator says it plans

:02:30. > :02:32.to introduce competition Children born in Guernsey

:02:33. > :02:38.in future will get automatic rights to live there if they have ` locally

:02:39. > :02:41.born parent and grandparent. The States agreed to

:02:42. > :02:44.the changes today, in a busy day of debate, whhch also

:02:45. > :02:47.rejected island`wide voting. Penny Elderfield joined me darlier

:02:48. > :02:54.from Guernsey with the detahls. Firstly, island`wide voting, and you

:02:55. > :02:58.can pretty much ignore everxthing That referendum they agreed to won't

:02:59. > :03:02.be happening, and neither will any of the proposed

:03:03. > :03:06.changes to the way we vote. The States chucked it all ott

:03:07. > :03:09.in the end, deciding it was all too So it'll just be the status quo

:03:10. > :03:19.come the next election in 2016. Getting onto population then,

:03:20. > :03:22.what was decided? This was just a small part

:03:23. > :03:25.of a massive piece of work looking at how to control the popul`tion

:03:26. > :03:30.here, but it is a big changd. For the first time,

:03:31. > :03:32.anyone born here who has a parent and grandparent that was also born

:03:33. > :03:35.in Guernsey will get an automatic So, basically third

:03:36. > :03:41.generation families. After that it gets

:03:42. > :03:44.a bit more complicated. If only their parent is a pdrmanent

:03:45. > :03:46.or qualified resident, that child would have to spend eight ydars here

:03:47. > :03:52.before getting the same rights. And for families living

:03:53. > :03:54.on the open market the child would One question that came up qtite a

:03:55. > :04:13.few times today though was whether In order to control our poptlation,

:04:14. > :04:17.we has to be able to say no. If we don't say no, we will get

:04:18. > :04:22.overpopulated and that will be to the detriment of people livhng on

:04:23. > :04:23.the island, and quality of life I want to protect those peopld.

:04:24. > :04:27.As I said, this is all just part of a bigger piece of work to look

:04:28. > :04:30.at who should be able to live in Guernsey, for how long, `nd

:04:31. > :04:36.So now the work will start to look at putting that all into action

:04:37. > :04:39.29 people are to lose their jobs at the Royal Bank of Scotland

:04:40. > :04:42.It's part of the bank's attdmpt to streamline its business.

:04:43. > :04:46.26 of the roles are from RBS in Jersey and three in Guernsey

:04:47. > :04:49.Jersey?s care inquiry has qtestioned whether it was a good policx to send

:04:50. > :04:52.children who needed looking after by the state to the equivaldnt

:04:53. > :04:54.of family homes in the Sixthes, Seventies and Eighties.

:04:55. > :04:57.They were hearing evidence from the current head of thd

:04:58. > :05:03.Only one of six the homes m`naged to stay open, at least two were

:05:04. > :05:09.closed down after the peopld running them were prosecuted.

:05:10. > :05:13.The Channel Islands highest hopes for a medal at the

:05:14. > :05:15.Commonwealth Games rest on Jersey's lawn bowls ladies pair

:05:16. > :05:20.They played their last group matches today.

:05:21. > :05:23.All Guernsey bowlers have exited the competition in the group st`ges

:05:24. > :05:29.There's all to play for on the green.

:05:30. > :05:31.Kelvingrove is one of the most dramatic settings

:05:32. > :05:36.Surrounded by the art gallery and museum on one side,

:05:37. > :05:39.and the grand Victorian building of Glasgow University on thd other,

:05:40. > :05:43.it could be the perfect loc`tion for a moment in history.

:05:44. > :05:47.But, will that dramatic moment belong to Jersey?

:05:48. > :05:50.Today they played the last lot of the group matches to qualify

:05:51. > :05:57.Jersey ladies pairs managed to do just that against a tough

:05:58. > :06:13.It was a close match, we re`lly needed to win. We managed to get

:06:14. > :06:18.through the group. What does it mean to you to get to the next stage

:06:19. > :06:21.Obviously it means a lot to get through, now it is a straight

:06:22. > :06:22.knockout, so we have to be `t our best.

:06:23. > :06:25.And it's the best who will go through to

:06:26. > :06:38.It's a long time since the last pressure on the island?s bowls teams

:06:39. > :06:42.It's a long time since the last medal. Unfortunately it did not work

:06:43. > :06:46.out in the first week. We got pipped in a couple of the games, so maybe

:06:47. > :06:48.we can turn it around and go for a medal.

:06:49. > :06:51.The time has now arrived here to see if lawn bowls will be

:06:52. > :06:53.the sport to break Jersey's 24`year medal drought.

:06:54. > :06:57.Well, Lindsey and Katie lost that game to table`toppers New Zdaland

:06:58. > :07:00.18`13, but they finished second in their group and go through to the

:07:01. > :07:10.Those matches start at 8:45 tomorrow morning.

:07:11. > :07:13.In other news from Glasgow, Jersey's Zane Duquemin is through

:07:14. > :07:17.to tomorrow's discus final, after throwing 57.26 meters

:07:18. > :07:23.In table tennis, Guernsey's Alice Loveridge made it through to the

:07:24. > :07:27.last 32 of the singles after beating Widaad Gukhool of Mauritius earlier,

:07:28. > :07:31.but she's now out after loshng in straight sets to Canada's Mo Zhang.

:07:32. > :07:34.And Guernsey badminton playdrs Gayle Lloyd and Elena Johnson are

:07:35. > :07:41.out of their singles compethtions after losses this morning.

:07:42. > :07:43.Better news for Jersey's Elhzabeth Cann though, who is through to

:07:44. > :07:55.the last 16, following victory over Ruth Williams of Jamaica.

:07:56. > :08:01.We will bring you a round`up of all the Commonwealth Games action

:08:02. > :08:09.tomorrow evening at 6:30pm. Good night, now the weather forecast

:08:10. > :08:14.Good evening. The cloud will increase overnight tonight, and

:08:15. > :08:18.tomorrow will be rather clotdy with a small chance of a few passing

:08:19. > :08:22.light showers. We are beginning to lose the area of high presstre, and

:08:23. > :08:25.low pressure currently to the north of Ireland will gradually t`ke

:08:26. > :08:34.charge of much of this corndr of Europe into the weekend. After a lot

:08:35. > :08:39.of clear sky, it will cloud over, and towards dawn tomorrow morning,

:08:40. > :08:47.it then maybe if you like showers. Tomorrow, cloudy at first, hf you

:08:48. > :08:51.like showers. Into the afternoon, some breaks developing in the cloud

:08:52. > :08:58.with temperatures reaching 09 or 20 degrees, and the winds mainly from

:08:59. > :09:03.the West. Into the weekend, Friday will be generally cloudy with a

:09:04. > :09:06.shower at times through the day with temperatures reaching 21 Celsius.

:09:07. > :09:12.Very similar figures into the weekend, but Saturday will see more

:09:13. > :09:16.frequent showers. In the morning, they could merge together to give

:09:17. > :09:20.more persistent rain. Much of that will clear overnight, so by Sunday

:09:21. > :09:25.it is a largely fine and drx day with the small chance of a few

:09:26. > :09:35.passing showers. In a moment, the UK forecast. Good night.

:09:36. > :09:39.heavy in the north of the region. 24-25

:09:40. > :09:47.Hello again. Will it be happy campers or happy gardeners? You get

:09:48. > :09:51.different responses when you mention rain at this time of the year. I

:09:52. > :09:54.will try to remain neutral and talk of an increasing chance of showers

:09:55. > :09:57.developing tomorrow. There'll be further mentions or rain for Friday

:09:58. > :10:00.and over the weekend.
