:00:00. > :00:16.Good evening. the news where

:00:17. > :00:18.A 29`year`old man is critically injured in hospital

:00:19. > :00:21.after falling around 30 feet from a wall in Jersey.

:00:22. > :00:23.These mobile phone pictures show the scene, near Commercial

:00:24. > :00:27.It's thought the man was being chased along Pier

:00:28. > :00:37.A Jersey mother has described the island's new maternity law

:00:38. > :00:40.The States recently approved giving new mums 18 weeks of maternity leave

:00:41. > :00:44.The Minister behind it says there is more to do.

:00:45. > :00:53.His mum Rachel has an understanding employer.

:00:54. > :00:56.She was given six months paid maternity.

:00:57. > :00:58.But she's not impressed with the minimum levels

:00:59. > :01:05.It is ridiculous. The States of Jersey have a good maternity grant

:01:06. > :01:16.policy, so thank goodness that is around. Maternity benefit I could

:01:17. > :01:20.not have got by with a mortgage to pay without it. So thank goodness

:01:21. > :01:23.that support is in place. But, two weeks is laughable.

:01:24. > :01:27.But until last month, Jersey companies didn't legally have

:01:28. > :01:34.Now employers will have to offer 18 weeks with two of those paid.

:01:35. > :01:36.Jersey's Social Security Minister ` who was behind the vote `

:01:37. > :01:43.This is just the beginning of very important rights that are

:01:44. > :01:49.In particular the rights to request flexible working when you return to

:01:50. > :01:53.employment after possibly having a baby or needing to care for

:01:54. > :01:57.somebody. Those are valuable rights, the right to return to the same job

:01:58. > :02:01.who has taken 18 weeks maternity leave.

:02:02. > :02:04.Rights the lucky ones like Rachel have already made the most of.

:02:05. > :02:12.She can't imagine what life is like for some Jersey families.

:02:13. > :02:17.A friend got three months unpaid, not what she wanted

:02:18. > :02:23.Her company offered up to three months off, but unpaid. She was in a

:02:24. > :02:28.much worse situation and it is not what she wanted, as I say.

:02:29. > :02:31.The new law won't offer new mums much more, but it will be reviewed

:02:32. > :02:42.A police officer has appeared in Jersey's Magistrates Court

:02:43. > :02:44.accused of driving without due care and attention.

:02:45. > :02:47.It's after his patrol car overturned on St Clement's Coast Road in May.

:02:48. > :02:50.James Andrew Jenkinson, who's 38, asked the Assistant Magistrate,

:02:53. > :02:59.His case was adjourned for three weeks.

:03:00. > :03:01.Questions are being raised over whether there's a cheaper way

:03:02. > :03:03.of providing medical evacuation flights in Guernsey.

:03:04. > :03:06.The health authorities currently use a company in the UK for medivacs.

:03:07. > :03:09.Last year more than 250 flights were needed costing more than ?1million.

:03:10. > :03:18.More than half were for cardiology patients.

:03:19. > :03:20.Disabled athletes in the Channel Islands are calling

:03:21. > :03:22.for Island Games organisers to include disabled sports.

:03:23. > :03:25.It follows the recent success of the para`events at

:03:26. > :03:31.In this race at the Commonwealth Games a 13`year`old

:03:32. > :03:34.from the Shetland Islands becomes the youngest Scottish athlete to win

:03:35. > :03:39.You can see how much it means to her.

:03:40. > :03:42.But although she can compete in the games at Glasgow she can't

:03:43. > :03:45.compete in a disabled event at the Island Games due to be held

:03:46. > :04:00.And someone else who would love to have the chance to compete

:04:01. > :04:02.in the Island Games is Guernsey swimmer Elizabeth Northrop.

:04:03. > :04:05.She's has won national medals at competitions in England.

:04:06. > :04:08.She has a learning disability so her mother Jane speaks on her behalf.

:04:09. > :04:20.It is a shame we can't have anyone at the games in Jersey. The games

:04:21. > :04:26.are not for disabled athletes and that is a shame. They had an

:04:27. > :04:32.opportunity. It is not being taken up.

:04:33. > :04:35.But the Association that runs the Island Games says there have been

:04:36. > :04:39.In a statement the Association's General Secretary

:04:40. > :04:42.says, "Although there are currently no specific events included

:04:43. > :04:44.in the Island Games for people with disabilities, athletes with

:04:45. > :04:47.a disability have been competing in our Games for many years e.g.

:04:48. > :04:48.wheelchair archers and visually impaired swimmers

:04:49. > :04:51.But will disabled athletes be treated equally

:04:52. > :04:57.and have the opportunity to compete at next summer's games in Jersey?

:04:58. > :05:01.When you talk about events like the Commonwealth Games, they are global.

:05:02. > :05:11.They have the time to fit those sent. The Olympics has a separate

:05:12. > :05:13.event for disabled athletes. I do not think the Island games

:05:14. > :05:17.Association could actually consider anything at the moment.

:05:18. > :05:19.For disability campaigners, news that Jersey won't be including

:05:20. > :05:29.Over the last 25 years we have been running our own events and we know

:05:30. > :05:32.how much goes into that. With able`bodied athletics going on at

:05:33. > :05:36.the same time the drill would not cope.

:05:37. > :05:39.Some disabled athletes say being allowed to compete at big events is

:05:40. > :05:43.But many things will have to change before the Island Games Association

:05:44. > :05:46.commits to providing that opportunity.

:05:47. > :05:48.Finally, a quick look ahead to tomorrow's programme.

:05:49. > :05:52.Find out why Jersey`born actor, Henry Cavill, is home

:05:53. > :05:56.We shall tell you all tomorrow night at 6:30pm

:05:57. > :06:00.And if you can't wait, tune in to BBC Radio Jersey tomorrow

:06:01. > :06:22.Good evening. There will be a change in our weather into Saturday and

:06:23. > :06:29.Sunday. It will be windy and wet. Tomorrow will be the last decent

:06:30. > :06:34.day. It will be cloudy with showers but brighter in the afternoon. Here

:06:35. > :06:40.in the Mediterranean you can see an area of low pressure and that will

:06:41. > :06:46.develop and move towards us. You will see the remains of a tropical.

:06:47. > :06:50.That will bring heavy rain. Overnight tonight it will be largely

:06:51. > :06:54.dry and it will be increasingly cloudy by tomorrow morning.

:06:55. > :07:02.Overnight temperatures around 15 degrees. The risk of a shower

:07:03. > :07:06.tomorrow morning. Some bright skies developing and sunny skies in the

:07:07. > :07:10.afternoon. Not quite as warm as it has been. The winds are coming from

:07:11. > :07:18.the North West and they will increase. On Saturday, there will be

:07:37. > :07:41.ex-hurricane Bertha which will bring the potential for intense rain. More

:07:42. > :07:44.details on that with the national forecast with Jay.

:07:45. > :07:50.It is quiet overnight. The script is changed tomorrow. Rain in the

:07:51. > :07:54.forecast which could turn out to be heavy. Warnings have been issued A

:07:55. > :07:58.wet start today in the extreme south-east. It moves further inland.

:07:59. > :08:01.A wet start in Northern Ireland as well. The central swathe may well

:08:02. > :08:05.start on a dry note but it won't take long for heavy showers it get

:08:06. > :08:09.going into the afternoon. Not all doom and gloom. I suspect the north

:08:10. > :08:13.and east of Scotland doing well, in temples largely dry kvenlts western

:08:14. > :08:16.Scotland will see wetter weather. The rain pushes through Northern
