:00:21. > :00:25.Education Minister says it should be made easier for more students to sit

:00:26. > :00:29.the exams. In Guernsey, education officials say this

:00:30. > :00:32.unique challenges for students. It comes

:00:33. > :00:39.counterparts in England at @`level today. Mike Wilkins reports.

:00:40. > :00:43.The envelopes that can decide the future. Today at Guernsey's grammar

:00:44. > :00:51.school there were plenty of smiles as some students made the grade I

:00:52. > :00:57.got three A*s, so I'm reallx happy about that. I to the an A* hn maths,

:00:58. > :01:04.physics and chemistry. I'm doing physics last year. In the l`st weeks

:01:05. > :01:07.we've all really wanted to know our results. To get them out of the way

:01:08. > :01:16.and to get good results has made our day.

:01:17. > :01:17.This year's school`leavers have had more challenges to face than

:01:18. > :01:22.previous cohorts, as the changed halfway through thehr

:01:23. > :01:27.studies. It is not getting dasier. The students this year, halfway

:01:28. > :01:32.through the course the Government said they can no longer be lodular.

:01:33. > :01:38.They knew they had to move to a linear second part of the course.

:01:39. > :01:43.They weren't expecting that. By students in Jersey celebratdd better

:01:44. > :01:52.results than those in England. I got an A*, an A and a D. I did really

:01:53. > :02:01.well. Three As and an A*. An A in art, B in media studies and a B in

:02:02. > :02:07.music tech. The grades are still higher than those in England. The

:02:08. > :02:12.range of A`level options should change, said the Minister That's

:02:13. > :02:17.difficult with five A`level providers. Some of the cohorts in

:02:18. > :02:23.those schools are small, so I would like to look at that. I would also

:02:24. > :02:29.like to make sure that the `ccess to A`levels is there for all the dirt

:02:30. > :02:36.schools and backgrounds. Thdre could soon be more options for sttdents to

:02:37. > :02:39.choose from, but on days like today it's the results that can ddcide

:02:40. > :02:43.their future. A man who spent most of his

:02:44. > :02:46.childhood in foster homes h`s told an inquiry into historic abtse

:02:47. > :02:49.Jersey that he was beaten rdgularly by two foster parents. Mich`el Laing

:02:50. > :02:55.says he was sexually abused while he was in hospital and with a

:02:56. > :03:01.foster family. Julie Flanag`n was at the inquiry. Today the panel at

:03:02. > :03:06.Jersey's care inquiry has hdard from two more people who were part of the

:03:07. > :03:23.islands care system. Michael Laing described how he spent most of his

:03:24. > :03:28.childhood in foster homes. He also described being sexually abtsed both

:03:29. > :03:34.while in hospital and when he lived with a foster family over an

:03:35. > :03:38.extended period of time. But he said he'd been back and forwards so

:03:39. > :03:42.times, his mindset was, "Oh well, here we go again." He

:03:43. > :03:48.Officer or the superintendent, he didn't have a

:03:49. > :03:54.with them. He said there was no one person going through my lifd

:03:55. > :03:59.said he had no problems at Haut de la Garenne and

:04:00. > :04:02.there for the whole of his time in care. The inquiry

:04:03. > :04:05.September. A further two arrests have been made

:04:06. > :04:08.in connection with a burglary jewellers in Guernsey. Around 5

:04:09. > :04:13.items were taken from the 31`year`old man and 21`year`old

:04:14. > :04:19.woman The Optimists Club have won top

:04:20. > :04:27.prize at Clement coming second. Accolpanying

:04:28. > :04:36.Miss Battle ` Holly Perchard ` was winds and rain threatening the

:04:37. > :05:08.parade. Clare Burton was thdre. It wouldn't be complete without Mr

:05:09. > :05:13.and Mrs Battle. How do you prepare for this kind of weather? I've been

:05:14. > :05:18.informed that my make`up is nontransferable. Loads of h`irspray

:05:19. > :05:25.in the hair. Hair. Everyone is having a great time. Ray Quhnn, what

:05:26. > :05:30.do you think of Jersey's Battle of Flowers? It is fantastic. The

:05:31. > :05:34.support here, the people who turned out, weapons the weather, it is

:05:35. > :05:42.great. Everybody is waving. There's confetti everywhere. We may as well

:05:43. > :05:50.be in Hawaii, never mind thd weather. A strong showing from the

:05:51. > :05:56.Opt mist Club. We are a gre`t team. Lots of families involved. We start

:05:57. > :05:58.in January, plait out, great d. We start in January, plait out, great

:05:59. > :06:04.fun. `` flat out, great fun. There's more pictures and vhdeo on

:06:05. > :06:20.our Facebook page. Good evening. After the showers of

:06:21. > :06:26.today, it is drier and brighter for tomorrow. Little consolation for

:06:27. > :06:31.those that took part in the Battle of Flowers today. Mostly drx with

:06:32. > :06:37.sunshine tomorrow. There might be showers early in the day or

:06:38. > :06:40.overnight tonight. We are close enough to this line of flours

:06:41. > :06:46.English Channel. Those showdrs will tend to fade away as the night wears

:06:47. > :06:52.on. Just a few left behind. For most Even by the morning there's a

:06:53. > :06:58.possibility of the odd 14`15 degrees. For tomorrow morning

:06:59. > :07:04.we start the day with sunny spells. A few showers early in the day. But

:07:05. > :07:09.from mid morning the sunshine is out. Patchy cloud. A

:07:10. > :07:12.day. The winds are from the north`west, fresh at times.

:07:13. > :07:19.Technologies no higher than 18` 9 gr Into the weekend, expect a fine day

:07:20. > :07:23.on Saturday. More cloud on Sunday, with the potential for that cloud

:07:24. > :07:24.particularly through the afternoon and a blustery west or

:07:25. > :07:35.north`westerly wind. are very few showers around. It m!y

:07:36. > :07:42.be dry Saturday and Sunday, a chilly wind, the national picture again

:07:43. > :07:45.with Louise now. Many of us have been asking the

:07:46. > :07:49.question, where has summer gone Today, no exception. We started off

:07:50. > :07:54.with a cluster of showers across Wales and the south-west. They

:07:55. > :07:59.gathered in intensity and pace as they pushed furthered east, bringing

:08:00. > :08:06.localised flash flooding and hail with the thunder storms as well

:08:07. > :08:15.Thank you to Sarah for this photograph. I can offer you

:08:16. > :08:18.something for promising into -- more promising into tomorrow, it should

:08:19. > :08:23.feel quite pleasant. If you still have showers around at the moment,

:08:24. > :08:26.most should fade to the coast through the overnight period. Clear

:08:27. > :08:32.skies, mist and fog patches will form. Overnight, generally 9-13

:08:33. > :08:33.Tomorrow starts off quiet. Fairly
