:00:55. > :01:01.That's the warning from a group of politicians today.

:01:02. > :01:05.They've identified a potenthal skills gap after looking at

:01:06. > :01:07.the jobs the island's digit`l sector will provide compared with the

:01:18. > :01:24.It'll be a decade before they'll enter the workplace,

:01:25. > :01:26.but with Jersey's government wanting to expand the digital econoly now,

:01:27. > :01:49.If you have a new set, it whll new `` need new skills sets. We will

:01:50. > :02:04.that immigration in terms of bringing some of that skill set in.

:02:05. > :02:05.There is also concerned abott a lack of consistency about how information

:02:06. > :02:07.technology is taught. These people behind me are working

:02:08. > :02:09.on Jersey's digital strategx. That includes bringing more States

:02:10. > :02:11.services online, broadening islanders access to

:02:12. > :02:13.digital technology like computers But the industry is develophng

:02:14. > :02:16.so quickly, the island's small digital community

:02:17. > :02:32.will soon not be able to kedp up. There are not enough technical

:02:33. > :02:44.skills in Ireland at the molent to support growth. `` in the island. We

:02:45. > :02:48.need to do things right now to support the demand the industry has.

:02:49. > :02:51.The scrunity panel is supportive of the push to a more online economy,

:03:10. > :03:14.A Health and Safety Executive investigation is underway.

:03:15. > :03:16.The Commodore Clipper will return to service on Friday.

:03:17. > :03:19.The freight ship has been ott of action after hitting the seabed

:03:35. > :03:37.Glass is being thrown into thousands of blue recycling bags, so they re

:03:38. > :03:42.The government says glass d`mages its machinery, but will reftsing

:03:43. > :03:44.people's refuse discourage them from recycling at all?

:03:45. > :04:01.Over the last four months these blue bags have become an increashngly

:04:02. > :04:06.common sight on the streets. They are for recycling. But for the

:04:07. > :04:11.moment, glass items cannot be recycled and that has been causing

:04:12. > :04:17.problems. What kind of issuds are you encountering? If your bhke is

:04:18. > :04:24.left with a green sticker on it that means there is something in the

:04:25. > :04:29.bank that should not be there. If we get glass in the back, that can

:04:30. > :04:33.cause problems. What is so bad about having glass in the bag? If glass

:04:34. > :04:38.gets broken in the recycling facility, that can cause us problems

:04:39. > :04:44.because we are trying to separate out items. I understand that 25 0

:04:45. > :04:53.bags have been left. Some pdople would say the system is not

:04:54. > :04:58.working. 2500 within the first four months of the scheme. We ard

:04:59. > :05:05.collecting from many households overnight so it is a very slall

:05:06. > :05:10.number of bags. Thank you vdry much indeed. There are plans for a trial

:05:11. > :05:15.to recycle glass and they are expected to be underway just before

:05:16. > :05:17.Christmas. In the meantime, take glass items to the local brhng

:05:18. > :05:21.bank. Conservationists

:05:22. > :05:22.in Jersey say fishermen are damaging Sea mearl is a bit like cor`l,

:05:23. > :05:27.and the concern is that it's getting caught by the dredghng nets

:05:28. > :05:29.used to collect scallops. And as campaigners told

:05:30. > :05:31.Chris Harrison, a whole unddrwater If you look closely you

:05:32. > :05:36.can see pink gravel. An algae that grows

:05:37. > :05:40.off the east coast of Jersex. This dragonet fish has camotflaged

:05:41. > :06:00.itself on the sea bed. There are only a small numbdr of

:06:01. > :06:04.healthy species. But in an `rea that has been dredged, they are not in a

:06:05. > :06:06.good position And this group of conservathonist

:06:07. > :06:21.have been trying to find out why. Some of the birds have been damaged.

:06:22. > :06:26.We are trying to find out what extent `` to what extent th`t is

:06:27. > :06:30.affecting the species and whether there is a possibility that those

:06:31. > :06:31.areas will recover after behng dredged or damaged by trawlhng

:06:32. > :06:32.equipment. They shot this footage

:06:33. > :06:34.which they say shows the aftereffects of dredging, a process

:06:35. > :06:37.where the sea bed is disturbed to The Jersey Fishermen Associ`tion

:06:38. > :06:41.said in a statement that it takes most

:06:42. > :06:45.seriously, the protection of fragile habitat to ensure a sustain`ble

:06:46. > :06:48.future for our local scallop fleet. And that considerable areas

:06:49. > :06:51.of seabed around the island, have already been designated

:06:52. > :06:55.as no mobile gear zones. However, the waters around

:06:56. > :06:59.Les Ecrehous, a site of dam`ged sea maerl research, are governed

:07:00. > :07:02.in co`operation with France. There will be fresh international

:07:03. > :07:05.negotiations in October to look at Until then,

:07:06. > :07:11.Jersey Sea Search say they'll continue to monitor this be`utiful

:07:12. > :07:20.and essential underwater pl`nt. You're watching the BBC

:08:15. > :08:25.message from the Prime Minister I hope that more young people will

:08:26. > :08:29.think of taking up a sport, thinking about physical fitness and health.

:08:30. > :08:31.That is the information `` inspiration you provide.

:08:32. > :08:33.And it seems inspiring in their sport is already happdning.

:08:34. > :08:35.Jersey's Lindsey Greechan and Katie Nixon's semi final match where

:08:36. > :08:38.they just missed out on a bronze medal in the wolen's

:08:39. > :08:55.The last day that we played for the medal place, there were manx

:08:56. > :09:02.supporters back at home that do not play and watched the sport `nd now

:09:03. > :09:06.want to come and play. It h`s definitely made a big impact on our

:09:07. > :09:08.sport. You enjoyed it, that's the main thing.

:09:09. > :09:09.And despite not winning any medals at the Commonwealth Games,

:09:10. > :09:10.the Channel Islands' compethtors said they felt honoured to be

:09:27. > :09:31.in the Donkey Derby as the larquees were being put up for the show.

:09:32. > :09:35.Mike and his trusty steed Jtne beat Island FM in the heats,

:09:36. > :10:01.As the North Show starts on Wednesday, time to see what the

:10:02. > :10:07.weather has in store for thd show this week.

:10:08. > :10:17.We should get to see some rdasonable sunny spells this week. This weather

:10:18. > :10:20.front when played yesterday. Behind it, and showery picture for much of

:10:21. > :10:30.the UK, but not too bad for us. We have this breeze coming in from the

:10:31. > :10:36.north and north`west. There is not a days. That low pressure sits in

:10:37. > :10:43.place and they showers here and there. But even by

:10:44. > :10:48.Wednesday, the wind. To increase by Thursday. We have seen some good

:10:49. > :10:58.sunny spells throughout much of the day. That breeze coming in from the

:10:59. > :11:04.north`west, a bit of a cool breeze. Generally dry conditions, btt

:11:11. > :11:15.showers around, but dry conditions are mostly throughout the d`y. Top

:11:16. > :11:26.spots getting up to around 07 or 18 degrees. Coastal waters fordcast...

:11:27. > :11:49.The next few days, we continue to see this cool breeze blowing. Some

:11:50. > :11:54.sunny spells over the next few days. And just a small shower risk, but

:11:55. > :12:00.that risk increasing towards the end of the week. And that is thd news

:12:01. > :12:12.and weather for the Channel Islands this Monday evening. You can follow

:12:22. > :12:25.the recommendations of the environmental health officers and we

:13:15. > :13:22.week on routes into Cornwall. Barbara tries to use this sdrvice

:13:23. > :13:25.every day to get to work intra` row. It can be half an hour late or not

:13:26. > :13:34.bother to turn up. Sometimes you cannot get a seat. You try to ring

:13:35. > :13:39.them up and you cannot get through all they are on a break. Or they

:15:24. > :15:29.report. The building itself is still under repair, as are almost all of

:15:30. > :15:32.the homes here. High on his list, campaigning for the millions of

:15:33. > :15:36.pounds that the county needs for flood defence. My lobbying for the

:15:37. > :15:40.house of lords will be more with keeping this high up on the

:16:38. > :16:40.raise concerns about the long`term trauma of being flooded out and

:16:41. > :16:47.questions if victims are getting the help they need. A lot of people are

:16:48. > :16:52.not sleeping. It is affecting moods. And there was an imp`ct on

:16:53. > :16:56.health. Certainly looking as well, I think there is a financial hmpact,

:16:57. > :16:59.in terms of houses and are they ensure of all. The Bishop h`s also

:17:20. > :17:21.have the bragging rights in Devon at the start

:17:22. > :17:23.of the new football season. The Pilgrims beat Exeter City 3`0

:17:24. > :17:25.at Home Park. Yeovil Town's problems have

:17:26. > :17:28.continued with defeat at Gillingham. Former pro footballer Guy Branston

:17:29. > :17:29.has been examining our teams' performances with

:17:30. > :17:30.Spotlight's Dave Gibbins. I was at radio Devon and it was a

:17:31. > :17:39.fantastic game. I enjoyed Harvey getting a free kick, 25 yards

:17:45. > :17:51.could his feet and plays really wdll for

:17:52. > :17:56.the second. That made, six foot four, it presents

:17:57. > :18:05.athlete of the day. 84 minutes. Finhshing

:18:06. > :18:10.three ` zero. Nothing to worry about. Why was that? We know

:18:11. > :18:14.Exeter have come out of the transfer embargo and it has been

:18:15. > :18:19.there was that substitute. Hs it early days for Exeter? Can they

:18:20. > :18:23.overcome early problems? I think they have got a good squad. I think

:18:24. > :18:28.it is really too early to play strong Plymouth side. They `re here

:18:29. > :18:34.tomorrow against Stevenage `nd what a bad start for Yeovil Town. A

:18:35. > :18:40.couple and they lost against Gillingham,

:18:41. > :18:47.2`0 in Kent on Saturday. And off to such a bad start aftdr

:18:48. > :18:52.relegation from the championship? They mentioned confidence bding key

:18:53. > :18:58.and they that. It is about having ch`racter

:18:59. > :19:06.and taking the pressure And the other penalty, it w`s a

:19:07. > :19:14.terrible penalty and he goes and Walsall. And Torquay United in the

:19:15. > :19:22.conference, played three, What about their start this season?

:19:23. > :19:29.I think the manager will be of good side. Gateshead and South

:19:30. > :19:34.board. He will be happy. Th`nk you Plymouth Leander swimmer Ben Proud

:19:35. > :19:37.is safely through to in his 50m butterfly heat to

:19:38. > :19:37.qualify sixth`fastest Proud came in behind Olympic

:19:38. > :19:41.freestyle champion Florent Lanaudou. Meanwhile Proud's team`mate

:19:42. > :19:44.from Plymouth Leander Ruta Leilutyte won gold in the 50m breaststroke at

:19:45. > :19:54.the World Youth Olympics in China. Now many of our beaches are packed

:19:55. > :19:57.with holidaymakers at this time of year, but visitors to ond Devon

:19:58. > :20:00.town are being treated to a surf life saving masterclass as the

:20:01. > :20:03.National Championships take place. Exmouth is hosting clubs from

:20:04. > :20:05.across the country, with different age groups competing

:20:06. > :20:06.throughout the week. Spotlight's Heidi

:20:07. > :20:21.Davey has been along. Three, four. Paddle boards `re at

:20:22. > :20:24.the ready on Exmouth age as juniors practice Surf life`saving skills. It

:20:25. > :20:31.was the master is competing with fitness the keyword in and out of

:20:32. > :20:37.the water. People say, are we life`savers, or a sport? We are a

:20:38. > :20:40.life`saving organisation but I assure you that we race or saving

:20:41. > :20:48.people. That is the way it hs developed. It is a good and fun game

:20:49. > :20:52.but there is a lot going on. There is a agility and going quickly. Like

:20:53. > :20:56.it is working on the beach. Many older competitors racing here are

:20:57. > :21:01.former members of the British Surf life`saving team, with decades of

:21:02. > :21:06.experience between them. And they are used to racking up injuries

:21:07. > :21:15.along the way. What have yot done? My hamstring. Yes. I can fedl it

:21:16. > :21:20.going. And you were there l`st year? They had to stop the contest for me

:21:21. > :21:24.last year as well. Injuries aside, many competitors patrol the regional

:21:25. > :21:31.beaches, even after 32 years of service. It is a 10,000 poptlation.

:21:32. > :21:37.Probably up nearer 50 at thd summer months. And it puts the pressure on

:21:38. > :21:42.everybody. But the whole colmunity works together as do the other

:21:43. > :21:49.communities that are here competing today. I shall be coming down to the

:21:50. > :21:51.beach and hopefully get past what is going on in my 70s and 80s. Hundreds

:21:52. > :21:58.of June you like saving will be arriving, ready to show the

:22:11. > :22:13.Libor Mach, who's a keeper `t Living Coasts in Torquay, has developed

:22:14. > :22:16.a very special bond with thd seal, which has enabled her to thrive

:22:17. > :22:23.Spotlight's John Ayres has the story.

:22:24. > :22:34.This young seal pup has had quite a tough start in life. Mum was not

:22:35. > :22:40.producing any milk and nature was not kind. Seals

:22:41. > :22:45.their young when this happened and she has to be

:23:08. > :23:14.comes to swimming, normally mother would drag the pup

:23:15. > :23:19.the neck to get them used to it But again, Suzanna Hext had to step all

:23:20. > :23:22.paddle, should we say. `` btt this woman `` this person had to step, or

:23:23. > :23:33.paddle. She took her back to shore and she sat

:23:34. > :23:37.on my arm. I slowly dragged her into the deep and she dragged onto my

:23:38. > :23:42.arm. And I put my arm down lower she realised she could float. Here

:23:43. > :23:48.we try and animals are parented as well as

:24:23. > :27:40.turn dry again with some sunny spells. Natalie and Justin! Thank

:27:41. > :27:46.you. And the pictures of th`t seal pup on Torquay are on our F`cebook
